(( Welcome to Pupu Boxing 101! From here to... the mountains I will guide you IC and OOC.

OOC for post strategy. And stuff you should know.

IC because some clownshoes would prefer to watch your character development. Which to me is unecessary. Because if you say you can, then you can and that should be the bottom line. but anyway... ))

"Opk! Here we are! The vast, burning desert."

Reiko turned around to his newfound pupil and studied her for a second. What was going through his mind? Something perverse? Or something observant. Oh well.

"There are a few things we'll have to improve upon. Or at least by looks it seems so. I've never been one to underestimate anyone. They just underestimated me."

He sighed and wiped the sweat off his face with a towel he had draped over the cat sitting on his head.

"I'm sure you think it is very hot here. So the faster you learn, the faster we move."

(( Okay. ))

Rhys nodded slightly, trying not to acknowledge the heat, but they were in a desert afterall. Sweat sparkled on her forehead but she didn't bother to wipe it off.

"Okay then, I'm ready when you are, sir." She grinned slightly then shifted her weight from one foot to the other, keeping her hands locked behind her back. Her gaze was focused on her new teacher, ready to learn whatever he had to teach her.

(( Opk, where to start... the first thing you should know. Is that Offense and Defense are two different things. You can't do both at the same time.

Why am I saying this? Well, something a lot of rp fighters haven't realized yet is that they have abnormal reflexes. You know. When they attack... are clearly open because they miss, yet they defend as if their arms and/or legs had always been there.

If someone throws a punch.. or says they move their hand somewhere. And they leave a spot open (because after every single attack *hit or miss* there is recovery) and you attack it, but they try to defend or dodge. You should probably let them know that they're BS-ing. Actually them dodging is fine, because they'll look like a fool for trying so desperately not to take one single hit. ))

"I will teach you the basic punches."

Reiko put up his "dukes" a la boxing of course. In the orthodox style with his left side leading. His left fist was cocked back almost to the shoulder and his right fist was back near his chin.

"Oh and um... always keep your guard up. The first one is a jab."

Reiko threw his left fist out, almost extending completely, then pulled it back into position.

"The most important punch in your arsenal. It'll probably save your life as you can throw them and interrupt almost anything."

He threw a few more and the looked at Rhys.

"The next one is a straight."

His body turned slightly to the left as his right fist came up a bit and shot straight out before retreating.

"Your standard KO punch. It's even stronger if you step forward with it."

"Alright.." Rhys imitated his stance and the position his hands were in. She threw a few jabs out into the air followed by her thrusting out her right arm and bringing it back quickly as he did.

"Like that?"

(( Recovery time is always important to remember. Not just for your opponent, but for yourself. Because you are subject to the same rules and standards you hold them to.

it all depends on how much you exert yourself for each attack.

Jabs for example are quick and fast. You can throw as many as you like and defend anything that comes at you directly afterwards. If it comes at the same time though... and you are open where they are attacking, then you will get hit.

Feel free to interrupt them with a jab though if they begin to attack. If they raise a fist. Bam.. right in the nose. No questions asked. ))

"Bingo~. Jab. Straight. Combine them and you can make a one-two combo. Also important. The straight should follow the jab. Don't bother stepping forward because you will slow it down. Both hits should connect one after the other."

He threw a jab with the left and immediately followed with the right.

"They both connect because of the added weight from retracting your left jab and shifting weight to the right shoulder."

One-two, one-two, one-two. He kept throwing one-two combos.

"The shifting of weight will be important. If you let your retraction from the present attack add to the momentum of the next, you can do more than a one two combo. Because the speeds will all be the same. If you get it right. You can throw 8 punches a second."

He threw out 8 punches... following the rhythm of counting used in music.

"But I don't recommend that. You'll tire yourself out. And your punches will get weaker because you are getting tired."

(( That's also something interesting. If you've ever taken a music class, and you know how to count within and by seconds accurately, you can demonstrate just how fast you're throwing a series of attacks.

Gotta go for today~. ))

Rhys followed the one-two motion for a few times, then did the eight punches. She did the same process twice then grinned to Reiko.

