I'm sick as, I'm not getting any better no matter how much I take of what I've been told to take, I'm so sick of it.
I'm just not getting any better at all!

Not until you apologize.

So what you're saying is you're too much of a coward to speak in english. Fair enough.

Culturocentrism (n): A state of bigotry wherein an individual will center their culture or language above all others as a default and expected language. This will often result in bigoted claims of negative reasons for using a language that does not fit their own in situations where they lack the cultural comprehension to understand why that other language is being used. It also tends to result in them possessing no knowledge of other cultures because they feel that their culture is the only one worth knowing about, as per their bigotry. You're more likely to get attacked by a toy breed then a pitt type breed.

True that. We have a woman in the next building who owns a Yorkie and NEVER keeps the damned thing on a leash scream . We have to keep an eye out for it because it's not unusual for it to run over and try to n** my dog or us even. The next time it bites my dog I'm tempted to punt it back to its owner.

Dogs are, generally, the way you raise them. Pit Bulls can be the biggest sweeties in the world. It's pretty awful how people attribute the effects of abuse and attack training to naturalistic causes.

Last chance with me before I point out your racism to the Crew of this forum.

Edit: Never mind.

I don't see why this is necessarily negative, within context. Why should one not expect another to speak to them in a language common to the both of them, assuming the person speaking knows, or has a strong belief, that the receiver does not know the language the speaker is addressing the receiver with? Is it not rather like coming up to a person and then deliberately speaking too lowly for them to hear?

Rather then punt it I'd just report the owner to animal controll. What are the leash laws in your area? In your apartment complex? If she's not following the rules she could be fined, evicted or have her dog removed. And if the dog is that dog/human agressive I'd be afraid of children getting too close to it. The owner sounds very irresponsible.

We don't know the owner's name or what apartment they live in exactly. We're not even sure they've notified the office that they have a dog, so there's no guarantee that the complex's manager would be able to do anything about it. There are quite a few owners here who don't leash their dogs; I can count the ones who do keep them leashed on one hand (ourselves included).

Ugh, that's rough. I really think there should be some sort of test for pet ownership, 'course I think you should have to have a lisence to have children too.

Next time you see her ask what the dogs name is, then ask hers. Easy way to find out. You should also really look into the leash laws in your area. Where are you, if you don't mind me asking, I may be able to find you some links.

I hate coming back to old movies I really enjoyed, only to realize they help spread the misinformation about Wicca and Paganism in general.

Take Disney Channel. They make a movie called Halloweentown. Girl gets really cheap ugly costume stuff to look like a medieval princess (yellow and pink/orange) and suddenly proclaims "I'm a Wiccan!".

I cringed. Especially since I made sure to watch it on a few occasions because I liked that movie so much in early middle/high school.

Aww, it's still a good (as in, entertaining) movie!

Sometimes things don't translate. There are cultural concepts that exist for me that aren't present in English.

There's also the fact that I am under no obligation to respond to demands by people who call me names like slut and coward.

The racism also stems from the assumption that my culture's traditions have to be profaned in order for others understandings. I was accused of insulting her- I provided an explanation of what I was doing, and that was sufficient for the person who asked.

No. It's nothing like that at all. But then, knowing what I said, I can understand why someone who didn't would make that analogy.

It's assuming that using a language that isn't English is cowardly without any reason to assume that beyond one's own personal issues with someone else.

The context is what makes it culturocentric. Especially if what is said can't be articulated in English effectively. There are also a host of other reasons why something may not necessarily be articulated in a shared language that are part of a culture not the same as the one being spoken to.
