It was a long walk for someone who was starting out on their journey. The teenager had spent most of her time, dodging tall grass to ensure she didn't get attacked by wild pokemon before she was able to get her own starter pokemon. From pewter city all the way to pallet town she had spent her time walking due to the fact she hadn't got a bike or any other transportation. Well...technically she wanted to walk anyway. Her parents tried to get her a ride to pallet town, but Ryonah had wanted to walk as a way to ensure she had a lot of time to decide what starter she wanted.
The three choices for the region were Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur. Her mind was mulling over which one she wanted to take as her partner. When she had entered Pallet town borders, her mind had decided on one. She had decided to go with Bulbasaur. The grass type was adorable but was also reliable from what she had heard from her elder sister. Her sister having gotten Squirtle at the start of her journey but had acquired a Bulbasaur further in her journey.
Upon making her way to the front of the laboratory within the small town, Ryonah stared up at the doorway, her eyes sparkling at the thought of finally being able to start her journey. She had spent a few seconds to take a few shots of the lab building with her digital camera before she decided to go in. Pushing the door open, her eyes scanned the main lobby. She could see a few random scientists, some younger teens and even children waiting for their pokemon and walls and walls of pictures of different pokemon and their stats. Her eyes showed how excited she was.
She was finally going to start her journey. She had been sure her parents were going to keep her from getting a pokemon for her entire life. But she refused to let her birth defect hold her back. She was going to go on a journey of her own and catalog everything she saw. It was making her bounce on her heels as she stood there in the lobby excited. Shutting the door behind her she went to sit at one of the chairs in the lobby as she waited for her turn to come for her to choose her pokemon.
Professor Oak was certainly having a busy day. An unusual amount of people were here to get their starter pokemon, and he was the sort that preferred to spend his time with each person to really inform them of everything, enlist them in their help, tell them about pokemon, and let them consider their decision carefully. Thankfully, it seemed that most knew what they were looking for, and some held no interest in listening to him talk-- so the line moved at least somewhat swiftly. A wary but happy Oak eventually greeted Ryonah, a welcoming smile on his face as he held his hands out. "Hello! Thank you for your patience in waiting... It's been a bit busy here! I take it you're here for a pokemon?" he offered, bustling over to ensure he had the three starters ready to pick from. "Please, come over, feel free to take a look. We have three excellent choices," he offered.

Ryonah sat there watching as person after person was led into the back of the laboratory and left with a new pokemon of their own, The young teen was excited to get her own pokemon. She had decided on Bulbasaur because of the recommendation her sister said of the species. She would have liked a Squirtle but she didn't want to copy her big sisters choosing for the elder siblings partner pokemon. She didn't know much about Charmander because she had never experienced one before. But Bulbasaur and Squirtle she has at some points when her sister would return from traveling and visit the family.
When Professor oak finally turned to her after the last of the new trainers ahead of her left, Ryonah blushed slightly as she stood up and nodded. Following after the professor as he told her to come to take a look. Her eyes sparkled at the three starter pokemon. Each of them was adorable, and charming in their own ways. It almost made her want to choose a different starter. But she was set on Bulbasaur.
The adorable little grass pokemon was just too cute to get second thoughts. "I...was hoping to take Bulbasaur as my starter pokemon. I spent the past few days walking from my hometown to pallet town trying to decide." she said happily though her expression was unchanged. Even though she was emotionless in facial appearance, anyone could tell what she feeling through the excitement and happiness her voice portrayed.
Professor Oak raised his eyebrows, both at the girl's continuous expression, but change in tone, and that she mentioned walking for days. "Well! That's quite impressive!" he chuckled, before moving over, "Bulbasaur, eh? A hardy pokemon indeed! Very loyal-- good for beginners. Here you are." He handed the pokeball over, but moved to quickly register her as well. "And here-- a pokedex, and a few pokeballs and potions to get you started," he offered as well.

