The chairs on these regionals are much better than locals, Victoria thought to herself, leaning back into the plush. Of course, buying nicer seats didn't hurt either. She spared a fond smile for her niece, currently asleep with her new pokemon on her lap, before turning back to her tablet to finish going over the more detailed specs of her new contract.
Hours later Julie blinked awake, squinting into the warm sunlight pushing into the carriage. The fields rolled past for a few dozen seconds, her mind still fuzzy. Oh, she's still asleep... Her hand rested on the soft fur of little Fiametta, the fennekin still curled up on her lap. Wondrously she moved her hand; slowly, carefully. The slow rise and fall of Fia's chest continued with the slow pattern of sleep. It was hard to imagine that she'd been scared, or nervous about meeting Fia just a few hours ago. It was hard not to pull the fox into a close hug- she resisted, barely. Best let Fia rest.
Julie tried to catch Victoria's eyes, waiting for the woman to sense her gaze. "How long?" she asked softly. Victoria smirked and raised two fingers pinched together. Soon. Excited, Julie looked back out the window. But...all she could see was trees. At some point they'd entered a forest, and it didn't look like it'd be ending any time soon.

Brian walked into his parents house with a light grin on his face. Getting his first Pokemon from Professor Birch, being able to actually start his journey, had him just a little giddy with excitement, though he tempered it with the knowledge that he would be on his own from here on out. Granted, he would still ask his parents for help when necessary, but he was going to try to do as much as he could on his own. He wouldn't be completely alone, of course; he would always have his Pokemon by his side.
That being said, he looked down at the Torchic he'd received from the Professor, then pulled out his Pokedex to scan it. He was slightly surprised to see that it was a female; female starters were much more rare than the males. She had a decent moveset, too, though that could always be better. He would have to come up with a training regime that would work to Torchic's strengths, but that could wait until they actually started traveling. Right now, he had other matters to attend to.
Brian had just finished scanning his new Torchic when his mother, Anna, came into the living room. She smiled when she saw him, and he looked up at her and returned her smile. "Meet Tessa," he said, indicating the Torchic. Anna walked over and knelt down to let the Fire-type approach her, and Tessa did so with no hesitation. "She's friendly, isn't she?" she said. Brian nodded.
"Yes, she is," he said, watching as the starter cheeped happily at his mother. "Professor Birch asked me to tell ye hi when I left the lab." Anna nodded; she'd had a feeling Birch would have said something similar. "Once the eggs arrive, I'll have your father take a couple of them over to the lab for the Professor," she said, and Brian nodded. "By the way, where is Grace?" he asked. He'd thought the second member of his team would have been waiting to greet him at the door.
"She's right there," Anna said, nodding toward the couch, and Brian turned to see his little Psychic/Fairy-type friend standing there, staring at him with a cute little smile. "There ye are," he said, walking toward her. "Are ye ready to head out, Grace?" The Ralts in question gave a nod, letting out a simple "Ral!" in response. Brian chuckled and held a Pokeball out to her, and the Ralts pushed the button and was sucked inside the device, which didn't even shake once before dinging to signify a successful capture. He immediately let her out of the ball once the capture was complete, knowing how she felt about enclosed spaces. "I'm getting ready to head out to Oldale Town," he said, turning to his mother. "Is there anything ye want me to pick up while I'm there?"
"Actually, there is," Anna said, rising from her kneeling position as Tessa returned to Brian. "Could you pick up some Oran and Pecha berries from the Pokemart? I'm nearly out, and you know how cranky Abby can get when she doesn't have her berries." Brian nodded solemnly; Abby, his mother's Lucario, loved Oran berries, and could get quite annoyed if she didn't have at least one per day. "Of course, I'll pick some up and bring them back here," he said.
"No need to come all the way back here just to drop off some berries, son," said his father, Adam, who had just walked into the room. "Just take Kaza with you. He'll get them back here quicker than you'd be able to walk." Kaza was his father's Alakazam, and one of his most trusted companions. Brian nodded, not even flinching as the aforementioned Psychic-type appeared beside him without a sound; he was used to the Alakazam's random appearances. Once he was ready to head out (Anna wanted to make sure he had everything in his bag that he would need, including a map of the region), Brian waved goodbye to his parents and returned Tessa to her Pokeball after placing Grace on his right shoulder, then walked out the door, wanting to get to Oldale Town before dark.

The forest vista persisted, giving no warning of how soon they would reach the station. One moment they were trundling along, and in the next they weren't. Julie felt her excitement melting into a sickly nervousness squiggling around in her stomach. The thought of parting ways with Victoria and being on her own scared her now that it was so close. Trying to keep a hold of the excited butterflies almost made it worse. She pulled Fia a little closer, and the fox murmured a long squeaky yawn and snuggled in closer. Okay, that made her feel better. Oh, Fia was so warm. Julie giggled and stroked her pokemon.
By the time the train actually stopped, Julie was feeling settled. Still nervous, but centered enough that she could give Victoria a cheerful goodbye. "Check in with me with your phone.""Yes, Victoria.""Remember, you can ask an officer or nurse at the pokemon center if you're in trouble.""Yes Victoria.""Call me immediately if you need help." Julie chuckled. "Yes Victoria. And-" she piped up, cutting off her aunt, "-I'll be sure to say hello when I reach Rustboro."

