She wanted to fight it, she wanted to keep fighting. For her King, for her Kingdom. For the vengeance she still felt so much in what would have been her heart. She hadn't fought much, hadn't done much in this battle but she wanted to remedy it, to fix it and still prove her worth. But she could feel herself slipping away, piece by piece. All the shadows of her being disappointing into nothingness, perhaps returning to the sky that was as black as she loved.
Her Shades had already gone, breaking apart like sand and disappearing as if they were nothing. They would not keep her company at this death that wasn't brought in true battle. She had failed. Her worth. She couldn't bare it even though so much of her couldn't see it any other way, that it would be pitiful and totally not cool.
"I-I'm s-sorry m-my K-king... I h-have failed you..." She whispered, her red eyes closing for the last time as he body fell to the ground. Only to burst into the black Miasma that had created it, drifting for a moment before vanishing.

The shadow fell. Sherry watched it with satisfaction. The grin on her face would have remained for a time, if she hadn't felt so very tired. Something was wrong. Sherry turned and watched as everything continued to collapse.
She realized she was tired. Tired and needing to rest. But she didn't want to. She wanted to continue, to fight...
But it was not be. Not on that battlefield. Whatever held her together broke, and Sherry, servant to the Gatekeeper and the Violet Kingdom, fell.

His run at Uluiru was completely ineffectual. Crispin's limbs were so weak by the time he reached the other man, that all he could do was cling to the bottom of his shirt as he sank to the ground.
"I'm... a Violet -- " there was no time to explain. Pain was lancing through his body -- every inch of skin ached, pain radiating from his very bones. Crispin's face crumpled, as he began simply melting away, fading into the ground.
"I don't -- want -- to die!" he wept, hot tears streaming down the sides of his face; a face that was growing transparent.
His black eyes looked up at Uluiru pleadingly, and then Crispin simply faded away, releasing his shirt as he vanished into nothingness.

Visibly shaken, Uluiru stumbled, coming down onto one knee, bowing his head slightly. He hadn't even known the violet pawn, but he felt...sorrow at his passing. "May you have peace, now." He said quietly, feeling a little bit foolish as he got back to his feet.
With the immediacy of that addressed, he found his feet moving of their own accord, carrying him toward the tower that had been revealed in the last, sky-shattering wave of destruction that ravaged...well, everything.
What was the tower? And why was he being compelled to go to it?

And Marzena too, fell to her knees, gasping for air. Something was wrong. Something was horribly wrong. This was not a battlefield of glory. This was a battlefield where they were all fading away, killed by the very air, by... the...
She could only splutter, clasping her hand over her mouth in an attempt to keep herself alive.
Do you fear Death? The Hierophant had once asked her.
And even in this state right now, she wasn't sure. She had believed in her answer before, but that was before everything had changed.

The one known as Jack had, in fact, been watching the outskirts of the battle, following the shadows as well as he could. He was not a battler - in fact - he was a lover and a thief. A player in the game, but never the one to take the first shot.
It wasn't until the sky started to pour out, that he noticed enough watching in horror close to him. How did he even miss her? Did it even matter anymore?
Taking a deep breath in, one that was ragged and pained him, he took the needed steps to close in on her, hoping not to spook her as he slowly sank in to a sitting position, holding a hand out to her, giving her a pained smile.
"It's not as bad as it sounds." He stated, his voice quiet and a little ragged. "I've done it before." Lifting his fabric, he showed her a jagged scar, right near his heart, a sign of his demise. "It's scary but, when you finish mourning the life you had, you feel at peace, I promise."
Trying to make her feel better about this was all he could do. No one should have to die alone, he was aware of that.

He hadn't known what to expect when he entered the battlefield. Certainly not people slowly dissipating around when they did not seem to have been attacked. Certainly not the sky breaking entirely, certainly not... He saw a strange Tower beyond the horizon, and remembered. They could go towards the Tower and defeat the Voice or--
And then he saw him.
The one who held his brother's face, sitting right beside the Black King and laughing. Fists still clenched at his side, his heart turned cold as he strode purposefully towards the Gatekeeper. The only thing he could think about right now was to save Thack and avenge the death of someone whom he had loved, and had loved him in return.

It was kindness from its least expected source.
Marzena always had been skeptical, a mystery even in her own Kingdom. She had already contributed to the demise of two; one not from her Kingdom and one of the Shadows. She had expected for herself to die here alone, as justice for what she had done. Perhaps she hadn't done it with malice, but she had still done it. Blood was on her hands and this was how she was going to pay for it.
And yet, someone from another Kingdom came to her, and Marzena managed a painful smile. And now she knew her true answer to the Hierophant's question. I fear Death, if I were to die alone. It was simpler than fearing the death of a coward but accepting the death of a hero. She was neither, and thus, this was her answer.
So, even though she had never been one accepting of any body contact in general, she took his hand. "If it is as you say," she choked out. "Then... it's nothing to fear, I suppose."
Funny how she could take someone's words seriously right now, someone she would normally not trust.

Whisper had never felt so weak in her life. It was a terrible feeling of everything just being drained out of you. She knew her last moments were close, and she had never felt so lost. She just didn't know which action to take. Perhaps take someone out with her? But wasn't that a cowards way out? Perhaps. But would it matter now? It seemed the end was near.
Through the blurs of colours and chaos, she saw a violet denizen take one of her own. This could be her last purpose, her final act that would be so true to her kingdom. A final act of revenge. And honestly, she wouldn't have had it any other way. She focused and unleashed the voices blessing.

