Dahvin had finally recovered from his cold, and was happy to be back in class. Even the classes that weren't his favorite were fair preferable over the infirmary. At least he'd had an assignment to tide him over, and he'd made it back in time to present it!

... Well, maybe that part wasn't so thrilling. Being the center of attention was terrifying, after all. The Kirin stood, and looked at his hooves.

"I've picked Lady Fidellia as my historical figure. She was an Elf, and she negotiated the treaty that lets us - the Daydreams, come below and study here. I think she's very important, because without her, I wouldn't get to come to school here, and learn all of these wonderful things. She must have been a very skilled negotiator to manage to make a treaty as wide as she did. I think that's just amazing." Dahvin smiled softly, and sat back down.

Frit (j)
Frit frowned. Courting rituals? I mean, i guess that's important... but really, nightmares don't need to do all this "courting" in order to reproduce. They simply imbue a stone, and then it grows and all is well. Fine, frit looked at the entry for how imps did things. She was half imp, half demon, so its good to learn, right? Frit smiled, thats more like it! Imps were more into having multiple partners, presumably to find one with the right mental, emotional and physical attributes that one would want their liniege to have. That was the right way, to choose on attributes, on something like gifts or emotions.

Satchas (f)
Satchas turned happily to the part in the book labeled "fae". He was a fay, why not learn about them, and find a fay to really look up to. Satchas searched the chapter a few times, and his mouth formed a frown. There was no one here. No fay were considered great or important? No fay were noteworthy or special? Satchas felt a pit in his stomach, and hastily put the book back. He was also half dryad, so he picked up a book on that. Satchas felt relief flood through him. There were dryads, and they were noteworthy and did important things. He could do so as well. Maybe, maybe he would be the first fay to become noteworthy and have his name in a book!

Being part goblin, Popple decided she wanted to talk about goblin courting this go. Standing up she bobbed her head a bit before starting. "Goblin courting goes a little differently than most. When a goblin really loves someone else -- usually this is between two goblins -- they tend to spring a partially imbued stone to their other half when they truly love them. I think my goblin dad might have done that to my other dad. I can't quite remember." she said with a laugh. "Either way, if the love and affection is returned, they finish imbuing the stone or stones together!" Done with her choice, she sat down and wriggled in her seat, wondering if she'd ever find someone to spring a partially imbued stone on.

User Image Courting rituals were no laughing matter, and Luno was pleased to be able to give a report on the topic. After all, knowing how someone wanted to be courted was essential to knowing how they looked at the world. Love and Life went hand in hand, after all.

"I decided to look into the Grimm. After all, I am part Grimm," if his ears had anything to say about that, "Grimm typically trade with the Nixie for mother of pearl that they shape into necklaces. They also catch and prepare game and other gifts to give. Ha..." Luno smirked, "Sounds very similar to Demons to me. In the past, though, Grimm traded children between clans in order to keep bloodlines strong. Needless to say... That isn't the case anymore."

Tethys examined the group of seniors in the room - most of them seemed either eager to start the lesson, or like they'd rather be somewhere else. Ah well... He could deal with that. "What do you all know about... courting practices? Specifically... traditional practices..." He tilted his head to the side, blinking slowly. A few disinterested faces perked, others seemed more interested than they were before, though there were some who seemed to zone out. "Well, regardless of what you know we're going to go over that today... And share some things, too."

User ImageDesdemona groaned quietly when the teacher described their activity. Courting practices? Really? Of course she found them interesting, just like she found most behaviours interesting, but it's not as though she had any experience. When it came to her turn, she spoke about the only culture she felt comfortable describing.

"Well, nagas... we're pretty, uh, physical during our courting," she stated, her cheeks reddening slightly, "just like the bakeneko. I think it's because our tails can brush up against each other and... yeah. But uh, something more interesting - at least, to me - is the dancing we perform. It's like... it's almost hypnotic. I think our tails help with that, too. But it's pretty special, I mean you won't just see two nagas dancing at each other in the middle of the hall." She laughed half-heartedly before quickly sitting down. Public speaking... was anything worse?

Melogene Nightshade

Ignoring the quiet grumblings of her classmates and her spectral companions, Melogene tucked her chin in her hand and considered all the possible contenders. She had learnt many names from her friends and the tombstones that marked their graves, but many of those had achieved notoriety only in the spirit world. She needed a nightmare her teacher would not think she had made up.

“The vow,” she murmured, quiet enough that her classmates could not hear. “Who signed the vow again?”

“You mean the Sovereign's Vow?” a ghostly demon asked, peering down at her. Melogene nodded. The other spirits who had been arguing nearby perked up and huddled close to the desk. They began to chatter all at once.

                              “Well, it wasn't just one...”

                              “... necromancy, horrible business...”

                              “... four of them...”

                              “... started with Ulrich Glasstone...”

“... sisters Evanna and Lyanna Page...”

                              “... don't forget Graven Frostfyre...”

                              “... idiot, he wasn't involved...!”

