So how does that counter the rhino dude that breathe in nitrogen (as their oxygen) from Ninja Turtles, that if used on gaia, would be teleporters?

Jay
*wake up in a cel after being sedated, and teleports out to the hide out then collaspes as compressed nitrogen bubbles int eh blood expand in the persons blood spinal collumn and brain causeing paralysis and possibly death.*

Wouldn't their bodies be used to the expansion, the artieres, veins, and cappliaries that is? What with clogs and such?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 26, 2005 7:10 pm

No, their bodies would be used to utilizing nitrogen rather than oxigen for those particular reactions.

Humans have nitrogen as well as oxygen in the blood... rapid decompression causes the nitrogen to expand into pockets or bubbles, which clog veins and arteries, stopping the bloodflow and causing internal hemmoraging.

It doesn't matter if they breathe the stuff or not, they wouldn't be used to internal hemmoraging, I'll promise you that.

If you slowly pressurize a body nitrogen bubbles in the blood compress. If you then rapidly decompress that liquid the nitrogen expands forceing blood outwards agaianst the arteries and veins which can cause internal bleeding, or loss of xgen to important componants.. I mean if you flushed all the blood out of a persons spinal column there ability to move would become zero... not to mention the internal stress.

this isnt even counting air in the lungs... its like takigna ballon down to 300 feet then releaseign it, as it reaches sea level it explodes.... this is why divers have to do step ascents that slowly readjust their body to the pressure changes, rapid ascents from anything beyond 60 feet require repressurization ina pressure tank then slwoly depresurization over a matter of hours.

-raps his gavel from inside the cell-

I can still hear you all!

Anyways... Sun's siggy gave me an idea... All around the stadium..like on the high walls and what not- can we have gargoyle-esque effigys of leviathans placed?

You know, stone leviathans.. would be kinda cool, and of course the leviathan crest flags waving and fluttering up there.

Welcome to the Forest
Misc. Animals:

Trick Rex- A large reptilian monster. It's highly intelligent and often sets traps for hunters by walking backwards into a cave or other concealed area to make the hunters think that it left from that area. It has a disproportionately large mouth with three rows of teeth. Despite its bulk it is very fast and can maintain speeds of up to 45 mph for distances up to a mile. It has a tough scaled hide, with hardened plates of bone over its sides, back, and on the outsides of its legs. Its main weakness is the throat which has softer scales, the eyes which lead directly to the brain, and the nasal cavity which also leads directly to the brain. These weaknesses are difficult to exploit though because for the latter two it is necessary to pierce six inches to a foot in order to reach the brain. The first method is difficult simply because while the neck scales are softer there is heavy muscle beneath them which can greatly slow a blade.

Commune Vermin: An unusual collection of creatures they look like very large rodents. Generally they are 1-1 and 1/2 feet long and 6-8 inches tall. They have very sharp teeth and claws that secrete a strong hemo-toxin. There are two types of CV's. The first is the common CV they are in fact mindless and act on orders from the Overlord CV. The Overlord CV is the mother of a commune and are usually twice the size of common CV. They possess strong psychic abilities that can normally only affect CV's. Firstly the Overlord or OL is at all times seeing through the eyes of and controlling the actions of all common CV's within a commune. Communes are generally 30 to 80 CV's and the OL. Every 51st child of the OL is an infant OL, and upon maturation will have a litter of 10 common CV's, and move to a new location as OL of their own commune. Every litter after the first is composed of 5 CV's and every 10th litter is composed of a single OL. An OL will usually have a litter every 4 months.

Naga- The naga is a unique serpent. Aside from being highly intelligent and a mage naga's have an affinity for illusion and hypnosis that allows them to appear in almost any form. They often assume the form of children, young women, or young men to put hunters off guard and get them close enough to hypnotize them or spit a very corrosive venom into the victims face. Many naga's when in their serpent forms can hypnotize large groups of people or animals. Naga's also tend to develop a secondary magic specialty that is usually elemental. One of the most devastating examples of both a naga's cunning and magical gifts was when an old serpent that was being hunted by a group of 50 men used fire magic to scare several nests of Commune Vermin out of their homes and then used hypnosis to take control of 3 Overlords, as a result the men found themselves under attack by over a hundred commune vermin while the naga escaped.

