Amrbrose's eyes widened over the rim of his glass. "Metasang?" He had heard of the company. Between all of the business talk he had heard in passing over the years in his family, the name was not unfamiliar with him. While he couldn't be asked to give the specifics, he knew that they were large enough to have an impact in the business world.

"You were in line to inherit Metasang?." Ambrose shook his head and took another drink. "I would certainly think, then, that you would be missed.... I mean... between you, DiRossi... it seems to me like Moreau is taking risks." Ambrose suddenly felt rather out of his league. His family was well off, but certainly not that well off. Yachts and beachhomes were one thing - owners of a major corporation and a household name actor was a completely different thing.

Marlow was impressed. He hadn't exactly expected to meet anybody on the island that paid attention to business, let alone recognize his contacts. He was also a bit concerned that he might have been a bit too rash to mention Metasang. The logos of it and all its subsidiaries were displayed prominently on a vast majority of medical equipment in the labs. While that didn't seem to bother Ambrose or Vasile any, there were bound to be others that would not dismiss the connection so easily.

"It would have been a risk if my father and I hadn't signed a contract acknowledging the risk of treatment. There was even a little subsection where I agreed to let them keep my remains for an extensive autopsy if it would help their research. As I said," He downed the rest of his drink, "I was tricked."

"Just like everyone," Vasile said sadly, hopping up to offer another refil to Marlow. "So Feral Labs obviously just told his father that Marlow died during surgery...and that's that. They probably have no reason to suspect fowl play."

Vasile shook his head. "Just like my mysterious helicopter crash. No body, no questions. Cept for that one Papparatzi chick." He frowned further, refreshing the ice in Marlow's glass and then pouring the scotch. "You know you think 50 people is a lot but when you think abuot it.. guess it really isn't. I mean, in the whole population. And some of us, like me and that girl for example, don't even have any clear connections to Feral Labs. Hell, Avery and that big fellow fell off a damn boat. How's that for 'luck'?"

Ambrose nodded, a bitter expression crossing his face as it became pretty apparent that Marlow's disappearence would likely not be investigated despite his ties to the real world.
"That's a real pity, there. It seems like Feral Labs IS covering their bases then. Damn." He sighed, taking another swig and adjusting his position on the stool. "We were all tricked... or just damn unlucky - as Vasile said with Avery.

How did the conversation always find its way back to this? Perhaps it was just some sort of requisite ice-smashing topic when it came to meeting newcomers. It was something to talk about OTHER than the whole losing your humanity depressing talk.

But how to change the conversation without probing into something awkaward or otherwise depressing? "So... ah... Marlow? Other than being prepped to take over a multimillion dollar business... what sorts of things did you do? Motocycle riding seems to have been one of them... anything else?"

"Anything and everything." Marlow answered readily. "Bikes, cars, and boats. Rivers, mountains, and caves. Just so long as it wasn't staying stuck in the same place, the same routine." He took is third drink in hand. "But seeing as how that attitude is what got me here, and how I don't have much choice in the matter, I'm considering slowing down a bit. Maybe retry some of the things I rushed through too fast the first time. For example," he gave the absolute, smallest of winks towards Vasile, the kind that can only be seen if they were already being searched for, "I've recently rediscovered how much I enjoy sushi."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 17, 2006 7:58 pm

Whether he saw the wink or not, Vasile seemed to puff up at the mention of sushi, a sly smile crossing his lips as he perched himself up a barstool, looking more than a little pleased with himself. "Luckily, them seem to spoil up in the food and drink department," he nodded, raising his glass.

Ambrose nodded. "Small favors, at least. There are also some definate attempts at recreation - there's even a new arcade I've been through a couple of times... but it's not going to be anything like racing - cars, boats, or otherwise. At least not unless you count virtually.... then again - and no offense intended - it's not just the island itself that's holding you back in that department." Ambrose flashed a look at the chair Marlow was in.

"I guess you play too hard and eventually it catches up with you..." He commented and finished off his second drink. "At least there will be the memories... you can say you've done things like skydiving... car racing, spelunking.... though I hear that there are some caves here - and there's the mountain. And jungle exploration. Maybe you can get by with some excitement if they can fix your legs."

