Ncih laughed as he sat down across from her. The sun was playing through the waterfall and small flecks of light kept appearing and disappearing across the bank they were seat on. The moment would truly have been picturesque if it hadnt been for the fact that all he had was pop-tarts and fruit cocktail.
He pulled a can opener and spoon out of his pack as well, and began to eat when he caught her comment about not eating in days.
"Well thats hardly healthy you know, i mean food is pretty important to like survival and stuff you know."
He was trying to be mockingly sarcastic, but the truth was he hadnt eaten in a few days either but thats because his entire weekend had been soaked in alchohol, and he'd been hungover since.
He eyed the bottle of Dr. Pepper, and wondered to himself how to deal with the situation. If this had happened an hour ago, he would have just drank from it and offered it to her, not worrying about social implications, but after what happened earlier, he hadnt moved closer than three feat to her, and he wondered if this too would be crossing the line.
He resolved to just drink the syru from his canned fruit and be happy with it, besides the way she was eating those pop-tarts she would probably be 750 ml of pop thirsty after.
He finished his fruit cocktail and laid flat on his back for a moment staring upward. He snapped a picture of the sun shining through the canopy of trees and smiled, that was a decent picture, but he couldnt help feeling tense around Emily.
An hour ago he had been certain he had made a really cool new friend, but now he couldnthelp but wonder if she was just humopuring him so he could take her back to school where she would pretend none of this had happened.

She had just finished her second poptart when he commented about not eating being very unhealthy.
"I have anemia, and I really haven't had much of an appetite. When I do eat, it's very little and I normally throw up after. Its very unusual, the throwing up, my doctor says, but its not like I do it purposely. Nothing just stays down," she shrugged and smiled at him.
Emily could tell he was tense, and she didn't like that. Being tense never made anything better, just worse. She crawled next to him, about a foot way, and laid on her side facing him, propping her head up on her hand. She smiled at him, hoping this was alright. Following where his eyes went, she looked up to the sky. Something just comprehended.
"If you like photography so much, why are you so far behind?"
She looked back to him and smiled warmly. Emily felt at ease with him now, all past talk out of her mind. Well, not all. Her mind still lingered on the conversation about being nude, and she laughed in her head. {I'm glad the limp is better. what'd you do? if you know you hurt yourself pretty badly, why haven't you seen a doctor?}

Nich felt her come closer, it seemed odd to him, but he figured he would just let things go on her terms from then on. He knew that he wanted to joke with her, and maybe even playfully push her a little if she made fun of him, but this kind of thing was impossible. This is exactly the reason, he realized, why he liked to deal with his problems immediately, if something is fixed it cant mess up anything else.
He looked sideways at her as the birds chirped softly from the trees. She had an incredible smile, it would have made him warm inside like hearing the grateful dead or eating sunflower seeds, but he knew how much pain she had buried under that smile, and that made it so he couldnt really enjoy it. It seemed odd to him again that he was enjoying someone elses happiness, but it seemed obvious at the same time that was just normal behavior. The fact was that no one bothered to realy think about it.
"Well the thing is, i dont really like photogaphy. its wierd but i never look back at the pictures ive taken. You see what i really enjoy is discovery and learning and having new experiences. With photography, I can catpure those moments for other people. Its like the exact opposite of most teenage girls. Somepeople have this need to catalogue everything I just live it and remeber. Im probably behind beside i partyalot, and sit on this mountain. That is similiarly not to mention that photography could net me a lucritive career so i can travel more."
He tried to smile at her, but anyone who wasnt blind could have told it was forced. he was so bothered by her troubles that his life being carefree didnt even enter into his mond.
((Well you see, here in lovely canada we have free healthcare. This does however create the side-effect of making hospitals and doctor's offices obscenely full, and as a result i do not have the time to get my knee checked out. I would either have to sit in th emergency room for 10 hours straight, or make an appointment for like 3 months from now. So ill just let it go, drink lots of green tea, and hope that when i wake up tommorrow its all better.))

