The red form doesn't move.

From a distance, it seems, she can hear someone speaking. Something familiar...light and shadows pass betweeen her shut eyes. She wishes they would stop, they're making her dizzy. She almost gets the energy to command them to stop, she's a princess, and cannot be treated like this...but she finds that she can't open her muzzle. The world is so hot...so hot...she isn't back home, is she? Kiu and Makadari, are they here? Mwali...and Jua?

Something painful erupts in Mwezi's skull.

Jua is not coming back. Jua is dead. Dead....

She can suddenly hear the words of the adolescent quite clearly amidst the pouring rain, and the squalls of the child near her muzzle. Dhyn is trying to curl up pathetically close to Mwezi, the only heat left to her, even if she doesn't have much energy yet. She hasn't eaten in so long that she's become mere skin and bone, a frightful sight for a child.

Mwezi recognizes that voice. Kitwana. Why is he out here? It frightens her with an intensity she had previously not known she could even feel...for if he's here, he was sent by Makadari, and Makadari would kill her, as a deserter. Perhaps even worse than Jua. She shakes, trying to raise her head, and failing. "Ki - Kitwana....Jua...cub..." She whispers, still partially delirious.

Fumi bounced back off the head of the Lion. He flittered his wings before opening them once more after realizing she still wasn't walking from the pouring rain. "Talk?" He coaked his head hopefully. Perhaps there was hope for this one yet.

"Jua's cub? Yes, I believe you have it. What's wrong, Princess, too idle to feed it? Too idle to feed yourself?" Again, Kitwana spoke with a sneer, cherishing this victory over one who had humiliated him, stood by as he was beaten, cared not at all whether he lived or died. How did she like it, the feeling of her ribs protruding through her skin? The feeling of dirt caked over her once sleek pelt? The knowledge of humiliation. It was the latter he truly wanted her to feel.
He would not let her die, no, he wanted her indebted to him, humiliated that a slave had the power of saviour over the pure-blooded Firekin princess. He wanted to see her grovel.

Eyes quickly flickering over, and dismissing, the cackling bird, the crying cub, and his young companion in the escape, Kitwana lowered his head to hover close to Mwezi's ear, muscles straining visibly along his back, he too was half-starved.
"My dear princess, are you hungry? Do you want a slave to fetch you some food?"

A mouse skitters across the ground. It is young, and unaware of the constant danger around it. It could be stepped on by an elephant or snatched away by a bird, or wind up as a plaything for some young cub. But it doesn't know this and runs around in search of food.

(I haven't put the mouse in a specific location, so anyone who wants to interact with it can...)

Cubi
Roho tilted her head as a natural reaction when listening to the great lion speak. His voice... there was something about his voice.

"When you are a bird or an antelope, life is quite a challenge. And when you're of my size, you see the world from a whole new perspective. You never know who's friend or foe... but I sense you are friend. And a friend is welcome in this land that is not of my own..."

"The life of a traveler is nice, Mufasa... but I have no where to stay. Because this one is always someone's next lunch or a little one's play toy... Even the ones like me taunted me because of how I look. But I forgive them, even though they chased me away..." she was slowly remembering her home and so called family...

"Where are you from, great one? Do you have.. family waiting?"

((*snugs her finally alive again, computer* Sorry about that.. Cubi, Youko. @_@; I've learned my lesson not to try to fix my own computer though.))

-His eyes settled upon her, he listened with soft interest, trying to imagine things as she said.. though sadly falling a little short. It must be remarkably different, to live ones life worrying everyday who you could approach. Very troublesome. His thoughtfully frown however disolved as her question was asked, and he motioned lightly with one massive paw towards a speck in the distance along the horizon, half hidden by the lines of rain.-

"I have family and many friends back at home.. Those that rely on me to take care of them. It can be a little hard at times, but it's something I do with pride... and it brings me joy when I see the young cubs grow large and happy.. or the females content with their lives."

-Cocking his head a little thoughtfully he turned his attention to the expanse of land before him.- "Of course the entire Pridelands are my home as well. The home to many actually. Familys of antelope, herds of zebra, packs of wild dogs, and flocks of birds to name a few. We all share the best we can though because, well.. we simply couldn't do it alone. We all bring something to the land, and we all gain something in return. And while I cannot guarentee some hardship, as every life is full of them, I do openly invite you into the Pridelands. I think you might like it, even if only for a short visit."