"I might have to be inventive, but I'm sure I'll manage to find a few thrills." He managed to keep a pleasant face even as he pictured himself exploring a deep underground cave... by crawling across the ceiling on his belly. "But for now, I'm simply enjoying the company."

Vasile could barely keep still in his chair as he bit his tongue about piping up with a few ways to be inventive. Despite their little rendevous on the beach, Vasile was at a complete loss about Marlow's... openess, per se. He didn't want to scare him away.. or make Ambrose uncomfortable. But there was an uncharacteristically happy grin that Vasile just couldn't seem to wipe off his face since Marlow showed up.

"Aye, very good company," he said, glancing between the two of them. He got up again to refill Ambrose's drink. "Most of the islanders I've noticed, are generally okay, though some are prone to have..erm, tempers so I've heard. Thankfully I've yet to gain anyone's ire."

Ambrose nodded. "This is true. I've made some closer friends here than I ever had back 'home.'" He agreed. "Perhaps it's the stressful environment, but people do tend to be friendlier here than most situations. Though you do run into a few of the particularly bad apples. If you see a tiger man, tread carefully. Jamal's anger is easy to rile up, and he has a axe to grind with the staff something fierce. Not that I blame him for being upset - but sometimes his anger is ... misplaced." Ambrose phrased it carefully, reaching for a refill.

"But as far as entertainment... aside from spending time with Angelina.." He gave a small sly grin... "I do fencing - not that there is much in the way for opponents here... I participated in a soccer match the other night, I watch a lot of movies, go for strolls around the beach or through the jungle... and like I mentioned, there's a new arcade and weight room."

Marlow appreciated the warning. While there may have been a time he would have been up to task in the past, he didn't exactly feel up to the task of tangling with a tiger, especially one with the capacity for holding a grudge. "I'll be on my guard. But I think I'll have to sit out on the fencing and soccer. Though, if given the chance and a shiny whistle, I'm sure I could prove to be a fair referee."

Out of the corner of his eye, he found Vasile a delight to watch. Usually the sight of people squirming brought out feelings of pity or unease in him, but tonight the fox's squirming put a little swagger in his slouch. Perhaps it was a little egotistical to assume that Vasile's animated enthusiasm was as a result of him, but he couldn't help but harbor a mote of pride at the possibility.

Vasile nodded. "Referee thats a good idea. And I wanna play soccer next time you guys do that," he said to Ambrose. "I've noticed I'm agile now when I want to be." The fox man nodded proudly. "Seems to really be the only thing I've noticed that's changed about me mentally... that has anything to do with foxes, if you catch me drift," he said pointedly to Ambrose.

He stretched and tossed his head again. "I should host another film festival!"

Ambrose nodded. "I've heard of him injuring a few of the other islanders... including some that called him a friend. And it seems every time I've spoken with him recently I've ended up arguing with him, so I'd give him a wide berth."

He grinned. "And I'm sure we could use a good ref. Especially considering the hot tempers last time. And we'd be glad to have you, Vasile." He nodded, catching his look and remembering the conversation, and then outright chuckled. "Any excuse to show off the movies you were in, Vasile? Or did you have something else in mind?" He elbowed him good-naturedly.

"But as far as get-togethers, they can be enjoyable. Last time - not counting the soccer match, we did a few party games here at the beach bar. I know it's kind of childish, but dammit, it was fun."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 17, 2006 9:27 pm

"It's been a while since I've had 'childish' fun, but I wouldn't pass up any chance to enjoy myself. You'll have to let me know when things come up," he nodded graciously before gesturing over his shoulder to Vasile. "Though this one seems to be doing a fine job of making sure I eat well and meet the most interesting people. The evening has been a pleasure."

"Well if one or two of my movies just happened to slip in there, that wouldn't a crime, would it?" he laughed. "But I think I have rather fine taste in film. Pick a theme, we could so a whole themed party around it. Could be fun!" Vasile closed his eyes gave a proud smile.

Vasile noted Marlow excusing himself and shuffled off to collect the glasses and put them in the sink by the bar. "I do my best," he responded to Marlow, looking a bit flattered. "And yes, I've enjoyed myself. Have you, Ambrose?"

Having cleaned up a bit he stepped back out. "Mind if I walk you back?" he asked quietly to Marlow, attempting to make it sound... nonchalant.
