She had to admit, she preferred the Conquest Isles.
Perhaps Serafina should keep an open mind, and accept the fact that not everything was going to be as graceful and nice as the Conquest Isles had been, but while this place was certainly colourful and interesting to look at, so much of it was out of reach, out of place. impossible to reach... much like this rope tying class, perhaps.
She pursued her lips at it, scrunched her nose, and decided, well, it was time to get to work. Here's to hoping this just worked the first time and she didn't have to retry it over and over. It seemed like more fun to rope people and bring them over to her, anyway. Maybe at the cost of embarrassing them ... and she was rather tired of embarrassing herself, anyway,
Unfortunately, there was no such luck today, as her knot ended up falling apart in the most spectacular fashion.
Well.
Let's try that again, shall they?

With a sigh, Serafina cracked her knuckles, looking down at her rope. This was silly. Why did she have to lasso people? That didn't seem very ... intuitive, not at all like what she had learned prior. She preferred the luck games, the chance games, the charms and the delicious smelling incense already.
Of course, she wasn't complaining!
Why would she do that?
Never complain.
Make the best impression possible.
Right.
Serafina pulled very lightly on her surgical mask before setting back to work once more, playing with the sides of the rope and hoping that she managed to actually get a successful tie this time. It couldn't be that hard, could it?
...And no luck.
She was making a rather poor spectacle of herself, wasn't she? With a small eep, she ducked her head down a bit, burying herself in her own roped mess.

She'd get it this time.
Staring down her rope, she attempted to wrestle it down into some semblance of a proper "lasso," for whatever reason.
A hidden smirk of victory formed on her face when she managed to get it proper, pleased to see the knot form and tighten at long last. Finally! Now she could rope some people! She would make the best of this. Could be rather fun, right? No one had aimed at her yet, so maybe no one expected her. Perhaps that would make it easier for her to lasso some people, eh? Maybe she could go for some of the more gullible looking ones and bring them close to her, charm them with a smile ... wait.
Her mouth was hidden.
Well. Too bad her abilities were not useful here. Ah well. She pulled at the lasso, before stepping forward, looking around for someone she could lasso.

Perhaps she should try that floating elemental over there. Her eyes caught her, went over her form, and Serafina nodded. That seemed like a good choice. Maybe she would get extra points for lassoing something without legs... always important to impress, after all!
Rearing her arm back, she swirled the lasso above her head.
"Aha!"
That worked rather well. There was a rather pleased grin on her face as she saw the lasso sink around the floating elemental, successfully managing to lasso them for her amusement.

But she had to get three people, not just one. Alright. So she'd give it another go. Once she managed to gather her rope back from the elemental, her eyes scanned the room again, looking out for another target. Perhaps she would meet her mark again? Round and round the rope went above her head as she attempted to find a second ghoul or boil to rope, stopping upon that lotus-coloured girl who had almost gotten her in trouble last week by framing her with the Conquest Isles.
Well.
She'd make a good target. Her eyes shined almost wickedly as she moved to attempt to lasso her.

(( Attempt two at lassoing same girl? I believe that's what we're supposed to do with the 'try again' sorry if I'm wrong ;; ))
Well, that was a spectacular failure. Serafina pouted a bit as the lasso fell uselessly to the ground.
Well.
That just meant she would have to try again. Pleased, she picked up the rope, beginning to swirl it over her head once again. This time, she would lasso that ghoul!
Her eyes lit up as, this time, she met her mark, the lasso sinking around the familiar pink-haired ghoul. Much better! Pleased, she filed this away as her little revenge, and then pulled off, undoing the lasso when she thought was appropriate so she could finish this class out. Now who was to be her final target...

