Obaa-chan Hello~! XD I'm a freshman at Firestone High School[Akron,OH], and I play clarinet for marching! Yaaay. Uh... I whack myself in the nose with my mouthpiece while doing horns up/down drills at Band Camp... o_o OH! Story time~! Well, in 7th grade our band director told us to get new mouthpieces and ligatures, to help our sound... so, I did, and it worked, and I was happy especially cause my old one sucks.... but then one day, my clarinet was gone from the cabinet! O_O I looked all over, and found it in the trumpet section.. it was fine, except for the fact that they BROKE my new mouthpiece! crying It made me very sad. I'm still playing on my old one now, cause I can't get a student discount anymore. Well, that was a fun story. Who here chews on new reeds?! *raises hand* biggrin I do,they taste kinda warm..like paper. I eat paper too, but not if it has ink on it. Who here is going to the BOA thingy in Indianapolis? We're planned to go, but I really have no idea what's going on. sweatdrop YAAAY *CHEER* *too enthusiastic*Eheheheh! I like you! I used to chew on reeds... they tasted like apple cinnamon oatmeal to me... lol

I'm Bl3achFr3ak and I'm a Junior in Westfield High School in NJ - the home of the Westfield's marching Blue Devils - and as of now, I'm just a former Marching Band student, but I'm considered to them as a...... a...... a mascot, I guess? Especially to the clarinets. =3
In the school band, I'm the first chair (and a first clarinet) since I'm the oldest in both Symphonic and Concer Bands - and as the rule apparantly goes in my school, the oldest student out of the two bands MUST be a first clarinet and MUST be the first chair, and if two students are of the same grade and of the highest grade level from both classes, they must decide amongst themselves who will be the first chair of the first clarinets - and as for the Marching Band, I have know clue which clarinet I'll be since everyone's assigned a specific number to copy out of the drill chart for the spots for the show.

Well Thomas, Clarinet's are pretty much amazing. I originally joined band in the 5th grade to play Saxophone in the Jazz Band...but the Clarinet was so amazing I didn't switch. Now, as a Junior in High School, I play in the Jazz Band, and this is my second year there. I play Tenor Saxophone in Jazz Band, Clarinet in Concert Band, and I'm Drum Major in Marching Band. So even though you didn't get the saxophone now, you can always switch, or just play both later. smile

You'll be glad that you chose to play clarinet. It's a lot more fun than saxophone, (in my opinion), and you get the melody a lot, so that's always a plus!

MMmm yes, who else loves the feeling when they're playing with the whole band, and they're doing REALLY well on a song. The rush is so intense, especially when you have a lot of the melody! ^-^
Mmm, I miss the feeling. sad I recently dropped out because of a new dumb band director. (It was his first year at directing too, how dumb do you have to be to risk that?!) Gahh...
Can you believe... We were at a football game, and I was walking down the track, getting ready to march. When all of a sudden (I don't remember what the heck I was trying to do), but my lyre (however you spell it) whacked me RIGHT in the eye. & having contacts didn't help! 'Cause it popped right out into my hand.
My EYE, not contact, heehee. So there I stood, bloodshot eye, lookin' high. crying my eye out, everything blurry in my right eye, eye STINGING like heck. I told my band director, and what did he say? "You'll be ok, get in formation, and put your contact back in."
Just like that. surprised Not cooooool, not long after that did I drop out. And then a week later they fired him. -_-; Ughh, that's my luck. I'll get back in next year though.

I'm in Waynesville's Marching band and Concert Band. I hope to be starting steel drums soon though, if I can figure out when practices are. Unfortunately, I am the only one in my clas playing the clarinet crying But, it's not that bad. I've been playing since 5th grade when we were first given the option to start band so I've been playing for almost 5 years.