Krelac- a particularly vicious sentient plant. It has dozens of vines covered in barbs that secrete a powerful anesthetic. These vines are capable of movement and react to vibrations in order to find prey to drag to the base. The base of the plant is buried underground with the top open. The base is a long tube that is filled with digestive acid and enzymes as well as hardened spines that point downward at an angle to prevent prey from escaping. One of the more dangerous features of this plant is that it's only real weakness is fire yet when the vines are ignited they lash about at the surrounding area while spewing clouds of anesthetic. If you manage to somehow bypass the vines and set fire to the base or the fire from the vines reaches the base it will send up clouds of superheated acid as it burns. Anesthetic is also released from the vines when they are cut.

Night hounds: Night hounds are dogs that were mutated and enhanced by a mage/ necromancer for the sole purpose of hunting down and killing any that opposed him. There are several builds of Night hounds. All night hounds possess three eyes, two of which are red, and the third of which is gold. Night hounds also have six legs and are able to communicate with one another telepathically allowing them to use superior pack tactics against most foes. All night hounds possess a very coarse fur which when exposed to fire becomes a strong yet flexible metal. They also possess enlarged dew claws which they use to hamstring or disembowel their prey.

There are three breeds of night hounds with very different appearences and abilities.

Mage Slayer- The most dangerous of the night hounds is the mage slayer. These hounds are nearly the size of dire wolves and stand nearly four feet tall at the shoulder and are up to six feet long. They possess a unique aura which acts as a magic damper and can cause those they are near to be unable to use magic or magic items. They can also project a strong sense of fear directly into a persons mind. These two abilities coupled with their strongest gift, which is the ability of a group of five or more to force all but the most strong willed of creatures souls from their bodies, makes them truly deadly.

Grunt- These are night hounds built for fighting. They have very heavy muscle and are larger than all but the mage slayer. They are capable of moving very quickly and possess poisoned claws and an acidic saliva. They also possess a thick hide which is so tough that it can turn arrows. They also possess incredibly dense bones. This makes it very difficult to stop them with conventional weapons because blades will often glance off of the bones. This breed of Night hounds also does not easily die or even slow down from blood loss, making gut wounds as well as many other attacks ineffectual. The most devastating ability possessed by Grunt's is their how. This is a deep howl that directly effects the middle ear of humans and most humanoids causing loss of balance, disorientation, and nausea. The howl is magically enhanced making it very difficult to approach or escape from a Grunt when they are hunting.

Runners- These are the greyhounds of night hounds. They are lightly built but are still the size of a normal wolf. They are capable of running so quickly that they can keep up with flying creatures. They have also been enhanced so that they can run nonstop at this speed for a full day. They must eat and drink at the end of the day. They serve as scouts and hunters. They are also capable of releasing a howl that will draw other night hounds to their location. This howl is not audible to normal hearing and is several actaves below that which can be heard by humans. The most devastating gift possessed by runners is stamina drain. This refers to the fact that they can bite their prey and drain part of it's life force and the stamina in the victims body will then be used to replenish the runners own. This is another method used to allow them to pursue their prey for long distances. Another powerful gift of runners is that they are capable of following any trail magical, spiritual, and physical to track down their quarry.

Hunter birds- Hunter birds are large birds that resemble chocobos from the FF series with some slight differences. Firstly they have a three section beak. The upper beak is solid and very sharp, it is also lined with two rows of razor sharp teeth. The bottom is actually two separate parts that are each also lined with teeth. They are pack hunters and have four 6 inch long retractable claws on each foot, three facing forward and one back.

Were-beings- The North forest is filled with were-beings ranging from wolves and cats to bears and birds. This is one of the reasons that poaching is forbidden. Many of the were-beings are not pure shifters though. A fair number are mages or druids that enjoy possessing a secondary form.

Sentient plants- These from predatory plants like the krelac to plants that have mimicked the forms of animals or people and can speak, think, and sometimes use magic.

Elemental horses: These are horses that possess an innate affinity for a specific element. There is one for each element. Some familiar forms may be the Pegasus for wind, the night mare for darkness, the unicorn for light, and the fire horse for fire. There are also horses with the element of water that appear to be wreathed in mist, earth possess anormous strength and have six legs, and there is a rare breed called the storm horse that crackles with electricity and can rund as fast as the wind can blow.

Enhanced animals- There are a variety of animals in the forest that are physically, mentally, and magically enhanced. The most dangerous of these are the enhanced tigers. They possess denser bone and muscle tissue than normal as well as intelligence above that of many people. They hunt in family units ranging from 2-6 individuals, and possess a toxic saliva. Due to the fact that they often groom themselves this toxin is on their claws and fur as well.