The sky made her uncomfortable. Tomoko looked up towards it with a look of pain on her face, as though watching the sky crack apart actually hurt her as well. Then again, it did have some connotations to it that didn't sit well with her.
And yet, the battlefield was falling into just as much disrepair - people were falling for no reason, and there was one thing she couldn't help but feel - "Erebus." she reached out for his arm, following along with him and speaking to the Cerberus with a low murmur, "Do you think this means that whoever has built all of this is just..tearing it apart?" she inquired, glancing towards the false Thackery with a frown.
"We need to wake him up as soon as we can if that's the case.." Or else we'll never be able to find him. She didn't say it, but she was definitely thinking it.

He had seen it the moment they had arrived, but he had refused to acknowledge it. His precious 2nd lieutenant and trusted sergeant were gone, poor mimicries of what had been two of his precious crewmen, but they were dead. It was just another failure for Wilson to shoulder. The king focused on his attacker instead. He quirked an eyebrow at Rex as he attacked him; it was only a scratch.
Keen eyes turned toward Roch. He cocked his head and eyed the mechanic. “Try to make it soon, and try not to die. I’m tired of watching my crew die. I will take down anyone who dares to pull you away from me.” The king’s voice took on a possessive tone. One by one, his subjects joined his side and he visibly relaxed. It was comforting to be surrounded by familiar faces and to know that they were nearby; he could step in and attack anyone who dared to hurt his own.
But it filled him with grief to see one of his own garbed in a silver outfit instead. “…2nd lieutenant,” he noted, sorrowfully eyeing Pokerus’ clothes. At first he wondered if she had switched sides, but the simple title erased such worries. No, something had happened, but she would remain loyal to him. Wilson reached out to pat her on the head. “It’s okay,” he murmured, “Just stay by my side. Don’t die.”
Yet as he spoke with Pokerus, Bix grew closer and closer to death. He heard the officer call out to him weakly. By the time Wilson turned around, he had already been hit a second time. Horror plagued his features as he stared at the remnants of miasma that had once been Bix. “…Bix?” The hard features of his expression faded away and if Elliot had been here, he would’ve noticed it immediately. Elliot would’ve noticed how childlike Wilson suddenly seemed, so similar to when the commander had first been brought onto the ship.
“Bix, no…” His voice trailed off as he stepped toward the spot where Bix had been. It almost seemed like he would fall into another shell shock, but he still stood, a myriad of emotions flickering across his face as he struggled to fight between his grief at yet another failure and grim determination to keep moving. The sky was crumbling to reveal a tower. It was clear to see what he had to do next, but he had yet again failed to heed his promise.
He stared into nothingness, his fists clenching and unclenching. Move.
He could feel the pressure of the air around him continually affect him. What was this feeling? Why was he feeling like this?
Spotting their Captain, the Ganerie raised an arm to gather the other's attention, and then it hit. His body gave out; he had taken too much damage.
How? Why was it too late already? Already...?
The last thing Marosa did was drop his arm and reach for Sharra, his body falling towards him, arms embracing tightly as his bright eyes stared into the other's.
"... oi love ye..." Marosa whispered, softly.
And then he was gone.

"'Suppose that sounds about right." He stated, as he lightly squeezed her hand - the gestures of them holding hands was warming to him - something that he could pass on, again, thinking.
Giving a long sigh, he watched the battlefield and his own vision start to blacken. So tired, so tired. A memory he did not wish to remember. Softly, he pulled his remaining hand under the fabric at his chest, rubbing his wound softly, as if it had reopened and started pouring out his life-force as it did once.
The demise of the thief turned good - a return of something that the owner could not live without. How funny it was, that when he was at his ends, that he found himself trying to be a good man - someone to look up to.
With a long, painful laugh, he sat back, body sagging against a small hill in the battlefield. "Is that all there is, my friend. They let's keep dancing - let's break out the booze, and have, a ball . . " He lightly sang for her, eyes dropping, closing on him.
"Is that . . . all there is?"He finished, before letting one last breath out. This was good enough.
This was his end.

It seemed things were speeding along now, what with he sky going black and hearing the voice speak to them once more. But that infinite power she had felt before, it was strained now, as if even the voice was fading away. And then she saw it; a strange silver tower in the distance...
She could feel it calling out to her, but she first had to attend to the commander. To hear the commander respond to him with her previous title....He still thought of her as her own, even if her clothing was now different. It filled her with such emotion, she could hardly contain it. She could feel tears welling up inside her, They threatened to spill out and make such a mess of her and she wasn't having that. But when that hand reached to pat her on the head. She felt like a child again with her mother, being reassured that it was alright. She wasn't in trouble and they were there with her. But that request....
"...Yes, commander..." She bit back a sob. She knew it was something she could not promise. Because they were all going to die. But she would try. Dammit she would try...
She then looked around and saw with horror that someone else had perished. It was clear the commander was distraught with this. and if that wasn't the kicker then someone else had perished as well. They would both go to the same place she had, find out the same information. Though the quesiton would be if they would come back here...
She began to feel the pull of the tower. She couldn't resisted it, but dam well she was sitll going to try. Not yet, I can't go yet!
