So I am in tenth grade in high school. *yay only two more years left* I started to play the Alto sax about halfway through my freshman year because we needed more so I switched from flute, and I positively love that I changed! So right now I have been on the sax for over a year now.

I play tenor in the school jazz band, and alto in our symphonic band. i like the tenor better, but that might be because the tenor is a school instrument and it is in much better condition.

:/ All right... So I'm having a bit of trouble with my [tenor] sax. I'm always sharp. Always. I pull out until I can't pull out any more or else my mouthpiece will start moving and possibly fall off. ]: Is it because I still don't exactly know how my embouchure is supposed to be? I've only been playing it one year. Should a get a new mouthpiece? Longer? Better suited? Is it possible to get that cork extended?

probably your embouchure...you say you don't know how it's supposed to be? well, i can't remember who said it, but he said it better than i can...think about a rubber band around your MP and reed...you want your mouth to be like that, firm but loose enough to let lots of vibrations. you need to develop your muscles before you'll be able to play for a long time like this..but it will come biggrin i promise...if you need any more help surprised feel free to PM me

Most of the time, tenor saxes play really sharp. Then, the player goes to tune it, and the mouthpiece falls off. I know exactly what you mean, and I know that it's possible to play in tune if you loosen up your embouchure a little bit and, if you really need to, extend the cork with some paper or something.

O_o lol I know it sounds weird (paper) but if you wrap it around the cork, it's a good temporary cork extender. If you play it enough, you won't need to pull out anymore; actually, when I play tenor, I have to push in quite a bit more than the other tenor. It just depends on how developed your embouchure is.

No that's not what i reacted to, it's the large amount of sharp instruments.

Hey, my name is Jon and I play the beri sax. I played alto for one year but then switched because the beri sounded so cool! I've been playing the beri since I was shorter than it, so it's been about 6-7 years now XD I want to play the contrabass sax so badly though and I have a question, is the beri sax part of the saxophone section or low brass? I've been told that in my band I can choose either one but is there a designated section?

Maybe it's because they all have the same brand of tenor, idk. I have a new selmer that I play on, and they all play on old (and some new) jupiters.