Wow. That was a crazy explanation. Photography, for him, was just a safety net. What he loves more is apparently partying, which, who doesn't, anyway? learning, discovery, and just chilling. Which was fine with her, as if it was her life, but she found that interesting. His analogies were quite funny.
When he tried to smile at her, she could tell he just couldn't. It made her sad, and she sighed. This was bothering her all to much, more than the previous conversation on their way to this lovely spot. If he couldn't smile, than why bother? But, she let it go. Not like she had much influence on his life.
"Sounds like you have a pretty productive life there, Nich," she said jokingly, smiling so he could tell.
All she was trying to do was lighten the mood. She hated now that he knew, but it was her fault. This created a hole in their...friendship? She wasn't sure what they were, per se, but she did know they weren't a couple. That thought made her giggle. Quickly, she suppressed it.
"I can't argue with that, though. I myself just live those moments and remember, but I also capture them with my music. All, well, most, of my songs were created through memories from those special and fond moments. Not just mine, though. Alex, Mitch, Jack, Joanna, too..." she smiled. "My band members. So, what else do you do up here, 'sides just chill?"
Emily talked way to much for her own good. You'd think by now that she'd lost her voice, but she hasn't yet. Except after big concerts... those just really destroyed her vocals. Her band didn't have a selected genre - they play all, from bluegrass to jazz to metal. They even learned to pick up various instruments, but Emily only ever bothered with the flute. She was more interested in singing than anything else.
She cleared her throat and smiled at him. {well that just sucks. i hope you get to feelin' better XD}

Plus i get drunk alot and end up hurting it more, but such is the lifestyle of a canadian student))
Nich grimaced, not in a dissatisfied or angry, just in an air of difficulty as if trying to overcome something. He was in fact trying to overcome his urge to yell at this girl. he knew she was thinking about what had happened earlier too, but she was being just so damned cowardly about it really.
he was halfway through indignant words to say when he realized the reason she wasnt facing up to this. It was because this part of her life was really really terrible. Nich thought back and realized that being the way he was he hadnt ever really known fear, but to have something like that hanging over you must feel terrible, but he could only imagine.
He looked over at her when she made the joke about his lifestyle and no smile crossed his lips but an understanding flooded his mind, and perhaps too late he grinned.
"You know its odd, but ive tried to think of a way to really culminate my life, because its pointless to just take tons of pictures, or to even really communicate to others through any medium other than something that could do a perfect job. Its like reading one chapter of abiography."
He looked up at the sky then and really wanted to role onto his side to face her. he was actually in the process of shifting his elbow when he realized that probably wasnt a good idea. He was however determined to act normal. He really liked this girl and he wasnt about to have her hate him for something as stupid as his desire to chop through life instead of going with the flow.
"I know it seems wierd top be pre-occupied with a magnum opus but the way im goin i might make it to like 35 if im lucky, so i dont think thats unreasonable."

Emily laughed at everything he had to say. Nich was pretty damn comical.
"You are just to damn funny for your own good, Nich," she smiled at him.
His grin had made her feel much, much better. At least he was able to somewhat smile. Grins, to her, weren't true smiles. They were just a form of expressing your innermost thoughts.
"I have to admit, your usage of vocabulary is much better than mine. It's also quite admirable. I wonder if you've ever just read through a good portion of the dictionary, or just learned these words off the street. In which case, you were in a pretty damn good neighborhood."
Her grin was so big you couldn't miss it. He was just a ton of fun, and nothing could ruin her mood right now. Well, unless you thought outside the box and had a paranoid view on life. Like, if someone were to start trying to kill them, yes, that would ruin her mood. But nothing he could say and tone he used, would not break her. {well, that's good. i'm glad you learned how to take care of yourself. not alot of guys i know could say that. though, one can admit he knows how to make waffles XD}

Nich could tell Emily flt better by then. It was obvious the way she was looking at him. This was not to mention her flirty mood from earlier had returned. He liked this part of her, it was light but it was the kind that he could just hang out with. Although thinking about it that way nich didnt really mind being around her when she had grown serious and somber either.
Thinking back now his only thoughts had in fact been to help her cheer up, but then it wasnt like it was for his sake, he just figured at the time emily deserved to be happier, his happiness had stayed a constant.
He was busy thinking about if he liked the idea of being there for someone when emily's comments fell on his ears.
"Well you know, i was a poet for a phase. It was a strange time just like being a folk rocker and a hockey player, ive really been around the bend, and ive taken the best skills from all the experiences ive had. hence the complex latin terms or eloctuion. Emily thought about that for a moment. It did make sense... she had to grow a better vocabulary for her music, but it couldn't be extraordinaire. If so, people that actually cared about the meaning of the lyrics would be like, what the hell? Yes, it would help them, but than others that paid attention to the lyrics but didn't care to much of the meaning, would as well be confused. So, she just stayed in the safe zone. But poetry on the other hand... it was all about the words. I guess him once being a poet made sense. Earlier, she had even given thought to him being a poet, but she didn't think he was that kind of guy. Coming to this realization of him actually have been a poet made her laugh.
"I think I underestimated you!" she said in a light and playful tone, smiling.
Coming to a hault of words, very unusual, she fell silent. Lying here with Nich up on this mountain was very relaxing. Not to much the quiet flow of the waterfall and the silent sound of the water hitting the stream as it all flowed together. Being a musician really opened up her ears and mind to all sounds, and they were pretty amplified to her. She sighed, soaking up the loud silence of this scene, and closed her eyes.
"It's so peaceful here..." she said in a soft, quiet tone. Almost a murmur, but not quite.

