I wouldn't have known the difference either. It actually took me a while to understand what was happening as I had no idea about Geisha life at all. Very interesting for me.

Now you should read the book! xd
Oh, another small criticism was that the main three characters were all played by Chinese women. lol. But the director defended himself by saying he picked the best actresses to play the part well.

I've read the book at least twice and have to say that I'm glad I only piad matinee price for the movie. I'm having trouble exactlly putting my finger on what was wrong with it, but I was very dissatisfied with the fact that almost none one the "LIFE" was spoken about. It was gappy and felt extremely rushed to me.

Wow, I guess I'm going to have to go out and find this book and read it. You all have me curious now. I'm just not a fast reader so I usually just don't do it. I wish I was faster so I could get all the Harry Potter books read, etc. I just don't find the time.

I wish I was faster so I could get all the Harry Potter books read, etc. I just don't find the time. Well, I'm not a fast reader either, but progress is progres! Even if I read a page or two before bed, I still wind up finishing books! And books are a good thing for me to have on weekends when we're out of town and without internet, or when we're driving out of town. I don't think I ever use a spare moment during the day to read if I have internet as an alternative.

WickedUmmagine Now you should read the book! xd I have to say, Amazon had just enough to make the book seem more interesting to me than it ever has before. It never seemed like my type of story, but Amazon may have persuaded me otherwise WickedUmmagine Oh, another small criticism was that the main three characters were all played by Chinese women. lol. But the director defended himself by saying he picked the best actresses to play the part well. IMHO Chinese women are prettier... maybe that was part of certain actresses appeal to the director, as well?

I will agree that the women IMO were beautiful that played the 3 main parts.

simlizzy IMHO Chinese women are prettier... maybe that was part of certain actresses appeal to the director, as well? xd I used to wish I was Japanese instead of Chinese. I thought Japanese were prettier. It's great to hear that's not a universal opinion though! And great so see such beautiful Chinese women in that movie!

I have the book and I would love to see the film.
I haven't actually managed to get round to reading it yet though.:p
When I was reading the Harry Potter books, I finished them all in one sitting each. :p
If I find a good book then I find it hard to put it down. biggrin I take after my Dad that way. We are both very fast readers! :p

We watched Minority Report with Tom Cruise on Sunday. (Well, I mean.. Tom Cruise wasn't here watching it WITH us.. you know what I mean!)
Jason had seen it before. I hadn't. I really liked it, and would recommend it for those who haven't. It's set in the future, and it's a good movie to think about the pros and cons of having things changed this way in the future. And it gets you thinking about fate versus choice, which is a good thinker. smile
