bluestarryskies fatcheehcs is your sister just starting? if she is then i suggest you to wait a year or two. first year is worst on a flute... otherwise you can easily go for a solid silver flute(at least for the headjoint), B foot, split E(no idea waht that is, but heard it helps), and can't think of much else. ask your or your sister's band director. oh, and buying used instruments will save a lot. hope this helps. Nah, she's 3rd year already, 4th year next year. We share the closed-hole, when it's marching season we rent a flute from the music store, but when it's concert season I go back to clarinet and she just uses the closed-hole. She's a middle school student right now, but high school next year and the competition is fierce to move up bands, it's ridiculous. I was looking for more toward what brand would be best, but thanks for the info about split E, I know about the B foot one but not about split E. Anyone know any good brands? I've heard Yamaha's Allegro is pretty good for an open hole and not excessively expensive. If you look at my post on the previous page, it's more insightful and I list two brands that I know are good.

So district auditions were last night. My judge was hilarious. After I played, she was like "I can really tell that the flute is the instrument of your soul." And then she was like "When you play, I hear your soul coming through the music, and I LOVE listening to you play."
It was so funny that i'm surprised that I kept a straight face.
This is the same judge that last year, after I play one my scales, looked me straight in the eyes, and said "That was the BEST scale I have EVER heard. If I could give you a perfect score for everything right now, I would." And then she did give me a perfect score. It was funny.
My friends last night were joking that next year i'm going to walk into the room, and she's going to see that it's me, and be like "you don't even have to play, you're first chair." Haha, I wish.

Im so jealous. sweatdrop I just looked them up. They're ridiculous. They have like 400 people in their marching band, and they march bassoons and oboes. That's ridiculous. Were they even good? (my marching band only has 5 flutes)

One whole box that they had on the field of people was almost our whole band @_@

We have nine in our top band, and we march 28 flutes. Why would you march a bassoon or oboe? Couldn't it, like, kill you?

We only have one band besides marching band at my school, and it has two flutes. We have like 20 something total. But we're going to be bigger next year, because the middle school is sending up something like 30 kids.

Ehehehehe. I'm a flutist. I just lurk around the place for the most part. Rather quiet and keep to myself. But I'm here and might start posting more often. Life has been rather busy for a while, but I'm managing better now. whee Nice to meet everyone. smile
