Justin grinned. "Well, now is a good time as any," he said with a cocky shrug of his shoulders, "Let's play our ace Slowking. Flamethrower!" He boy smirked, hoping to impress the purple haired girl with his superior choice of attacks. Slowking on the other hand was taking the battle a bit more seriously than his infatuated trainer. He once again planted his feet on the ground, wincing once from the effects of the poison. Luckily this time it wasn't too severe. Concentrating, the gem on his shell glowing a brilliant crimson, he loosed an unnatural pillar of fire from his mouth, taking care to aim at the Ivysaur.

"What the-!!" Mitsu cried, her eyes wide in shock. She'd never encountered a Water Pokemon that had the ability to use Fire attacks before and it definitely threw her for a loop. "Ah! Protect!" she countered a second later, the words fumbling but immediate. The fire managed to nick the Grass type before he could throw up his signature illuminated green barrier. Mitsu breathed, glad to have avoided most of the attack.

Her Ivysaur grunted. He was really beginning to hate these Fire types, sans Sapphire of course. And now it was even worse that this pesky Water type had the power to conjure fire as well. As soon as his barrier vanished he was clobbered head on by a Zen Headbutt that neither he nor Mitsu had heard issued. The attack stung more than usual, taking advantage of his Pyschic weakness.

"Now, Ivy! Leech Seed!" she commanded as the Slowking staggered back a few steps from his attack. His body was quickly covered in small seeds that quickly sprung little green roots and vines that would tangle themselves around and pierce his soft pink flesh. If we can just wait out this battle then the status effects should work their magic.

Justin let out a whistle, once again impressed with her quick reactions. "Sure will be a catch," he said to himself grinning, "Tough and a cutie." He shook his head, throwing another smile her way. "Nice," he complimented, "But Slowking can take more of that. Again! Flamethrower!"

Mitsu, who by now was completely concentrated in the battle has missed his offhanded comments. The gears in her head were churning as she tried to come up with a good counter to that Flamethrower. Stupid, stupid Fire attacks she thought to herself feeling a little irritated.

Oh man, those were both solid hits, Kasiya thought, watching the brave little Charmander slowly get back to her feet, her tiny body trembling all over. I could have Nova obscure everything with a Smokescreen, but then none of the other Pokemon would be able to see, and I bet it probably wouldn't affect these ghost Pokemon at all. The offending Shuppet seemed to be laughing at the small Charmander, and before Kasiya could even issue a command the fire lizard let out an angry growl and dashed forward. She jumped up and brought down a shining claw directly onto the head of the laughing Shuppet; the rage-fueled Dragon Claw landing a solid (and critical) hit which sent the Puppet Pokemon crashing to the ground, defeated. "Awesome, Nova!" Kasiya cheered, thoroughly impressed with the baby Pokemon's incredible skill for battle. I shouldn't be surprised, Kasiya thought with a proud smile. She is Nitro's baby sister, after all. Rosemary, feeling quite inspired by her young teammate's courageous attack jumped forward, glaring up at the remaining Shuppet hovering nearby. It had turned it's sights on the Charmander after having seen her take out it's partner. Giving an eerie cry, the Shuppet had launched a Night Shade at the young Pokemon, and though Rosemary was quick to launch a retaliatory attack of her own, it came too late. The dark energy washed over Nova, draining away the last of her stamina and she toppled forward, and Kasiya called her back quickly. Though she was proud of the Charmander's efforts, she was silently fuming, and wanted nothing more but to see all these ghosts taken down. Rosemary's counterattack, a Magical Leaf, went sailing through the air and homed in on their target, buffeting the Puppet Pokemon with a barrage of glowy green leaves. This Shuppet also fell defeated, leaving the number of remaining Ghost Pokemon at five, equaling the number of healthy Pokemon Kasiya still had out to defend her.

The only ones not having a problem with their ghostly assailants were Leviathan and Digger, as again the Marshtomp began to focus, doing her best to shrug off the Night Shade she'd just been hit with. She growled and pointed her flipper at the offending Shuppet, and again Digger raced forward, jumping up and smashing the now-tangible ghost with a powerful Crush Claw. It too fell in defeat, leaving only the Duskull. The Sandslash crouched low, already awaiting for Leviathan to use her Foresight so that he could dish out some severe hurt to the obnoxious Pokemon as, but while the duo had been dealing with the pair of Shuppet neither of them had noticed when the Duskull had went invisible, and as such were both caught off-guard when the Requiem Pokemon appeared directly in front of Leviathan, chortling wickedly as it reached out and flicked the Marshtomp right between the eyes with his ghostly little arm. The gesture was so unexpected that Levi took a step back, and thus left her easy prey to the sneak-attack Confuse Ray the Duskull then used.