"I think I understand all this already."

(( So to review.

1) Recovery from anything you do is important to take note of.
2) Offense and defense are separate by way of nature.
3) Insta-reflex is bad.
4) You and your opponent are subject to the same rules.

Why are these rules so important? So you don't end up 5 or more posts into a fight with only one attack thrown from both of you and neither has hit yet because you and your opponent keep making posts about how you thwarted it and try to make more posts about your attack actually happening. In which case you aren't even fighting anymore, you're arguing IC for the priority of a single attack. And it makes the fight really, REALLY boring and confusing. Keep it cut and dry. If you hit, you hit. If you miss, you miss. If it didn't work, it didn't work. Don't drag it out.

If anyone breaks these rules. Feel free to administer divine punishment upon them in any way you see fit. i.e. kill them in some way that reflex can't save them or just fight exactly like them and overtake them that way (works better if you have powers). Y'know. A taste of their own cheap medicine. If you ever choose to do it, I'll support your decision 100%. ))

"Good." Reiko laughed. "Then we can get into some good stuff."

He put down a sand bag that he oh-so-conveniently happened to be carrying and opened it.

"Those are the most important punches you have. If you forget or don't want to listen to anything else I tell you. At least remember those. You would win a fight with those two punches alone."

He dug in the bag and pulled out some hand wraps and walked over to Rhys to put them on her hands one by one.

"These are also important. Throughout the course of this training you'll know how to throw punches so well that they'll be extremely strong. Which is good, but bad at the same time if you don't have any protection."

Reiko held up his left hand and showed her all the bruises he had on them. All of them were from various things. Stitches, surgery, healed scars. All from fighting barefisted when he shouldn't have.

"I still fight pro even though I shouldn't. Boxers don't wear wraps and gloves to soften the blows they inflict on eachother. They wear them so their hands don't break from slamming their fist into the other guy's face so hard."

He finished wrapping her hands then tossed her some yellow boxing gloves out of the bag.

"Yellow is important too. Because it is a happy color. Fight all of your battles in the ring, out the ring, physcially, and mentally with enthusiasm and optimism. No one ever won a war because of hatred. They won because of the enthusiasm they put into their reason for winning."

He put a target mit on each hand, slapped them together, and then smiled.

"Time to put together the basics!"

"So, what do you want me to do now?"

(( 1) Denoting effects.

I'm sure somewhere along the line you'll run into someone who takes a hit somewhere that isn't the nuts, and doesn't know how to properly respond to it.

Now, you can't tell anyone that they would be KO'd from your punch because everyone is the toughest guy around. But what you can do is include in your post the intended effect(s) from connecting a hit in certain areas. Then they can't ignore them.

**-For now this will be an exercise in attack description.-**
(that and I'll tell you about the effects of hitting in certain areas)

So jab. For now we are fighting straight forward. So a left jab is just that. a quick thrust. You only have to say jab.

Straight. Straights are KO punches. Talk about turning your hips and shifting your weight to your right shoulder. From the shoulder, thrust out the right fist with that weight shooting through your arm to the end of fist. Straights, Jabs... are at the mostly head/chin by the way.

One-two. Jab.. talk about the retraction from it aiding in creating more momentum as you turn your hips left and shift your weight to the right shoulder for the right straight. One-twos are quarters of a second, sometimes faster. Throw that in there if you like. ))
"We'll do some mit practice.."

Reiko held up the left mit at face level and motioned towards it.
"Left!"

Then he held up a right one after it.
"Right!"

Back to left.
"One-two!"

Right.
"Straight!"

Left.
"Double jabs!"

Right.
"K.O. Straight!!"

(( Try this with quoting. This'll be a good exercise to get you used to interruption. Delete all the OOC junk up top. This too. Then just close quotes at the end of each mark. Type your response after each one.

i.e.

Reiko
A

your reply-
Reiko
A

your reply- etc... ))

Reiko
"We'll do some mit practice.."

Reiko held up the left mit at face level and motioned towards it.
"Left!"

