I just started my 7th year as flute, and finally have made it to first chair. I just picked up piccolo as well, quite literally today. I'm going to play that in wind ensemble, because we don't have one.
I really love the piccolo already and I've only had it in my possesion for about 4 hours.

So the other day I decided to audition for From the Top's Jack Kent Cook award. If you don't know, From the Top is a National Public Radio show supported by the New England Conservatory. It features the best young musicians in the country. The Jack Kent Cook award is given to 20 highschoolers each year, and each wins $10,000. So it's a pretty major thing and it's really really really really hard to get. But I hope I can get it.
I'm auditioning on piccolo, and i'm going to play Vivaldi's Piccolo Concerto in C Major.

I really love the piccolo already and I've only had it in my possesion for about 4 hours. Awesome! Picollo can sound wonderful. :3 Though almost everyone complains of how high-pitched and ear-piercing it can be. Novel: The best of luck to you!

catzeye21138 Novel of Tragedy Farferalloie catzeye21138 I run a rag through my flute after every single time I play it. So do the other two flutes, kinda a habit I guess. =) A good habit though. x) Habit? Ya, you could call it that, I call it a nessicity. x3 Though most of the time, when I practice at home, I leave my flute together and stand it against something (mostly my desk) to let it drip dry or evaporate, whichever comes first, either cleaning it out or standing it up works. As long as it isn't wet and you seal it away in the case. Yeah, I always leave my flute together when I play at home. I'm always afraid something is going to like, crawl up in there. =S omg that's exactly why I don't want to ever play a brass instrument. ;; and I thought I was odd when I checked my flute for bugs before I played xd It took too much effort to take it apart and put it away because I played it so often.. and I'm sure it would wear the joint-thingies apart..

This girl in my band is being forced into playing the piccolo for a song.. It doesn't sound screechy or loud at all, to me O-o I dunno why everyone complains..

I almost got dragged into playing piccolo for wind ensemble...luckily someone else volunteered and now I just play it at football games. One of my screen names was piccolo_outta_tune ^^;

I played one part of the piccolo duet at my school's christmas concert last year. I tell you, it's murder trying to get the two piccs in tune. Oo

It doesn't sound screechy or loud at all, to me O-o I dunno why everyone complains.. it's not when there is one, but when there is two stressed . its pure terror... like two flute players playing a chromatic scale up to the high C. then adding a clarinet to that. i used to do that in middle school. it was fun.

ah! If you saw me out of all of the flute players at my school... you'd see i am soo out of place! They all dress preppy and think they're better than everyone else!! Me. I don't really care about clothing too much and I think everyone's better than me. xD yayy

Woohoo! Go, flutes! I've been a flutist for about 3.5 years and I'm in the marching band at my high school! So much fun! *squeals* I'm lovin' it!!!

I don't really care about clothing too much and I think everyone's better than me. xD yayy i dunno, i've never really noticed the ego thing in flutes. well, thats probably because for the last 4 years i've only really been playing with 2 or 3, counting me. and there aren't that many girls in band either.