Flash's frightened whimpers caught the attention of his brother, and though Twilight was already dealing with a Duskull of his own as well as a painful burn, the Umbreon wouldn't let the cries of his big brother go unanswered. The Umbreon's golden eyes flashed up to where the Duskull floated, suffering from a burn as well, and for the split second that the Requiem Pokemon's attention was elsewhere the Dark-type rushed off to join his brother. The two Duskull, quite pleased with how their fight was going continued to circle the cowering Jolteon, each raising their arms high as they prepared to unleash a double Night Shade attack on their helpless victim, Twilight arrived right on time, the blue rings on his body glowing brightly as a shimmering green barrier of Protect encompassed the two Pokemon, negating the harmful effects of the Night Shade attacks.

"Oh, splendid," Erika beamed, obviously pleased that Crenu had accepted her offer. In the distance the whistling of a kettle could be heard, and by the time Crenu and Erika had passed through the archway, a few of the girls were already waiting in the large greenhouse, chatting amiable about the battle they'd just witnessed. They were busy setting up the table for afternoon tea, and they stepped over the various Grass-type Pokemon happily wandering around the floor with practiced ease as they set out plates and teacups. When the gym leader entered the room, all the Pokemon stopped what they were doing and rushed over to greet her. Erika laughed and knelt down, doing her best to give attention to each of them. "Hello, everyone, I trust you are all doing well today."

One girl, sporting short, golden-blonde hair that was pulled up into cute pigtails above her ears was pouring hot water into a teapot, which not-surprisingly sported a floral theme. The aroma of the traditional-style green tea soon wafted through the area as the young acolyte placed the teapot on a warming-pad, and turned to Erika, using a hand to steady the young Hoppip that was perched happily up on her shoulder. "Everything is almost ready, Erika," she said.

"Thank you, Mary," Erika replied, standing up, and she turned to Crenu. "Please, make yourself comfortable," she said, gesturing to one of the chairs. There were various types of cookies and treats set out, and as she took her chair, Erika picked up a Staryu-shaped sugar cookie, looking quite realistic with a cherry set as it's core gem, and she nibbled on one of the arms. "Mmm, you should try one, they are quite good."

Riza blinked a few times, and looked away from him, honestly quite surprised that he'd remembered her name. When he mentioned Eris though, she turned back to him, grinning. "Yep, she's all mine," she said, beaming. "Her name's Eris. I got her at the gala last night, from Keegan's mom and dad. Did you know his parents were breeders?" She watched him as he glanced around, not quite sure what it was that he was looking for. Eris squirmed in her arms, interested in the new person in front of them, and she waved her small arms happily. Riza'd been about to head back to her seat, motioning for Jaeshan come with her, but when he mentioned Slateport she stopped, confused. "What? Slateport? No," she answered, shaking her head. Why would she want to go back to that awful place, and so soon? "You must be confused or something. Did you hit your head or something when you were getting on board? This ship is headed for Vermilion City, not Slateport."

The Golbat seemed a little shaken up by Noa's intimidating cry, and this allowed the Staravia to land a solid, clean hit with her quick attack. The big bat screeched and flapped it's wings quickly to try and stay up in the air, and it glared at Noa. The staravia had been coming around for another pass, eager to show the Golbat just how tough she was when it shot forward, avoiding her next attack and coming up behind her. With practiced accuracy the bat's fangs sunk into Noa's body just below her left wing, and the resulting shriek from the Staravia echoed eerily throughout the cavern.

"Hang in there, Noa! Use your double team!" Katie called, holding one arm protectively around the egg. She could feel it wriggling, and she wondered if perhaps it could sense the excitement of the battle? Noa nodded in confirmation and used a burst of speed to put some distance between herself and her opponent. She let out a sharp cry and flapped her wings, and suddenly there were a lot more Staravia for the Golbat to deal with. The large bat definitely seemed confused by this move, and now it's eyes jumped from bird to bird, trying to figure out which one was the real one. "Now's your chance! Slam him with a tackle, Noa!" Katie shouted, feeling the egg wiggle again in response. It was hard for even her to tell which of the birds was her Pokemon, but she was okay with that. If she didn't know, then chances were good that the Golbat didn't know, either.

"Star! Would you watch what you are doing?! You're going to hurt him!" Sam watched Devlin wheel in the sky. He was barely hatched, and he seemed to be getting tired already. He couldn't dodge forever. Star stuck her nose in the air. The little birdbrain was getting all the attention, she needed to knock him down a few pegs. Why, he was just floating up there mocking her! Without thinking, she lept into the air in an attempt to bite Devlin. She didn't get very high, she wasn't meant to be in the air, and Devlin easily flew higher then her reach. He stuck his toungue out at her, though admittedley when she wasn't looking. He didn't like her very much, seeing as she kept trying to hurt him for no reason, but he was still scared of her. Star breathed deeply, and sat down, as if surrendering. She glowed slightly with energy. Sam, still getting used to Star's new moves, didn't recognize what she was doing.

