I must live near one of the few WIC places. They're always nice to me and explain things. They never question what I feed him and even though I really need to eat more vegetables they never fussed about it.
They didn't even bat an eye when I asked to be switched from powder to concentrate...

So.. how can you tell if your child is special needs? I guess i just over worry everything because everyone tells me that my youngest is fine. She's just extremely shy, she does talk and has alot of words that she says.. she listens and understands extremely well.. but Im just overly used to how much and how well my oldest daughter was talking at this age (16 months as of Christmas day).. Sometimes it just frustrates me.. I for the longest time thought she had a hearing problem.. but then after tests and all that.. it was just decided that she was busy paying attention to the world and taking everything in. She's a real thinker, and likes to study things from almost every direction. She wants to know how the world, and every little thing she comes across works.. and that's why she isn't too focused on talking alot. *shrugs* you guys just all seem alot stronger than me.
Does she sound like she's okay? I never questioned a single thing with my oldest as far as learning goes. I don't know what classifies as a speech delay for this age.. but the following are words my youngest (the one Im worried about) says on a daily basis.
Mom, Mama (she'll use both, depending on her mood) Daddy, Dad, Dada (again, depending on mood.. Dada and Mama are when she is scared comfort mostly) Kitty (we have two cats) Ow! (for whenever she bonks her head or anything else) Cold! (because she's taken to touching the windows, and there is a foot of snow on the ground outside.. which makes the windows cold) Candy, Cup, Milk, More, Ni night, All done, Bath?, Toes, bye bye?, this, that, fan, teddy, bear, monkey, dance, milk, okay, hello (which is said as "ohh?" when picking up a toy phone), Karya (her older sisters name), Minnie (she loves minnie mouse), pizza, juice...
and a few others.. that I forget until she says em..
Is this 'normal' for a 16 month old?.. I guess I figured I would ask people who would know what was not considered "normal" for this age... heh.. thankyou..

ooh..^_^ thankyou.. I dont really trust the dr we go to.. as they actually said that she doesn't talk enough.. but from what i've read.. it seems to me like she talks plenty.. but is shy.. and thoughtful.. thankyou for that.. I was worried and my doctors are all too worried telling me that she's underweight (even though she eats, fairly well at that.. she just is very active!) and don't really want to listen to any other concerns

OH and their made up words DO count towards their word count. I wouldn't sweat it, Logan was the same way, didn't say much (that made sense to me at least), but they'll catch up. Just keep an eye on it, and if you do have worries, go talk to the doctor, they, sometimes, have ways of putting it in a better way to relax you.