And her final attempt was here!
Alright, who should she go for now? Her eyes scanned over those who was gathered one last time, watching the way lassos swirled in the air, sinking and missing, and the way some were even more frustrated with the rope than she had been--well, good, perhaps she hadn't totally embarrassed herself ... or the others had embarrassed themselves more than she had, which was actually fine too.
Right, lassoing time. Her eyes immediately zoned in on the first boil she saw, swirling her lasso around before attempting to rope them up.

...And failure hit again.
She wasn't very good at this, was she? And her wrist was starting to pain her. Maybe she never had recovered from her silly dancing that she had done the other day. She'd rather go back to Kumiko, or something. At least that seemed more sensible than futile attempts at actually lassoing people. Of course, she had succeeded in grabbing those two ghouls, especially the one of lotus--that was certainly worth a victory, and she might-as-well give it another shot.
It was with that thought that she gave it one last go, swirling the lasso over her head and throwing it forward.
...Wow she was bad at this.

Somehow, instead, she ended up lassoing herself.
Frustrated, Serafina's eyebrows knit, scrambling to get herself out of the lovely mess she had managed to get herself in. If she hadn't been embarrassing herself before, she was certainly doing so now. Perhaps this wasn't where she belonged. At least she hadn't gotten laughed at while she was at the Isles of Conquest ... well, not laughed at too much. She probably was going to be the laughing stock of the week here. Couldn't even figure out how to use a damned lasso.
Her enthusiasm was nearly gone entirely as she swirled it above her head half-heartedly and attempted, one last time--again, she told herself, definitely the last time this time, she couldn't be that bad could she? no that would jinx her, likely, if Serafina could find a way to pull that off admist her terrible rodeo skills--to finally capture someone within her lasso.
Finally!
Her rope had sunk around some ... red demon. She didn't care what it had sunk around! All she was... well, she was just glad. At least she finally managed to figure it out, eventually, even if it had taken a few tries...
And she was done now, so she was all too happy to drop her lasso and flee.