Dama peeked from behind Kitwana, tilting her head to listen beyond the patter of the rain falling upon her companion's bared ribs, as well as her own. Not to mention the ground and the rock that surrounded them. Jua's cub? What had happened? She heard the sarcasticness in Kitwana's voice, and cowered slightly. Had they been followed? Dama shook her head, dashing away those thoughts. Instead she continued to patter towards the cub, who's cries set her at unease.

"Easy little one.... I do not know who you are but come here..." Dama nuzzled at the little one, knowing that the poor thing had to be completely soaked and cold. It had the red coat of a firekin, but she didn't care. The child couldn't be old enough to harbor the feelings of the Blood and therefore was still an Innocent. One to be protected if at all possible.

Dama held a somewhat cold stare for Mwezi. While she didn't remember Mwezi ever laying a paw on her, she knew the girl had never stopped any beatings, and never had a civil word for either her or Kitwana. Mistrust in what this lioness was doing here flooded through her, yet she remained silent. Kitwana would know what to do about this...

Zumaradi was stretched over a rock warning himself in the sun. He had eaten a few lizzards eariler and decided to rest while he digested his lunch. His tail swished lazily behind him in the grass.

Off in the distance he could see Pride Rock against the azure sky and a heard of zebra munching away with out a care. 'At least as carefree as they can be' he thought.

He rolled over onto his back and yawned closing his eyes he went back to cat napping

The words penetrate her mind, soak in much like the rain. The pure fury that suddenly blazes through the Firekin princess's veins allow her to raise her weak head, bubbling snarl coming out of her muzzle, although she's too weak to do much more. It hurts too much. There's one thing that still remains to Mwezi, that she may always retain, no matter what the cost - pride.

The bird flitting around her head recieves an ill-tempered snap. She longs to get Fumi in her jaws...perhaps it will provide a brief respite for her stomach.

Her eyes seem to have trouble focusing on Kitwana. At one point, they look as if they're focusing on him, directly...at another, they look as if they're going beyond him, to some point in the rain, as if he were no more than a boulder in the way. She hisses. How dare he speak to her like that! Her limbs do not hold her as she tries to rise, and fails. The cub beside her is starting to go still, which is even more frightening than it's continuous crying.

Her breath is low and gasping. "Get me out of here, boy," She snarls, "Or when I get up, you'll be the one regretting it. Shelter. Find me shelter."

As soon as Dama touches it, the red little cub tries to shift towards the juvenile. It's cries revive slightly, and it starts to shiver again. It attempts to nurse on the cub's footpaw, but gets no nourishment there.

Eyes narrowing at the red femme, Kitwana's voice grew cold, not even a trace of sarcasm remaining to taper out the pure hatred sparking from his wounds, his hunger, his life.
"And what would you do if I disobey, princess? Your daddy isn't here to beat me, nor your brothers. You alone, a weak, lazy princess stand against myself. I know the hunger you feel. I have known it for years, I can stand it. You are foolish and weak, for all your 'pure blood.' You are a stupid, idle girl, and I will not help you as a slave. I will never be commanded again. If you want to survive, you ask me, you beg me to save you. Foolish princess, did you think I would cower before you?"
Sorely tempted to turn his back on the selfish girl and leave her to die, the adolescent yet lingered. If she could ask him, he would save her, if only to see her in his debt. He would save her, then leave her to learn the harsh nature of life, as he had. He knew life's hardships, and revelled in seeing a beast of such high ego fallen.

Fumi cackled loudly at the snap and took off quickly, scared beyond reason. He recovered himself in a small spiny bush a few feet away, cowering from drench and fright. He frowned, after all he did for her all she could do was try and eat him. Last time he ever tried to help a lion. He flustered up his feathers in annoyance, and to keep his meager body heat. The way creatures treat him these days. After a few minutes of drying he bounced out of the bush, mostly out of curiousity, and stupidity. This time he was a lot more alert of what these lions may really want him for, a quick meal. He stayed a good distance from the Princess's head, watching with narrowed eyes and a stern silence.