Demon wolves and tigers- These are avatars of nature. They possess unusual abilities and are the only beings in the forest outside of the krelac that the night hounds avoid. They can choose not to be seen by those not blessed by the nature spirit that created them. They often function as guides for druids.

VERY rough draft of a few parts.

The People:

'Strength begets strength'.

Whenever a great amount of power is put in one place for long enough, it begins to act as a magnet for similar power, small and large. This is true enough with the case of the nearby town of Barton. Over the past few years the populace has grown exponentially in both numbers and in their power. Races of all kinds from all over Gaia and even from some other worlds have begun to congregate there, for many reasons, but all for one:

They are all there because of the power.

Whether they have come in seek of power, or come to display their own, they have all been drawn in by the lure of it. Some use their power to prey upon the weak, some use theirs to protect them, and some care little either way, but have simply come for a fight, a challenge, or a lesson taught by those who have truly mastered their potential. Those who are rightious use their strength to keep order and to protect those that can't protect themselves, those that have evil hearts prefer to fight recklessly in search of even more power.

Barton and the surrounding countryside has become a gathering place for those who weild extraordinary abilities, and for those who wish to.

General area:

The Leviathan Stadium resides along the coast east and a bit north of Barton Town. Around it sits a conifferous forrest thousands of acres large, in which very little of a 'normal' forest can be found, save for the trees. The stadium sits upon a raised dias of earth, slightly above the area to the west and north of it, though to the south the earth continues higher in the form of a rocky overhang which towers above the sea in the east.

On the northern side of the stadium there is a small village errected, to the northeast along the waterline docks have been constructed, and to the west is an open field for about half a mile before the dense treeline begins.

Beneath the stadium and the whole area, really, is a network of interconnected caves and caverns which have openings in the stadium sub-basement, along the seaside cliffside, and in several low-points within the forest surrounding. It is also rummored that some of the buildings in the village have hidden doors under the floorboards which provide them with a quick escape route into these caves.

The Forest:

The forest extends as far as the eye can see from the top of the raised area that the stadium sits upon. It is thick, though there are clearings in some areas; mainly composed of oak, but interspersed with other conifferous types.

Inside there are few paths that lead through, even though the shade from the canopy has deprived the undergrowth of enough sunlight that it cannot propperly grow there, save for a few patches in clearings. It would be easy enough for a traveler to become lost in the vast expanses of wooded land, were it not for the ever-present form of the Leviathan Stadium that stood on the eastern horizon, visible for miles.

The wildlife in the forest is almost nonexistant, only a few herbivores and insect-eating creatures remian, as anything large enough to be bothered with has already been hunted down and eaten by the newest inhabitants: monsters, demons, and those who are mindless. The power-hungry beings who have been drawn towards the three cities, yet were too inhuman or uncivil to be able to survive within the walls of the city. Now they simply lurk, watching and waiting so that they can prey upon travelers in the hopes of aquiring some fragment of power for themselves and their kin.

The Sea

Similar to the forest, the sea is inhabitted by several different types of creatures that have been drawn towards the area by their craving for power. Sea monsters lurk in the deep and occasionally attack small ships that pass, though the larger ones are generally left untouched. Villagers that take boats out fishing should be wary of these dangers, though those that stay near the docks would not be bothered, as even creatures such as those who are mindless would not be so stupid as to lurk so near the village for too long.

From the land at the base of the cliff outwards, the sea is only twenty to thirty feet deep, extending about 100 meters before it sharply drops off to one hundred and twenty feet, and slopes downwards from there as it extends out to sea. However, further north of the village, along the coast, is a sandbar, upon which the earth slopes down as it extends towards the dropoff, rather than cutting so sharply down as it comes off of the rocks that form the cliff face.

The Field:

The field is simply what it is said to be... a large expanse of grassy field, littered in some places with tree stumps that had not been removed when the forest had been cleared to make room for the construction crew which built the Stadium. Wild grass stands about 2-3 feet high all across it, cutting off sharply at the tree-line as the shadows of the canopy prevent it from getting enough sunlight to grow propperly. Small grassland animals can be found in this area, as well.

The field extends for about half a mile west of the actual Stadium, and rests lower than it by a good thirty feet, sloping up only at the very end, almost sharply, as the road curves north, and then turns about in a ramp-like fashion, heading south around the western side of the Stadium towards a large gate on the south-west side. The field extends another half mile north, past the village, before the treeline and the coastline catch up to it, and a quarter mile south.