“... not the idiot, you're the...”

“Shh, shh!” Melogene urged between giggles. Although no one else could hear, the ghosts had begun to put up quiet a fuss. She could feel the air growing colder, as ice began to creep over her desk. Beside her, she could see her classmates shivering. She nodded in their direction, and the ghosts fell quiet almost at once. It only took a few seconds for them to begin arguing in heated whispers again. In the meantime, Melogene began to write.

“The litch wardens, Ulrich Glasstone, Lyanna Page, Evanna Page, and Farryn Sark, were responsible for the signing of the Sovereign's Vow, the document that outlawed necromancy and blood magic. They did this at the request of the demons, when they first offered their allegiance. To this day, both types of magic are criminalised, although it's unclear...”

Denzel

Denzel started writing almost immediately. He knew exactly who he wanted to write about. His pencil scratched the page slowly but deliberately. “Lady Fidellia signed the treaty to bring peace to the Above and Below after the Fifty Year War. Without her, we would not have all the different Nightmares and Daydreams in the Academy that we do. Another war might have even started and that would be terrible. I'm really glad to have the chance to be friends with so many different people.” It was only a pity he did not know more about his own people, the grimm. He tapped his pencil against his lip, thoughtful and a little melancholy.

Cheri Cordial

Blah, blah, blah. Tradition. Who cared about that stuff anymore? Cheri did not bother to get up from her seat, much less go to the front of the room to present. Arms folded over her desk, she rested her head on her wrists, bored out of her mind.

“We imps are super intimate,” she drawled. “We're all kinds of touchy feely, and have no sense of personal space. You shy? Introverted? Averse to physical contact? No problem! We will cuddle you to death, regardless of whether we wanna just say hello, become buddies, or make out with you.” Her sarcasm could not be any more evident.

User ImageOkay well reports weren't his favorite thing but he definitely liked it way more than he liked tests. He just needed to figure out a character to report on...

Looking at all the figures in history I guess the most important to me would be Argus the stoneskilled. After all he was most famous for figuring out how to make an eternal soul stone. A stone that could be imbued by three people but could be stored indefinitely until you needed to use it. After all if he hadn't then I wouldn't be here. My twin wouldn't be here and a good chunk of people know. So at least that's why I picked them.

Okay so it wasn't the most historical reason for picking them but it was personal enough right and he did add in some historical facts, Oh well the assignment was done. Time to stop fretting about it and turn it in

User ImageA courting practice. Ah well it was around the time where everyone was thinking about love and romance. Spring fever? Ah well it was unimportant. An assignment was an assignment. So being a hybrid he had about three races to choose for. After all Father always said and assignment was always easier if you could relate it to yourself.

"Fallen are very subtle in their Courting attempts. Big large and grand gestures are often looked down upon at least publicly as it is supposed to show insecurity. However there is one custom they do agree on. When a fallen really likes some one they take one of their feathers whether shedded or pulled and gift it to their intended. Afterwards I have often seen people who accept turn the feather into a necklace trinket or such. ." Arinas spoke.

Hmm he wondered if father would ever gift Morginn a feather or if he would go the feather route if he ever found a significant other.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Luxton fiddled with the piece of paper in his hands, careful not to cut it up with his claws. He had no idea who to write about. He would have liked to write about someone of his own race, but that wasn't a choice he had available. Luxton settled on Prince Karyl. "I am choosing to write my report on Prince Karyl because he is a prince, but the worst kind of prince. He signed an agreement with five other princes that they would stop sacking cities and then went ahead and sacked Prince Gregyn's city anyways. He was assassinated as a result and replaced by his brother."

User Image Caraway looked and looked for someone to do her report on, she finally decided on Lady Fidellia of the elven people and she said. "Umm I picked Lady Fidellia because she nigoosiated the treaty to reopen trading between the Above and Below, without it my, mommy and daddy would never have met, so I wouldn't be me without daydreams being allowed in the Below." Caraway said fluttering her wings and flipping her little demon tail about. There were so many hybrids of nightmares and daydreams that depended on that open trade between the Above and Below. Without it Caraway would never have been imbued.

User Image Stella picked Rex Imara of Alcyone and she said "I picked Rex Imara of the Baphomet because she was a strong and gifted leader who was able to gain many followers easily. I want to be like them." Stella said. She didn't want to have others follow her in the same sense or maybe she did. "I want to run a big business someday and for that I guess I will need to be strong and be a good leader so others will follow my lead in the business world." Then Stella sat back down so the next student could give their report.

User Image Salacia wasn't sure how she felt about her people's courting rituals but she lifted herself with her tail and said "Naga courting practices are very touchy feely, unlike some other races there are no pretty gifts." Salacia pouted, perhaps she would find a race that did like to give gifts to show love. She loved shiny things. "Cuddling, holding hands, is very important to naga couples, interest is often showed in a special dance." Salacia decided not to cover the other part of naga courting since touching noses even for her felt like a weird thing to tell the others in her class about.
