Ello ello I'm a girl age 21 and I live in Southern Wisconsin. I work at the garden center of my store during the summer otherwise I work in apparel. I love to draw, cook, write, read, garden, sew, and basically do as many crafts with my hands as I can. I do leather work and am working on going to college for massage therapy. I have two cats Bartleby and Pascal and three beta fish. I love sci fi and fantasy and am a current member in the SCA. My current quest is to go to Otakon this year as Talim from Soul Calibur and I have purple hair. ^_^

Cool! I want to go to school for environmental science (either city planning or a park ranger). I started by unfortunately life didn't work out. What does an environmental chemist do? Feel free to post your garden pictures in the Farm/Garden subforum.

Environmental chemists do the analyses that monitor drinking water safety, landfill outflows and conditions, help in spill cleanup and site remediation, and we check for pollution.
Not necessarily a fun thing but it keeps me employed and I feel like I'm doing something worthwhile for the environment most of the time.
Happy to be here and I'll see about pix.

<3 Glad to have you here. I'm just starting to grow my own food too. (Just moved to a place with actual land.) I've heard about druidism, but don't know much - what's it about?

thankyou <3
well, neo-Druidism anyway is mainly just a form of spirituality based on reverence for the earth, with the objective being harmony with nature. It's also considered kind of pagan. They're also into stuff like planting groves smile Check out druidry.org if you're interested smile

Thanks for the info! I've made it a goal this year to read more books. (And none of those frilly grocery store romance ones either.)

Age: 25

Location: The suburbs of Syracuse, New York.

Education: I have an AS in Criminal Justice and a BA in Psychology.

Employment: I worked in education during and after college, but I haven't worked in about two years. My partner works from home.

Pets: Two dogs, two cats, four ferrets, two rabbits, one guinea pig.

Home: I lived in a trailer with no heat or hot water for a year. There was a hole in the wall that stray cats would climb through. It sounds depressing, and it kind of was. But it was also a really awesome and interesting experience. I now live with my partner in a "real" house though. xp

Interests:

-Recycling: We recycle quite a bit. We put one can of actual trash out to the curb every two weeks at the moment. I'd like to get that down even lower if possible. It's difficult to do with all these animals though!

-Composting: We basically have big garbage cans in the basement that are full of worms, dirt, and compost materials. It's not the best set up, but it works for us, and the worms seem ok with it.

-Animal welfare: I don't eat meat. I'd like to cut out dairy, but it's tough! There aren't a whole lot of inexpensive and easily accessible vegan alternatives around here yet.

-The internet: I'm on Gaia a lot. I have a blog at www.peachdough.com where I post funny pictures, animal news, environmental articles, etc. I also play a lot of silly free games.

-Sex ed., pregnancy, fertility, and parenting: I spend most of my Gaia time in the sex ed guilds. I don't have any children of my own yet. I like babies, and I used to work in a daycare. I am very much against people having children before they can take care of them, which is a big part of why I spend so much time teaching teens about birth control.

-WoW: I play WoW a lot too. My main is currently on the Skywall server. I raid at least three nights a week.

-The environment: I try to do my part, but it seems there's always more to learn! I watch Planet Green, I try to spread the word, I use reusable pads, I use natural cleaners, and I don't flush every time I pee. xp

Hey thar everyone.

My name's Seraph, (or at least that's what you can call me)

I'm 21, and I'm currently pursuing getting the prereqs for a dietetics degree. I'm a fairly long ways off... thanks to math. I can't even start taking the university chemistry until I get two years of math done. Thank you stratified schooling systems.

I'm basically a big hippie with a grudge against big corporations. Almost everything I do is done to stick it to one corporation or another. I'm not currently employed... I'd like to say because of this, but it's really just the views that lead me to have a problem with said corporations that lead me to have a problem with being employed by them. There aren't a lot of employment opportunities that don't involve exploitation for minimum wage, or exploitation of others... while being paid minimum wage.

