Another puzzle done and Regula found himself wandering up the stairs towards bed. He couldn't completely ignore his evening routine though, and it was only after his shower that he finally managed to settle into his bed and before he knew what had happened, he was out. Really, if he'd been aware of the entire process he would have been impressed with himself as it normally took him a small amount of time to silence his occasionally conversational mind.
What he wasn't expecting to experience however, was an exceptionally vivid dream.
Unfortunately, or was it fortunately, no one was there but him to witness his choice of attire. Not that he looked bad in pyjama bottoms, but he generally preferred to be in slightly more clothing when it came to being out in public. Perhaps he'd err on the side of 'fortunate' for this one, as no sooner had he 'opened' his eyes, than he felt the familiar lurching sensation. Wasn't this the point where he was supposed to jolt back to the waking world? Generally speaking it was, but it seemed that on this occasion his mind intended to go on an adventure.
The result?
Well, he fell for what seemed like an endless amount of time, deeper and deeper into an abyss until he finally seemed to hit something. It hadn't hurt, and it seemed in those moments the myth of dying when you hit the ground went out the window. Convenient really as he considered himself a touch too young to pass away, but now that he had landed he afforded himself the opportunity to look skyward to where he had been previously. Whether he liked it or not, he was trapped down here as any attempts to identify a pathway up failed. He'd never seen a ravine quite so smooth, intriguing really, but he was in a dreamland and he really shouldn't have been surprised that his own mind had come up with something so particular.
Alas, it wasn't long before something appeared behind him, the clearing of a throat indicated that he wasn't alone and slowly he turned round. Having never encountered the strange spectre at the previous year's festivities, the Star Child was unknown to him. Regardless of who they might have been to another though, Regula didn't feel terribly threatened, whatever purpose this entity served...it wasn't to hurt him.
However it was doing something and that gave him some cause for concern.
In the short months he'd been who he was, he'd grown suspicious of magic as anything he didn't understand tended to result in him exploding. Fortunately his initial instincts were right, when the entity had finished rifling through its own pockets it cast the glitter into the sky and then...well, he could only blink in surprise as he was lifted up onto a peculiar platform. A moment later and a considerable number spawned above his head, some more out of reach than others, but they all led up towards the exit.
Really, his mind had decided that he needed mental exercise? He got plenty of physical exercise on a daily basis and now it wanted more from him? He groaned internally, but if he was to get anywhere then he was going to have to climb.
What followed would have been comical for him if he'd been a spectator. He fell more times than he cared to admit, plunging down towards the ground and landing with a tame thumb. Every now and then he'd miss another jump and slam in to a lower platform. His progress wasn't as quick as it normally should have been and a few mental expletives may have been uttered as he gradually made his way back to the top. Had anyone challenged him on his condition by the end of this he would have conceded that from a dream point of view, he was thoroughly exhausted.
He persevered though and eventually he did manage to reach the top, slamming his elbows on to the top platform, and then the ravine with a muffled groan.
Who would have thought that three platforms would have been so bloody hard?
Perhaps he needed to evaluate the mental gymnastics thing.
Just as his feet touched upon the ravine though the world around him disappeared and with a small rush of air, he found his eyes open. Disorientated, but otherwise warm and safe, he was still at home. That had been one of his odder dreams in his adult life, that was for sure, but based on the clock it hadn't been that -
And then he saw it, on his dresser rested a small bottle; glimmering just a touch in the dimly lit room it looked rather familiar. Urgh, his mind too dulled, he found the capacity to grunt and dismiss it as he rolled back over and rested his head back on to the pillow again. He was asleep in seconds, long before his normally sharp mind would have pointed out that the bottle had never been there before and all the doors in this house were locked. He'd been in for a doubletake in the morning that was for sure!Words: 865
