"Japanese, if you don't mind reading subtitles."

Mayu was fluent in Japanese, but had hardly gotten any chances to practice speaking or using the language. Well, at least this movie had a little advantage to it! She sat back a bit, knowing that sitting so close to the screen would be.. bad, to say the least.

"That's fine," he said with a smile, setting up the DVD to play in Japanese with subtitles. After setting the movie to play, he set the remote down nearby, folding his hands in his lap as the movie started.

After a few minutes in, Mayu decided that it would be best if she sat as far away from the television as she could. She took a seat next to Demare, and watched as the story on screen unfolded.

In one part of the movie, the woman had begun to watch the video. The screen simply showed static at first before a glowing "ring" flickered onto the screen, only to disappear again about as quickly as it had come. More static, and the image had changed on to moving water, a red tint to it like it were tainted with blood or reflecting fire.

The screen then flashed what appeared to be a picture of a nail, quickly moving on to a what looked like a drop of mercury, then a wooden chair sitting alone in some sort of room. A different angle of the chair flashed across the screen before returning to its previous image, moving onward to show a close up the tip of a brush running dark hair, the image changing once more to show the woman who was doing so in an oval mirror on the right side of the screen. (There appeared to be no one standing in front of the mirror, however, as we can see the whole mirror and image.) The woman looked rather young, her dress black. The mirror switched places, now showing up on the left side of the screen, reflecting an image of a form with long, dark hair and supposedly wearing white. The mirror again switched places back to the right, showing the previous woman looking to the left, but part of her hair had been put up in a partial pony tail.

The image once again changed to the nail that had been shown earlier, then the scene changed to that of a house, the camera looking up toward a window by the roof. The scene then went on to show some sort of field with a mangled tree, its branches looking as if it had been so severly swept by the wind that it was stuck that way. A fly began to wander about this scene, looking so real that if one wanted to go up and try to pluck it off the screen, one would have to wonder if it would actuall be there.

The scene changed, now showing what looked like a man's open mouth, the face having cuts along the flesh, and... was that... guts being pulled out from his mouth? Ew. Just... EW. The camera was pulling back from the person's face, and the image all of a sudden changed to hair floating about in water. Again, the scene changed, the ring looking more like a waning moon, cresent shaped and disappearing in the darkness. Another sudden change to a burning tree... What the hell is this? What is the point of a burning tree? Is that supposed to be like the Burning Bush? Wait, this was a scary movie... ....Ignore that. And now we have a box, with the lid sitting next to it. Oh God... OH GOD. The camera moved closer to peer into the box, and there are twitching fingers inside. GROSS! SO FREAKING GROSS. Now we're back to the nail, yet again... Oh! There's an attached finger now! What's it...? ...Oh. My. GOD. It came down and rested on the tip of the nail. Something trailed across some cloth, putting it apart, and then the image faded into... something dropping from above. It's hard to tell what things are in a black and white film. ...At least, it's supposed to be black and white. The reds from earlier is still kinda creeping me out. Now, there's more red...

AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGHH!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN! That finger on the nail from just a few seconds ago? IT PUSHED THE NAIL RIGHT THROUGH ITSELF. And the fingernail is now all... pushed up and... EW! Oh God... I'm feeling sick. The close up of hair being brushed flashed across the screen again, and then the twitching fingers, and.... blood spilling over the cloth that had been cut. Gross... GROSS. That's a whole ton of bugs... and MORE bugs, oh God. The SOUND... that sickening sound... There's a table now with a glass of water by the edge, and that chair from before I think. And... WHOA! That's one HUGE centipede! Or... is that a millipede? And now, a... goat's butt? What, are we at a farm now? A close up of its eye... Man, that's so weird.

And DAMN this video is long.

Oh, look... the waning moon again! It's getting closer to being gone now... It's starting to look more like a lunar eclipse, now that I think about it. Again the burning tree... Why are they repeating images? Could they not find different footage to creep people out with? W-what the...? The film looked like it caught on fire just a moment again. More with the hair floating in water, and now... oh! The woman is in front of the mirror this time, her hair in some sort of bun. She turns her head to look over her shoulder at the camera, and... hm. She's kinda pretty. Why's she in a creepy video like this? There's the picture of the house and window again, and that drop of mercury from the beginning. It... exploded. And now there's a red tinted... well? The water's rippling at the bottom.

There's a tall ladder leaning again the wall, and the image turns completely upside down for a moment. Earth splitting open, more blood seeping from the tear in the cloth from earlier, and an island, I think it is. It's too dark to see clearly, but there are large waves. A flash of the woman from the mirror standing on a cliff, and then a flash of the ladder, and back to the woman. The woman spreads her arms and... What?! She just fell off the cliff! The ladder starts to fall over, then that "moon" completely disappears, and the ladder falls completely over. Now there's a foggy forest, with a well... And then? Static.