Rhys nodded when he spoke throwing at a left jab at the mitt, quickly as jabs are

Reiko
Then he held up a right one after it.
"Right!"

After retracting her jab, Rhys threw out a straight punch at the right mitt. She turned her hips to the right, putting her weight into the punch.

Reiko
Back to left.
"One-two!"

Rhys pulled her right fist back, turning her hips back to the position they were in then thrusted (izzat a word?) out her left fist for a quicky followed by a straight punch.

Reiko
Right.
"Straight!"

Rhys pulled her right fist back quickly then thrust it back out towards Reiko's mitt, again turning her hips and using her weight into her shoulder to make the punch stronger.

Reiko
Left.
"Double jabs!"

Rhys pulled her right fist back and stopped just a moment to wipe a bit of sweat from her forehead before throwing to quick jabs at the opposite mitt.

Reiko
Right.
"K.O. Straight!!"

After pulling her left fist back, she thrust out her right fist for a straight, turning her hips towards the right and stepping forward into it.

((Pitiful.))

(( Don't worry! Practice, practice! We can keep working at it. What's important though. Are movement dynamics, and interruption. As far as interruption.. when fighting some one, at anytime you wish (provided you are in proper condition to do so) you can interrupt your opponent's actions.

Understanding movement dynamics are important for this. Things like how a punch is performed or, the weaknesses exposed by attacking.

But description is important so people don't try to assume your punch is just some trashy punch. Boxers have the fastest and strongest punches of any fighting style. Describe your attacks to cater to this fact. And no one can deny it by blocking it so simply. The more devastating.. the more descriptive, because people have to know why they're getting their a** kicked. ))

Reiko laughed after her K.O. punch.
"You punch like a girl!"

He continued laughing until he turned around to go to the bag. He slipped the mit off his right hand and blew on it. His hand was rather red for such a "girl punch."
I thought she was gonna drill a hole in my hand..

Reiko turned around and smiled, then his face became >=| as he took a fighting pose. His left hand dropped slightly and came back to breast level. Then as he turned his hips to the right and shifted his weight to the left shoulder his left fist went around in a heavy but sharp curve to the right. The tremendous speed and strength of his fist when cutting the air created a brief wooshing sound.

"Hook."

Then he retracted his left fist returned to it's position, then turned his hips to the left only slightly, then he shifted his weight back to the right shoulder as his right hand dropped to breast level, then, still bent came upwards, finally extending at about face level. That again cut air and made the sound again.

"Uppercut"

(( Oh! Remember this. And when you hit someone in these areas you might want to hint at these effects so they dont try to brush it off.

(head)
Head- wherever it goes, the body goes. It goes flying to the left, the body goes to the left. It goes flying back, the body goes flying back.

Temple- K.O. and if not that... You might as well ignore their very next post if they try to attack in it and just pummel them normally. Dance around or go use the bathroom if you want.

Eyes- Too many shots to the eyes make them swollen and they can't see. (blind spot) I'd say give them 3 if your attacks are pretty clean.

Chin- If you get hit on the chin. Hell sometimes it doesn't have to be a clean hit. Your brain gets rattled. Actions are delayed because your nervous system is in shock. The entire body will be hesistant to do anything.

(body)
Left breast - you hit someone here hard enough, their heart will temporarily stop from the shock. And so will their movements.

Ribs - Slows down punches with that particular arm because of the pain if they're broken.

Stomach (bodyblow) - The legs absorb a lot of shock. Body blows cause the legs to stop working quicker. Also... too many can delay a person's ability to breathe. Even if they have ample time to do so. ))

Sunstrike

PostPosted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 3:35 pm

Sunstrike lay on the floor, panting for a bit. He forced the growing heat from his body, as well as the mental urge to become more feral...the salamander had caught him off gaurd for a moment. He had been under the very mistaken impression that while in this form, magic would have no bearing on his physical condtion. He couldn't have been more wrong it seemed.

