Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2007 10:31 pm

There was a sense that Daemon was nodding at what Gion said, this could be good for the both of them. Not to mention interesting for Daemon since Gion was acting as his eyes and ears now.

Hey you like history, right? Gion asked curiously. What kind of history?

Nearly any type!

Daemon seemed very excited about such topic.

However anicent history, as in any history that is over a thousand years old will do.. it might not seem that long to you, but since a thousand years is over ten generations it's long.

Hey, I'm only eighteen! Gion protested good-naturedly. A thousand years is a long time for me still!

He chuckled his silent chuckle.

Would you like to learn a bit of the history of the Four Lands?

I'd like that.

Daemon replied in turn.

After all I don't know much about this land at all.

Well why don't you tell me where to begin, and I'll tell you about it, Gion suggested. It will help make the time pass more quickly, if nothing else - and it's always been a subject of fascination for me as well.

Hmm... well....

Daemon replied trying to think since he wasn't sure... it was hard to ask when one had no background whatsoever to the land or history in the first place.

How about telling me how the elves made to settle here?

Gion chuckled. Straight to the dark stuff, eh? he grinned. Absolutely.

In the beginning, there was only one group of elves, and they were a mixed group, both types that the Valar had brought into being: the tall, golden-haired elves and the shorter dark-haired elves. Within a few hundred years, the golden-haired elves came to believe themselves to be better than the others, and created their own settlement in the midwest. One elf maiden, who was one of those rejected by them, was furious - but pained. There were many who wanted to fight the others to force their way back into their society, but this maiden realized that an action such as that would only worsen the situation. So she rallied the outcasts and led them south and east, as far from the others as she could take them.

Gion smiled proudly. Her name was Alyse, and she was elected the first Queen of the Southland Elves.

Ah.... nice and bloodless.. quite lucky... things like that don't happen... actually quite lucky in a way that all the golden haired ones did was just outcast them.... but that is uplifting.

It was true, Daemon knew that it could have ended in slavery, which would have been worse.

Gion nodded. Alyse was well-loved by her people, and for her entire reign - until the end, anyways - they dwelt in peace. And they settled so deeply in the south that after a few millenia the Westland elves - as the golden-haired elves came to be called - forgot about their very existence. And so they became two different nations, and very nearly two different races. Nearly.

Nearly but not quiet.... just enough to allow them to adapt to where they're living but not enough where they cannot be considered the same race... kind of like Asians, Europeans and Africans I suppose...

Daemon commented thougthfully, this was the first time he had heard a reason to why one of the same race were different, not even the humans had that.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:22 pm

Actually, Gion mused, the story of how they rediscovered us is rather interesting ...

Oh?

There was a hint of curiousity in that.

Well.. since they forgot about your people it would be like discovering you for the first time.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:30 pm

But what would be even more disconcerting is being a Southland elf in the Westland and not knowing it - spending a lifetime thinking you're an oddity and then finding out you're just part of a different nation, Gion laughed inwardly.

He grinned, both inside and out. I sure wish I could have met her.

Oh? Who?

Gion thought this was strange.

Start from the beginning Gion... how did that happen?
