Yes, I've used a similar typewriter, too... And the first computer I used was an Amstrad, which seems like a typewriter with delusions of grandeur, compared to what we have now xp blaugh

I use to have a Commador 64. It would take like 20 steps just to turn your font purple.

I was late in the game getting my first computer... It was an Apple where the computer and monitor were one piece. The screen was green, I had no way of hooking to the internet, and the best game in the world was Shuffel Puck. I did have a huge printer that was noisier than ever. That would have been around '93 or '94... I still did many of my school (college) papers on it and thought it was so great...

My first computer was a Texas Instruments something-or-other. It was great, because they gave you instructions on how to program in BASIC!

Hahaha. Boy, my sister and I thought were some hot little computer programmers with our big, chunky HGR maps and our little programs that did little more than make the monitor blink.

We learned the Cortez Peters (I think that's his name) method in keyboarding ~ they showed us a video of this guy typing on a manual typewriter doing about 200-300 words per minute... he'd hit the return with one hand and click a little bell placed on the other side ~ it was wild. This was when I returned to college in 90-91... I can't remember what brand of Typewriter I learned on ~ think it was a Smith-Corona. Still have one of the "newer" models ~ which is probably 15 years old.

lol I can just imagine it (the video)... I still have an electric typewriter stuffed under the table - it's a Brother AX-20. I actually had to use it to write an urgent letter a few weeks ago, when my old iBook threw a major hissy fit... That was a weird experience, having to type so carefully, because amending mistakes was a major pain. It still looked pretty pathetic when printed out, but it had to do! xp (All's well that ends well, etc. - I have a shiny new MacBook now! xd )

Lol - I still use one at work when I'm typing up solitary envelopes ~ beats running a single label through the printer ~ and always catches my coworkers off guard.
And yes that video is something else... he zips right through so it's a lot of ding-ding-ding in just a minute... totally blew me outta the water watching it. And no, sadly, I never got beyond 80-something a minute.

I once (eons ago) went on a touch-typing course, where we were taught on manual typewriters. We sat side by side in rows, like battery hens, all typing away at preset drills. The keyboard was quite steep, and it was difficult just to press the keys down, never mind the right ones in the right order lol . Thank goodness for computers... xd You're right about the single label thing for addresses, though, that is generally a nuisance. I usually just run off two copies of a letter and use the traditional (i.e. scissors and sellotape) method of cut-and-paste, if I'm not using a window envelope. xp

At my second job, I do layout and design and I will also use the old fashioned cut & paste method to acheive the look I want.

After high school I went to college for advertising and computer graphics. The computer we learned on had 8 inch floppy discs and we programed tons of information in to the computer to make a simple pie graph... The computer was called a Dikomed (I don't remember the spelling).

Umberella bought me a light table for my personal use back when we were both actually earning money. I love that thing! It's not as big as the huge things we used to lay out the old weekly I worked on, but it's useful for the little pamphlets and puzzles and things I put together for friends and family.

Hey, do you use line tape at all, Jenaya? That stuff makes me love PageMaker all the more.

PS. I type 72wpm. Er... after the errors have been accounted for.

I just do alot of pamphlets and brochures now. Yep, I've used line tape and I just love PageMaker. I will even drag out my drafting tools to acheive my design. When I took an AutoCad refresher course, they had this display case with drafting tools in it and the kids would say "What is that?" - I felt so old.

I type just a little faster than you. smile

Has no clue what my typing speed is... mrgreen

Don't do many brochures, etc, but for the occasional card or whatnot, I turn to good old-fashioned "Publisher" wink

Noticed that too... he is on a random siggie so when you click on him he is actually not what is getting clicked, the random link is what get clicked.

No idea what my typing speed is either.. but I do catch errors most the time, that slows me down... spelling errors are another story.