Nich laughed, he risked sounding egotistical when people said things like that, but he'd gotten good at being humble when he really didnt need to be.
"Well, thats true if you limited my lifestyle at all, i find it best to embrace every oppurtunity ever, and consequently ive done alot of stuff. Thats why i ahve favortie religions, not because i beleive them, but becausee they were the most fun to practice."
Nich heard silence and understood it when she spoke again. He had always felt that his presence here upset some quintessential balance. Pecae was the thing that he hadnt mastered. He thought back to trying to do yoga under the waterfall, and realizing that he just fell over alot.
He thought back to how good his clothes had smelt after he had washed them in this stream and his eyes suddenly shot open.
He had been hitting on this girl all morning and the last time hed showered was saturday night to try and sober up. He sniffed his armpit a little and laughed openly.
"Man... i smell awful, its a good thing your not one fo thsoe people who hugs alot, i woulda been screwed."
he stood and dove into the pool. It was only about 5 feet at the center so his head stuck out comfortably. He took his clothes off down to his skivvies and threw them against the rocks.
"its wierd but last time i tried this it felt really primal and cool, and i smellef like a real mountain stream not like those fake shampoos."

When he spoke about smelling awful, she laughed. Its not like that kind of thing really bothered her, but it seemed he felt the need to jumo right into that stream. Nich grinned and walked up a few feet silently until the water level was just above his waist. He liked the way she smiled and it could only seem to bring out the mischeif in him.
That was in fact the moment he chose to violently run his hand over the top of the water and splash emily within inexhorable amount of water.
"Looks like you have to now..."
He fell backwards and let himself be submerged. Under the water he felt distant somehow from everything. It was a split second where he could be alone completely cut off, almost as if he were on a different plane of existance.
He realized that he couldnt really hide from himself here alone under the water, but instead of swimming to the surface where he could go on living gayly, he faced the music. He had begun to really like this girl it seemed. It was odd because he felt like he'd seen her around alot, but never talked to her. She'd never given him the butterflies, but when he returned to the surface and looked at her, ice filled his stomach.... There was no more fooling himself.
"Dont worry about your clothes, and dont worry about the water, its ice cold, but no fish or anything live up here... at least that is to say i havent been bitten yet."
Her smile seemed to be intoxicating because son he found himself smiling again. He thought then of how he must look because he wasnt ginning at something particularly funny or enjoyable, but it was the kind of smile you wore when you were in a good mood. The kind that just stayed on your face even though there was nothing abvious to smile about.

Emily gasped in surprise when he splashed her with ice cold water, though she quickly laughed afterwards. He was right... Now she had to go in there. Or else, it just wouldn't be worth being wet.
She laughed at his comment about not having been bitten yet. There'd better not be anything in there... There was alot she could handle, but one thing she could not handle were fish. For some reason she wasn't quite familiar with yet, was that they scared her. But, she could handle creepy crawlies... She was one strange girl.
She sighed when he smiled. Bout time!
"Now theres that smile I love," she told him, wearing her own signature smile.
Slowly, she stood up and took off her shirt, revealing her fit body and black lacy bra. There was no point in wearing clothes, besides her undergarments, when swimming. After she dropped that beside her, she undid her belt and took off her pants, all the while looking at Nich. She thought she was going overboard with the whole flirting thing, but there was no stopping now. Once all that was left on her was her black lacy bra and panties to match, she jumped in right next to him, causing a big splash to cover him. After a moment of being submerged in the water, she came up and smiled at him.
