"Yes, of course." Damian's eyes were looking anywhere but at her lovely face, What in the world was he doing? He didn't know this woman. He didn't know what she was capable of, didn't know where she was from or what she did besides whoring herself for surviving money. Not only was he taking this tremendous risk at even associating with her, but he was proposing that she be his girlfriend as a job.

It felt like he was almost trying to fill a gap where Lorey should have been.

But he didn't care for this woman. Damian could simply say that she is a... friend. Someone who he trusts and confides in. Someone who is helping him in this time of trials and sadness...

"I live just down the street, less than a block at the most...You wanna come?" She offered, standing again, picking the ice from the table and wiping away the little puddle it left. Her face was hurting a little less, still a bit tender to the touch, but indeed, a dark purple bruise had made its appearance as if mocking her for being who sh was. But she paid no attention to it as she let her dark hair disguise it for a moment.

Damian looked up when her voice interrupted his thoughts. The bruise upon her face was ugly... ugly because it did not belong on such a beautiful face, or any face at all.

"Yes, of course." Realizing that he had just said the same thing twice, he shook his head. The damn hangover still clung to him terribly.

Damian rose from his seat and once more extended his arm to the woman.
"But how are your ribs, and your stomach, Raquel? Can you walk that far?"
Surely he was in no state to just pick her up and carry her, but if push came to shove, he would at least try to help ease that hurt.

She smirked a little shaking her head. "I'm fine..a little sore but nothing a little ale couldn't fix ya know?" She winked, then hesitated before taking his arm. She wasn't used to such courtesy and wasn't sure how to react to it. Thats when she started to rethink all this 'business' they were dealing in. "Are you sure you want me around? I'm not the best for anyone's image..." She noted just stating the obvious in her mind.

Damian escorted her out of the room, making sure that the door was closed behind them before he began speaking once more. On the way out, he had seen Lorey move a bit... whether she was just moving in her sleep or somewhat awake, he couldn't be sure and couldn't risk having her discover this new acquaintance before everything was properly hammered out.

"I am Damian Centurion," he began. "I'm sure you've heard of the Ballroom?" Assuming she had, since it was only about the most well-known, wealthiest establishment for leisure around, he moved on. The elevator arrived, and in they went.

"My father has died, and to make a very long, complicated story short, I have been cheated out of everything that should have been mine. I need to maintain an image so that no one suspects anything dramatic has occurred. The less scandal, the better, for both me and my friends." His steel eyes rested once more upon the bruise blooming upon her cheek before his gaze shifted to her eyes.

"Forgive me for being blunt, but you are in need of a better occupation and I am in want of a beautiful woman to make the world jealous as they always have been."

Her eyes flashed with a dangerous spark. She has always held a prejudiced against rich little boys. This one especially she had heard of. Though up until now she hadn't taken him for the spoiled type. "I used to get my best clients from behind that theater you know..." She said as if oblivious to the rest of his statement. "So many aristocrats looking for relief of their wives and fortune...it was sad really..." She looked down as if casually observing her hands or shoe, not wanting to look up just yet. After thinking a moment, she looked back to him, her eyes still holding that almost deadly glimmer. "So i'm essentially just making you look like you still have the money and fame you were born with no? I'm you're little eye candy to bring about ooh's and ah's from the general public?" She seemed disgusted with the thought, though she couldn't argue too much for she had done worse...much worse.

Oh, how that stung. Damian was not proud of his life. His comfort, yes. The comfort money brought him was like nothing else in the world. Knowing that an accident could occur and that he would have enough for a hospital stay, knowing that if the Ballroom itself burned down to the ground that it could be rebuilt... it was lovely.
The people, though, were not. Raquel deserved to know just what was going on in this world of his, at least before they hit the ground floor.

"Only so that people don't come investigating..." he began. "My friends can't afford it. Their stories are complicated as well. To also make yet another long story short... we are all connected by murders, and it is slowly becoming more apparent that the ones we love in their death are all victims of the same... thing."
It was his turn to shift uncomfortably.

"Besides, I want to help you. Don't ask me why."

At the mention of murder, Raquel's body temperature dropped drastically. Her face grew slightly more pale and she swallowed nervously. "Ah..I see..." She said quietly, her voice taking on a much quieter, nervous touch than her abrasive tone before. she kept her eyes to the floor, her mind reeling with different thoughts. Now more than ever she thought this wasn't a good idea, thinking of her past.