"Devlin, fly up really high, then divebomb Star with Drill Peck!" Devlin crowed, then flew up until he was a speck in the sky. He was getting extremely tired, and wanted to have his last effort be his best. He turned his beak down, and it glowed brightly. He stopped flapping his wings, then brought them in for speed. He came in at an alarming rate, drilling his beak into Star's body. She didn't even flinch, just sat on the ground, the glow around her becoming an intense red. Devlin hopped to his feet, shaking his head. Sam cocked her head to the side, wondering what was with Star. It wasn't like her to hold her energy back. Without warning, Star's eyes flew open, and she lashed out at Devlin with a huge power. Devlin was thrown back, and he lay there, barely conscious. A lightbulb flicked on in Sam's brain. 'Bide...I forgot she could do that. Great...' She quickly searched for Devlin's pokeball to protect him from further harm, but Star beat her to it. As Devlin wearily opened his eyes, he saw Star's grinning face above his. He whimpered, and Star's grin got wider.

" Listen to me carefully," she whispered to him, " I am the leader here. You exist here because I let you. I could always tell Sam to leave you somewhere, but my big heart just won't let me. Now, you are going to be a good servant and do what I say, when I say right?" Devlin, afraid to say what he really thought, nodded. Star's smile turned sweet. " Good little one. Say night night now." She sank her teeth into Devlin's soft belly, and he went limp. Star sat back satisfied, as Sam recalled Devlin in a hurry.

"Star! Are you insane?! Why did you do that?! He's only a baby, you didn't need to be so harsh on him! He's been through alot already!" Star instantly flared up, and sucked in a large breath. The bird had been through alot? What about poor unappreciated Star, who saved Sam's sorry a** in that ocean? She was born fighting for her life and her trainer's life, and had to be nursed back to health by strangers. Not to mention her kidnapping, or any of the battles Sam put her through. She was being merciful on the Murkrow. As Sam gathered her things, and walked back to the pokemon center, she motioned for Star to follow. As Sam turned her back, Star walked the other way.

" You don't think you need me? Well fine, see how long you last without me."

The Hoppip was immediately like a hot air balloon, floating rapidly upwards and avoiding the fireballs. Eztli watched it float for a moment, a nice serene moment, then got back into battle. She debated about her strategy for a moment.

"Xipil use Smog! Make it fill the air above us."

"Mag!" Xipil held back the flames in her body, and instead breathed out a dense purple fog that spread and engulfed the Hoppip. It coughed a few times, but remained as healthy as ever. Eztli clenched her teeth.

"Again!"

"Oh no you don't! Hoppip, Tackle right through it, and land on the little firebreather!" Xipil exhaled the bright purple fog again, as the Hoppip curled in it's leaves and descended. It floated through the fog, a couple wisps sticking to it's skin. It struggled for breath, but it didn't seem to be poisoned. It landed on Xipil's head. Xipil tried to shake it off violently. "Leech Seed, hurry!" The Hoppip planted several seeds with long trailing vines on Xipil's head, but not before Xipil's flame body took effect, burning the Hoppip. Unfortunately, with the Leech Seed replenishing the stamina the Hoppip lost from the burn, it didn't affect much. Luckily, Xipil seemed to be in good shape still, and Eztli couldn't say the same for the Hoppip. The sunlight seemed to be fading fast. "Hurry Hoppip! One more Solarbeam!" The Hoppip launched another rocket of energy before falling to the ground breathing heavily.

"Xipil, jump out of the way! Smokescreen!" Xipil ran hurridley, spewing a jet of black smoke behind her. The beam of light slashed through it effortlessly, but Xipil managed to avoid the worst of it as it exploded at her heels. Xipil regained her breath, as the girl recalled the fallen pokemon. She sighed in defeat, but then brought out her second pokeball.

"It's okay! We can still do this! Let's go!" She threw the pokeball, and out popped the Fairy Pokemon, Snubbull. Eztli shrugged.

"At least it's not a Grass Pokemon." She thought to herself, 'But it is a Normal Type' She smiled sweetly. "Xipil, Mach Punch!" She giggled a little to herself. ' This is almost too easy...I kind of feel sorry for her.

Crenu sat down in the chair, his eyes darting around at all the things going on at once. All the little grass pokemon running around by people's feet, the girls going about their business unhindered by the pokemon like they did this sort of stuff every day. Though in truth, they probably did. He watched as the pokemon greeted Erika, she really had a way with the pokemon of her gym. He eyed the various treats curiously, particularly the Staryu cookie Erika had taken. "...No thank you. I'm not one for sweet things." He looked around, despite the bustling of the pokemon and trainers, Erika still seemed so peaceful. He had to hand it to her, she had definitely mastered the state of neutrality. Crenu straightened up, finding it rather comfortable to be in this setting. He felt compelled to let his youngest pokemon out, releasing Snorunt from her pokeball. She looked around curiously before getting nervous at the presence of all these people and pokemon. She frantically tried to climb Crenu's leg until he picked her up and let her sit on his lap. She seemed to calm down almost instantly, still a little nervous though as she looked around. Crenu took a small chocolate cookie from the table and gave it to her, which seemed to cheer her right up. Snorunt happy munched on the cookie as Crenu unconsciously rubbed the top of her cone shaped head. But even during all that, Crenu's calm stone like expression never changed. "So Erika...forgive my rudeness, but why invite me for tea? Is it customary for you to do so with all of your challengers?"

