The most extreme version of it, I think in your time you may refer to it as the "Keith Richards" treatment.
Science is more then just electrodes and chemicals. It is applying the correct solution to a given problem. And it sounds to me that you are in need of detoxification, not additional chemical input.

Cut out the addictives. Nicotine. Caffeine, those are all still legal in your time, I believe. Stimulate natural endorphins. Engage in physical activity. Exercise. Sex. Running. Whatever you prefer to do.
