For a moment, Smol hesitated before gently clambering into Heliodora's hand. No, it wouldn't intentionally hurt them, but something in it's eyes suggested that it'd be more than happy to peck at their eyes for thinking they could take Heliodora away and upsetting Pax. With a small sigh, the tiny creature shook itself and flapped it's wings experimentally before resuming normal fluffage.

"Pups can still bite if they need to, m'dear," it muttered softly, the words meant for Heliodora's ears. After nuzzling her hand affectionately, Smol watched with some curiosity as the almost barbecued human gave Pax some sort of signal that the deer-thing copied. Of more interest though was this 'picture' thing that the soft-spoken human wanted of Pax.

Curiously, it leapt to Heliodora's lap before scrambling to Pax's body and climbing across and up until it was perched neatly in Pax's head-bits. One tiny paw petting the deer-thing, Smol turned it's head, trying to figure out what the human had done.

"Let me see," it demanded gruffly. "How'd you get Pax in there when the idiot is still here?" it asked, though the tone of it's voice was the friendliest yet and the way Smol called Pax an idiot was now more a term of endearment than an insult.

Let the other humans argue about deals. Heliodora was safe enough for the moment.

At the little bird thing's demand to see the picture, Autumn picked her phone back up, and turned the photo back to it. She offered her arm out, and zoomed in on the picture with a smile.

"So what happens is this phone takes all of the light in the area, and really quickly records it, so you have a physical memory of anywhere you've been!" It was more complicated than that, but a little birddog didn't need the details. Autumn found herself giggling a bit.

"If you hop on my shoulder, I'll take one of you, too!"

Frankly that didn't make Erin feel any better, at all. If everything was real, and they weren't dead, then they presumably weren't dreaming and it was real. Which meant monsters actually existed, magic existed and oh god Heliodora was actually missing a foot. Which meant she was here and not in bed, and just.

A small part of her, the one consumed by a desire for magic and all the stuff in video games to be real, cheered with delight. It was rather over shadowed by the impending fear that welled up in her, a byproduct of half a dozed smaller fears and issues. It froze her in her place, and smothered all of the wonderment and curiosity that tried to expand.

If there was magic... just what could she do with it? Turn into a dragon? Create monoliths of sand? Airbend? What were the limitations and extremes of it? All of these died in her throat as she hid some behind Asiya, shifting to every so lightly cling to the other's arm. It helped to keep her grounded, as much as she could be here.

If Pax wishes to read/hear Erin's internal struggle there. If not, feel free to ignore :3

Erin's arm curled around hers caused Asiya to smile. She then turned around, tried to flash her a reassuring expression, and then murmured a quiet, "Don't worry. I'll protect you as best I can." She knew no martial arts, of course, and she had never been very athletic, but hey -- that didn't mean she couldn't try. Erin was clearly afraid of what this other Ashdown could do, and if she felt safer behind someone then Asiya would do her best to keep her that way.

Her thoughts then turned to anyone involved in other Ashdown -- Pax, Sunny, Smol, or Heliodora . She looked to them and asked, "Will more stuff be happening or can we go home soon?" It was an honest question. Not that Asiya was eager to leave; she was more so keen on getting answers or learning something else, if anything.

Zac sighed. looking up from his attention to the sodden cat inside his hoodie at the sound of the most recent question. He rubbed at his eyes thinking rather hard on the fact that it seemed there was NO way out of his ‘Detective Dad’ going to DIE if they didn’t solve the missing kids,

“We have kids left to find, or at the least some of us need to find them so that Detective here …. well let’s just simplify and say I -personally- would like to see our Detective keep all his important parts. I don’t know if we can get out of here without them. Detective Jeremiah got sent here by… SOMEONE, after She tossed me here, to get the kids back.

Ok...yeah, maybe he was still ticked. Maybe

He moved closer, offering by way of pulling back the side of his Hoodie to let them pet the soggy cat within. “Here… I don’t know if that helps but his name is Mogget, I guess he followed some of us in here.”

That at least gave him some time to think too.

What was it that Heliodora had said too? Not… he thought at first that she’d said she COULDN’T leave but…
Shed said she’d been there… a long time.