Any more magic like that and I won't be able to hold this form.. Hell, he wasn't really sure how he was holding this form to begin with. I hate to think what I'm going to look like after... Depression swamped him, he'd been planning...so much until this happened. He hadn't expected to change over...or for the change to be this complicated.

The scaled head shook in irritation, enough moaning, what's done is done. He was sure they'd figure out a reasonable way to solve this later. Right now, he needed to go to his original destination.

Picking himself up and dusting off, he went out the door again and down the opposite way to where his explorations had taken him before.

Bigger "caves" lined this walk route. A lot of the lizards that rushed back and forth were dressed in finery much like his own, or the livery of servants.

Ah! There it was. Sunstrike went into a paticularly large opening and sighed, trying not to sneeze at the musty smell that assalted his senses. Books, upon books upon...well, you get the picture. The scroll shop would have been completely dwarfed by these volumes. But where size was lost, was made up in quality. It didn't look as though a lot of the lizards spent their time reading...which was kind of a less pressing matter then a full scale war on your doorstop.

He squinted in the dim light and wandered in, studying the binds of the first few shelves. Then the same eyes widened and he made a small irritated sound. He could read these, he knew he could, but it was...hard to figure out...

Sunstrike pulled one down and began to work through it...he'd...

Dearc snorted and put it back. He'd read that before, hatchlings stories, not what he needed at all. Moving forward a bit more confidently, his claws tracing over book after book, he began looking for what he wanted.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 22, 2005 1:47 pm

Finally he found something a little more worthwhile. Still, even the author was degrading to the whole topic he was covering, as if looking for any way to prove everything was just myth and suspicion.

The Demonics -

Not to be confused with mythic "devils" though they may be in some fashion related, these creatures are supposedly a source of darkness that have managed to breach plane's and enter our own. Reports of such occurences are sketchy at best, and I fear this is yet another farfetched tale meant to frighten younglings into not going out at night.

They are known to be twisted mockerys of many differant creatures, usually combined through the use of dark magic, or through accident of magic gone awry. Though the sheer amount of this creational force-"

Dearc stopped and squinted at that. Creational forces, eh? Well well...that would make more sense. Though...was there enough magic in this world to build such creatures? No...maybe at one point there had been, but those creatures, Samuel and Ezekiel...they'd been old, they definately didn't look hot off the presses when it came down to it. They were completely adjusted to their changes as opposed to say, Sunstrike, who had been lost when he'd shifted forms. Not only that, those two had been POWERFUL in their change, they'd advanced.

Picking the book up from the table, Dearc set out again.

"Scuse me..." A lizard guard blinked as he was adressed politely by someone dressed like a superior.

"Don't suppose you can tell me where Engel is, now, could you?" The orange eyes glowed in wait, making the normal yellow eyed guard even more nervous and out of place.

"I...I think he can be found on the upper level of the council hall, erm...sir." If lizards could sweat, this one would have buckets of water underneath him. Was this some kind of test?!

But with a simple "Thank you!" he was off to one of the main "buildings" of the area.

"This doesn't make any sense....!"

His words echoed off the chamber walls, before the sound of a meaty slap was heard. In front of the long table, that had been used what seemed like months ago for the meeting, Engel sat. In his hands, he held a delivered message, before crumpling it up.

His eyes narrowed as he nervously touched a hand up to the mask on his face. "Why would they be excavating those ruins..... that would require them to...?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 24, 2005 11:23 am

There was a soft tap on the door of the room. It was followed by Dearc, opening the door a creak and sneaking a quick suspicious glance in either direction before opening the door all the way. The movement had been really subtle, though Engel would probably have noticed it, should he have looked up from his musings.

It was just that the last time he'd poked his head into a chamber, everyone had been dead...this wasn't an experience he cared to repeat.

"Are you snout deep, Engel? Want me to come back at a more convieniant time?" All in all Dearc wasn't sure what to make of his...brother? There were certain aspects of his nature that told him to distrust all this, another part of him just embraced it for what it was. And the whole of him was completely unsure...about the mask.

That fear ran deep, was hard to have "brotherly affection" when said person was wearing a mask that changed like that.
