Dashner Hawke

"Oy, I'm doing fine... If I weren't so hungry. Oh, thanks Roswell."

Dashner had got out his wallet to pay the cashier when she asked, but then put it away as Merabell walked through the door. Dashner looked over and waved. She waved back, moving toward the three.

"Brrr, it's gotten chilly!" He heard Heath exclaim. Yep, Merabell did that.

"Hey Dashner, Melody, and Roswell," she said, smiling at them. "It's nice to see you all again."

She looked at Roswell and looked at his card, "Roswell, you know you must be careful when it comes to things like this, money does eventually run out."

It was nice of him to purchase food, but he did have to make sure he didn't run out of the money he just had, however much he had.

She looked over at Mera as she sat down and gave another smile, "Mera, how lovely to see you, again!"

The last time all of them were really together was the circus fiasco and that was a couple of weeks ago.

Mera and Dashner did look cute together, it made her a bit more comfortable than just sitting with Roswell alone, but she still gave his hand a small touch just to let him know she was happy to be with him as well.

"Huh?" He'd have to ask Melody another time on what she meant, as just then Mera walked in. "Hey Mera! Haven't seen you in a while! Whats up? besides the sky? Heh." Oh that never got old.

And even better! Their food was being served!!

"Argright! My Pizza and booscarry pie are here!" He was positively gleeful!

"Do you want some pie?" Another lesson he had to learn was not to eat desert before dinner. He wasn't going to learn that lesson very quickly at all... he may even need repeat lessons.

The awkward pause had gone on long enough. Glen stood up.

"S'cuse us, Marcy, but us boos have to go powder our noses!"
Glen grabbed Rory by the arm.

"We have to what?!" Rory managed to spit out before Glen dragged him across the die-ner to the bathrooms. Inside of the boo's bathroom, Glen finally let go of Rory and rubbed his temples with his index fingers.

"Cousin, cousin, cousin..." Glen started, pacing back and forth. "What are you waiting for? An engraved invitation? Fine!" Glen picked up his iCoffin, hit the 'spell' app he had on it, and gave it a wave. A delicately embossed invitation appeared in mid-air floating in front of Rory. With a perplexed expression on his face, Rory picked it up and opened it.

"ASK MARCY OUT TO THE DAAAAAANCE!" The invitation screamed at him, before dissolving into sparkles. Rory jumped and nearly fell into the mirrors over the sink.

"A-ask Marcy out to....are you kidding?!"

"No, I'm not kidding! You clearly want to go with her! She clearly wants to go with you! It's even obvious to ME and according to Draconia and Hellene, I'm not the sharpest guillotine on the gallows when it comes to figuring out what ghouls like." Glen crossed his arms. He was clearly not going to let Rory out of the bathroom until he agreed to Glen's demands. Rory (gently) gritted his teeth while trying to hexplain himself.

"Well, it's just that...I mean...you see...she...and then there's...uhm...." Rory took a deep breath. "Marceline deserves to have the hottest, smartest, fastest, bravest, strongest, most clawesome guy in school take her to the dance, not a fractured freak who's terrified of the dance floor!"

Rory had his eyes screwed shut as he shouted, and he finally opened one to see what Glen's reaction would be. Glen was looking away, one hand on his forehead and the other propping up his elbow.

"Rory. Rory, Rory, Rory." Glen sighed. And then sighed again. And then sighed a third time for maximum sighing effect. "The hottest, smartest, fastest, bravest, strongest, most clawesome guy in school already HAS a date to the dance. He's taking ME!" Glen put an arm around Rory's shoulders, as if consoling his cousin.

"We are going to work on this self-confidence issue of yours, cuz! You won't get far in Monster High if every little social event has you cracking up! Er...not literally, of course. But we have to get you out there! Interacting with other monsters, not just sitting on the other side of the mirror watching. Live unlife to the fullest, you know?"

"HEY!" The sound of someone pounding on the bathroom door interupted the two witches. "HURRY UP IN THERE! I CAN'T HOLD IT ANYMORE!"

"Eep." Rory swallowed as Glen grinned, unlocked the door and ushered him back into the Die-ner, past a gargoyle boy crossing his legs in a panic.

Marceline sat by herself in the booth while Glen and Rory egressed to the bathroom. She wondered if maybe she had said something wrong... the ritual of finding a date for a dance seemed far too complicated for what it was worth. She'd decided that, if she was to go with anyone, she'd want to go with Rory. But asking him was out of the question; this wasn't a Shady Hawkins dance, as far as she knew. Meanwhile her old-fashioned updigging led her to believe the boo should ask the ghoul, not the other way around.