Kilik was clenching his fist so tight that his knuckles were turning white. He was really starting to get annoyed with all the comments that kid was making. His mind was full of images of him beating the Slowking's trainer to a pulp with his fists, but the images soon disappeared when he noticed the Slowking get hit with a Leech Seed. Kilik was very impressed with Mitsu's tactics. "Sap his health!" he called over to them, loud enough for both to hear. "Take that Slowking down, Mitsu!" he put his arm into the air and waved at her. She was doing well, despite that sudden Flamethrower attack. Something like that wasn't going to slow her down. It was that odd headbutt attack that made Kilik's lip twitch. What an odd move...I've seen Ludicolo do the same thing...

"All you have to do now is step into the light!" Giovanni laughed, his hand in his pocket. His Persian was sitting next to him, the feline's tail swishing back and forth. His cold eyes were fixed on the Pokemon below his helicopter. It was Mewtwo. Slowly, the powerful clone started to move forward into a sphere of light generated by two machines built by Team Rocket.

"You may control my body..." Mewtwo growled, as the sphere was lifted up into the air, "but you will never control my will!"

"We'll see about that," the man's face went stoic as electricity started to pump through Mewtwo's body. The Psychic-type began to scream in pain, throwing his head back and forth in agony. Giovanni began to look around him, and take in the beautiful landscape. "This is a rather charming place. I should have known you'd find a nice place for you and your friends...It's perfect for my new laboratory! Here, I will realize my dream of creating an army of the world's strongest Pokemon! And you will be at it's head, following MY commands!" He laughed, "Together we will rule the Earth!"

"I...will not...submit!!" Mewtwo roared.

"Pain makes the body master of the will!" Giovanni smirked, "Let's see how long this struggle..."

"Mewtwo!" called out a boy. Giovanni was thrown off-guard by the sudden outburst of this new voice.

So off-guard, in fact, that he shot up wide awake. There was no way he was going to get any more sleep that night. He checked his clock - 4:00 AM. In a mere eight hours, those children would be moving almost completely out of his reach. As long as Mai completed her mission, anywhere they went would be within his grasp. Giovanni got out of bed and stretched. His Persian lifted his head up from his bed in the corner and did the same, stretching out on the floor, walking over to his master. Throwing on his robe, Giovanni left his room with his feline companion.

Robin woke up the next morning to the sound of the ships loud horn as it was coming into the harbor. Yawning she nudged Luffy awake before going over to Black*Star and sleepily shaking him awake to. "Come on guys lets get some breakfast before we get off." Well at least she hoped they would, she didn't exactly know if they served food on the boat. Stretching she looked down at her clothes that she was still wearing. It seems like just yesterday that she put this outfit on and it was all ready filthy. Not only was it dirty it was carrying some bad, and some good, memories in it. Maybe she should get a change of clothing? That would actually be nice, meet up with everyone in a new outfit. Robin thought about it as she led both of her sleepy pokemon out of the room and towards where she hoped was food.

It would have to be something flashy, something bold. Robin didn't want to just be there anymore, she wanted to be noticed. Her new confidence and look on life would not let her just go through life without being super about it. Giggling to herself she meandered around the boat until she somehow made it to the mess hall.

Unfortunately for everyone breakfast wasn't that great. There was some oatmeal and oranges and that was about it. Still the food was free so Robin couldn't really complain. Luffy however did not like the lack of meat and Black*Star oddly enough didn't complain at all. Brook and Raz were happy with the oranges though. Raz was more excited by his new Psychic powers and was using them to lift things up and he even threw a few oranges at Luffy who caught them and quickly stuffed them in his mouth.

Mitsu nearly jumped as Kilik cheered her on. She'd completely forgotten that he had been watching the battle. A slight blush crept onto her face as she waved back, smiling at the boy and his Treecko. Now she was the one who felt like she couldn't lose.

Slowking had prepared to use his Flamethrower again only to flinch from both the Leech Seed and the toxins that were invading his blood stream. It was slowing whittling away at his health and this time the poison was a bit more potent than the last. The fire wavered but a successful attack was still launch.

Mitsu bit her lip, running the options through her mind. She really needed to start taking the offensive. That was always her downfall when using Ivy. "Take it! Then counter with a Giga Drain!" she shouted over the roar of the fire.

Ivy winced as the fire burned him harshly. Goddamn he sure hated Fire attacks. He closed his eyes concentrating. Mitsu knew he could survive this attack, he'd be on the brink of a KO, but the small incriments of stamina that flowed back into his body thanks to the Leech Seed was definitely helping. When the fire ceased to burn his bright foliage, he took a deep breath of the burnt air and soot. Snapping his eyes open, Ivy shot his two vines forward, sending them rushing as fast as he could manage. He needed that Giga Drain to land a hit. He really, really, needed it.

