"Safe?" Varon held his own cup in front of him, taking a large gulp of the refreshment. Setting his cup down and letting out a satisfactory sigh, his frame remained stiff and his eyes twitched for a few moments from the sheer sensory overload. The drink, you could say, was somewhat strong in its flavor: its sourness gripping the tongue before giving way to a delicately sweet aftertaste. The fizz seemed like a nice addition to the effect and the ice cooled down the refreshment to a delightful temperature without diluting the flavor.

"Note to the both of us: never drink too much in one gulp... unless you want your taste buds to get high." He added right after his eyes stopped twitching and laughed heartily afterwards, "It's about as safe as any other soda... which isn't really all that so. We're still young and healthy, however... our bodies can handle the waste, for now."

He took another drink from the cup, this time in more moderate amounts to savor every last drop. He'd begun to notice an aversion to the goblet in her hand, and laughed lightly, "Oh, my apologies! Did I go overboard with the decorations? Let us remedy the situation, then!" The surface of the globlet seemed to liquify and morph, the rubies condensing like a drop of water, growing bigger and allowing dimples to form in its surface as its color hardened to an opaque glass. The other decorations shifted as well, settling into an image of an eerie graveyard during a lunar eclipse, a young girl standing in front of a tombstone, peering innocently at the bright red orb.

Varon shrugged at her remark, "Yeah, it has its perks... for one thing, you never get bored. Either the work itself or the company keeps you going in the darkest moments. But it's very hard work, though... I don't believe I had any other place demand all that dedication to research. But they give you breaks and all... it doesn't matter if you spend most of your time hanging upside-down from the ramparts, juggling, as long as the work is done within a reasonable amount of time and the findings are adequately reported."

Lancaster smiled still looking to Phae. "Ah I assure you my lady I am stronger than I look." He watched her trying to leave again and he seemed to blank out once more as he held her. This time the lights flashed again and stayed on. His eyes turned a bright golden yellow.

Phae stared at his eyes in confusion. What was happening? She kind of let herself grow limp in his arms and she watched as his once brilliant blue eyes now turn a shining gold. Was she doing that? She doubted it. She didn't think she'd be changing eye colors. Her face was close to his and she noticed that his hair seemed to be growing, though the change was very minute. "Being strong has nothing to do with it." she continued to stare.

Evie felt her nose lightly wrinkle at the taste of the drink, but it was oddly enjoyable at the same time. She'd never had anything like it, but she knew it must be okay, because he gulped down a whole mouthful at once. She refrained from doing so herself, and gave a light nod at his warning not to. "Okay..." she replied quietly, her tone still uncertain and a little too quiet, almost lost beneath the noise of the party.

She took another cautious sip, then paused once more when he laughed and spoke of the cup. "Oh, it's..." She trailed off to blankly stare. It was changing, right there in her hand. He'd said he was a sorcerer? It was amazing, but... a little scary at the same time. Again, he picked a spooky image. Instead of red eyes staring at her, there was a red orb with a little girl gazing toward it. Her fingers shifted and moved about the glass, trying to find a better hold, and eventually fell still once more.

Slowly, Evie managed to draw her attention back to the male, peering up at him as his height allowed him to tower quite easily over her. She took another absent sip as she listened, then paused to ponder his words. "What... are you researching?" she asked curiously. It must be something important if the school was employing him.

Varon shifted his gaze upwards, pensively as he recalled his latest projects, "Oh, it's usually medical stuff. The institution gets a lot of donated bodies and we use them to study things like cancer, disease and whatnot. My partner reanimates the cells and gets the body working and we look at certain details, patterns... trying to get to know how and where certain tumors spread; same thing with diseases. I like to experiment on modifying certain things, simulate treatments... anything that crosses my mind, really, and see what happens."

He took another drink, swirling the solution in his mouth before swallowing. There was always more research going on- you'd be surprised how they could multitask. There were always thoughts about the ethical dillemas on using the human remains in such a manner, but it wasn't really something he was bothered with. They had been donated, after all, "It's really a lot easier when you don't have to worry about the ethical repercussions- especially the one that accompanies tests on live subjects." Varon remembered groups protesting his research on several occasions, which made him mentally smile to himself, "There are always protesters and the like, but nothing major. The bodies were donated, so there's not really much to argue about. Now..."

Varon changed his posture, leaning a bit more towards Evie as the conversation took a 180-degree turn, "How about you? You seem somewhat mesmerized by my theatrics which tells me you're new. This is somewhat mediocre stuff, compared to what magic can do, even at the levels of a high education. Old students wouldn't be so easily impressed... now, if I may ask without appearing intrusive, what's your story?"

Evie listened intently, her eyes widening a little in alarm at certain parts, such as the idea of reanimating the bodies, and experimenting upon them in the first place. She felt herself shudder, thinking of her own... ability, and turned her head away to stare down into her glass while listening. She was gripping it with two hands now, holding it lightly in front of her face as if to help herself hide a little. "L-live?" she choked out suddenly, staring up at him in dismay. Live subject? Live human subjects? How could he possibly..? Well, at least he'd moved on to mostly dead ones now..? Other than the reanimating...