☆ ☆【 Zane perked up as a soft chime noise emanated from his Rotom phone, followed by the familiar digitized voice as it announced, ”Kartendownload erfolgreich! Jetzt zeigen...” The screen blacked out for a moment with only a white circle in the center to indicate buffering, and then a full map of the entire Hoenn region flashed onto the screen with labels and everything. He could see Littleroot Town immediately to the south of the largest and most prominent landmass of the region, with Oldale sitting directly north from here. ”Many thanks, Roto-Phone, it’s much appreciated,” he said with a warm smile, now feeling a touch more comfortable having a means of navigating around without worry of getting lost. The Rotom Phone gave a cheery little electric warble as it bounced up and down in the air, seeming quite pleased at the praise.
Gently tapping the screen to set a map marker for Oldale, Zane picked up movement out of the corner of his eye as Marzipan and Filo returned with their newfound bounty in hand. ”Oh? Did you two find something, then?” he asked, peering inside the bag as the Lopunny dropped it into his hands. Interesting… There were certainly some useful items in here, they’d certainly come in handy for later on down the line once he could get the rest of his team together. ”And these were not… stolen, ja?” Filo hastily shook her head ‘no’, while Marzipan simply crossed her arms and followed suit with her teammate in a much calmer, more collected manner. Even if they had been stolen, which of course what were the chances of that possibility; it hadn’t looked like anyone else had come to claim them beforehand. So by default, they were free for them to take as far as the Lopunny was concerned.
Giving a soft hum of approval, Zane tucked the bag away into his backpack for safekeeping, gesturing for them to follow along so they could finally set off on the road to Oldale when he suddenly found himself face to face with a figure that definitely hadn’t been there before. A lone Abra was hovering there on the path before them, immediately reeling back in surprise to keep from being bumped into by the human that had gotten a bit too close for comfort. ”Oh goodness! Pardon me, my friend, I didn’t see you there for a moment,” the young boy hastily apologized, unable to help but smile a bit as the Abra seemed to get a little flustered at the apology and tried to casually wave it off with one hand, ”May we help you?”
The Abra’s ears perked at the question, fiddling nervously with what seemed to be a letter clutched in its hands before floating a bit closer and handing it out for the trainer to take. Accepting the piece of vellum paper, Zane unfolded it and read the message written down within in very fancy looking cursive writing:
“To whom it may concern, please advise,
The daycare on Easter Island has run into some problems with getting Pokemon eggs off the island this year, and we are humbly requesting for any kind trainers to send a Pokemon or two to the island to aid with the hatching of our eggs!
In return, we are offering some generous rewards for those who are willing to pitch in, including keeping any of the baby Pokemon that hatch! If interested, please send your Pokemon of choice to the island via our handy Abra teleportation services, and thank you in advance for your help!”
Easter Island, huh? He felt like he had heard stories of a place like that before… a whole island dedicated to the raising of various Pokemon eggs. It was an interesting prospect for sure, and Zane certainly wasn’t one to ignore a call for help when it was needed. But who could he send over to the island to help out in the meantime…? ”Marzi… Would you be fine with going there?” he asked, looking towards the Lopunny curiously. Marzipan had always had a very strong motherly instinct, and if any of his Pokemon were well suited for a task like this… she would be the one. The Lopunny’s brows knitted a bit, unsure of how she felt about just leaving Zane to go to this new place if there was a possibility of him running into trouble… But at the same time, it wouldn’t feel right to simply ignore the message…
Figuring that if anyone was going to go and that it might as well be her, Marzipan gave a nod, turning to Filo momentarily and bending down to give the little grass dino a gentle pat on the head. ”Hey, take good care of our trainer while I’m away. And please try not to wander off too much, okay?” The Chikorita’s eyes widened in wonder and awe at the Lopunny’s words, feeling blessed to have such a responsibility bestowed upon her. Right… she could definitely do that! Nothing bad would befall her new trainer as long as she was on the lookout, she’d make sure of it! ”M’am yes m’am!” she chirruped in return, raising one of her little legs to give a somewhat clumsy salute.
Chuckling softly under her breath, Marzipan gave an approving nod before straightening herself, moving to stand over with the Abra who was waiting expectantly. ”We’ll likely be over in Oldale by the time you’ve finished up, so just bring her back there, ja?” Zane asked, at least so the little psychic type would know where to go afterwards once all was said and done. With an astute nod, the Abra turned to the Lopunny, reaching out and gently resting a hand on her arm. There was a brief flash of blue light, and in a blink the pair had vanished completely into thin air… 】☆ ☆

