Maybe if she asked nicely enough, she could borrow that journal Lin had been using as a fan. "Good," she half-sighed, shading her eyes with a hand. "I don't know that Death one too well, other than he's good-looking and crazy. But division leaders can create portals, I've been told, so I guess he decided to just warp us here." Nora squinted towards the tents. "Let's make for those, shall we? Might be something left to scrounge. Or at the least we could get out of the bloody sun for a moment." He heard Caroline, a bit before, but had lost sight of her in the din of combat, in the horrors that would only be his first.
"Ms. Caroline!" Leslie wailed, voice caught on the wind, catching sight of red-red-red for only a moment before losing it again.
He was alone again, shortly. And despite the tears on his face, it was oddly comforting. He'd always taken care of himself. Not everyone could say they lived through the things he did.
Leslie swung, gagging as creepy-crawly legs writhed and smooth carapace caressed the skin of his hand as he missed.
Was this so different?

Okay, she totally had this. She had handled swords before, in her martial arts class, and this was not that much different than that!
Two centipedes were snaking through the sand towards her, but before they could get closer, Dottie pushed off from the sand, jumping towards them with a sweeping slash of her katana, causing one to burst, which sprayed her in some caustic substance.
"Gross." She griped, eyes narrowing on her remaining buggy adversary.
HP: 35/40

"I AM SO ******** TIRED OF THESE ******** THINGS!" Tobin screamed for everyone and anyone nearby to hear as he flattened another, turning to hold one down with his foot and he slammed his club down, making a huge mess.
Yeah, the stuff that hit him hurt but he didn't care. "I GOT ONE MORE!" He called out to his group, the other voice in his head having gone silent for the moment. That's damn right.

And with one more precision stabbing, the last centipede burst open. Nothing else seemed to be chasing after him, for now. But that would change whenever they got back. If they got back. By now, he'd made it halfway to the cluster of abandoned tents. He could just barely make out Mark against the sand. " What laptop?" he yelled at Mark over the wind. Mark hadn't been carrying a laptop in the orientation, had he? "Aw hey, Melv, how's it goin'?" Daws greeted him cheerfully. "Yer just in time: we got us a curious customer." He sat up to look professional and glanced at the woman's tag. "Hiya, Kammy! Well see, what we got here are--" And then the floor went bye. Dawson's screaming almost sounded like Goofy's.

Why hadn't he been different? Why hadn't he used the opportunity to mingle as he should have?
Sweat trickled down his brow already. Christ, how he hated the heat.
We do as well, Aleria offered before they guide his arm. A thrill not his own pulsated in his chest as he nearly brought another down. We hunger. Do you not feel it too?
What do you mean, he asked, and they smiled.

Roland was stunned somewhat, the outburst of noise and chaos around him left him very rattled. The faint ringing of Sylvia trying to speak to him finally getting him to focus.

The hunter did just that and stumbled backwards as he brought the scythe across his chest clipping a rearing bug as he back peddled. Another burst of disgusting bug guts spraying him.

Abbi had just spied Stormy and her friendly wave when the floor literally opened up beneath them. Despite having just met the guy, Abbi still reached out to grab Bradley, her Moon instincts kicking in already. Hitting the sand is bad enough, but standing up and realizing where she is is far, far worse.
This was not the welcome back Abbi would have ever even dreamed of because it is so bad it has turned into full on nightmare territory.
"Oh you ARE KIDDING ME!!" The young woman screams into the blistering wind at the same time the ghost in her head swivels in a deep panic. In a moment of total indulgence to the new whirlwind of negative emotions bubbling up inside her, Abbi takes a moment to stomp and kick at the sand, half hoping it will do it some harm.
Instead, there are centipedes!

Something sharp sang in his veins. A cool hand laid upon his breast, wide and spindly. All black eyes, lid to lid, wide with awe.
The more you feed me, Aleria murmured, shielding him from the destruction of another centipede as it returned to shadow, to traces of FEAR and naught else.
Leslie set it aside to think on later, this realization. He knew it in theory, but in practise it felt...different. Things just weren't the same on the island, surrounded by people who wanted to keep him safe.
(Not that he was devoid, now. He waved his arm over at where he saw Caroline, determination written across his face despite the teary face.)
The sand beneath his left foot rapidly sank. A centipede furled around it, constricting effortlessly. Leslie could feel its mandibles.
We've done this before. We just don't remember.
Every swing was rusty, with poor form and little conviction. But Leslie was a hunter in truth, even if he'd forgotten the details.

The next swing that followed was sloppy, his reach was off and instead of hooking the bug inside the blade he simply scratched it with the back which wasn't sharpened to cut.

Dottie may have spent too much time gloating over her one single kill, however, instead of actually doing anything about the second one that still plagued her every movement.