She jumped, again, when he suddenly loomed closer, her widened eyes staring up at him, one masked by a wave of hair that covered half her face. "I-I um..." she stammered, gaze locked fearfully with his, before she swallowed hard and glanced away, staring to the side and at the floor. "I a-am a new student, b-but I.. I d-don't have much of a st-story..." That was entirely untrue. He could learn her story if he turned on a computer and searched for a video, but she hoped he'd be too busy with research to bother looking. Besides, you'd have to know what to search for, and she doubted people who hadn't already seen would think to try.

"I j-just have a... a slight fl-flaw, and I d-don't wanna talk about it..." she finished lamely, eyes still locked upon the flooring.

Rain smiles at Austin's answer, she remembered that she had alot of family that lived there but had never been there herself. She wishes that she had gone there before, and plans to visit once she gets out of Ria high.

"Your answer isn't unimpressive, Texas sounds awesome" Rain closes her mouth quickly realizing that he hadn't said it aloud "Im sorry, my power's are..." she stops talking and try's to get rid of all the voices that were in her head, wishing that she wasn't being such and idiot.

"im normally really good at keeping from hearing other peoples thoughts" she says slowly thinking out her words. "but sometimes thoughts just appear from no where" She shuts her mouth and looks up at Austin with an apologetic look on her face. She really hated when her powers got the best of her, And she hoped that she wasn't being too much of a dork.

Cat nodded understandingly at Ryu, knowing exactly how Phae felt because she felt it through her own sister.

Speaking of which, she looked at her sister. "That man is like us." Cam said simply, looking at Lancaster intently. Cam had a sense for certain things. "He's phasing." she said again.

Xavoko looked to Ryu and nodded a no. "Actually, I've been here for about two semesters now. But this is one of my partially off semesters. I go by Xavos usually, and my hair has a tendency to change." he noted. He seemed to have a bit of a British accent.

He had his pair pulled back in a gentleman's ponytail, which many people usually wore back in the late 1800s. This made the silver streaks ever more brilliant, which only brought out his deep, emerald green eyes.

"But what about yourself? I haven't seen you around the school either. But then again, this is a large school." he asked Ryu the same question. Xavos' long tail swished back and forth slowly behind him.

Varon stretched his hands outward somewhat hastily, rushed to intercept a misunderstanding before it took root, "Noo, no, no... that practice had been abolished even before I was aware I could do anything." He stopped for a few moments to regain his composure. The look in her face and bewildered reaction somewhat hinted that she thought he'd been a practicioner.

Varon's forehead wrinkled as he'd close his eyes down hard, forces clashing inside his skull. A low, harsh and frightening voice echoing in his mind, 'You may be innocent of that, but remember what you really are... or more precisely, what I truly am.' It was as if he had no choice but to submit to this will. He managed to recover in a few seconds, just after she told him it wasn't a subject she wished to share, "Oh, my apologies... I did not wish to seem intrusive. If that's not something you want to speak of, then by all means. But take in mind that after attending institutions like these... you could say I've seen among the strangest things you can imagine."

His tone shifted a bit towards the more knowledgeable and philosophical as he continued to speak, addressing the thoughts that seemed to have been his own a long time ago, "Do not think of them as flaws, but extentions. I can't say I know what you're going through, since each case is a very unique experience, but you should come to terms with who you are. It'll save you from a lot of misery in the long-run and lead you to find out its true nature."

"O-oh, I'm sorry if I.. offended you..." Evie stammered, guilt-faced now as she stared at the cup she was still grasping on both hands, still hiding behind it and making herself appear even smaller than she already was. Why had she even come..? She didn't know how to talk to people. This was her chance at a friend, a creepy friend, but a friend nonetheless. She didn't want to make herself out as a rude, insensitive person. She wasn't! ...most of the time.

Suppressing a sigh, she instead returned her attention to him, peering upwards as he simply brushed off his question, much to her relief. She hated when people pried into her matters.

"I... I'm sure it'll get out eventually..." she murmured, head bowing again, and tone suddenly turned despairing. "But I'd like to p-put that day off for as long as I can. I don't... know if I c-can come to terms with it..." Of course, she was being really vague, but she didn't want to go into details. It wasn't really any of his concern, unless it happened to trigger around him. Though, it was difficult to spark the change, and transpired through means that didn't just happen every day. So, she hoped it really would be a long while before he, or anyone else, found out about her ability. God, she wished she could stop stammering. Her fingers had even tightened around her glass, as if trying to keep from trembling. It clearly was not a desired topic.

Lancaster continued to stared blankly for quite sometime but his grip was still held tight on Phae, just enough to keep her close. Suddenly he blinked, once twice, three times.

He made a small scowl exposing his teeth but something was strange, the canines, had they grown? Yes there was quite a noticeable change in the length of his teeth. That however was not the only thing that had changed, his hair, it was much longer now and, hand it grown darker? Yes it had turned black, so black it was blueish.

