"Melvin.." after quite a few rotations, he finally tried to gently put a hand on the back of one of Melvin's hands to get him to stop a moment as each revolution felt like more and more anxiety pouring out. "Man... just..." He wilted.

He stopped but didn't look up. "Go tell the others to get ready to head out."

"Okay... but you'd better not go anywhere. We need you," and there was an edge of desperation in his tone as he pulled away to do as asked. He turned towards the group and gave a sharp whistle to try and gain the majority's attention before shouting over them. "GET READY, WE'RE HEADING OUT!"He moved over to start a line behind Melvin.

Rep glanced around at Al barking orders at everyone like he was ******** in charge.
And crossing his arms went back to doing ******** nothing at all.

Oliver had scrambled back to shore, grateful for Chris's presence at the water's edge. Something more than the added exertion was making him feel ill, an unmistakable sense of loss filling him with guilt. Unlike Zeke, he needed the hand, accepting the assistance until he was back upright. He shot Chris a grateful expression, but didn't trust his voice just yet. While Melvin and the young lady went over to the tree, he took a minute to get his thoughts together. Apparently that was all they needed, because the next thing he knew another hunter was telling them it was time to go. "Wait, they found it?" He asked Chris weakly.

The dragging, roiling heaviness of the sick grief made it difficult to concentrate on anything, but Jordan had heard the last part of what Kim had said, and he was sure it was not her. It was a forcible reminder that as much as he still felt the residue of his other self's emotions for his child, Creation was still a Legacy, inhuman and capable of being dangerous.
Kim fell, and Melvin moved to check on her, and then Seren was crying over the ... the body. Was Kim dead? He couldn't tell. He would feel more distress over it later, maybe, but for now, everything was grey and slow and awful, and nothing penetrated the veil of guilt and grief.
Melvin had the artifact, and Al was shouting that it was time to go. Jordan shook himself in a vain attempt to clear his head, and walked over to where Melvin stood, laying a hand briefly on his shoulder in concern.

He didn't look at Jordan either, but knew it was him.
"See who wants to take Kim back home." He said.

The longer they sat there, the longer the pause in witty conversation, the more Soleil's easy smile began to slip away until she was left staring up at the tree with somber features. Missing Zane's question and comment entirely. It felt like a huge weight had settled on top of her, within her. Something squeezing around her chest until it ached, but not hindering her breathing. For a long moment she was silent, and then she was rolling up on her knees to climb slowly to her feet again, one arm moving to rub her hand up and down the other. "I don't like it here." It wasn't pretty anymore. This place gives me the creeps, and my chest, it hurts...< Grief.> Her weapon provided in a deep rumble. Her lips pressed into a thin line, the fingers of her free hand opening and closing restlessly. "What do you think they're doing up there?" She meant Melvin and the girl that had claimed responsibility for everything. She could see them up there, but she couldn't hear what they were saying. And then the girl went limp, falling to the ground like a puppet with her strings cut. Then there was loud, mournful yelling. Eyes going wide, Soleil reached for Zane, groping for something to hold onto. "Qu'est-ce qui s'est passé? Est-elle morte?"

Seren heard the call to gather. She stared down at her friend's body, still crying, but finally, she slowly got up. "I wont fail you, Kim. You did this so we could get that back to Atlantis. I've gotta make sure it does." She rubbed her face, eyes already red from crying.
She brushed Kim's cheek, then turned, eyes full of anger at the world as she stalked to join the others where she gathered. She looked them over, and waited, silent and aching.

"Right," Jordan said, and turned to move over to where Seren sat, holding Kim. Having a concrete task helped a little with the draining depth of the grief. He knelt down next to Seren. "Hey," he said quietly. "We need to take her back to the island. Do you want to help?"

Sitting on the wet sand, still trying to catch his breath, Henry had been watching the other's. Specifically Melvin, the blonde Life hunter who'd been running the mission. He'd gone up to the tree with the Sun girl who'd apparently started all this mess, and though he couldn't hear what they were saying, he could see that something wasn't right. It had him straightening up so he could see a bit better. "What do you suppose they're doing?" He asked Cami, glancing at her briefly before returning his attention to the group by the tree. And then he paled as he noticed the blood dripping from the girl's nose and that eerie green glow to her eyes. "...Somethings not right." He didn't need to hear to know that things weren't going well. Melvin looked anxious, and Kim just looked wrong. When she dropped he reached for the other trainee's hand. When Melvin came back down to the beach, Henry climbed back to his feet, but he couldn't seem to make them move. He felt stuck, overwhelmed.

