It CAN add up if you're not careful. I've only split one reed so far this year, though - partially because I'm careful with them, partially because they're high-quality. At least they're cheaper than oboe reeds... my friend spends 8 bucks on one of those....

Dag man. No wonder all my oboe playing friends (I only have three... lol) make their own reeds. He should seriously consider finding some one to teach him how to make them.

I'm still playing Alto Sax and I think its great fun. I haven't broken any reeds yet though, and I still only have the two that my bd gave me when I started. I think I'm gonna play alto in pep band and flute in concert band next semester.

She's made her own reeds a few times, but none of them have been "performance quality." They're getting better, though....

I play tenor for pep/jazz and flute for concert. It's nice because most of my friends are sax players, so I get to sit with them at games. Most of the flute players bug me. sweatdrop I had to sit with the flutes for two years and it was kinda boring....

Our football team hasn't won a game in five years. xd That's pretty sad. We were SO close about a month ago... we were ahead the ENTIRE game and lost in the last forty seconds. >.< It was really disappointing.

eek That must really suck... Going to the playoffs are so much fun!!! I hope our football team makes it next year whee

We did that in one of our games too, lost within seconds of it ending. It sucked.

YAY ZELDA!!! xd zelda is the best series ever, ive beaten the 64 games to many times to count. I used to have the sheet music for the main theme somewhere, but between my cruddy comp losing everthing i download every so often and me being so unorganized ive lost track of it. sweatdrop

Wicked. I don't have any sheet music for Zelda, but I have some for Final Fantasy VIII xd

I have all the Zelda songs on my computer, too. XD I love it.

One reed? Dang. My friends play the clarinet, they only spend like a dollar per reed.

8 bucks for one?? eek well i guess it is possible that you could end up spending more money on reeds than food if you're like REALLY dedicated and play a ton. xd

Our BD is pretty wicked. He's really quite nice, but sometimes he can get easily frusterated when we don't do what we're told. One time he even refused to teach us because no one was paying attention. People kept talking amoungst themselves and we weren't doing our best.
I had a band director who would completely stop everything when he got mad at us. And if he got even angrier, he would definitely cus us out and then just leave. ><

Dang... Our BD wouldn't cuss us out, he still totally believes in us and the fact that we're a kick-a** band 3nodding xd we just get a little out of hand sometimes. He always has respect for us biggrin

Thanks! We don't have practice this week because our first playoff game isn't until next weekend. We're playing Albany State in Albany Georgia. I'm excited because that means we'll have a nice over night trip.

np. good luck! Our game is tomorrow... still can't wait xd My homeroom teacher was really worked up today, apparently the Band and the cheerleaders get to charter the good buses xd

We actually WON a game last night! 27-26 in overtime. There were news crews there and EVERYTHING. It was SO cool. Our band marched around the school, too. (Well, okay, more like walked in a semi-organized blob, since we don't actually MARCH. XDDD) The football players walked behind us. It was complete pandemonium... but it was AWESOME. 3nodding I "marched" tenor for the first time... it's harder than flute. The thing kept smacking into my leg and it made it really hard to play. It was so cool though... and we're going to be on the news! And in the paper! Woo!

Congrats! blaugh The last game we played that determined whether or not we went to the playoffs was 8-7. It was sooo close, but we did it! And it really boosts our spirits everytime we beat a private school's football team xd

I think all of our games were on TV, except for the very first one. There was one where they were interviewing our BD saying how are band sounds really good in the stands and everything, then they cut to us sitting in the stands xd it's so awsome! We were on three different TV stations all in the same day! xd

Yeah, it looks really hard to march with a Tenor Sax compared to a piccolo. I hope your leg doesn't hurt too much whee 3nodding

xd Us piccs have it easy out on the field and in parades. Plus, if it starts to rain we can protect our instruments by stuffin' em' up our sleeves

Heh, yeah, the freshmen tend to get picked on a lot, don't they? Don't worry, it'll get better. ^^ Well, depending on whether or not they give you "special treatment." There's this alto player who my friends and I called "stupid freshman" last year, and even though she's a sophomore now we STILL call her that - all in good fun, of course. ^^;;

Anyway, I'd recommend staying in band - the work is well worth it, at least in my opinion. Our band has SO much fun. ^^

W00+! We won our game at the playoffs! 28-24. It was a really good game. The score board kept bouncing around, but we ended up winning. I'm so glad this wasn't our last game, cuz' I like taking these long trips xd We got to stop at tower city and go to the mall to eat. We went to a record store where they had tons of different stuff. Me and friends went over to look at the anime and manga, and then the keychains. One girl found one that said 'I'm with the Band' and I stole the last one xd My BD asked me where I got it. The bus trip was pretty fun. We watched movies, pigged out on junk food, and played games. One guy in our bus was cross-dressing. He put on a pink shirt and skirt and everyone whipped out their cameras and cell phones xd afterwards he was like

"...this does NOT leave the bus!"
and of course everyone was laughin' their a** off cuz' everyone was gonna tell anyone they could. So yeah, that's about it.

Congrats on your team winning the game! That trip sounds like fun. ^^

Oh God... later this year I have to take an 8-hour bus trip to Idaho with the entire jazz band. The farthest I've ever been on the bus with the band is to Seattle, which is 45 minutes away. XD I've heard some horror stories....

Our band performed at the local mall yesterday. It was pretty cool. I had to take the bus down to the mall; it's times like that when I love playing flute. Much easier to carry on a bus than my sax is. 3nodding

Do you live in Washington then? (Yes, I know I sound really stupid) I'm asking 'cause I live in Washington. I think that our worst trip was going to Tacoma because our girls' basketball team went to state. Both bands were crammed on one bus with the cheerleaders, and I wound up sitting halfway in the aisle in between these kids I never talk to, and I had absolutly nothing to do. The way back was better 'cause I was able to sit with my friends. Tuba girl decided to dress like a guy and give herself facial hair. She worries me sometimes.

Here's a question. The high school band has 16 flutes, the symphony has five (of which only one isn't in the high school band.) There's a football game on a symphony night. I ask May "Can I go to symphony instead?" he says "We need you here." Isn't that a little weird?

Well, I went to symphony, and there was only one other wind player. He was a college clarinet (I think) but I wouldn't be surprised if he also played flute. We were in tune though. It made me happy!
