Quote: Huzzah for flutes! lack of huzzah for piccolos! even though I play both! Flute's are so much better. does anyone find that most of the color guard members in their marching band play flute during concert band? Of our 6 guard members, 5 have played flute/are playing flute and the sixth isn't in concert band. Is my band weird, or is that normal? I even did it last year to see what it was like, and also because they needed someone who could march and dance to helpt the noobs, so I was drafted into captain status, but now I'm happily flute section leader. Commeents? That's pretty typical with my band as well. Alot of the color guard used to be flute players in my middle school band. There is only one that I know of who switched to concert band after marching season, but she quit after a while because of the color guard competitions. It's also pretty neat that your flute section leader, I'm flute section leader this year too, and hopefully next year as well! 3nodding

Elanchana Farferalloie http://www.oldflutes.com/im/fren.gif The blue arrows point to the french pointed arms. :3 Most intermediate and all beginner flutes have Y arm construction. Y arm: http://net.unl.edu/musicFeat/bach/images/flutekeys.jpg Ah. As in, Daniel's compared to mine. Eh...you wouldn't understand. Do you know why they're called arms??? Nope, wouldn't know that answer. xD I haven't gotten quite that bored yet. xDD

I just joined, I play the flute also. ^.^ I'm going to take up a second instrument though. The B flat French horn! I've been playing the flute for 3 whole years going on my 4th. ^_^ I'm hoping that there will be a band in the high school, I never really looked into it. I wanted to learn the piccolo last year but gave up as I couldn't find one and the school doesn't own one. -.-

::le sigh:: So I picked up my flute this weekend to practice, since I've been concentrated on mellophone for marching band, and I suck royally. That's what I get for not practicing in three months and learning a brass instrument. crying

I need to practice this year... the music is a lot harder. I can't even keep up with one song that we're playing, even if we're playing it at half tempo, and I'm the 5th best flute player in the school ._.

Ya, you said you had been playing another instrument for awhile, so an embochure change can definitely screw with your tone quality.
