I started playing Tales of the Abyss. I got 5 hours into it. So far, I like Tales of Symphonia A LOT better. I think ToS's voice acting is better, the battle system, the characters, the story. Everything. ToA's story is also really confusing. I have no clue what's going on and Fon Master Ion looks like a young girl but it's actually a little boy.
I simultaneously started Arc Rise Fantasia. The voices are pretty good, the characters are great, the battle system's amazing. I don't know enough about the story yet, but so far it seems OK. Not great but good enough to play the game. Then again, Tales of Symphonia's story line doesn't get amazing until much later. So we'll see. So far my complaints are that the quality of the voices is bad - like it seems as if they were poorly recorded or recorded with a cell phone or something? Not that bad, but you get the point. Strangely, I don't notice it at all with Ryfia, only a little with Alf, but a lot with L'Arc. I don't know why that is. My other complaint is the script. It's like they tried to make the speaking sound like the time of kings and knights, etc, but while also sounding modern? It doesn't work. Obviously, the script-writer has NO IDEA HOW TEENAGERS SPEAK!!! It just sounds SOOOO weird. But this is only sometimes, not like every single sentence, so it's alright. I also can't stand the Rogress, but that I can get over.
I'm thinking maybe I just need to play ToA more to really like it. The same way I hated Jade's voice at first but then got used to it. Just because it wasn't what I was expecting. Actually, all the voice were different than I was expecting. Whatever, I got used to them. I can't stand Mieu. But Luke beats him up enough that it's acceptable.
Overall, ToS is still my favorite game, then ARF, then ToA.

Uriel;; Tota was hilarious. I really hated the first like 13 or so chapters. Not until the end of the first third did I start falling in love with it. The games plot is pretty confusing to you if you don't understand it. Basically, it's to make you feel like the main character, Luke, who doesn't know what the ******** is going on half the time. It'll take you awhile to get the fonon information. It takes a lot of reading, attention paying, paralleling, and understanding Jade's cryptic remarks. Playing it again for like the fifth time, I'm slightly amused(much more than last time) at Jade's hinting. I think right after the cheagle woods is when he figured out both Ion's and Luke's big secrets(they have different ones). Yes, you can assume they're gay for each other until you figure out what it is. Though I do have defense for Ion sounding and looking like a girl. A) he has a female voice actor. B) He's like what, 11 or 12. I agree with Tear. Mieu is adorable. Also, he's amazing to troll with. I personally like Abyss's cast much better. Most of the Symphonia cast doesn't have the depth that the Abyss cast does. You're probably going "lol. They have no depth." They really do. It just takes the whole game to figure out what the heck their real motives are. The battle system in Abyss is undoubtedly better than Symphonia. If only for 2 things. Free-run. Free-run. and Free-run. I won't complain about the voice acting though. Tear's voice actor is awkward for the first like, 1/3 of the game. It's like she can't find the pitch she wants to portray Tear at, so she changes like every twenty seconds. Most of Abyss's cast is kind-of obscure. I had only heard Luke, Ion, Jade, Guy, and Natalia's voice actors before I had played the game. And there are a lot of actors in the game. I think the more obscure the actors are, the lower quality the acting is because they're not exactly used to going in everyday and acting. It's a tough job. Rei;; <3? Ilu? Azura;; We WOULD.

