"He has always been one to plan ahead," Vanya nodded. "And he has only the well-being of the children at heart. I know that there are some, perhaps not here, but other places, who work only for the gold. Having him here is a blessing, I truly believe that."
She smiled again. "Most employers would not care about the opinion or lives or their employees."

Seeing how good the business would be, he could see that actually. Though really this just gave him something productive to do, besides kick Scott's a** for not getting the paperwork done that is.
"He likes kids and this sort of things does hit closer to home, especially after the last time I was here and those two extra kids showed up," Donovan murmured.
Which was the other reason why he agreed to it, the more Hunts it was his hope it would give them more breathing space.

Vanya nodded grimly. "The frightening part about it," she murmured, "is that if Aragost were not here, as ... startling as he is ... they would have passed completely unnoticed."
Ulrich nodded his agreement. "It is indeed fortunate that he is with us."
He couldn't help but wonder if Donovan would want to 'catch up' with him as well.

"That is true," Donovan replied.
If what was true after he had asked (questioned) Lin, Miyu and Toshiro was correct it was far too close. Not to mention with the permement children on the ranch he didn't want to happen to them what they had been trying to prevent all this time.

"At any rate," Ulrich said gently, smiling at Vanya, "we should continue if we're going to reach everyone before dinner. I'll be back later for a full report."
Vanya nodded, smiling back. "Yes, I should get back to work," she replied easily. She bowed her head at Donovan. "Until next time."
And with that she turned and headed back out into the field.

Donovan nodded, watching her go back before turning to Ulrich. He ran the list of names of people he knew would be awake, he had met and he needed to see. He was debating on Elros too, but then again he only had talked to the man briefly.
"Fighters then," he murmured, "Who's awake do you know?"

Ulrich thought about that for a moment.
"Elros, Aragost, Celeborn, Halmir, Arthael," he began, ticking them off on his fingers, "possibly Bronwe, if he's up already - he always takes the night shift - Sir Ryder ... but he's out on shift right now ..."
He glanced over at Donovan. "We could go find him if you wanted, though he will be back here around dinner time as well."

"I haven't met Bronwe yet, though if he always takes the night shift I could possibly see why, we could catch Sir Ryder later," Donovan murmured, "Halmir and Arthael are a must, I do owe them a visit.... Elros certainly and Aragost...."
He trailed off for a moment, he had no clue whether or not he wanted to see Aragost. The ingrained schooling had taught him he should see Aragost, on principle of the point, but....
"I have no clue," Donovan admitted, "I don't have a problem with him, but he isn't one to chat, and you know I have a hard enough time talking to everyone as it is... doing this stuff isn't my forte."

"I have to admit," Ulrich agreed innocently, "you are at your social best when you're trying to irk someone ... and Aragost ... is not someone that you want to irk. I've never seen him angry, and I never want to."
He started off towards the barracks.
"The others, I believe, are in their quarters," he went on, normally now. "There shouldn't be any problems with visiting them. Ah ... and Halmir and Arthael moved their quarters, both of them - their individual rooms were too small for two of them, let alone three or more, so they've got the larger suite downstairs instead now."

Donovan would have to agree, though if what he heard was true from Lin, he wouldn't even want to see Aragost annoyed. Granted to be fair he hadn't irked anyone in a long time... not even Tusbasa. He must be getting soft.
"Makes sense," Donovan murmured, "I have to admit, I think Ulani enjoyed telling me that one a bit too much."
Meanwhile, the lessons for Lin had been going well. She generally had a long attention span, though at the moment her focus was broken. By one chattery butterfly, it wasn't so much that it was louder or talked more than most, but rather it was one of the few times it was in Common Tongue. More importantly it had for once news that she was interested it, which was probably why she was staring at the little white winged thing that was crawling near her hand on the table.

Ulrich chuckled deeply. "Well, it's been a good long while since either of us have had the chance to surprise anyone. In fact, these past several years, we're the ones who have been getting the surprises."
He opened the door of the barracks and waited for Donovan to enter first.
Elros noticed that Lin was no longer paying attention, and he followed her gaze to a butterfly that was crawling along her arm.
"Is everything all right?" he asked her softly, concerned. He knew how upset she could get when the butterflies bothered her at times.

"Yes, I think she relished in my double take," Donovan replied drly as he stepped in and waited for Ulrich to lead the way, "Though when I really think about it, it's not that unexpected...."
He supposed a part of him at the time thought it was just because Arthael was the only one could stand to be around Halmir for long periods of time. Which was probably how it came to that, but everything inbetween he had no clue. Not surprisedly though, he was always missing out on something.
Lin thought trying to listen in, those soft voices always made it hard for her to tell who was talking. She was getting a bit better, but it was still soft.
"Someone's pregnant," she murmured.

Ulrich laughed heartily. "I don't blame her," he chuckled, heading down the hall. "How often is it that you can be taken by surprise? Honestly, it's an accomplishment more than anything."
He grinned at Donovan. "Who first?"
Elros's normally expressionless face changed, slowly appearing amused. He put his elbows on the table and folded his hand just in front of his mouth to hide his grin.
"Is that a fact?" he murmured.

"Who's closest?" Donovan asked.
He knew that Aragost and Elros were on the second floor, the latter he knew because Lin went there whenever she got a chance. However, he had never met the other one and he didn't know which of the larger rooms the couple had moved into.
"Hmm...." Lin nodded, "The person is very excited, talking about expecting.... I think it's Halmir the one doing the talking, it sounds like something he would say. Well... I mean, the way he talks."
Though the question was, who was pregnant, she was just waiting for Halmir to drop a name. For that matter why was Halmir the one so excited? Then again he did seem to get happy or excited about plenty of things, so for all she knew this could be normal.

"Halmir and Arthael," Ulrich replied immediately. He stopped and pointed back the way they had come. "Bronwe and the other night shifters are on that end of the barracks, it makes it easier when it comes to keeping quiet for people who need to sleep. Elros and Aragost of course are on the second floor."
Elros tried to hide the smile that was growing bigger and bigger by the second.
"I can well imagine," he replied innocently.
