Heh, I've been on such an art kick recently, but am sooo broke IRL (not working this summer, just supporting myself on art commissions (which is awesome! But, while I am making enough to pay the bills and eat, not much beyond that).

So definately been browsing the R&C recently, and need to start hanging out in here more =^^=. Need to also resurrect my request thread, and update it. I have kicked aroudn the idea of another art contest, but don't think I quite have the time for it right, now, and I usually don't like to have them around the start of semesters anywho.

this won't be for a while, but i am opening a breedables shop here and i need a shop manager & a writer.

all details are here - pricing & assistance

the manager would basically do EVERYTHING involved with the shop [including managing the guild for rp and such]. they'd receive 40% from flatsales and 10% from custom auctions plus a monthly salary for keeping up the shop. if the manager becomes too busy and still wants to be a part of the shop, i would hire a helper to take some of the responsibility but that would come much later.

the writer isn't really part of the permanent staff since they would just be doing some of the initial layout for the shop and they'd help me put together a storyline. all the ideas would be mine, they'd have to work with my notes & my nonsense then untangle that and write something more meaningful than anything i could ever put down on paper. if some custom auctions include a short poem or story of the pet the winner would be receiving and the same writer chose to participate, they'd receive 30% of the auction's winnings.

i probably missed something here, but all the details are in the thread in case i did.

if any of you know someone who'd be interested for either position [or if you'd be interested yourself], pleeeease give them that link. heart heart

i'm in no rush to open this shop bc i still have a lot of commissions to finish, but i'd like to start the process of getting everything ready in the next couple of months.

Welcome back Sabin 3nodding

Another art contest would be awesome. Your previous one was great fun to hang out in. Though summer's almost over, so I think most people would be busy soon.

*is chewed on?* xd *offers brains*

@magaly: Good luck finding the manager and writer!

Just curious, how long do you all wait for an artist to complete a piece before giving up on them (if they don't update their thread or give updates etc?)

For RL commissions 6-8 months with no contact whatsoever. About a year and a half if they send me "working on it/busy, sorry!" messages.

Gaia, hmmm. I tend to PM reminders every 2 months or so and give up around 6 months if nothing happens. But I don't really buy on Gaia anymore so...

I usually forget if someone owes me art. XD;....

That said, I keep pretty good lists of what I do owe to people. But keeping good lists doesn't mean i always make good time. Y_Y Uni, real-work and waht not.

thank you, Thornshield!

i try to check my list once in a while, but i honestly forget who i order from unless a trade is open.

even then i don't know why it's open or who they are, but i give gaian people i commission privately or from auctions one year, maybe a year and a half if i know they're pretty in demand and busy.

if i ordered from a shop usually 6 months. if you see a shop is inactive and that person doesn't post i suggest you PM them saying you need an update and give them a week to reply before you cancel the trade.

for cash commissions, 3 months before i note them asking for an update. there i actually have a chance of being ripped off bc i pay in advance. :s

Thanks for your input guys 3nodding

I'm in no hurry to get the art (and it's always a pleasant surprise when it suddenly appears in your inbox), but I don't like having so many trades open and money tied down especially when I don't have that much to begin with.

Too cheap too afford RL commishes, hehe. Maybe in the future when I finish studying and earn my own cash.

Hey biggrin

Yeah, I'm of a similar mind as far as wait times go. Though there are a few unfortunate cases where I've paid RL money in advance and have been waiting far too long and can't get a hold of the person. That is always the suckiest situation :/

And yeah, I think it's probably a bad time of year to start an art contest. Maybe around the winter break or next summertime. Who knows. Depends on my luck with commissioning in the meantime *shrugs* :3

I'd say the summertime is the best time, as well. I may work two jobs, but I still have more time during the summer than I do while I'm away at college. I rarely had the time to do stuff for myself between homework and art assignments. sweatdrop I suppose not everyone is in college, but majority of the people who entered my contest were either in high school or college. xd

On Gaia I tend to contact people every few months, assuming I even remember to do that. I have a few long-standing commissions with people now (the oldest from the beginning of last year) and the ones I've contacted have either refunded me, assured me they were still planning on doing the art, or just didn't bother to respond at all. A drag, certainly, but c'est la vie - I've never reported anyone about it.

As for RL commissions, most of the people I commission and pay upfront I feel pretty comfortable waiting even if it's been a year or so - it's a reputation thing, I suppose. If I engage someone to do a commission, they don't ask for payment upfront, and I never hear from them again ... well, I hold on hope, but if they never do it I can deal (even though losing a commission from a brilliant artist is never excellent).