Social justice, gay/bi/lesbian/transexual/gender/cis-sexual/gender issues all very very much interest me. I'm a rabid feminist and believe that patriarchy is the root of ... well. you get my drift on that one. Evil, problems, at any rate it hurts men too and that's the part I want people to see. Pick a social issue and I've got it on my watch list. Unions, homelessness, religion, the environment... lots.

For reasons of sticking it to said corporations and other wholesome reasons, I'm a vegan and as much of a locavore as I can be in my community (which is just crud. My hippie paradise awaits me after my degree.)

I'm blessed in my living area that I actually have curbside compost pick up. It's pretty rad.

Hi guild! Thanks for allowing me in. My name is Aimee. You can call me that or Ella, my online alias. I've been around Gaia for a while but I recently got into gardening and I wanted to find some people who could help or at least be slightly interested when I talk about it. I only see one person I recognize so far but that's ok, meeting new people is fun.

I have some gardening and green friends on Twitter and anyone who is active there can feel free to say hi. I also have a blog about being a newbie gardener. So far nobody from Gaia has looked at it. Maybe now that will change!

I'm a little bit of a hippie since becoming much more cash strapped in the past couple of years. It's so much more rewarding to be less material-oriented. I love growing and making things on my own. It gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I can't wait to learn and share more. User Image

Welcome to the guild Jasmine, LorienLlewellyn, Seraph and Aimee (familiar face!) heart

I did do a brisk look through your blog LorienLlewellyn. Found some interesting stuff that I bookmarked. :3

I'll have to take a look through your blog too Aimee. I just moved to a place big enough for a real garden and I really need to learn lots more.

hiya, i'm kat, or laika. whichever.

thank you for accepting me to the guild, it excites me. (:

i'm 17 and i live in ontario canada.

i have always been very interested in eco-friendly living, but after a recent trip of mine i have been inspired greatly.

on the trip i learned about WWOOFing (world wide opportunities in organic farming, check it out) and i want to try that sometime.

for now i am working on progressing to veganism, raw foodism, thriftiness, i want to start gardening and such.. and yes. (: just general.. self sustaining, environmental awareness, etc.

w00t!

*oh! also, i work at an art gallery, and we have summer camps currently going on which i am helping with, but it is SO TERRIBLE for the environment. D: the facility does not recycle, so me and the one lady take home all the recyling, and it is my own personal project to turn the place around, if only just a start this summer. ):
PostPosted: Thu Jul 16, 2009 3:55 pm

Hi my name is Lauren and I'm turning 19 in September. I have an English Springer named Kovu and a bearded dragon named Zeus.

I live in Maryland in the US and am working on making my life a little more eco-friendly.

I knit(I'm a beginner), and love to draw, read, and would like to start running once it cools down a little.
I'm interested in vegetarian/vegan foods as well as recycling(which I have persuaded my family to start doing) and using reusable shopping bags and all that. I've switched my toothpaste to Toms of Maine, and use soap that doesn't test on animals. I'm looking for a conditioner/shampoo that works for my frizzy/curly hair and is animal friendly.

I'm starting at a community college this fall for Digital Arts and hope to pursue a career in animation. I want to use that to educate kids on ways to help the environment. I'm soo excited!

Thank you for letting me join this guild!

Yo I'm Saira. 16 and a bit years old, going into my senior year of high school (finally). I live in Buffalo, NY but I grew up in Floyd, VA and consider the latter my home more so than the former.
My mother is a total Greenazi. If something can be recycled or composted, no way in hell will it end up in the garbage. When it's warm enough outside, the laundry gets hung up on a clothesline rather than put in the drier. When we go to the grocery, we always bring our own canvas bags. She's an architect, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, a member of Greenpeace, World Wildlife Foundation, et al. and has instilled in me a great sense of Environmentalism from a young age. It's rad.
Apart from recycling and composting and turning off lights, I dig painting, reading, candles, drinking tea, dressing up, wildflowers, singing (poorly), eating Sour Patch Watermelons, sleeping and partying.