This new Lancaster blinked several more times before looking at Phae. What the? He held his head, letting go of Phae. Ah man what the heck... He began looking around then down at himself. The heck is this? Where the heck am I? He looked back up to Phae again with the same scowled look on his face nearly growling. Who are ya?

Ryu studied Xavoko for a minute and was about to ask him another question when he suddenly heard Phae scream out very loudly.

"What the hell?!" she was angry. She was a bit frightening when she was angry. "How the hell are you?!" she screamed, shoving the man back from her. It was definitely a different man. This had dark hair, Ryu was too far away to be able to tell what color eyes he had.

Phae's mouth had fallen open. She was staring at Lancaster, who was clearly not Lancaster anymore. "Great. Just great!" She screamed.

Ryu looked to the two girls and Xavoko and bowed his head. "Forgive me. Something is going on. I need to see what is happening." He headed over to where Phae was currently freaking out at this new man, whoever he was.

"Phae...are you okay?" He asked her with caution.

"Ryu!" Phae turned to him and went off. "God! I can't...I need to go." She turned and headed out the door. Ryu followed behind her.

Austin blushed for a moment when his thoughts came out of Rain's mouth.
When she explained what had happened, Austin understood immediately. In his state of relaxation, he'd lowered his guard.
" I see. I bet that comes in handy every now and then, doesn't it?"
At one point in time, Austin had enough mental power to convey short thoughts himself; but with his...deplorable, let's say, habits, his processing power had lowered incrementally since he was 16. Eventually, the ability disappeared completely, and to make up for it, Austin decided to study body language rather than focus on reading thoughts.

Varon shook his head slowly but surely, "No, not at all... it was a natural reaction. I wouldn't blame you for connecting the dots in such a manner- I should have been more detailed." Varon laughed lightly, he found her reactions to be somewhat charming- like an infant stumbling through the entire backyard, trying to walk for the first time.

As she bowed her head in submission, Varon extended his hand and grasped her by the chin, tilting her head upwards. He met her gaze with a stern look and spoke in a matching tone, "Don't depreciate yourself or look upon your situation as hopeless. You can, and you will come to terms with who you are as a whole."

He withdrew his hand before speaking, his gaze and posture like an older man retelling a crucial tale to his apprentice, "Imagine you're a young child- brilliant and intellectually gifted. Your status in school can only be described as utter isolation, but you get by... at least you had a home and a future to look upon. Suddenly, everything changes... during a confrontation with a group of bullies, you're beaten to a pulp and rise defiantly against their oppression for the first time. The leader falls dead- just like that. No squirming, not a yelp or a single gasp for help. His body ceases to function. His companions are struck by a mysterious plague and are quickly found bed-ridden for months."

Varon cleared his throat before continuing, letting the slight pause sink in, "Rumors spread about- the cursed child, held close against death's very breast and protected jealously. Soon, in an attempt to bury a small bird killed by a larger one, you see that it comes to life in your very hands. It would have been miraculous, if the beast wasn't just a moving corpse. In less than a week, you'd have a small throng of decaying critters following your every move. Your family throws you out in fear, the entire community banishes you while certain groups hunts you down. You are utterly alone; without the slightest foreign mouth to give you sweet solace, or the company upon which to cling to for support while you sob your little eyes away. Nothing but corpses in your stead and an abandoned road before you, for all of its inhabitants fled from news of your presence."

Varon's features switched to a calm expression his voice drawing a softer tone, "Yet you still find a way. You come to terms with who you are, and what you're capable of. You learn more about yourself, and how to control yourself. You carve a niche in the very civilization that threw you out and make a new name for yourself." He looked back at her and smiled, "If my dearest friend could accomplish this, I can assure you..." He grabbed her chin supportingly before adding, "You'll pass with flying colors."

As his fingers found her chin, Evie's head lifted easily, her eyes wide again as she stared up in surprise. Her cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink. Her lips parted as if to speak, to question what he was doing, and then pressed back together again as he began instead. Would she really..? She wanted to protest, to tell him she really couldn't, but his story continued, his change in demeanor keeping her instantly silent.

As his tale began, she stood silent, solemnly peering up at him, until he reached the first death. Once again, she actually jolted, body starting in alarm at the unexpected twist. Her expression looked briefly horrified, and that lingered in the wide eye that stared, almost unblinking. The story was hard to take in, her mind not wanting to register and accept it. She couldn't imagine it. No family even? That was all she'd had in the end. They'd stuck by her no matter what, even when she had no one else. But he'd had no one?

Wide eyes finally blinked and slipped into a more natural state as his hand touched her chin again, and she snapped out of the little daze she'd become lost in. She peered up at him quietly, her mind struggling to find something to say. His dearest friend? So it wasn't his own story? But he seemed to know it so well... "...th-thank you..." she spoke finally, her voice almost quieter than a whisper. She felt silly now, after hearing such a story, and even with him holding her chin, she still averted her eyes, staring off to the side.
