After dancing for quite a while Seikeida got tired and stopped. Just then something fell out of her hair. She immediatly ran over to tha fallen object. It was a crystal hairpin that was handed down to her by her father. She picked it up and put it back securely in her brown flowing hair.
She hid the fan and walked in the okiya like nothing had happened. She walked over to her smaller bag and put the fan deeply in.
Seikeida sighed and hurried over to the kitchen to get something to quench her thirst. As she drank some leftover tea, several thoughts entered her mind. Are my parents really dead? Am I really going to be a Geisha? How am I supposed to compete with such beautiful women? Is anyone going to help me?...As Seikeida washed the dishes in the sink she went over her unsettled mind.
When Seikeida she was done washing dishes, Seikeida walked over to Yokome and bowed as she asked this shyly, " Yokome-san, because no one has helped me, may you show me where my quarters are located in this okiya?"

((sorry ive been gone so long, finals, then i got sick and now that break is here and its the holidays, i probably wont find much time to spend here! gonk i'll be on regularly as soon as school starts though! 3nodding ))

Okaa-san raised her hand pointing. "Turn left outside my room, take the stairs down into the main hall. Go through the kitchen and you will find the maids quarters. You are dismissed."
Okaa-san sat back with her pipe, remembering days gone by.

Yume wanders into her new okiya looking around.
Okaa-san beckons her into the room and asked Yume to getr her tea from the kitchen.
As Yume stumbles through the busy hallways full of maids and maiko, she found the kitchen and got a cup of tea for Okaa-san.
Okaa-san takes the tea and told Yume to leave.

After receiving an order to clean the pathway from the okiya to the telephone house.
Yume got the broom and walks on the pathway, starting to sweep.
A light breeze gently brushes Yume's hair which was half-up and half-down.
The scent of fresh air was a pleasant reat for Yume, since she mostly smelled dust from cleaning the rooms of the okiya.
She finished sweeping quicker than she thought and was very pleased with herself.

As Yume was practicing her singing, she felt someone's eyes on her. When she turned around, a maiko was looking at her. Yume didn't recognize this maiko since she wasn't wearing any makeup or head ornaments. "I'm sorry...was I disturbing you?" Yume asked. With that, the maiko just walked away...with no expression on her face.
(I didn't want to use anyone's name, just in case I might offend them...)

Yume was eating some rice when a fellow maid said that there was a package for her. When Yume opened it, she saw the most beautiful things ever. She was holding two things, a flower head ornament and a pin with butterflies dangling from it. She thought of how beautiful these objects were. The maid who was watching said, "You should give that to Okaa-san so some of your debt is paid."
Yume thought that the head pieces weren't that valuable so she just kept it, thinking it might be a better use for them later.

When the other maids were busy and no one summoned Yume, she went into the maids quarters and went through her things, she took out the head pieces and stuffed it into her sash.
She went to a storage room where she found a secret. If you push up one of the roof tiles, you can climb your way to the roof. Yume walked as quietly as she could to the place on the roof with the best light and held up the ornaments so she could see them better. They shimmered different colors as the light from the sun hit them. She wondered curiously about these gifts, since the package did not come with a return address or a label saying who it came from.
After some moments of peace and tranquility, she went downstairs again, put the treasures away and decided to clean something.

One day Yume asked a trustworthy maiko to dress the hair ornaments in her hair. While the maiko did, they had another maid take watch for any othe maiko or Okaa-san, for if any of those people saw this, they'd surely take the treasures away.
Since the maiko usually has a hairdresser make their hair, it wasn't the best job, but it was better than the usual mess Yume's hair was. Quickly after she gazed in the mirror, the image that she saw was forever imprinted in her mind, it was the first time she ever saw herself "made up," even if it wasn't the best.
While she was looking at her hair, she heard noises outside in the hall so she took out the hair ornaments and put them away and the maiko excused herself. "Thank you," Yume said. They exchanged goodbyes and with that, the maiko was gone.

Okaa-san beckoned Yume back into her room. She told her to clean the main entrance hall. When Yume did, a strange character visited the okiya. It was a guy, with a hat and he was wearing western clothing.
He went into Okaa-san's room and they were muttering. They said some of the fellow maid's names and hers also. Yume was very nervous about this, she though that maybe she was going to be sold to another okiya. The western man left and Yume was still confused and cleaning the floor.

Hatsumomo left Okaa-san and walked to the maids quarters.When Hatsumomo got there she sat down.Her face had a devilish grin.Hatsumomo whispered to herself "I may be be a maid now,but when I advance on from being a maid, everyone will be begging just to be near me!".Hatsumomo then grabs a small bag that is laying on the ground beside her and pulls out a small mirror and a brush from it.She then looks into the mirror as she brushes her long black hair. "I'll do whatever it takes to advance on from being a maid.......whatever it takes."whispers Hatsumomo. "I mean,it's not like it's the first time I had to do whatever it takes." Hatsumomo then gazes into the mirror,as if in a trance,then in a moment,she's back to herself.Hatsumomo then looks at the other maids."At least I'm the prettiest maid here." Hatsumomo does a devilish grin again and continues to brush her hair.

Yume looks at Hatsumomo with fear...and yet with respect. "When she advances and becomes a geisha, she will be very powerful and do many things to favor herself," she thought. "Hatsumomo, would you like me to brush your hair for you?" Yume didn't want to anger Hatsumomo but become her friend and ally, knowing that Hatsumomo might help her in the future.

While waiting for Hatsumomo to answer, Yume sat there fiddling her thumbs, envious of Hatsumom's beauty. "She is very beautiful," Yume thought, "I'll never be half as beautiful as she is." For you see, Yume is also very humble. Yume sat there with her frizzled hair, tired, yet hopeful dreamer's eyes and dirty outfit.