"Raquel?" Damian found himself supporting her just a little bit more than before. The color in her face was nearly gone, and while she looked lovely and pale, it was not good.
"Raquel, I want you to see a doctor in the next few days. Get a check-up, be tested. I will pay for everything I can. But please, if we are to be... partners in this strange facade, I want to take care of you."

That was it, he finally realized. He wanted someone to care for...
Raquel was like a stray cat in the street to be found by someone with love in their heart.
The elevator doors opened to reveal the lobby, but Damian wasn't sure if his new friend could walk it out.

Raquel's eyes grew a bit larger and she looked up at him with pleading eyes, something that was rare for her. "No-no-no..please no...no doctors...no police no anything! please..." She looked up at him slightly terrified for the first time in years. But she quickly regained her control and straightened her back up a bit. "I mean...I'm fine...just tired. There's nothing physically wrong with me..." She added quickly. That much was true, there wasn't anything to her knowledge, physically wrong with her. But she just couldn't take the chance. A doctor would most likely take a blood sample or try to find documentation on her. Documentation that could very easily end her life for good. She just couldn't risk it.

It was so troubling how she reacted to the very word 'doctor.' She was probably wanted by police for prostitution, to be sure. But he had ways around that...

"Please... I know a private doctor. She would come to give us private examinations... I can pay him off to protect your identity." To press the matter, his hand shifted to her elbow in a comforting fashion. "Raquel, you may have a disease and not even know it."

It was then that he noticed they were standing in the elevator with the doors wide open. A few people were staring, waiting for them to get off, which he prompted with a slight little push. It wasn't apparent to him how bad it looked being seen with a beaten woman. Terribly incriminating, to be sure... but he would fight them all. This woman needed help, more than he could ever give, it seemed.

Raquel shook her head. "I've never been sick a day in my life...I promise you, I'm not sick." She stopped and looked him dead in the eye. "I'm....NOT....Sick...Alright?" She said slowly with eyes wide, as if she were explaining it to a child. "Thank you for 'caring' but seriously...I'm fine." She persisted, heading towards the door again.

"Raquel..." Suddenly he found himself trying to keep up with her. Out the doors she went, into the night that had hurt her so much, and Damian was desperately staying in her pace.

"You simply cannot fathom that I actually care about your well-bring, can you?" he snapped at her back. "I bet you're one of those less fortunates who love painting the upper class as some kind of black-hearted bunch... and while you could never be more right, and I myself am not the most pure-hearted person, I do still have one."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 05, 2009 5:24 pm

Raquel snapped for some reason. She came to a skidding stop, turned on her heel and glared at him. "I'll have you know, that I've never come across ONE not ONE person in my entire lifetime who displayed any sign of having a heart period! I would say they don't exist if it weren't for-..." She stopped herself, her face turning all sorts of red from anger, frustration and other emotion's she couldn't place. "You know what? Just forget it. The deal's off! I don't need to ruin my own image by hanging around with some spoiled rich kid who claims to have a heart! I'd rather live in filth than lie to myself everyday, saying I'm something I'm not!" She yelled, getting in his face, her eyes welling up with tears from some buried emotions that these angry accusations were covering for. She shut her eyes tightly, shook her head before turning to run off.

"s**t..."
He would never be anything more than the scum he was born into. It was the very filth that Lorey cleaned everyday and erased from the hearts of those she simply came in contact with...

Without even thinking much on it, Damian took off in hot pursuit.
"Raquel! Raquel, please, let me explain! There's far more to it than... STOP!"

What could he possibly tell her, the truth? It seemed to be the only option available, not that she would even believe him or want to be with him in any way. Still, clinging to this false hope gave him wings, and somehow through his hangover haze he found himself standing in front of her.
"I know I have a heart because just a few hours ago it shattered within me! You chastise me for being born into a station I didn't choose, and yet... I'd give it all away to just be loved! It can't buy me that, it can't buy me Lorey--"

No sooner had the words escaped his lips did he feel utterly ashamed and embarrassed. Telling his heart's deepest workings to her... a woman he didn't know and wanted nothing to do with him. Flustered and gasping, he began to back off.

"I wasn't asking you to be something you are not... I just wanted to do you good. But I can't even do it for myself."