DAY TWO Faiza and Radha had neglected to mention that when they mentioned to arrive at the meeting spot "bright and early," they meant that everyone should arise and wake up before dawn and meet them there. Upon discovering the lack of students, the two War horsemen had returned to the dorms and woke the formerly sleeping students up. They gave an approving nod to those who were already up, requesting that they head on over to the class meeting place while they continued to wake those that still slept. Anyone who attempted to burrow back into their bed would find the hammock they were assigned suddenly upended, flipping them out and onto the floor for a much harsher and rude awakening. When they had attempted to wake each and every student, Faiza and Radha had departed for the class meeting place. They did not seem to mind if they were followed, or if someone cursed them and went back to bed. After all, it was up to each and every student to decide whether they wished to learn from them or not. They weren't about to go force their lessons down everyone's throat, yet in the same vein neither of them was hesitant about attempting to bring them together. "Good, enough of you showed up." Radha began without preamble, standing upon the fallen log she and her sister were sitting on the day before. Faiza was busy handing out more vines the students had constructed, giving an approving nod and clap on the shoulders to those who had the forethought to bring the ones they made yesterday back to class. "Today you are going to go out into the wilderness of War and search. There are many animals on this island, some cunning and not so cunning." Radha spread her hands out, gesturing towards the forest surrounding them. "We of War live in the trees, and the animals themselves prowl upon the ground. We respect each other, as warrior to warrior as animals of any kind are not to be trifled with. Even the lowest rat can fight like an enraged jaguar when backed into a corner." "And that's what brings us to today," Faiza said, jumping up to stand next to her sister to look over them. "Since we horsemen ride horses, we figured you guys could go out and find mounts of your own to ride for a bit since you can't exactly... well." She raised a hand and twirled it vaguely, indicating Fear and natural abilities, "Since you can't exactly use your own talents and skills here. Radha and I made sure that the area has a variety of large mounts to choose from. It'll be up to each of you to find one that strikes your fancy, lasso it, and earn its respect." "Nothing can ever truly be tamed," Radha broke in wryly. "Even the most pampered pet can dream of running wild and can bite the hand that feeds it. What you will need to do is earn its respect, either through force or through Fear." The horseman stopped, tilting her head to one side to consider the students before her. "You... do know how to summon Fear to yourselves and not use it, yes?" There was a pause. The two horsewomen studied the students before them. Neither moved, but there was a sudden feeling in the air, the sheer knowledge that even though they appeared to be close in age to the students they were far, far more experienced when it came to combat. Either one could simply reach out and effortlessly defeat you without exerting effort, without a thought. They were dangerous, and perhaps taking a step back would be a good idea -- The pressure seemed to lift, fading as quickly as if someone let out a held breath. Faiza grinned and shrugged. "And that is how you do it. You guys may have your talents locked off, but I bet you guys could look intimidating if you wanted to. Just square your shoulders and do what comes naturally." "Or if you are still struggling, imagine some armor created out of Fear. Then picture yourself putting it on," Radha shrugged. "That is the method that I personally use." The more serious of the two horsemen looked up at the sky, as if she could see the sun through the canopy above. "Sunrise is coming soon. I suggest each of you begin to look for a suitable mount, and return here when you have found one. We will stable and take care of it. If you are lost, please shout. Myself, Faiza, or another clansman will be nearby and able to bring you back." The Task For today, you are to acquire a mount. This mount will be the one that you will use for the next couple of lessons, so choose wisely! You will need to roll to determine what you run into. You may reroll as many times as you like before today's class ends if you do not like the one you rolled. There are six types of mounts: Tortoise Wolf Jaguar Tarantula Small Dragon (note: cannot fly) Mountain Goat
Each mount will come with its own advantages and disadvantages, which will be revealed tomorrow. These advantages and disadvantages are largely for RP purposes; there is no "best" choice. In order to locate a mount, please roll one 20-sided dice. You do not need to follow the prompt exactly; you may deviate from it if you'd like. The only thing you may not change is the type of animal you run into. Quote: Quote: You find nothing. You feel something following you. Turns out it's a wolf, which eyes you hungrily. Or it's a Tarantula, which also eyes you hungrily. (YOU PICK) You find nothing. You manage to find a tortoise! You find a small dragon waddling through the jungle. What you mistake to be a rock turns out to be a large, rocky tortoise. You find nothing. Or a very large Tarantula. (YOU PICK) You manage to come across a mountain goat. In the middle of a jungle. Oookay. What you take to be a giant mossy boulder turns out to be a small dragon. You find nothing. A strange sound makes you look up and into the yellow