Feeling her face heat at her mistaken identification of Piko's gender and Niko's compliment, Rhei ducked her face, trying to hide behind her braid as she put her book back in her bag. You're only going to need it later, said her common sense, but it didn't matter. Blushing made her turn the red of tomatoes, and she didn't want anyone to see that. When she was done, she looked back at the Togekiss and the Togepi before it. "My mother and father raised a Ralts alongside my brother and I. It's hard for me to see pokemon as instruments or possessions when I grew up with one who was an equal. We even called her sister. So... I don't know. I feel like I have a bit more experience figuring out what they feel than most people." Rhei ran a hand over her braid. After a moment, her head tilted; she tried to listen harder to the distant flying pokemon. "Piko seems really kind, but - do Togekiss usually make that sound? I thought pokemon usually said the name of their species."
"Bell," said Rima, and Rhei noticed that she, too, had tilted her head at Piko.
A strange thought flickered through Rhei. Is she... Mirroring me? Almost every action that Rhei had witnessed so far had been near-human, and it had appeared that most of the emotions had been, too. Anger, guilt, wonder... The sister she remembered had always been just as perceptive of emotions, but Rhei had always put it down to the Kirlia being a psychic type. But maybe it wasn't the case - maybe all pokemon were as emotionally intelligent as her sister had been. Piko was certainly exhibiting something right now, seemingly trying to comfort the Togepi. Rhei felt so ignorant - had she really come here with such low expectations of those who would be her companions?
Suddenly uncertain of her goals, Rhei crossed her arms, looking on as Piko cooed to the Togepi. Pokeballs were coming at them from all directions, and Rhei turned back to look at Niko. "You don't want to catch one?" she asked.
FrostyPeaches The Ralts (who grew into a Kirlia) referenced here died before Rhei left Hoenn~ Yay backstory. XD

As Cécile rolled onward, following the great procession, Cersie's little ears would perk up excitedly every now and agian. He listened carefully, hoping to hear more than the incandescent chattering. At least no one was screaming now. He waited, and then, there it was. A tiny peeping, like that of a baby bird lost somewhere in the grass. With all this noise and movement, the poor little thing was probably terrified! He searched with worried eyes, preying that no one would accidently step on what ever was making the cries for help. Cersie was the one that found it, he rolled forward to find his tiny deer curled up around them. Cecile smiled as one chirruped pleasently as Cersie gave it's face a gentle lick. Togepi. They were no more than helpless babies, he had thought correctly, though his smile dropped as more and more people crowded around, scaring the two siblings once more. "Shh, shhhh, don't cry dear babies. It's alright. Here, maybe this will help?" He reached around, digging through his bag form his medicine box. Pulling it out, he selected a small capsule that held ten or so small brown balls of compressed herbs. It sad a bitter taste, so he had rolled them in powdered sugar to counteract that. He dropped two into his hand and reached down, offering them to the Togepi as they shifted nervously, trying not to cry. "Its a relaxant. No one is here to hurt you, I promise." One of the Togepi eyed the sugar-coated balls nervously, but eventually popped it into its mouth. Chewing thoughtfully, the Togepi looked up at Cécile and peeped when it was gone. He smiled and gave it a gentle pet, stroking its head. It didn't take long for the herbs to take effect. In fact, they worked so well, the Togepi was soon nodding off. "Would you like to come with me?" Cécile asked, still petting him, but the tiny thing had already fallen asleep. Pokeball go!  Preferences: Swirled, Spotted

 Magnolia's eyes sparkled again. "Uwah, Togepi!" she cried, clasping hands before her bosom. "They're so cute! I would love—"
Just as the girl began to fumble about for a Pokeball, she halted upon realizing the only one she had was used on her Victreebel. Grimacing, she stared down at the red and white sphere and wondered to herself about the Grass-type inside.
M-maybe it is... friendly? she thought, thumbing the button at the ball's center. Maybe if I...
On a chance and chance alone, the lavender-haired girl clumsily threw the ball and cried, "C-c'mon out!"
From the Pokeball, the Victreebel materialized. It blinked a few times before turning to her and, awkwardly after a moment of study, it looked as though it was smiling with its rather pointy pearly white. From its garish screams, it sounded almost like... laughter? Magnolia backpedaled a step and help up an arm before herself defensively.
Gurk...! she thought to herself. It... I think... I think it likes me!

Raven heard the pop of a Pokemon emerging from it's Pokeball and turned his head from the Togepi to look .... and was instantly on guard, placing himself between the newly emerged Victreebel and the Togepi babies, growling low, his fur crackling as he transformed from a calm, cutesy, baby loving Shinx, into an aggressive, defensive thunder demon ... at least in the eyes of those nearby anyway. "Shiiiiiinx" he rumbled, electricity crackling dangerously near to the Victreebel and it's trainer.... ever since almost being eaten himself when he had been weak, injured and abused, he held onto a lot of hatred for Victreebel. Becka startled, she wanted to befriend the Togepi but Raven had suddenly turned into a Pokemon she hadn't seen before, "Raven.. Raven what?" she muttered, moving close to put a hand on him but getting a mild electric shock, almost a warning to 'stay out of this issue' "Raven! Stop this right now! she said, frowning, wondering what on earth had gotten into the normally mild Shinx.

