mipcy Have any of you guys had 4 people collapse at one competition before? Competition... no... parade... yes. xd It was 3 1/2 miles long and the weather was absolutely horrible. It was hot and humid, and it was sprinkling. We stayed at attention while marching the entire time and my shoulder was so damn sore whee

Tala Kaze But that's for concert season. We have one more game left... unless we make playoffs, which is rather doubtful. But the last game is our big rivalry game, so it's all good. Dont doubt your football team whee there were tons of times where everyone was sure some school was gonna kick our a**, but they showed up everyone. Now we're in the playoffs, something no one had seen coming.

Quote: Yeah, that's basically what happens. Honors band is so small that our BD basically lets anyone into it (like I said, we've got about 27 people). The only exception is freshman - she rarely lets freshman join it (there's only two this year, a percussionist and an alto sax, both of which we kinda needed). Other than that, just about anyone can join. And then she complains when we suck. Gah. I love my BD, but sometimes she makes me wonder.... But yes, I taught myself tenor. 3nodding I was so glad I listened in fifth grade when they taught how to put reeds on.... XD Aye. That sucks. sad Our BD is pretty wicked. He's really quite nice, but sometimes he can get easily frusterated when we don't do what we're told. One time he even refused to teach us because no one was paying attention. People kept talking amoungst themselves and we weren't doing our best. It looks kinda confusing... I watch some of the sax people put on their reeds and it seems to take quite a while. Apparently there's more to it than I had thought. whee I'm so stressed out cuz' auditions are this thursday for the flute section whee I'm not quite ready, but then I feel sorry for all my friends who are mostly in the clarinet section. Their audition is tomorrow during band. If you're bad enough, there's even a chance you might not make it into any of the bands. eek

sydneyscivit RinoaHeartilly Your band sounds a bit like mine! whee We all pretty much know our music as well, and our drumline memorizes all their music. The piccs have to memorize their music as well, we don't get to use the special flip folders u can put on ur arms ><;;; Though we're required to have the flip folders, we don't use them out on the field. Every band that we've seen so far using them though has had a SERIOUS case of flute droop. xd Ick, I hated having a flutist friend. That thing was so uncomfortable. I memorized my stands music in high school (even though I didn't have to) just to avoid using one.... RinoaHeartilly Our marching season is almost over as well. Today would have been the last game for us, BUT WHITMER WON!!!! xd YAY!!!!!!!!!! We're goin' to the playoffs! Screw St. John and their 9-1 record. (which is now 9-2 btw 3nodding ) Even the newspaper was against us. They predicted that St. John would win, but they were wrong xp Yeah, we won our game too. I don't know what happens now though... We only lost one game, but so did another team in our conference and theres another team whos undefeated. I know we don't have practice on monday, lol. It looks pretty hard to hold them things on your arm like that (the flip folders) Congrats on winning your game biggrin We get to leave on saturday at like 11 something in the morning and we get to ride in these really nice buses and we won't get back to the school until like 12:30 at night xd It's gonna be so much fun... I can't wait!!!!!! 3nodding blaugh

Miangel Well, I think we could be on our way to having the flute problem resolved. ^^ I was talking to another one of the flute players in my class this morning, and apparently she was having the same frustrations I was. So we decided to go to our BD and talk to her about it, and what we're going to do (probably) is start having mandatory sectionals Wednesday mornings that the other girl and I will lead. Kind of drastic (or so it will seem to them), but when half of a ten-person flute section isn't pulling their weight... it's a problem. They're going to have to deal with it. Eh, it's not too drastic. Besides, it's for their own good! They should practice on their own if they have to ask stupid questions like 'what's a Db' They should be grateful that you're taking your precious time to help them with such elementary problems. xd

Zibeto I play flute, and this is my fourth year of it. I really enjoy it but I dont really like the other flutes, most of them are really snotty, one outright told me that I shouldn't play the flute cause I'm a guy. I only really get along with two of the other flutes, and one of them is the other male flutist. We also have this annoying trombone player and nobody likes him. Last years band teacher through a chalkboard eraser at him sweatdrop Well, if it makes you feel any better, people have told me that I shouldn't play bari sax, 'cause I'm a girl and therefore can't get the dang thing across the parking lot. However, that was when I had a sprained wrist. Most of the really good flute players I know are guys. Don't let your band director discourage you. And on the flip-folder thing, I actually really like my flipfolder. Maybe it's just me, but I find them really comfortable.

That stupid stereotype that says 'the flute is an instrument for girls' needs to die stressed 3nodding xd

Thanks, it's no big deal for me when I get bugged about playing the flute from other kids, but when it's from the kids in the band it really pisses me off stressed and I agree, the steroe type of the flute being a girls instrument is stupid and needs to stop.

RinoaHeartilly It looks kinda confusing... I watch some of the sax people put on their reeds and it seems to take quite a while. Apparently there's more to it than I had thought. whee It's not so much that it's difficult or confusing... it's more that if you do it the wrong way, your reeds can split really fast, and they're kind of expensive. (The Vandorens I have were 21 dollars for a box of five.) We've got two guy flute players, both seniors. One of them I don't really know, but the other guy is really cool. I was playing a Zelda song on my flute the other day and he was like, "That's so awesome!" and started playing this other Zelda song. It was so funny. XD We give him crap sometimes about being a guy in an all-girls section (last year and the year before he WAS the only guy), but we've never meant any of it.

Zelda is wicked xd It was definately my fav nintendo 64 game. I've never beaten it, though i liked the world, characters, and storyline. The music was really good too. I have all the songs on my comp xd

We were SO close about a month ago... we were ahead the ENTIRE game and lost in the last forty seconds. >.< It was really disappointing.

I've only split one reed so far this year, though - partially because I'm careful with them, partially because they're high-quality. At least they're cheaper than oboe reeds... my friend spends 8 bucks on one of those.... I have all the Zelda songs on my computer, too. XD I love it.

RinoaHeartilly It looks pretty hard to hold them things on your arm like that (the flip folders) They aren't hard the hold... just uber uncomfortable. I want to burn them all.... even though they'd release toxic gasses, lol. I'll make the percussionist do it. o.O RinoaHeartilly Congrats on winning your game biggrin We get to leave on saturday at like 11 something in the morning and we get to ride in these really nice buses and we won't get back to the school until like 12:30 at night xd It's gonna be so much fun... I'm excited because that means we'll have a nice over night trip.