...Gross. This movie was so completely gross. Mayu grimaced as she watched the video play, almost flinching as the more disgusting images came up on screen.

As the static flashed on screen, the lights made a loud whirring sound and shut off once again, TV fading to black. An opportune time for another blackout.

Mayu couldn't stand it anymore, letting out a loud scream of fear and clinging to the boy besides her. So much for her pride.

Demare nearly lept out of his skin as the girl screamed, even more surprised by her clinging to him. As the lights went out, his ears had begun to ring, but it was hard to tell if he was only imagining that due to the video.

"Mayu! It's okay!" he told her, glad that the darkness hid his blush this time as he held onto her, lightly petting the back of her head. That had always worked for Manior when he needed to be calmed down, so maybe it would work for her, too. "It's okay, it's just a movie. The lights had bad timing."

The halfling concentrated for a moment, creating a few lights to hover close to the children, emitting enough light to see general shapes in the room. Nothing appeared to be out of the orginary. At least, nothing except for the glowing red eyes hovering over the child's shoulder, just out of his sight but right in the way of Mayu's.

"See? Nothing to worry about."

"Eyes.. shoulder.." Mayu choked out, staring into the glowing red eyes for a moment. Grabbing a nearby pillow, she swung it towards them impulsively, though her eyes widened in surprise when the cushion passed straight through them and smacked into the boy's face.

"Sorry!" she squeaked, putting down the cushion and scooting over to see if he was okay. It was just a small smack, but Mayu was becoming increasingly paranoid.

Eyes... shoulder? Demare was about to ask what she was talking about, but was instead greeted by a pillow. He wasn't expecting that, nearly falling over backwards, but managed to keep on the bed as he looked around for a moment.

"It's okay," he assured her, trying to find the eyes she mentioned. "But... I don't see anything, Mayu."

The eyes hovered over the boy's head now, continuing to haunt the girl.

Mayu pointed to the spot above Demare's head, and croaked out, "They're above your head now."

She didn't chuck another pillow, because she knew that the eyes would go through. Maybe.. it was a ghost! She drew back a bit, still staring at the glowing red eyes with a fearful look.

Above his...? Demare noticed that his ears were still ringing, and he realized what it must have been. His eyes narrowed as he glanced off to the side.

"DEMIAN!" he growled, knowing full well the demon would be able to hear him. "You PROMISED!"

Hey, I said I wouldn't take the body until she left, the other sneered, the red eyes fading away. You never said I couldn't do things while OUTSIDE of the body.

"That was a bit cruel, even for you. Just leave her alone, will ya?" Clare sighed, closing his eyes for a moment. I'd rather you not test my temper right now. You've already pushed it quite enough.

Fine. She's boring, anyway. Not a lot of fun to pick on.

Ah, the eyes were gone...

Mayu sniffled, scooting back over to her original spot besides the boy.

"I'm sorry.. I try to act brave but I really do get scared easily." The Legend curled up into a little ball, hugging her knees tightly.

...Strange. She had never been able to admit this weakness to anyone before. Mayu had always held her pride at a foremost position when it came to dares and matters of proving oneself. It was so... so weird.

The lights whirred for a moment, then flickered back on. She looked to the television, and frowned.

"No more scary movies.."

Demare frowned slightly at Mayu's saddened state, not liking her looking upset like that. Gentlely placing his hands on her shoulders, he slouched down a bit so he could look right into her eyes.

"Hey... I get scared too," he told her, smiling slightly. "Everyone has their fears... It's a part of mortal nature. If something scares you, that's okay. A lot of fears can be overcome, after all."

He didn't know if that would help her or not, but it was true. Perhaps he could even help her overcome her fears, should she need it.

Reaching over, the halfling picked up the remote and turned the TV and DVD player off, nodding a little bit.

"Yeah, no more scary movies... Particularly on a night like this. So, what should we do now?"

Mayu sniffled once more. She.. still did not like admitting her fears, even in the most frightening situations.

"We can finish watching the movie another day.. When it's sunny out? I think we have the DVD at my house, so if you ever come visit.." She blushed slightly, trailing off.

"Um... Maybe a snack?" she shrugged, wondering if the suggestion sounded rude.

Demare blushed slightly at the thought, having never really thought about going to Mayu's house to see her before. He didn't really know where she lived, after all... Though, he did have that number from earlier. Directions would be easy to get.

"Ah... s-sure!" he stammered, releasing the girl and moving to get off of the bed. "Um... we might have some ice cream still, I think. If Layla and Johanna didn't eat it all. How's that sound?"

"Ice cream sounds good," Mayu smiled, sliding off of the bed. Though, she couldn't help but giggle just a bit, remembering the event that had happened earlier in the day with the large dog.

As they made their way towards the door, she stopped for a moment, thinking of what to say.

"Um.. for what you said earlier, it really did help." She smiled, and hugged Demare. "Thanks."