Mitsu bit her lower lip, worried as the fire continued to steadily burn her Grass type. The Slowking had only wavered when another bought of poison and the Leech Seed struck him. The toxins were really starting to get strong and painful as the poison sucked away his health. She normally would have gone with either a Protect or a Synthesis. Hopefully this risk wouldn't land her with a loss again.

Kilik clapped. "That's the way! Sometimes you have to take a hit to give a hit! You're doing great!" The boy was cheering for her as best he could. Mitsu was a phenomenal trainer, but she never believed in herself. At least, she never did whenever he could notice. He looked over at the Slowking and shook his head. He'd never seen a poorer excuse for a Water-type. The opponent could've at least evolved him into a Slowbro. At least then he'd stand a chance. Treecko was cheering as well, unsure what for. She supposed that the purple haired girl that her trainer got all gushy for was doing well. She clapped her little hands. This was fun!

I swear, he thought with a growl, if that kid tries anything on her, he'll have to face me next. Then he'll run scared with his tail between his legs. Kilik crossed his arms over his chest, ready for the outcome of the match. He prayed that it would end up with Mitsu winning. She needed it.

Giovanni took note that his scientists had been working tirelessly through the night to build everything to his specifications. However, his project was far from complete. The Tauros they had encased in the tube had long since collapsed from fatigue, literally unable to move. The beast was barely breathing. "Pathetic," Giovanni snapped as he walked passed the Pokemon. He caught glances of the large computer screens as specs of Mewtwo were being run. Old videos they had shot during the short time the Psychic-type was their personal errand boy. He even caught a glimpse of one of the battles in his dream, the battle against that Gary Oak child. Part of him wondered what had become of that trainer, then the other part realized he didn't care. Persian followed closely behind, hissing at a few of the workers that he felt were moving too slow. That certainly made them jump and work faster.

Justin whistled again, incredibly impressed. By now he didn't care too much for the battle, his attention was more focused on the girl across the battle field. Well, he couldn't lose, that wouldn't make him seem tough and appealing. Girls love a strong trainer right? His attention was diverted for a moment as a boy shouted towards his girl. He sent a glare over to Kilik as if saying, "Back off, I saw her first. She's totally mine, I had dibs."

"Slowking, Disable!" he called out to her, after returning his attention to his weakening Pokemon. He didn't need another Giga Drain to land a big hit on his Pokemon if he wanted to win.

Mitsu turned to Kilik, once again not really noticing Justin's rude antics. "Thanks Kilik," she replied softly, not even sure herself if he'd heard her. Facing her newly restored Ivysaur she quickly put one and two together. This was their chance to end the battle. "Disable might not have been the smartest thing to use Justin," she said smiling at the boy. Sure it took away one of Ivy's best offensive attacks but the Toxic and Leech Seed status effects had by now taken their toll and he had plenty of other attacks to use.

"Let's end this with a Razor Leaf!" Mitsu instructed. Ivy grunted, a smirk on his face. He too knew that this was pretty much the end as the Slowking doubled over again from the Toxic. He shook his large bud, casting several sharp leaves into the air. He shot them forward at a high velocity and they sliced the Slowking who tumbled over, finished.

Justin smiled, though it was not as bright as his previous ones. He recalled his fallen Pokemon as Mitsu recalled her Ivysaur. She promised him a strawberry ice cream cone for that amazing battle. He sauntered over to her giving her another smile. "Nice battle. Your Ivysaur was way tough," he said holding a hand out to her.

Mitsu accepted to give the boy a handshake but before she could protest he'd pulled her into his arms, placing one of them behind her back so she couldn't quite move. "H-hey!" Mitsu called, struggling to push herself back as he leaned in, lips pursed.

Kilik was proud of her victory, but that elation was soon dropped the moment he saw him put his hands on her. "Treecko," he said, taking the gecko off of his shoulder, "Stay put. You can come over when I motion for you to, okay?" He patted the Pokemon on the head and ran over to Mitsu, wrapping his arms around Justin's waist, pulling him off her all while throwing him onto the ground. The boy looked over at Mitsu and smiled. "He didn't manage to kiss you, did he?" He then looked down at Justin.

"Look kid, I don't know who you are, but I know a thing or two about perverted scum like yourself." The image of Mazarin popped into his mind, "And I don't take kindly to actions like that, especially when they're directed at my girlfriend." He jabbed a thumb at himself to emphasize his point. Waving over at Treecko, the gecko ran over on all fours to cover more ground. She scampered up to his shoulder and glared at the boy on the ground. Kilik sure didn't like him at all not one bit! He brushed his thumb over his nose and bent over, grabbing Justin by the collar, lifting him up into the air. He suddenly felt a lot like Giovanni, but at this point, he didn't care. Kilik also just realized that he was prone to extreme bursts of emotion.