I'll find what I've been searching for...
I do understand they want the player to be as confused as the protagonist. That makes sense to me. But I think for a game designer that's a dangerous strategy to use. It's a turn-off to players not to know what's happening. But I want to be tough and stick it out! I do find it really funny. ToS and ToA are both funny, in different ways. Zelos hitting on Sheena, Luke beating up Mieu, Lloyd and Colette being stupid, Guy being afraid of girls. I know I didn't list anything very deep there, and I know both have deeper humor in them, I just can't think of things right now. I have noted Jade's remarks but, as I've never completed the game or looked up spoilers, I'm left in the dark about them. Wait who's gay for whom?! O_o I mean there was that whole Guy saying he can't be caught in Luke's room again and sneaking out, and then him later having a phobia of girls, which Luke worded as, "Guy doesn't like girls.".... But that's fangirl material. You can keep that to yourself talk2hand No I meant Ion looks like a girl. He sounds like a boy. And that female voice actor thing means nothing. Naruto is voiced by a girl. So are Bart Simpson from The Simpsons, Tommy Pickles from Rugrats, Timmy Turner from Fairly Oddparents, etc. Oh hey I believe you that they have depth. Although I'd argue the ToS characters have A LOT of depth too. And, in ToS, also it takes the whole game (maybe more than once) to see all of it. So I'm sure ToA is the same. I can be patient. Hell, I'm an RPG-player; I had better know how to be patient! I know you disagree, but I actual prefer not having free run. I like it better without it.... I think I just had problems with the VAs because it wasn't what I was expecting for anyone. That's really it. And then some I have issues with (Jade, green haired guy with mask) but whatever. It is kind of weird to hear the same voice out of Asch and Luke. Although I have to say, ToA beats ToS by far as far as character designs. I mean the way they look. ToA is a lot better. I mean ToS has some good ones like Marta and Zelos, but ToA has more really good ones.
...Whatever that is.

I'm sorry. I tend to talk a lot, Rei.
Farah: uhm. >///< I wasn't aware anyone was supposed to get me. Me: I can play it either way. I tend to push Ras x Farah more than Farah x Reid. It's just my fan shipping, and my dislike of Reid.
Uriel;; It is dangerous, but you can understand the game by following the sub plot. The main plot is available right away, but to only those that understand it. The subplot you should be able to pick up on fairly easy is the stopping of the Rugnica Plains War. It's best to play it that way. I had more fun. <3;; lol. Guy can't be caught in Luke's room because of Nobility rank. Servants cannot be friends with their "masters" so on and so forth. Guy's Gynophobia is deeply rooted. The one with the mask is the god General, Sync the tempest. The Chief of Staff. I forget who outranks who. I know that the God-generals themselves aren't actually Generals, since the "Commandant" himself is only equivalent to that of a Colonel. Though in the Daathic military I don't think they have a need of a Field Marshall and ranking Generals. I think it goes like this: Van -> Locriean Colonel. Legretta -> Locriean Major Sync -> Locriean Major Asch -> Locriean Captain Largo -> Locriean Major Arietta -> Locriean Captain. Dist -> ???? - Intelligence Division. Technically Idk about Dist. There are several reasons why, but I can't say. All I know is that Asch is outranked by both Largo and Sync. Though Legretta might be a Lt. Colonel instead of a Major, and it was just translated wrong. I was being sarcastic on the Luke x Ion thing. Just the way Ion acts makes him like a girl. Anise herself will b***h about this in a skit. XD Well. I mean. I know ToS characters had depth. But none-so-much as Abyss. I cried several times during the Abyss plot. especially at the deaths of Largo, Legretta, and Arietta. I didn't cry that much during ToS. Abyss is tragic. Symphonia was a little more lighter than Abyss. Oh. The god generals shall teach you differently why free-run is essential. Especially avoiding Legretta's Holy Lances, or Dist's Kaiser Dists. I beat a Kaiser Dist with just Tear, free-run, and several combat moves she gains. Free run is mecha important. If I had free-run in ToS1, I would be unstoppable as Raine. > .>;; Since she can't flee when a boss charges, I'm always screwed over. I see. They kind of fit in my opinion. Oh. There's a specific reason why Asch and Luke have the same voice over. I'm sure you're either at Chloral Castle or A little past Baticul factory. It depends on if you did the sword dancer or not. ; l Yeah. Kosuke went a little crazy on their character designs. They just look so natural and nice.

When I dress nicely, and I walk around without my schoolbag at school I often get mistaken as a teacher. and I just turned 17. So. Go figure. it's just how you present yourself. I've come to learn how to avoid this by looking like a regular teenager. Which is something I loathe generally. Well, I can believe Tear is younger than Asch. definitely. SPOILER:She's actually older than Luke. ...hm. He's just a princess type.