They'd been gone for what felt like forever. Marceline's stomach twisted while lurching in hunger pain, and her feet tapped fangxiously, shifting her glance around the die-ner. When she finally could take it no longer -- after a grueling three minutes had passed -- she bolted from the table over to where Dashner, Merabell, Roswell and Melody sat.

"Hey, guys!" Her voice crackled as she forced a smile. "Dashner, I don't mean t'tear you away from your double-date but could I borrow you for a second outside???" She didn't even wait for a response; Marcelne grasped Dashner's jacket and tugged him outside, breathing a heavy sigh while feeling the burn of many eyes watching her through the die-ner windows.

"I'm sorry, I kinda freaked." She shifted, tugging at the stray threats in her tailcoat. "I just... I feel like I blew my chances for goin' to the dance with Rory an' I don't even know how I did it! He and Glen just ditched me at the table after I said somethin' about the dance bein' romantic and I have no idea why I feel so WEIRD about it! Ughh..." She grasped the brim of her hat with both sides and pulled it down hard, as if to try to tuck herself away into it and disappear.

Glen steered Rory forcibly around the tables and back to their rear booth, only to find the booth empty.

"Oh no..." Rory appeared crest fallen at the sudden disappearance of Marceline. "She left...?"

"Calm down." Glen said with a pat on the shoulder and a gentle (!?) push that sat Rory back down in the booth. "I'll find her!"

Glen then turned around and pulled out hgis iCoffin and gave it a wave before levitating himself up into the air so he could see around the die-ner.

"Oi!" Glen shouted, bringing all conversations in the place to a grinding halt.

"Oi?" Rory asked aloud.

Glen shrugged,
"I learned a thing or two from my Drakie." Glen looked back around and called out, "Anybloody seen Marci!? Rory here wants to ask her to Tombcoming!"

Dashner nodded and listened to her story, and hesitated to reply. He really felt bad for her, because he had been in the same situation before.

"All I can say is, don't worry about it. I know it's hard... But if Rory doesn't ask you to the dance, that's his loss. And if he doesn't, come to the dance and I'll dance with you, as beasties." He smiled, putting his hands in his pockets.

Rory's cheeks burned a shiny red as every eyeball in the Die-ner turned to stare at him following Glen's pronouncement. Rory was used to people staring towards him, after all, that was what mirrors were for, but less used to people staring directly at him. He shrunk down in the booth and became utterly absorbed in studying the crackled pattern on the tabletop.

"Yo, Heath, have you seen where Marcy went?" Glen shouted at Heath Burns.

"Nope. Who's Marcy? Is she hot?"

Rory creeped an eye out the window, and spotted Marceline talking to Dashner Hawke. His heart sunk. Oh, no! Dashner was asking Marceline out! He was too late. What a fool! His one chance, completely sunk.

"Merabell! Have you seen Marceline?" Glen shouted at the table Melody, Roswell and Merabell were sitting at. "Your mom's a P.I., you must have picked up some of her sleuthing skills."

"Yes I did, and my incredible sleuthing skills tell me she's outside with my date for the dance, Dashner, which you could see yourself if you'd turn your head and look out the window, Glen." Merabell responded, rolling her eyes.

"Oh! Thanks!" Glen grabbed Merabell's claw and shook it and headed towards the door.

"Date?" Dashner and Merabell? Then there was no way he was asking Marceline to the dance, was there? That meant Rory still had a chance! Suddenly, scenarios started flashing through Rory's head as possibilities....

Scenario 1
Marceline walked into the Die-ner and sat back down next to Glen and Rory. Rory screwed up his courage and asked.

"Marceline, would you go to the dance with me?" Marceline tilted her head at Rory and replied.

"What? No. Oh, goth, no. NO, no, no, no, no! How could you ask me that, no, a thousand times NO!

*Poof*

Scenario 2
Marceline walked into the Die-ner and sat back down next to Glen and Rory. Rory screwed up his courage and asked.

"Marceline, would you go to the dance with me?" Marceline tilted her head at Rory and replied.

"Pfffftttttt....Bwa ha ha ha ha hahaaaa! HA HA HA HAAA HAHAHAAAA!" She leaned over to a werewolf in the next booth. "Can you BELIEVE that?! He asked...bwa ha ha...me to go....hahahaha....to the DANCE with him....haa haahahahaaaaa!!!!!"

*Poof*

Scenario 3
Marceline walked into the Die-ner and sat back down next to Glen and Rory. Rory screwed up his courage and asked.