The Victreebel blinked; the hostility directed his way completely going over the Grass-type's head (or, well, what supposedly existed of it). He tilted his body fully in curiosity, tongue lolling out at one side, as he tried to determine where all the excitement was. Or maybe he just found the Shinx or Togepi tasty looking; it was hard to determine when there was a string of drool dripping from the pink member licking the rim of his mouth.
Magnolia jumped at the sight of the Shinx sparking with electricity; a small cry coming from her when she laid eyes upon it. She hugged hands to her bosom; her new Victreebel and now this Shinx skyrocketing the fear in her. Asphodel shuddered as well, but this wasn't emotion channeled from her trainer; it was genuine fear as well. Something forced the fourteen year old forward; some untraceable sense of security when she took a look into those bulbous eyes of the Grass-type and saw nothing but some, sort of, hint of love. Sort of. Kinda hard to tell. Maybe he was just in love with the idea of eating something.
"D-don't hurt him!" Magnolia cried, placing herself between the Shinx and Victreebel just as the Electric-type had did with the Togepi. "H-he's not going to hurt anyone or anything. N-not anymore, I'll make sure of it!"

Becka was angry with Raven now, this poor girl was obviously scared, and Raven was scaring her more. "Raven, that is quite enough!" she said sharply, fighting through the shock of the electricity from him to grab him by his scruff and drag him backwards "I'm so sorry, i ...he was abused by a trainer before i found him, i don't know much of what he went through" she said to the girl, not excusing his behaviour but explaining it. Raven was bristling with rage . and also a fair bit of fear, sparking towards the Victreebel even more when the horrid thing licked it's lips, he certainly wasn't about to let it near the Togepi babies, that was for sure. He squealed when his scruff was grabbed and sent a bolt towards Becka until his eyes focussed on her... and he cringed, all fight gone out of him when he realised he'd hurt her. He lay belly flat to the floor, ears pinned back, he hadn't meant to hurt Becka, he would never .. ever hurt her on purpose, he was just so scared and angry around Victreebel, it brought his mind back to the time before Becka, the time he didn't want to remember. Becka cried out when a stronger shock of electricity went through her from Raven, she knew he hadn't meant it but that had hurt, she'd grown used to the mild shocks over the time she'd had him but never had he directed it towards her properly like that. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, clamping down on the pain, she was a Healer, she could deal with this, She went to her Shinx when he flattened "shh.. it's ok, i promised you, no one will ever hurt you again, and now it's been caught ... there's nothing to worry about from that Victreebel, it's trainer said so" Se hugged him to her, tears spilling from her eyes in heartbreak for him and what he went through She turned her head up to the Victreebel's trainer "I'm so sorry, i thought he was over the trauma from before... i guess seeing the Victreebel ... especially seeing it gobble up that Dunsparce, was too much, i promise he won't do it again .... will you Raven?"

Magnolia winced, but also looked in awe and admiration. She admired Becka's tenacity in enduring the hostile sparks from the Shinx. Taken by her thoughts, there was a lengthy pause before the girl shook her head and pursed her lips. "It's... I-it's okay," she told the trainer. "I understand completely. He's just scared, I mean..." She gave a glance to the Victreebel who lolled his tongue the other way, completely depraved of any emotion save, well, whatever the heck he was feeling. "So am I... This big guy hasn't made the best impression on the group and, erm—"
The Grass-type was now swaying. Why was he swaying. Stop swaying.
Magnolia swallowed and shook her head. "He just needs some training, that's all. But the Pokeball made him relatively tame. Look..." The lavender-haired girl felt herself regretting the very moment she extended a hand over to the Victreebel, but when she laid a palm on his fleshy hide and patted him gently without repercussions like losing a finger, that's when she realized he really was friendly. At least, to her. She still wasn't liking the look in his eyes toward the scrambled eggs Togepi and Shinx.
"I hope you're okay," she said to Becka. "Raven, he's really shaken up, isn't he? I'm sorry if..." She turned her head over to the Victreebel. "I just realized you don't have a name. How's... How's Aruma? Do you like that?"
The Grass-type raised his leafy members and shook them, another garish scream signifying his approval.
"Aha, well... I hope Aruma hasn't caused you much trouble. He just a little scary in appearance, but sweet in temperament, I guess."