Well, that had certainly gone much better than Myth thought it would have. Professor Birch seemed like a lovely man indeed, and the fact that he was so welcoming despite Myth’s age had left a positive impression on him. He was never the superstitious type, but maybe this was meant to be an omen of sorts, and a good one at that. As such, Myth wandered back into Littleroot Town with a spring in his step. After spending so long holed away in this tiny town, he’d finally have a chance to set out again into the world.
But before he could, of course, trouble had to arise. The new Torchic Myth had been gifted from Birch was currently investigating a small bush to the side of one of the houses and chirping at it in an almost standoffish way. Myth wandered towards her, only to blink in surprise at the bush’s contents.
A fluffy pokemon poked its head out of the foliage, then a much spikier one. They each offered their greetings to Myth and Torchic, with the latter beginning to sniff the duo out. Both of these pokemon were ones Myth didn’t recognize, and the Pokédex gifted by Birch provided little resolution to his questions. A Mareep and a Larvitar apparently, but how did they get here? The Pokédex said they came all the way over from Johto! If they were native to the area, Myth was sure he would’ve seen at least one of them before now.
Unsure on what to do, Myth crouched down besides the two little pokemon and exhaled a concerned hum. “You aren’t from around here, are you?” He asked, pausing again before speaking once more, “Are you lost?”
The two pokemon stared at each other for a moment. The Mareep nodded before the Larvitar had a chance to respond, prompting it to give a flustered growl.
“Hey now, it’s alright!” Said Myth. He reached into his bag and pulled out a pair of pokeballs and nudged them in front of the pair, “I’m not telling you what to do, but I don’t exactly think it’s safe for you two to be out here alone. Would you like to travel with me until we can get you somewhere safer? Maybe a sanctuary or something.”
The duo looked at the balls pensively, before tapping the buttons along the center of the balls and allowing themselves to be captured. Myth was quick to release them again afterwards, his expression growing a little weary at the realization of what he had just done.
“There we go. I guess I’ll have to think of names for you guys, right?”

“Yeah,” Said Myth, looking over the trio of Pokemon he had somehow managed to acquire within the past thirty minutes, “You guys need names. N-Not that your species names are bad or anything! It just … Feels weird to not give you guys a name. I mean, it’s like calling me ‘human.’”
The Torchic peeped almost in an annoyed fashion and stalked towards Myth, whom promptly took up a defensive stance. Quick as a flash, the Torchic dashed forward and swiped its claws out towards Myth and struck the space behind him. A local Wurmple had been chewing on his clothes.
Dumbfounded, Myth blinked and forced himself into a relaxed posture. “I, uh— Wow, okay. Thank you. Sorry for doubting you, I just assumed you were going to slash me.”
The Torchic huffed in response and wandered back over to Myth. Those feathers were a glorious color, weren’t they? A deep, ruddy orange with tinges of dark red here and there.
Myth got an idea. “Hey,” He said, “How about the name Carmine? Like the color. I think it might suit that plumage of yours.” The newly-anointed Carmen fluffed up her feathers in return, seemingly approving of the nickname.

With the Wurmple having since been vanquished, Myth wandered along with his pokemon by his side. Carmine had a name now, but the other two were still nameless for the time being. That was no good— He’d have to fix that.
“What about you two?” He asked, ”You need names, don’t you? If you want, we could match you with Carmine and do something based off of colors. Something yellow-y and something greenish.”
Gently, Myth picked up the Mareep and held it in his arms. Its wool was staticky and clung to his fingertips, threatening to shock. Yet, it was deceptively soft. The Mareep meanwhile happily wriggled at being carried, seeming to enjoy the attention. It was sweet, really.
“Honey,” Myth echoed, “I think that’s fitting. Two down, and one left. I’m sure we’ll think of something on the way to the next town, right?”

Meditite walked behind his trainer while watching him curiously. The energy Remmy had was familiar-- he was obviously looking to stir things up, wherever they were going. Well.... not 'wherever'. Meditite knew where. Some festival that Remmy had read about on their way here. He imagined that the appeal for his trainer was less the rides, activities, and games that might be provided, and instead the trouble he could brew up, and the crowds he could use for cover.
... Well, and maybe the rides, if there were any. Remmy loved a highspeed death trap of a rollercoaster after all.

Brian walked into his parents house with a light grin on his face. Getting his first Pokemon from Professor Birch, being able to actually start his journey, had him just a little giddy with excitement, though he tempered it with the knowledge that he would be on his own from here on out. Granted, he would still ask his parents for help when necessary, but he was going to try to do as much as he could on his own. He wouldn't be completely alone, of course; he would always have his Pokemon by his side.