It was like watching a disappointing season ender episode, one minute Terry was just catching his breath from swimming, the next Kim and Melvin were off to do who knows what. The life trainee was expecting some massive laser-light show but there was none. Instead, they were one artifact up and one sun hunter down.
At first, Terry simply thought Kim had fainted, he didn't blame her. Being on this island was draining. But then Seren started to cry and Kim wasn't moving. Maybe she was sleeping?
He hoped she was. Worse case she was in a coma but the people in the Life Labs should be able to stabilize her. Right? Terry made his way to where Kim was, with Seren and Melvin and one more.
He ignored the yelling instructions, promising to pay attention once he had Kim with him. "Why are you crying?" he asked Seren, thinking this to be some overreaction, not realizing, or more likely accepting that the Sun was dead.
He brought out the runic bandages, using them to wipe at the blood, "Hey, koibito, don't do an Asuka on me. You wouldn't like me doing a Shinji on you, would you?" he murmured.

Seren's eyes focused on Jordan for a long moment, trying not to look angry at him, because it wasn't his fault. He was in no way to blame. She'd have set fire to that damn tree though, willingly, but she suspected it would make things worse. She was about to speak when Terry came over. That had her trembling. Gods, her friends... Her poor friends. Why DID she get close to people? Bad things happened to them when she did. His question... made her shake. "Terry.... Terry. Her... heart isn't beating..." She'd been sure of that from when she held the body to her. She looked back at Jordan, and finally said, trembling with the emotions she was feeling, "I'm going to help take back the damned Artifact. It's what she... she did that for." Her fists clenched for a moment, then she said "But thank you for asking me. I just... have to make sure what she did pays off." She couldn't save her friend, so she'd do whatever it took to finish her task.

okay this was reaching a high level of sicking now. Seren was hurting, Melvin was hurting and now Terry. There was zero way she wanted to Burt him at any time. "No..no...". Soundless cries, no one could hear them. She watched as they all got ready to move on, and praised that strength even while wanting to soothe them all.
Yeah, not possible, but somehow she was still here. Did that mean she wasn't totally dead. Maybe it was like a weird deep death seeming coma? Who cared. She wanted to hug Terry and let him know she could hear him even if he could not sense her. What if she was like... Totally gone though. Cursed to watch all she loved and cared for come undone around her?
Yup this was high ranking messed up crap, and she deserved ever second of the torture. Hadn't her own hijacked voice said she abducted a whole flipping family?

The grief weighed down heavy on Rhys, and each time he tried to pull himself together he just lost it again and once again emptied his already empty stomach. He caught bits and pieces of what was happening--Melvin and Kim by the tree, Kim starting to talk funny (he didn't get to see because he was a little...busy), Melvin negotiating, and then what sounded like someone falling to the ground. In the brief pause that followed, the trainee managed to get a hold of himself enough to walk just a little closer to the tree to see what in the hell was going on.
It was dizzying still, and he had to focus so he didn't start blowing chunks again, but the scene he came to really didn't help. He'd only met her once before but the sight of her on the ground, lifeless and all, wrenched his gut, and Seren wailing wrenched it even more. If he could move any closer he would have, but he was already staggering from this distance. Any closer and he had a feeling he'd pass out so he just watched and waited until Al started shouted something about heading back out. Despite himself he couldn't help but feel relieved that he'd be getting away from this damned place...
Rhys made his way over to Seren though, clapping a hand on her shoulder when he finally got to her and offering what little comfort he could. He would have offered the same likely useless amount of comfort to the guy who was currently tending to Kim's dead body, but he couldn't even get close enough to do that. What in the hell was he even doing here?
And since he didn't know what to say that might have been any source of comfort for her, he turned his eyes to the guy with her. "If you're headin' back to the island take care of him, too," he said, nodding toward Terry. "Losing one's bad enough, if he stays there too long who knows else that ********' tree's gonna do."