He frowned. Her foot was more than perfectly healed too, time was funny but. He turned his head to look at Heliodora again, really looking at her though he wasn’t honestly sure he’d have any better luck. She was talking to Jeremiah willingly at least, but he had to try. He was just… tired. Anger wr

“Heliodora… Why is it that you… [bi] Why do you say you -have- to be here? … How long, How long, if you had to estimate, HAVE you been here.”

He deliberately dodged the word ‘think you have been here’, because he knew well enough he hadn’t thought the amount of time had passed that…apparently had before Jeremiah had appeared to be gifted umbrellas, and well, punched in the nose… set on fire.

Maybe getting his heart eaten would be something of a -break- for him if things kept going in that vein, was the bitter thought that chased behind.

"My name's Sunny," says Sunny, jamming her hands in her hood pockets. "Short for Ascencion."

Heliodora looks over to Mr. Watts. "I know where they are, but I haven't seen them for a long time. Usually, Pax or Smol tells me news of them," she says, petting the bird dog's feathered head. "And no, I didn't call you. It…" She pauses, tapping her fingers on her knee. "It could've been Doe, but I don't know why she would want to send you to me."

She smiles at Detective Mercer. "Yeah," she says. "I mean, no, please keep it, I don't need it anymore--and yeah, I've been here. For a really, really long time…" She looks to Pax, who says,

Our Heliodora

To Autumn, it continues,

"Well, s**t," says Sunny, "Some people think establishing a fair and even trade is open-ended! Bring them home and I'll tell you what I know; take responsibility for your actions and I'll answer three questions; bring me the cigarettes I like and I'll never lie to you. Yeah, super open ended." Leila gets a roll of violet eyes, Sunny having thought of something else. "I didn't even know Heliodora was here, I just know that--"

A warning growl from Pax.

"--Ask me later, on the other side," says Sunny.

Heliodora sighs. "I don't know. If Pax's 32,000 years old, I have been here a lot longer than he has. I have to be here because I--"

A sudden, groaning feeling of weight interrupts her; as the one hearing the words, Zac feels it, too. She clenches her hands in the moss around her, teeth gritted. "--I can't say," she says. "That's something I can't tell you."

The weight lifts. "But I can tell you that Adoelle and Michael are here, and there's a reason for all of this. You just have to find out without me helping." And finally, to Asiya, she says, "Smol can lead you home. He knows where the door is."

"Home!" Autumn dropped her arm, turning back to look at Heliodora. "No offense to the crazy party here, but please, god. I am SO READY to go home." She went over to Heliodora, and unprompted, gave the girl a hug.

"I know it's hard, being... alone. So take care of yourself, baby. While I'd prefer not to wind up here again... I hope I hear you're okay, somehow." Then she frowned.

"But seriously, take me home."

"Ascension, to ascend, to RISE...UP... so far NOTHING Ive seen from you seems to do anything that brings people up." Zac wrapped his arms around Mogget crankily.
"I'd say I'd give you the benefit of the doubt... but you can consider yourself in the s**t for offers to rip out hearts.
Smol... thanks for being cool, thank's for showing us a way out and, Heliodora, thatnks for being honest about what you can and can't answer... I'm out..."

Chris nodded at Helidora's reply, mulling it over. The other kids were at least around and alive and well, if Heliodora knew where they were (for the most part) it seemed less of an issue for the moment. Just the knowledge that they were around was fine for Chris and the fact that it was possibly Adoelle that had called had lessened the creepiness of the voice.

But it was time to go and Chris watched Autumn leave, figuring it was safe enough.

"I'd also like to leave but before I go," He twisted his hands for a second, then asked "If I ever end up here again, is it okay to visit you Heliodora?"

"So I follow the corgi-wren though a door and... that's it? I'm back in the regular Ashdown?" Leila crossed her arms, a bit ruffled by current events, but it was suddenly twice as difficult to grasp and process everything that just happened and what it could possibly mean now that she had been reminded of the real world. One rest of the missing kids apparently weren't part of anymore, just like Heliodora, but that was Jeremiah's lead to follow if he chose to.

"...Alright, let's go."