"Listen," he growled, "You're going to battle me and I'm so certain that I'll beat you, I'm going to put my Electabuzz on the line. He's my prize Pokemon," the boy kissed the Pokeball, "And if you lose, you won't lose a Pokemon. You just high tail it out of here. I don't care if you're going to Sinnoh, I don't want to see your face on that boat. Understand?" Throwing him away, Kilik took Cable's Pokeball off of his belt and tossed it. Treecko was amazed. Her master was so cool! She blushed madly. He's so big and tough! Even tough enough to risk her new yellow friend over there! Cable appeared on the grass, a little tired. But once he saw the stern look on Kilik's face, he knew what was going on. Electricity surged through his body and sent sparks flying. "ELEBUUUUU!" he cried out.

"Ready, dirtbag?" Kilik snapped.

He'd only been vaguely aware of someone poking and prodding him, and Keegan had been in the midst of finding his way back to consciousness when he the feeling of ten-thousand volts flowing through his body literally jolted him awake. He opened his eyes and pushed himself up onto his knees, his arms and legs all twitching uncontrollably while the lingering static fizzled out into the ground. "What the HELL!" he grumbled, looking around for whatever it was that had zapped him, his gaze coming to rest on the small, familiar Raichu. Wait a minute, isn't that...? "Shocker?" he asked, leaning forward to get a better look at the mouse. Yeah, he was sure it was her, judging by the way she was looking at him. "What are you doing out here all by yourself? And where's Kasiya?" he asked, after another quick glance around showed no trace of the mouse's blonde-haired trainer. Just what is going on here? he wondered, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger, as Shocker's magnificent wake-up call had only added to the headache that was starting to pound in his head, thanks to his earlier actions. How long had he been passed out there, anyway? His clothes were soaked from the dew on the grass and he didn't even know where he was. It took some effort, but he managed to get to his feet, finding that his sense of balance still seemed to be AWOL. "Well... let's go back to the Pokemon Center, wherever that is, and find your trainer, all right?" he said, steadying himself as he took another good look at the Raichu. He could see now that she looked quite scared, though he had no idea as to why; Shocker was one of the toughest Pokemon he knew, and the last time he checked, nothing scared her. "Shocker, what's wrong?"

Marina chose to remained stationed atop the rock she'd previously jumped on while Miharu positioned herself on a dock opposite the quirky, blue-haired girl. Starrie was standing on the wooden planks beside Miharu, it's core gem twinkling brightly in the sunlight. "Whenever you're ready," Miharu called out, still feeling quite confident.

"I'm always ready!" Marina called back, holding up her first Pokeball. "Let's see how your pretty new Starmie fares against my Seel!" An enthusiastic giggle escaped the girl as she threw her Pokeball high into the air. The Sea Lion Pokemon appeared in a flash of light, doing a few flips before it landed in the water with a soft splash. Using this as a signal to start, Starrie dove into the water as well, and though it had no discernible face Miharu could sense that the Starmie was eager to test out it's new form. "Seel, lead off with a Headbutt!" Marina shouted, perhaps louder than necessary. The Sea Lion dove beneath the surface and began to swim forward, moving much quicker than Miharu thought it capable.

"Starrie, dodge it," Miharu said, deciding then that she would be the level-headed one during this battle. Starrie dove underwater as well, and it waited patiently for the Seel to come charging at it. Effortlessly, the Starmie spun out of the way, finding that it too had grown considerably faster now that it had evolved. Starrie's so fast now too, Miharu thought, smiling to herself. This will be easier than I thought it would be!

And then there were four. Kasiya glanced around quickly, trying to figure out what she should have Rosemary do now that she didn't have a target. The girl was still clutching her Charmander's Pokeball tightly in her hands, and when she heard Twilight call out, she pointed over in the direction of the Umbreon and Jolteon. "Rosemary, help them out!" she said, the Bayleef complied, running as fast as her legs could carry her in order to help out her two teammates. Just the Duskull left to deal with now, Kasiya thought, looking over at her Marshtomp and Sandslash, noting that they'd taken down two of their three opponents in as many rounds. Levi sure has gotten strong, the girl thought, unaware that the Marshtomp had just been struck with confusion. Deciding that those two could handle themselves she turned her attention back to her three other Pokemon, trying to remember what Ghost-type Pokemon were weak against. Okay, I know Normal and Fighting-type moves can't touch them, and they're weak to Ghost-type moves and... She squeezed her eyes shut, wracking her brains for the answer. Oh, I remember! They're weak against... Straightening up and clipping Nova's Pokeball onto her belt she looked towards her Umbreon. "Twilight! Use Pursuit on the one closest to you! Flash, Helping Hand, go!" Twilight, quite glad to have finally been issued an order was quick to answer, wincing against the stinging burns on his body as he rushed after the closest Duskull. Flash had gotten back up to his feet, snarling angrily. How dare these sneaky, conniving ghosts make a fool of him! His fur bristled as he concentrated, glowing a brilliant orange. A second later, Twilight began to glow with the same aura, and as the Dark-type jumped up, he felt his strength increase thanks to the borrowed power from his big brother, and as he plowed into the Duskull for a very effective hit, he grinned, starting to like this battling stuff. One of the unburned Duskull screeched painfully from the hit, throwing both it's arms into the air in a very dramatic fashion. Kasiya probably would have giggled at the ghost's antics had she not still been furiously angry with them. "Okay, Rosemary! Hit 'em all with a Razor Leaf!" she shouted, feeling like victory was within her grasp. The Bayleef dashed up between her two teammates and swung her leaf, sending a rather wide and impressive volley of razor-sharp leaves spiraling through the air, striking each of the three Duskull for a rather nice hit. "Great job, Rosemary!" Kasiya cheered, proud of how brave the usually timid Bayleef was acting.