Is it something like Luke is a clone of Asch? Or something? Because I remember that in the "Viva Tales of" things. Luke is constantly screaming in a fairly hilarious way "STOP CALLING ME A REPLICA!!!!!!" scream And then there was a joke about how cutting Luke's hair differently changes his personality. Jade says, "Sorry, I meant to get the short-haired Luke *facepalm*."
But yeah if you can't tell Asch and Luke are connected by the fact they have the same voice, then you shouldn't be playing something as complicated as an RPG xd Ok maybe it's understandable if it's your first RPG, but if you've done one before and know the generic plot twists, it should be extremely obvious.
Speaking of which, in the most recent issue of Gameinformer, they had a flow chart entitled "Every RPG ever made." I went through it, putting a little asterisk above everything that was included in Tales of Symphonia (1 and 2). ToS got a 61 out of 124. It's almost 50% generic. Good job, ToS. Good job. xd I told someone I know and she said if it was Kingdom Hearts it'd be a 90%.

Asch: *snicker* Me and Luke together: No spoilers! > /// <;; Asch: Fine. Ruin my fun. I'll say in game soon enough anyway. Me: Long haired Luke is bratty, and short haired Luke is kind. Something happens in Abyss that makes him change to this.
Well. I guess. I mean. It's pretty heart-wrenching though. Like. Okay. I mean. Some of it is predictable. but. really. Some of it isn't. Like. Largo's back-story. It was WAY out there. Though I guess they had to stick it in. They hint at it, too. But when you figure out what it is you're like. "Well. Damn. I feel kind sorry now." fffff. Where are you, exactly, Uriel? I saw that. I didn't really care for it. After god knows how many RPGs, they get kinda predictable. I also saw the DMC article. I cried at the black haired Dante.

Yeah I could tell by the facial expressions in Luke's fanart. Short hair = smile, long hair = arms crossed and annoyed expression. Usually. I drew Luke before I knew that so I have a smiling long-haired Luke in my drawing folder. Oh well. At least it looks good!
Largo... -google images- OH THE BIG GUY! Does he even /need/ a back story? He seems kind non-essential. I got to.... the point where.... The last thing I remember is something called the miasma interrupting an encounter with the pink-haired girl that controls monsters. She called a liger her mommy? Then I switched to Arc Rise Fantasia. I'll go back to Abyss after I beat ARF.
Yeah I've never played DMC, but when I saw that I got really confused. Any bells that potentially could have been rung by a DMC picture were just confused by that. I had a mental image of I guy with a long-sleeved red coat and white shoulder-length hair, and then I see some dude with black short hair and all beat up, in prison. What? O_o

Luke: Hey. It's not like I didn't smile while I had long hair. = w = ;; Me: *to busy trying to beat the crap out of a raging Nero muse to be in this conversation*
Luke: Oh. You mean the first meeting with Arietta at the Fubras river. When Jade tried to kill her, right? You're starting the two or three chapters of Chloral CaNevstle then. Yeah. Arietta's backstory is kind of complicated. She has a whole manga devoted to her. Actually, Largo is pretty important to the plot. You won't find out his purpose later. At least until you meet Natalia. You're probably not going to like her, either. We were... a lot different at the beginning of this journey. Asch: tch. You just got more bolder with your stupidity, you damn dreck. D : Me: *finished failing at killing Nero.* D : Stupid. Cocky. Punk. a**. FFFFF. I regret gaining him as a muse. I do. Yeah. I think Luke-muse summed it up. = w = ;; Dante: So you've heard of me? heh. Not surprised. Me: *sighs immensely and shoves the DMC characters away* It's complicated. from the information put out by Capcom, it looks like we're getting another prequel. This time before Dante gets Rebellion. It goes 3 > 1 > 4 > and 2, but that's not canonical.