Wait, 32,000 freaking years??

Yes. Thirty-two thousand years.

Rabbit hung on that little tidbit himself, which was why he wasn't the first to rush the bird and get the hell out of here. It wasn't long before he forced his questions away, sure that answers would find him even if he didn't want them to, and held out his hand to hopefully catch Heliodora's attention.

"Me too. Please."

Jeremiah glanced to Zac, something in his chest clenching tightly. The young man - his son in everything but blood - was clearly shutting off and he took a step forward to stop him, to catch him, but he stopped himself and stood in place.

For now ... maybe a little space. They could see each other again back home, back in Ashdown.

The detectives fingers flexed around the umbrella. He was going to keep it, much like he kept the calla lily. Perhaps because they were both inexplicably tied to everything that was going on. "Thank you." Again. For the umbrella.

There were questions on the tip of his tongue that fell away the moment that Heliodora seemed to crumple under the weight of something. As if some force did not want her to answer. Blue-green eyes glanced towards Algie before they went back to the young woman, to Heliodora. "If I need to talk to you again, I can find you here?" A hand was raked through silver hair, pieces of it falling into his face. Possibly a sensitive subject because that meant he would actively be looking for a way to come here, to other ashdown. "Come to this place and you'll be here."

He had a suspicion that there was little to be done, for the moment, for her to be out of this place. This was her demesne, her will. Briefly he felt it again, that feeling of something bubbling up, but he pressed it away. "I have to look for the others." Michael, Doe ... Jeremiah was inexplicably tied to all of this now. If anything, Zac's frustrations and his attempts to get him out of the deal with Sunny reinforced that even more. Algie's threats about leading him around by his belt loop also crossed his mind.

The detective, for now, was not even going to bring up bringing them home. It was something he was not giving up of. For more than just the obvious reasons.

Tory blinked at Sunny's statement. If this wasn't a dream as the dark haired girl was saying, then what was it? The notion that all of this was really happening was almost too much for him to comprehend. And yet it would be so cool (in a kinda scary sort of way) if it was in fact real. Especially the presumed forest spirit Pax and the small thing Smol and the voices he'd heard when Pax had asked them to close their eyes and listen. It almost reinforced his personal beliefs in a way, that everything had a spirit. And it added the possibility that magic might be real too.

He nodded at Alexis and gave them a small, warm smile, keeping his ear on the conversations going on around them and watching as Autumn took her selfie with Pax. It sounded like Sunny had more information for them all, if she could be convinced to reveal it. Cigarettes sounded like an easy enough key to get the answers he wanted -- and there were more questions for every answer he got.

"Home?" Tory heard Autumn mention going home. He patted Rabbit's shoulder and placed his other hand reassuringly on Brie's shoulder. "We can go home if we want!" He wasn't sure he was ready to go back just yet. But there was little more information he could get here, if Pax's menacing growl was any indication.

Releasing his companions, he stepped forward. "It was nice to meet you, Pax. I hope I get to see you again someday. Heliodora, you too -- I hope you're happy here. The other kids too." He then turned to Smol. "I think I'd like to go home now."

A wave of relief spread over her when she heard they could go home. It was a nice feeling to know they wouldn't be stuck there -- for whatever reason. Asiya took note of what Sunny said, and she would make a point to get her special cigarettes. "What kind?" The last thing she needed was to get the wrong kind and offend the peculiar girl.

She then glanced back at Erin and produced a pen from the pocket of her sweater. Most of the time, Asiya didn't even need to think about grabbing a pen. She always managed to have one on hand for some strange reason. Odd, but hey; she wasn't complaining. Clicking the pen down, she then wrote a phone number on Erin's hand, if she allowed it. "You and I should hang out sometime after all this. It could be fun, plus it's always nice to make new friends." With another click, she closed the pen and slipped it back into her pocket.

Hazel eyes then gazed over at the strange creature named Smol. "I'm ready to head out," she told them, hands slipping into her pockets. She was eager to get home. To try and make sense of everything. "Thanks very much." She then smiled warmly and thought of her small, simple apartment. While it wasn't much, it seemed like a palace to Asiya now, and she couldn't wait to return.
