The male is deep blue and black, whereas the female is green above and buff or creamy below, streaked with green and light blue on the breast.

The male is purple with black wings, tail and throat, and bright yellow legs. The female has green upperparts, a greenish-blue head, buff throat and buff-streaked bluish underparts.
