Darius grinned nastily, opened his stomach-mouth, roared, "SHOOP DA WHOOP," and spewed forth the elements.

Not just an element. THE elements.

They burst free with a massive pulse of light, a tingling of the air, and an emission of heat, cold, and earth-shaking all at once. At the beam's core was fire and earth, surrounding by ice, water, and immense amounts of wind. They wove in and out into a massive white pillar, smashing outward into Helmsborough's chest and stomach. It was at least as thick as Helmsborough was tall, given Darius' massive height and girth. And it could be felt. The earth was quaking; the itching was back but at least five times as bad. Furthermore, Darius wasn't exhausting; he lost a foot and a half in stature, but his fuel was the world around them. And it had enough for him and more.

Joe was caught by the chain, and due to his high speed he was pulled down into the ground. Hard.
His breath was knocked out of him, but that was no problem for one who spoke to the Wind: it wooshed into his mouth, down his throat, and picked him back up. He fired an arrow straight down at the chain, which was weakened as Helmsborough's focus was diverted by Darius.
Leaping forward, Joe did his best to contribute by firing haphazard attacks of random power at the pillar of light, hoping to do some damage to Helmsborough.

((Begad...I've been countersponged! eek ))

((*Sighs* Keep the memes to a minimum, please. sweatdrop ))

Joe's arrow flew down the length of the chain through its portal.

--

Somewhere in the distance, Siber saw - or would have seen ((I'm not quite clear on his absence or presence of sensory input here)) - a streak of fire from the sky into the fortress.

--

Helmsborough spat out the arc, disrupting Darius momentarily. He spun in midair and began to suck Darius' attack through the hole in his back, even opening his shield there to allow it in more easily. It appeared as though the hole had teeth at its edges.

((Sheesh. You shoop one woop and they call you a cannibal the rest of your life.))

Darius knew that whatever this was, it wasn't something he needed to be feeding, and he snapped his mouth shut. Now, however, Helmsborough's back was to him, and his shield was down. He threw himself forward, going so far as to lengthen his arm particularly to get in while he had a chance.

Fyrin saw the shield go down too, and decided now was probably a good opportunity. He emptied a good half a magazine in a very short period of time, hoping and praying that it would do something extra with the shield down.

With a shrug, Joe lobbed a fireball into the shield.

((Did I miss something?))

((Joe: yes. yes you did.<--
Venom: Siber can see; he just hasn't opened his eyes. And nothing stopping the firespam? Samuel moved it. But I guess that doesn't matter.))

Samuel sat down on a pile of rubble to watch. He had been effectively removed from this, despite his legitimate best efforts and many minutes of time spent without any actual action. So he maintained his shield in such a way that it didn't dig a hole through Earth, and watched.

Siber, on the other hand, didn't open his eyes until he noticed the sounds stop. He had been feeling his way along, using the dæmon around him for guidance, until his aural input shifted beyond what could be expected without interdimensional travel. With a little grunt of disappointment, he noted that within the Heart of Darkness (for surely the dragon fleeing from him wouldn't be opening portals into universes besides the one from which it originated) there was no sign of Xemnas, Walt Disney, or even a random, cannibalistic white guy involved in an orgy with a bunch of tribeswomen. There was a castle, and there was a dragon, which he continued to follow urgently.
Suddenly, a fiery arrow burst through the sky (you know, like through tent fabric) and struck the castle.
"Interesting," he mumbled. He then raised his voice to the dragon. "I saved one of your brothers once from death! If you defy me, by logic, you defy your kinsman's life! Again by logic, if you defy the right of one of Abaddon's creations to exist, you defy Abaddon!" He grinned wickedly and pushed more energy into his vehicle. "Come meet the sweet death granted by hypocrisy!"
Dreamshell, he addressed, Because you had little power to sever bonds when even as close as a pillar, is it right to assume that here, in the bond's origin, you have even less power to sever? If not, I ask you to please begin your work, because we are so close to the source.

((Okay, now that i have internet access again... sweatdrop nothing has happened to Keilven yet? Or to the group he's in? I haven't found anything about them yet, but it seems to me like they would notice the changes in the house... so do i wait for venom to bring them back into the story? or do I just post a reaction to something that's happened in a post recently?))

((What's happening is us original RPers are finally getting the chance we waited for so long to actually use our little uberpowers and we're being rather impolite and forcing the newer RPers out of the picture. They ought to contribute/get held up by Helmsborough. biggrin

You could take the initiative and do something to Helmsborough - he's awful touchy, he oughtta notice.))

((Everyone is outside on the battlefield. Whoever wishes to act, may act. And Siber, an FMV I was linked to from the mediocre game Drakengard in which the sky shatters gave me part of my inspiration for the Heart of Darkness, so that description is not, actually, too far off.))