"Marceline, would you go to the dance with me?" Marceline tilted her head at Rory and replied.

"AAAIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" She pointed stiffly at Rory as lightning flashed all around and ominous organ music played in the background. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!"

*Poof!*

"Actually....none of those scenarios seem very likely...." Rory mused to himself as Draculaura walked up with their food, breaking up his dayscreams.

"Here you go! Oh, where are the rest of your group! They're going to wind up with cold food and warm drinks!"

"They'll be back soon, thanks, Draculaura." Rory looked down at his sand-witch. Before this meal was done...his dance fate would be decided. Of that he was certain.

Melody left her plate of booberry pie untouched, she was too interested in this new development happening outside.

"Mera? Do you understand what's happening here?" she asked in confusion, continuing to look out the window.

"No, all I know is that Marceline was wanting to talk to Rorrim, and Rorrim wanted to talk to Marceline but because Marceline was gone, Glen went to go look for Marceline."

Melody blinked as she turned to looked at Mera, "But, how did you-"

Mera cut her off, "Sleuthing skills, remember?" she smiled, tapping her forehead, "That and Glen was shouting so loud in here even a deaf ghoul could understand him."

How could she not have heard that?

Either way, this development was interesting.

As Roswell started scarfing down on his booberry pie and screecha, Melody kept her eyes locked on the figures outside, wondering what in ghouls name was going on.

Marceline smiled. "Thanks, Dashner. And thanks for listening to me rant about... I thought that -- "

"THERE you are, Marcie!" Glen popped his head out the doorway, gently grasping Marceline's arm. "Come back inside! Rory has something he wants to ask you!"

"Eep!" Marceline squeaked as she was yanked back to her table. She sat back down in what felt like a hovering doomcloud of awkwardness, staring intently at her spine-akopita sitting in front of her.

"Almost forgot! Here you go, Marceline!" Draculaura dropped a green-capped bottle of red chili sauce on the table and scurried off.

Marceline's eyes flicked back and forth between Rory and her food, until she couldn't resist anymore. She put on a bemused grin and picked up her fork.

"Ah, isn't it nice to come back t'yer table and find your food waiting for you? I am famished!" She sunk her fork into the puff pastry crust, which crunched audibly in the awkward silence of the booth.

This was it. This was the moment. You only got once chance in all of your unlife for your first time asking a ghoul to a dance. Every single detail about this very moment was going to be permanently marked on Rory's memories. The smell of lemon cleaner as Draculaura spritzed down tables. The sound of Marceline chewing...really loudly...on spinach pie. The smell of Glen's Shepard's Die as he poured Red Ghoul on it. The taste of his own sweat. The sight of half of the Die-ner, turned around, staring at him, waiting for him to open his mouth and say it...

"M-marceline-" Rory's voice cracked. Bad sign. He took a deep breath. Come on, Rorrim, he told himself. You can't mess this up. How you ask her is going to forever leave an impression on everyone here about you. Go for it! Do it now!

"DANCE ME WILL GO YOU WITH TO?!"

...

Aw, cracks.

Marceline dropped her fork onto her plate with a loud CLANGGG and clasped both of her hands over her mouth. Was Rory asking her what she thought he was!? And here she was with a mouth full of spine-akopita, unable to respond! She released one hand from her mouth and held up a single finger as she hastily chewed and swallowed her food.

"Okay..." She breathed. "Rory, are you asking me to Tombcoming?"

Rory nodded, and Marceline did her best not to shriek.

"Well, of course I'll go with you! F'sure! Yes!"

Glen immediately turned around in he booth and held his hand out toward Heath Burns, palm up and he wiggled his fingers.

"Pay up Heath! I told you he could do it!"

Heath sighed and slapped a 'five spot' into Glen's waiting palm.

"I understand, I'll just-" Wait, a second. She said yes! Yes! "YES!"

Rory shot his arms in the air.

"YES! YES! YES!" There was a long pause in the Die-ner, as everyone froze, staring at him. He didn't care. "YES! YES! YES!"

Another long pause....and then Heath shot his arms in the air too.

"YES! YES! YES!"

Then the werewolf girl put her arms in the air.

"YES! YES! YES!"

And the gargoyle boy coming out of the bathroom.

"YES! YES! YES!"

Then Glen, Draculaura, and everyone else in the Die-ner, all raising their hands in the air and chanting.

"YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!"

"Hi Aunty Mary! Join in the fun!"

Glen briefly said before continuing the chant with his fiends, drawing attention to Rory's mom watching in confusion from the reflective surface of the napkin dispenser on their table.

"Yes! Yes!"