eyes of a goat up in a tree. Might want to consider getting it down before attempting to tame it. Alternatively, the sound could also be coming from beneath a very large tree where you can see several pairs of eyes staring at you... Sup Tarantula? (YOU PICK) Something tugs at your clothes. Turns out it's a goat, currently chewing up your clothes. You might want to do something about that... A jaguar drops down from above onto you! Take an unavoidable -5 HP! You find nothing. As you come across a river, you see a small dragon lurking just beneath the surface. You find nothing. Except for the very large Tarantula. You trip over a tortoise calmly munching on some leaves. You follow the haunting cry of a lone wolf and come across it. Eventually. You walk past it two times before finally sitting down on what looks to be an inviting rock, only to have it shift and move under you. Hi tortoise! You find nothing.
Once you have located the mount you like, you must catch tame earn its respect. To do so, roll your attack dice twice. WHAT DO I ROLL Quest Students: Roll 4d6 Year One Students: Roll 4d6 Year Two Students: Roll 4d8 Year Three Students: Roll 4d10 2d6 = two, 6-sided dice The first two dice represent your character's ability to use their Fear to tame a wild animal. The last two dice represents the wild animal's resistance to your character's Fear. In order to tame the animal, your attack must be higher than the creature you're trying to tame: best two out of three. If both of you miss (roll a total that is 0 or lower after subtracting), then it is considered a tie. Please roll again. IN ENGLISH PLEASE Stumped? Let's say you're a Quest Student and you encounter a tortoise. You roll four 6-sided dice and get 6, 5, 3, and 4. Your character's result: 6+5 = 11-6 = 5 Tortoise's result: 3+4 =7-6 = 1 As your total is higher than the tortoise's, you're halfway through taming it! Roll another 4d6 to see whether you tame it, or if it resists you. If the tortoise's roll is higher, you can reroll one more time. Let's say the tortoise out-rolls you twice. It beat you 2/3, and as a result it just ambled off into the jungle. You will need to reroll the 20-sided dice to encounter another animal and try again.. CAN I GET A TLDR PLZ Step One: Roll one 20-sided dice. RP out the result. Step Two: Reroll the 20-sided dice until you encounter an animal. Step Three: Roll for taming. See the above chunk for your dice. Step Four: Get a higher roll than the animal twice. Step Five: Enjoy your new mount! exclaim When you have caught a mount, please add this code to your post exclaim
MOUNT GET! Character Name: Mount Acquired:
FAQ Q: I don't like the animal I got. Can I trade with someone?Nope. Just reroll until you get the one that strikes your fancy please! Q: Is there a difference between the animals?Yep. The details will be revealed in the next part, but have some hints: Quote: Tortoise: Slow, steady, and pro-green. Dislikes certain types of students. Mountain Goat: An oddity, but at least it likes everyone. Or likes eating their clothes. Wolf: Vicious, swift, and pro-meat. Dislikes certain types of students. Small Dragon: Still can't fly. Jaguar: Hates everyone. Tarantula: So mysterious that even Maru forgot about them.
Q: How long do I have to seek out a mount?Until the next GM post, roughly 24 hours. Q: What if I still don't have a mount by then? Please wait and see. Q: Why are the rolls different per year?Mounts scale up depending on how much Fear you have. aka Maru wants everyone to get used to rolling and subtracting battle dice because she's the one who made the battle system and has an excuse to use its mechanics because she can.Q: I'm a Y2, and I haven't taken my exam yet to be Y3! I have enough points, can I roll Y3 rolls? You may, as the horsemen trials count as an exam~ However if you choose to use Y3 rolls, please stick with Y3 rolls for the rest of class. Q: How do I know I'm a Y3?FOR NOW if you participated in the horseman trials AND have enough points to be Y3, consider yourself Y3. Q: I have enough points and I participated... do I have to roll Y3?Nope~ You can choose to remain with Y2 rolls or go with Y3 rolls. You may NOT change your mind during the class, however! If you start with Y2 rolls, stick with Y2 rolls! BONUS NON-MANDATORY TASK When you return to the class area, Radha frowns at you thoughtfully. "You do not look as if you are comfortable with your mount. Have you ridden before?" She listens to your answer, considering before slowly nodding. "Even if you are familiar, practice would not be amiss. And if you are not... then now is a good time to learn." Radha demonstrates the basics, borrowing your mount and showing you how to make it walk forward, stop, turn, and run. They are the basic commands, but that is really all you need. And then it becomes your turn. BONUS TASK This is an optional bonus task that will not earn you any horseman points. You need to demonstrate the basics of using a mount. Please do these in a separate thread.Hey! Listen!- Roll 1d4. Even, your mount listens to you. Odd, it does not. Forward:- Roll 1d4. Even, it moves forward. Odd, it does nothing. STOP:- Roll 1d4. Even, it keeps moving. Odd, it stops. Turning:- In order to demonstrate your ability to turn, your mount will need to turn one full circle. Pick even or odd. Try to roll what you called twice in a row. - Upon accomplishing that, call even or odd again. Then roll what you called twice in a row again. Upon completing this bonus RP, you may now RP your mount anywhere within the War clan. Except in RPs that takes place in trees, because that is rather silly and the mounts are too big to fit in the elevators. This isn't Thunder Bluff.