Leviathan, meanwhile, continued to blink and shake her head as the strange colours filled her mind. She slammed her eyes shut, and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes again, everything felt normal, and the Marshtomp smirked and clapped her flippers together. That lame Confuse Ray wasn't gonna work on her! She could see the Duskull out of the corner of her eye, and deciding to take a more offensive role in this battle she wheeled around and blasted the pesky ghost with the most powerful Water Gun she could muster, and when she heard it cry out she smirked again. There, that would show him! However, Leviathan had no idea that she'd just unwittingly attacked her own battling partner, and Digger, who'd been on the wrong end of that Water Gun struggled to get to his feet, soaked head to toe and severely weakened from Levi's strong attack. Why was she attacking him?! Weren't they on the same side?! Digger growled fiercely. He'd known it all along, none of the other Pokemon on Kasiya's team liked him, and now he had proof! Solid, tangible proof! Without hesitation the Sandslash fought back, his claws glowing with a bright, white light as he slammed them both into Leviathan for a solid Brick Break. Levi, still suffering the effects of being confused, felt the full force of Digger's strike and she stumbled back, only just able to keep standing. Wow, she had no idea that the Duskull were capable of such hits! The Marshtomp let out a low growl and crouched down into an offensive position, ready to take this ghostly foe down once and for all. The actual Duskull, having seen just how effective it's Confuse Ray had been could only watch with glee as the two teammates turned on each other. What fun!

Jaeshan smiled at the tiny Cyndaquil, and reached out to give it a gentle pat on the head. He remembered well that when he'd been trying to decide on a Fire-type to add to his party, the choice had inevitably come down to Cyndaquil and Torchic, and even now he couldn't help but wonder how different things would be if he'd chosen Cyndaquil over Torchic. "Actually, yeah, I did know," he nodded, looking back up to Riza again. "I got a Pokemon from them myself not too long ago, and-" he stopped abruptly as Riza's last statement began to sink in. "What?" he asked. "No, that can't be right. I'm supposed to be going to Slateport," he sad, shaking his head. He looked around quickly, tripping over his own backpack and face-planting the floor. "Ow," he mumbled, rolling over onto his back, and slowly sitting up. He could see now that they were indeed moving in the totally wrong direction, and he sighed heavily, looking up at Riza from his place on the floor. "This boat really is going to Vermilion, isn't it?" he asked, a defeated tone in his voice.

Careful not to wrinkle the fabric of her kimono, Erika sat down as well, breaking off a chunk of her cookie and handing it to a young Paras that hadn't left her side. The Mushroom Pokemon took the sugary treat in it's pincers and munched happily, spilling crumbs all over the floor. Erika smiled at the Pokemon and looked up at Crenu as he spoke, waiting until Mary had finished pouring her a cup of tea before she answered.

"I wouldn't call it customary," she replied lightly, folding her hands neatly in her lap as she continued to gaze at the blonde-haired young man. "Though I am a Gym Leader, it does not mean that I am above simple hospitality. Not only that, but I believe that a person's training regime should also include plenty of time for rest, relaxation, and reflection. This is important not only for the Pokemon, but for the trainer, as well in order to keep a state of peak physical, mental and spiritual well-being." She carefully sipped her tea while she watched Crenu and the young Snorunt. It was easy to see that something was troubling the young man, but Erika knew it was not her place to ask. There was a rustling from the flower-covered bushes nearby, and after a moment or two a tall, green Pokemon with large, friendly eyes, a pair of long antennae and a ring of vibrant flower petals around it's neck emerged from her hiding place, an she went right over to Erika and rested her head on the Gym Leader's shoulder. "Good afternoon, Meganium," she said, quite happy to see the Pokemon. "Just where have you been hiding all this time?" Erika asked, gently stroking the side of Meganium's head. "Crenu, this is Meganium. She is one of my oldest and most trusted friends. Meganium, meet Crenu. He will be joining us for tea this afternoon." The Herb Pokemon straightened up and inclined her head respectfully, seemingly having adopted Erika's mannerisms over the years.