Dama cringed back as Mwezi raised her head to snarl at them. Her paw raised, stretching towards a different direction in case of the need of flight. A bump at her paw made her look down. The cub had crawled to her and was now....trying to suck at her paw. Crouching down, she covered the cub with her own body, to shield it from the cold rain. Granted she wasn't much bigger than the little one, but hopefully it'd be enough. It was shivering nearly as much as she was..

A glance to Kitwana made her feel a bit bolder... He was standing up for them. That must mean that Mwezi was indeed in bad shape and therefore not going to strike out at them when they least expected it? Gently nuzzling at the cub, she wished there was more that she could do for it, other than keep close to it and hope to keep it warm with what little body heat she still held. Poor thing seemed to be nearly ice cold.... Dama wanted to call to Kitwana...wanted him to help her get the baby to the shelter, maybe something could be done then, but in his present state, she knew he was not someone to bug at the moment. She just stayed half huddled, half draped across the cub, watching the interplay between Kitwana and Mwezi.

Inwardly, she rages - but her weak form outside allows her to do nothing. She hisses at him, cursing, wishing only to beat him upside the head for his words - but she does not have the energy. Even the energy used up to curse him dwindles, and tears pinprick her eyes. She's so exhausted, so numb. But pride and the culture she grew up in will not allow her to beg. Instead, she settles her head back down to the muddy earth, too tired to hold it up any longer, and closes her eyes.

The cub continues it's shivering, the spasms tremoing through it's little body, sure proof that it's still alive. Finding no food to quell it's aching stomach, it merely curls up against Dama, pitifully glad for the warmth. It's cries start to dwindle into weakness again, eyes shutting tight.

((I have no idea where you guys are... so Kiyowe's just gonna be wandering somewhere around you guys. sweatdrop Find her! xp ))

Ignoring the rain, Kiyowe padded leisurely through the grass with a large chunk of zebra meat between her jaws. She felt like having some time alone, so she took her food to eat away from the rest of the pride. She stopped under a tree somewhere, and teared off a piece of the meat. She closed her eyes and chewed slowly. Her ears twitched. What was that...? She had definitely heard something. ... She did hear something... right? Someone's voice...

Eyes narrowing to mere slits at Mwezi's foolish pride, Kitwana turned his back on the princess. They were near the rocky outcrop now, near enough for him to take Dama and the tiny cub to shelter and leave the stupid royal to think for a while. The sensation of being abandoned, triumphed over, by a mere slave could perhaps shock the girl into her senses. Perhaps they could wait until she knocked herself out with her own stupidity and cold, and drag her there? That seemed most appealing, avoid the arrogance and stupidity pouring out of her mouth. He liked peace and quiet much better than having to listen to stupid girls blather on.

Padding back the the juvenile and her new little friend, the former slave nosed Dama away from the cub, grasping it in his jaws and heading for the rocks only a short walk away.
Looking back over his shoulder at Mwezi, he shot her a quick glare. Even with his freedom he had to clean up after that damn family and their mistakes. Typical.

Dama nudged the little one as she heard it start to quiet down. "Hey now....don't quiet down. Keep letting us know you're still with us." She knew that it couldn't be good if the little one completely silenced, and looked towards Kitwana with worried eyes. They had to do something, and fast. She didn't care about Mwezi at the moment, but this little cub was innocent of the crimes commited by its caretaker and lineage. She was determined not to let it die.

Dama was taken aback when Kitwana nosed her away to take hold of the cub. So he'd been thinking similarly to herself. She quickly skittered out of his way, shaking her head to get rid of the rain that seeped into her eyes. Once able to see clearly, her vision somewhat restored, she weakly began to patter after him. Her strength was fading fast, but the rocks were so close.... She was so cold. With the cub gone, she felt somehow colder. A violent shiver ran through her overly slim body, halting her for a moment. But determination kept her going. It wouldn't be long before she was up in the shelter of the rocks. Then maybe she'd be able to get warm....and help the little one. Her own hunger wasn't on her mind anymore, perhaps she couldn't feel her stomach any longer, her body having grown accustomed to the pain, and numbed itself.