The land south of the raised area that the Stadium sits upon does not go back down to the lower height, however, but continues to rise slowly as it moves south along the coast, which makes the entire landscape of the field seem as if it slightly tilted, as the earth slopes upwards to the south, even after the treeline begins again.

About 200 feet south of the stadium, there is a small path made of flagstones wich leads towards an overhang on the cliff face, hanging over the sea, sixty to eighty feet below, depending on the tide. The overhang is barren, only the most stubborn of plants are able to grow in the rocky soil there. Only a few feet from the edge stands the monument.

The Monument:

A single stone slab, three feet high, standing upright upon the ground. In front of it grows a small rose bush, defying all odds by surviving and thriving in this barren place, while even the weeds seem to starve and die. When the sun rises in the east, the shadow of the monument is cast upon the bush, depriving it of that life-giving light that it needs, but as the sun rises, and eventually sets in the west, the rose bush gathers all that it needs, able to stay beautiful, despite having only those few waning hours to nourish it's small existence.

This monument belongs to Wenn, gone, but never forgotten.

*still has to read jello's pot*

Vahn, wouldn't there have to be someone assigned the duty of beasts attacking people in the forest or something close to it? Cause otherwise, there would be plenty of entrances of going into the stadium, bypassing the forest denizens as if they didn't exist.

Continuing on with the sketchy sketch type sketch of rough draftedness... God, I haven't even gotten to the rough draft yet, this is like the pre-rough draft planning stages. >< I'm more or less making an outline.

The Stadium Exterior:

The main road that leads through the forest from Barton and across the open expanse of the field rises slightly with the incline of the ground as it nears the Leviathan Stadium, though it does not go straight to it. The road curves northwards, until it seems as if it will completely bypass the Stadium if it continues that course. At this point the road forks. By moving left, along the northern path, one would find themselves heading towards the coast just north of the Leviathan Stadium; or more specifically, towards the village that sat at the base of the Stadium, and the docks which extended into the sea from there. By taking the right path at the fork, the road turns sharply south, heading around the stadium and upwards as it moves towards the south, hugging the western wall like a curved ramp until it reaches the most southwestern portion of the Stadium. The land on either side is far too steep to have run a road on it, so the road was put, instead, upon a ramp. There, when it is level with the building, itself, the road thins to half its breadth and continues in a full circle around the outside of the structure before rejoining with itself. Wide concrete sidewalks and park-like areas sit on the side of the road upon the eastern edge of the Stadium, overlooking the sea and the docks far below.

The Stadium has several entrances all around it, which are accessable from the roads, though the main entrance sits in the southwest, where the road emerges in front of it. It is twice the size of the others, and has large statue of the Leviathan, a godlike serpent, standing in the center of a fountain before it.

Any of the entrances are five feet above the current 'ground level', with wide flights of stairs leading up towards a flat semicircular area in front of the doors. The doors themselves are in a recessed portion of the outer wall that is also semicircular in shape, as if a large arch had been constructed over them. There are eight doors on the average entrance, which means sixteen on the main. The doors are dual-layered plate glass, not intended for security reasons, and normally propped open, anyways. To either side of the 'archway' stands a twelve foot tall statue of a herculean figure, adorned in traditional gladitorial gear. Above each entrance an enlarged version of the Leviathan banner is displayed on the side of the building, only taken down durring windstorms to keep it from tearing.

At night, spotlights are placed upon these, as well as two copies of the Gaian flag which fly on flagpoles to either side of the main stadium entrance.

As for the appearence of the building, itself, it is very straightforward; tall, concrete, and imposing. Very few windows are on the building, however, there is a large window, two stories tall, spanning both the second and third levels on the western side that overlooks the forest and the field. It is one hundred and ninety-two feet across and twenty four feet high, composed of separate 8x8 foot panels of glass, 24 wide and 3 tall. There is another just like it on the eastern side that looks over the sea. In the morning, when the sun rises, the light spills in through this window and onto the arena in the center of the building; As the sun rises, the light then pours through the open roof, and as the sun sets in the west the western window captures the dying rays in much the same way as its eastern twin.

(( Interior specs will be covered in another section. ))

And if I get time tomorrow I will do:

The Caves:

...then the docks, the village, and the stadium interior, of course. sweatdrop

EDIT: I apparently need to give height a bit more credit, as the building is apparently 10 stories high... though I think we can assume that the last 3 or 4 are just tall walls making it seem as if the building is bigger, I doubt they'd have 7 floors... though if each floor is 3 stories high at the ceiling, it would make a bit of sense to have a 10 story building... *wanders off muttering.*