Becka continued to kneel and comfort Raven while the other girl spoke, and offered a small smile, it was't the girl's fault that the victreebel ahd eaten the shiny dunsparce, and it wasn't her fault that Raven was scared of it and wanted to fight it off but still.... everytime the victreebel screamed she could deel Raven shudder under her hands. Becka wondered why the Victreebel was swaying, she had to admit she didn't have any experience with grass types, she only had two Pokemon and they were both electric types, which is why she had gotten used to shocks fairly quickly, most that would have other people squealing, she just dismissed as an annoyance she could deal with, though the frizzy hair during thunderstorms she could do without. "I'm fine, he didn't mean to hurt me, and it's over with now, all done" She smiled down at Raven "Isn't that right my big brave guy?" Raven looked up at Becka with soulful eyes, then glanced at the Victreebel again before placing himself between the grass type and the baby togepi again, this time without the obvious aggression... at least as long as the Victreebel stayed where it was and didn't get any closer. "There.. that's better" said Becka, though in the back of her mind she was concerned, if something like the encounter with the Victreebel could set him off back into the horror in his mind that she thought she had driven from him with love and care, she might have to look into getting some kind of therapy for him in the future, or maybe this mysterious immortality granter could grant her Shinx some peace of mind.. "I don't think your .. Aruma ... is scary" said Becka to the other trainer "Surprising perhaps ... but he didn't seem so sweet gobbling down that Dunsparce whole" she added, with a hint of humor.

Magnolia chuckled at Becka's jest. though there was a hint of nervousness behind it. She really hoped other Pokemon did not react in the same regard as Shinx did. While his reaction was completely justified, the fourteen year old had her own reservations towards hostile Pokemon. Despite Altais having saved her then, the impact that day off the ferry from Unova still shook her up.
"You're right," she said to the female. "He's not scary. At least, erhrm, not very scary. Just a teensy bit..."
Aruma took this as a compliment. With a cheery screech and summoned vines, the Victreebel wrapped them around his trainer in a tight embrace. Magnolia coughed, the show of affection squeezing the air out of her, and as she tried to fight him off, she introduced with bated breath, "I-I'm Magnolia Claus a-and... y-you know who this is." She pushed a hand against the Grass-type's face. "A... A-Aruma."
Asphodel, atop her head, freaked out, waving her little hands desperately.
"A-and that's Asphode the Ralts. N-nice, gurk—" Aruma tightened his grip again. "Nice to... meet... meet you...!"

"Becka Montas, Travelling Healer, and of course, this is Raven, nice to meet you too" she said, glancing at the Ralts that was freaking out a little "I'm sure you'll both get used to your Aruma, it seems friendly enough towards people at least" she said, a bit wary still for Raven's sake, she wasn't so sure that the Victreebel might not think of the Ralts as a snack but hopefully that Dunsparce would keep the grass pokemon full for a while "Did he HAVE to eat a shiny though?" she chuckled, trying to ease the obvious tension

 Juno shot a withering look at the girl who dared to scold her. Desdemona was free to do as she liked, so long as she didn't wander too far. Not that there was much danger of that; all of Juno's Pokémon were absolutely devoted to her. The Chandelure herself had ceased her antics. In fact, she'd shied away as soon as the mysterious rustling and peeping had materialised into two newborn baby Togepi. She hung still in the air for a moment, staring, then let out a sad little "Luuuuuure," before fleeing to her mistress's side.

[[It's early afternoon EST, so I guess we'll close the contest. :3 Thanks to everyone who entered. :3 ]]
The togepis were captured with relative ease after having been lured in by their new trainers. However, a rustle in the grass further in signaled another pokemon! Another familiar rattle-like shape poked out of the grass, but something seemed... off about it. Maybe it's nothing.
It was moving with great speed, like before. Was there another victrebell in the area, or something else chasing it?
Rules For Catching The Strange Pokemon Roll a six-sided die, signalling your character giving chase, and keep track of your rolls. The people who reach 50 or more by 11:59 PM Eastern Time will be entered into a raffle for the strange pokemon. You must wait until at least one other person has posted before rolling again, or until 30 minutes have passed since your last roll, whichever comes first.

The spotted Togepi reached out and batted at the pokeball, hitting the button. A flash of red light, and a couple wobbles later, and the pokeball let out a ding. Lily Rose wagged happily. She was a good dog! A shriek, that evil scary thing from before, came from behind, and the grass rustled ahead. Lily Rose snatched up the ball, then raced back to her trainer.

Becka sighed as she noticed the Togepi get captured... or rather chose, their new trainers, ah well, they'd probably been spooked by Raven, who had relaxed almost completely the instant they had been caught and were in the company of humans.
When raven heard a rustle in the grass he jumped up and gave chase, eager to be away from the Victreebel, Becka got up quickly, giving chase to her Shinx "Sorry... i'd better follow him!" she called behind her to the girl with the victreebel.

Out of the corner of her eye, Juno caught a glimpse of what might have been another Dunsparce. They weren't exactly valuable Pokémon, all things considered, but, as she'd thought before, this was still the first sighting of them in Zatao. "Desdemona! Follow that Pokémon!" The Chandelure obliged, spinning away with a cackle after the rustle in the grass. {2/50}