When she saw the redhead sit up, Shocker sighed with relief. For a moment there, she'd thought she'd used too much electricity. She nodded eagerly when he said her name, running forward and hugging his leg tightly when he suggested going back to the Pokemon Center to find Kasiya - she'd never heard a better suggestion in her entire lifetime. "Raii! Chuu! Raichuu rai chu!" she cried, tugging on his pantleg. "Chuu!" Which, roughly translated as something like "the crazy b***h is still out there, so let's get the hell out of here!" Keegan seemed different to her somehow though, less focused, even a little wobbly. She looked up at him, her eyes wide with concern. "Raiii!" she cried again, gesturing to anywhere away from there. This could be her only chance for escape for the next who knows how long, yet the redhead just stood there like a bump on a log!

The Raichu had been seriously contemplating shocking him again when she heard footsteps from behind her, and a quick glance over her shoulder would reveal that they were too late as Mai had stepped out her hiding place in the shadows, arms folded across her chest in amusement. Shocker cowered a little, and dashed behind Keegan's legs in a futile attempt to hide herself. Upon seeing the redhead, Mai suppressed a vicious laugh. "Oh, it's only you," she said dismissively, the disgust apparent in her voice. "I thought for sure that after everything that happened yesterday you would have found a nice hole to live in for the rest of your miserable little life. And as for you," she went on, moving across the damp ground with long, even strides until she had a clear view of the Raichu, "just where do you think you're going? Return, now." She held up the mouse's Pokeball, and Shocker could only utter a small squeak before the red beam recalled her. "It's so hard to find good help these days," she said, giving a fake sigh before turning her sights back on the redhead.

Claire sat deep in thought. The blue sky above filled with puffy white clouds. It was an ucharacteristically bright day for the area around Ecruteak city. Kokoro waited patiently for her trainer to come up with their travel plan.

I hoped you would have already thought this through. The fire pokemon said after her patience had finally worn out. “I have. But there is more to it than just going out and seeing what I can find. I think I’m going to need to get some badges… Whoever destroyed my family’s reputation must have some powerful tools at their disposal. I’m going to need to become more powerful for when I confront them.”

Then collecting badges is a logical first step. But what about the rest of your goal? You still don’t even know who is responsible. Kokoro pointed out. “You’re right, I don’t have any clues yet. But I have to start somewhere. Getting stronger is definitely something we can do. Perhaps along the way we’ll be able to find some information along the way. Maybe search the underworld for some hints about why someone would want to raid the Burned Tower.”

It probably has to do with that legendary pokemon that was said to live there. The cyndaquil added. “That is the most logical explanation. So, we’ll look out for information on legendary pokemon and see if we can hear about one that lives in our area.” Claire stood up and put on a smile. “But first we’re going to Violet City to get our first badge.”

With that said, the two continued south along Route 37. The road was pretty desolate, but then again it was only 7 AM. Clair walked calmly with Kokoro on her shoulder. It wasn’t long before more pedestrians began to show up. Some were trainers, some were just your average people on their way to work or school or some other location. Inevitably, another trainer noticed Claire and her Cyndaquil.

“Hey you! Blondie with the Cyndaquil!” the young boy shouted as he ran over from the side of the road. Claire turned her head to see the person. He was rather short and looked like he might only be 12 years old. Wearing a backwards facing baseball cap, shorts, and a t-shirt he looked just like your average Joe. Claire continued walking.

“Hey now, don’t be like that!” He said tagging along. “I didn’t mean to be insulting! I was just wondering if you’d like to battle.” The magic word: Battle. Claire gave him another inspecting glance. From the belt loop, it appeared this kid had only 1 pokemon. “Alright. Well kid, let’s see what you’ve got.” Claire responded as she turned to face him.

“Great! Okay, I choose you, Hoothoot!” The boy said as he ripped his pokeball from his belt and tossed it high into the air. As the light faded, there on the ground sat a very still, very asleep owl pokemon. “Hm…” Claire was beginning to think this kid was a bit too young. The boy quickly moved over to his pokemon and prodded it a few times before it woke up. “There we go! Okay buddy, we have to do some battling now!”

“Well, I’m Claire. Ok, Kokoro, if you’d go down so we can get this started.” The fire-mouse jumped down to the ground. In a moment it had quickly begun a gentle stream of fire from the pores on its back signaling that it was ready to begin their battle. “Nice to meet’cha Claire! I’m Josh. Now, let’s get things underwing! Hoothoot, use Hypnosis!” Suddenly the owl pokemon’s eyes began to glow vibrant red as they emitted small waves of crimson rings toward their target.

“Close your eyes, Kokoro, those waves mean nothing.” Claire directed and Kokoro quickly complied. “Now, we’re going to put this bird out of its misery soon enough. Begin with a Smokescreen.” Cyndaquil nodded and then took in a deep breath as the waves overcame it. They were gentle and soothing, but the Cyndaquil was too focused to let itself fall under their spell. Suddenly it exhaled and the road was covered in a dark black fog as the battle began…