Melas was indeed happy, with his trio of captured students. Levi got a taste of her own medicine, west had his comeuppance and sparrow....... sparrow got what he deserved for being in his line of sight. poor unfortunate souls. Little did he know he himself was falling into the trap of the other hellhounds design. The war cry of giggling excitement didn't catch him by surprise, but the rope that wiggled its way around him effortlessly did and there was no room for a retort. He was captured, and crushed by the impact of said giggly hellhound into the green eared monster. Thackery was like phos. Thack was like a detached phos. Melas was already eyetwitching at the innocent boil that wrapped his arms around his detained body. If his arms were able to move, Melas might have patted the eager canine on the head. or given him a vicious noogie, one or the other. "I did more than see, it, i'm feeling it right now pup." he said half angry. It was hard to stay mad at his own kind. hellhound pride and whatnot.

That morning, Clyde woke up with a surprised yip as his bed suddenly flung him off. He rubbed his pained head in foggy recognition of the instructors of the class. What were they…Oh, was it class time already? Well balls. He stood up with a reluctant yawn before shuffling to get himself ready for the day. Or well, as ready as he can be. His hair was still messy when he got to class. This lesson better be worth it.
So they were getting temporary mounts today? Hmm, interesting. Good thing he still has his lasso. He had been paying attention to the class, but the sudden danger that came from the two instructors froze Clyde to his spot. He couldn’t move and could only stare at the two until the pressure suddenly just left. Clyde let out a slight frown at the demonstration before heading off to find his mount. Maybe he’ll find something good.Quote: As you come across a river, you see a small dragon lurking just beneath the surface. Clyde wasn't sure how to take his luck, but he sneak slightly closer. This flightless dragon was going to be his mount whether it wants to or not.

Thankfully, while Fallow had no idea what bright and early was supposed to mean - because it was not bright or early when he arrived - he was about as much a heavy sleeper as a squirrel on a sugar rush. And there was the slight aversion to sleeping in hammocks for too long too. The Púca yawned again as Faiza and Radha began to speak, smothering it with his palm and trying desperately to listen without dozing where he stood. There was no doubt he wasn't a heavy sleeper, but no one said Fallow was an early riser either. Twitching his tail as the two explained about mounts and Fear and using Fear and --- what were they doing? Fallow's ears quivered towards the sudden change in the air, and nervously, he stomped the ground with his foot, as surely as a horse might paw the ground in anxiety. When it ebbed finally, so did his tension, and it was quickly smothered by nervous excitement at the idea of being let loose in the wilderness today.
The Púca looked around for Mea, wondering if the rabbit was still sleeping, and when he couldn't find her floppy ears anywhere, he gave a sigh. Roping the lasso he'd managed to bring along - partly out of possessiveness and partly out of the idea that they might be lassoing things again and he didn't want to make another one - the Púca trotted after the dispersing group and into the greenery, soon losing sight of any of his other classmates. The jungle was dense and rich with life, and Fallow's attention went each and every way as he delved further and further into the sanctuary of trees. They'd mentioned many mounts in the forests -- he wondered which ones he would find.
He hoped secretly that none of them would try and eat him in the process of - oh, what was it called? - taming them.
Of course, Fallow's wonderment did not last long.
"Augh!"
Something heavy knocked into his feet, and flailing, the Púca went headfirst into the underbrush with a mouth full of ferns. "Excuse me, that was very rude of you to get in my wa - " Fallow began, popping right back up and spitting out the tasteless greenery. A tortoise stared back at him, beady eyes never blinking, mouth chewing slowly at a few leaves. It didn't seem much interested in whatever he had to say, and Fallow's words died in his mouth. The animal was certainly big enough to be a mount, but...
Fallow scowled at the tortoise. "Carry on, sir." He grunted blandly, backpedaling on all fours and scrambling upwards and to his feet.
He was not going to ride a tortoise back to class.