We can do little here, the Dreamshell replied. There is no inter-Pillar transmission here. In fact, the only real energy transmission is between the outer and inner sections of the Heart of Darkness.

"Alternatively," a voice boomed out, seeming to emanate from the very air around Siber, "You could stop trying to reclaim the gift of life you assisted that dragon in retaining."

--

Fyrin's bullets inexplicably veered to go through Helmsborough's back.

As Darius discontinued his first attack a flood of unlight that behaved like liquid poured from Helmsborough's back.

((I...I took the quiz. Someone...please...kill me...
Not really. And Siber, I understood every one of those Heart of Darkness references...that makes me lame. Like you. xp
I've played Drakengard! Lame Level Up!
And Bayer, I agree with you. Sorry Keegan. Its our show for now.))

Joe fired again, unsure what was going on.

((I only caught the Joseph Conrad one, sadly.))

The gunfire disappeared into the unlight, but Helmsborough twitched as it did.

((Hey, what? Siber's allowed to get away with references to Kingdom Hearts, but I can't even shoop a woop? Come on. No fair.

And I HATE the impossible quiz.))

The Earth is all about instinct. Darius was a member of the group "the Earth". So, logically, Darius was all about instinct. And instinct told him 'get the mother-effin' heck outta there, man!' Except in an Australian accent. With 'mate' on the end there.

He turned to go, very quickly, and discovered that something was up behind him.

Fyrin was knee-deep in a quickly rising shadow.

A cloud covered the sun, things got dark, and people got generally depressed. This effect was much, much more pronounced than the last time they had run into the Necromantic Shadows, however; this one was apparently more powerful, and it had apparently managed to get the drop on Fyrin, who had been paying more attention to the magical absorption of the rounds from Paul's rifle than to his ever-changing surroundings, which were now attacking him. Go figure.

He tried to scrape the thing off with a single swipe, but it didn't work; the Shadow was firmly latched on, almost up to his waste. And it wasn't giving out by any long shot.

Darius considered briefly taking off Fyrin's legs in order to save him, but he decided that the necromancer probably wouldn't be too pleased, so instead he took a good fifty-yard bound away from Helmsborough and ordered a veritable tornado to assault the Shadow, who merely conformed to its shape, more or less, and only had little tiny chunks of itself thrown violently away.

((Dude, shoop da whoop just comes out of nowhere. And is a meme, unlike Kingdom Hearts.

And god himself won't be able to help the character of anyone who posts anything about Seaking or Chocolate Rain.))

"Ah, excellent. A Necromantic Shadow; it should have few complaints about me, since Abaddon and myself touch necromancy equally infrequently," Helmsborough said rather loudly, making a point of letting the Shadow hear him. The Shadow took advantage of Helmsborough's unlight, which was creating a coating over the ground, to conceal itself between attacks.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 6:54 pm

((Shoop da woop doesn't come outta nowhere! He drops open a massive mouth (admittedly without lips) and shoots a lazer. Come on. I mean, seriously.

Tay Zonday! biggrin ))

The Shadow's face appeared on Fyrin's chest. Its grin was nasty. Especially nasty. Somehow, the features were broader, more wicked. The sort of thing that hunts and eats babies for sport. "You know, I'd claim that was kissing up, but I'm dealing with the God of Darkness's avatar, so I suppose I'll reserve my opinions, shall I?" The grin twisted slightly upwards as he spoke. Fyrin seemed dismayed as the shadow seeped up his neck. Then he blacked out his head and slammed it forward at the Shadow, and the Shadow finally had to let go; he hadn't been paying absolute full attention and had nearly missed. He slipped back into the unlight, and Fyrin leapt across the unlight, grabbing the still-unconcious Paul and rolling away before the Shadow's claw could catch him.

Stopping, he whirled, and spoke a simple word. "Sabre."

"Oh, but who else?" the Shadow - no, Sabre said. He reeked of the unlight, drawing in its energy as well as the light he had blocked off. His eyes focused very tightly on Fyrin. "You're just a nightmare walking to me, and I'll see to it that the nightmare will live no longer."

"Come now, Sabre. You know that singing doesn't bother me anymore," Fyrin replied smoothly.

"We'll see yet, shall we?" Sabre asked with a grin, then turned suddenly to Helmsborough. "Help me block him in," the shadow demanded, slipped into the unlight, and was gone. Except Fyrin could see him flick up occasionally, breaking the surface like a whale coming up for breath, but about twenty times more subtle.

"If you don't learn respect, I'll annihilate you after this battle," Helmsborough snapped. Nonetheless, the unlight pool formed a perimeter with weblike connections within, bubbling and churning to better conceal Sabre.