Ryonah blinked as she looked down at the adorable Bulbasaur that was looking up at her curiously. Its head tilting to the side as Professor oak spoke about the pokemon. She was happy to know she was right about Bulbasaur. She had learned that her big sisters Bulbasaur were a loving and loyal pokemon. The only difference was, that her sister had a female, and this was a male Bulbasaur. She could tell because she studied the subtle differences between each pokemon in her desire to learn more for her journey. When she was handed the Pokeball for said Bulbasaur, her eyes sparkled before she turned and knelt down to be closer to the grass and poison type pokemon. "Hello there~ I am Ryonah. I will be your partner from now on~" she said happily though her expression remained the same.
The Bulbasaur blinked its eyes before walking towards her when Ryonah offered it a hand. "I think a new name is what you need my little friend. Hmm...What to name you..." she said as she closed her eyes in thought. The Bulbasaur walking forward before gently nudging her on the palm of her hand with his nose. This made Ryonah open her eyes as she gently started to scratch the pokemon under its chin. Her mind in thought before nodding as she thought of a name. "How about Buck. Its the same name of my mothers favorite pokemon. He passed away a few years back and i always enjoyed playing with him as a child." she said happily before the bulbasaur blinked and started to coo happily at the name. This made Ryonah's eyes sparkle as she giggled slightly. Though her expression never changed, she was quite expressive in her voice.
"Buck it is then~" she said as she scratched the bulbasaur on the top of its head between its ears. When Professor oak offered her a pokedex as well as a few other things, Ryonah stood up and nodded before taking the pokedex and putting it into her shoulder bag. She then did the same with the pokeballs and potions. Setting them in the proper bag pockets before taking her camera and taking a picture of Proffesor oak and then Buck after she had picked him up and held him in her arms. The pokemon blinking at the flash of the camera before Ryonah turned it so the digital screen was visible to the pokemon.
"I wanted to take a picture of everything i see and do during our journey. So...what do you think buck?? Its a nice picture...right??" she asked curiously before the bulbasaur blinked as it stared at the picture before smiling happily. "Bulba bulba~~" it called out happily which made Ryonah nod as she nuzzled the pokemon on the head. "I think the same thing." she said happily before turning after putting Buck's pokeball on her belt and bowing to Professor oak. "Thank you professor Oak. I'll take really good care of Buck~" she said happily as a light tinge of color came to the teens face. The only sign in her expression that she was happy.
Ryonah then turned and headed towards the door after saying bye to the professor. Heading out on her own journey finally.

The train ride was just like any other - long and boring. Fortunately for Shei, he was blessed with his video games as a source of respite from what would’ve been him simply staring out the world and making himself anxious for the up and coming journey and all that entailed.
He wasn’t really looking to think about that. Instead he engrossed himself in the virtual world of dungeon crawling and clashing magic and swords; so much so that he didn’t even realize that the train had come to a stop, nor that the intercom just above was sounding off for their arrival. He was just that focused and it wasn’t even a boss battle.
No, instead he found out after sending his system nearly flying to the floor in surprise when a stewardess gently tapped him on the shoulder to alert him to the fact. Yikes. Maybe secretly, he was just a bit more nervous than even he cared to admit? He apologized to the woman profusely (he’d sort of shocked her in the process of his shock, good going) and thanked her for breaking him from his silly little trance, shoving his system and headphones haphazardly into his messenger bag and he rose to his feet and exited.
Well that was one way to start the day. Shei rubbed the back of his neck and took a deep breath. There was no need to be wigging out or anything. Pokemon journeys weren’t anything crazy; perfectly normal in fact.

Shei shook the thought off. Nah, it was fine. It was fine. His parents were fine with it, he was definitely fine with it and so… yeah.
It was fine. Besides, he’d kind of always wanted to be a pokemon trainer. He’d worked with them but never really ‘worked’ with them. If he could mark things off his bucket list, well why not this one?
A little bit of walking and after having soothed his nerves, he found the lab entrance. While the outside of the building was nothing special, the inside was about the technical wonder he expected from a place that was … well essentially a laboratory.
"Excuse me ma’am," Shei inquired, catching the attention of the assistant closest to the doorway. She turned to address him and as she did, he placed his hands on his knees and gave her a bit of a bow. "Hi, sorry to interrupt you. I’m looking for the professor? Is he uhm… in? Around? Available?" Good start. Good start.

The assistant, with a quirk of the eyebrow and an amused smirk pulling at her lips, opened her mouth to answer the nervous young man when the professor himself stepped into view, having overheard the, brief, conversation between the two. "I am he, and I'm happy to inform you that I'm in, around, available," he teased, chuckling playfully at his own joke. He cleared his throat, then tapped the edges of the papers he'd been holding on a table absently. "What can I do for you?"

Shei shifted his attention from the assistant to Professor Oak as the older man appeared just as he made his inquiry. Oh wow Oak really was on the old side, wasn’t he? He gave a nervous chuckle, straightening up and rubbing the back of his neck before offering the older man a bit of a bow as well.
"Ah it’s a pleasure to meet you Professor Oak," Shei remarked straightening up a gain. With terrible introductions out of the way what introduction did he give exactly?, he felt a little calmer and a grin crossed his face. "I’m here to get registered as a trainer? And get a starter if I could, please?" A simple enough task for him to get done. Then again, there was always time for things to ge needlessly difficult. Hopefully, not this time but. You never knew.

Oak nodded his head slowly, his suspicions confirmed. Nowadays, no matter the age, most people came into the lab to get a start on their pokemon adventures. And good for them! He had an abundance of starters, and you could never have too many young minds out in the world, making discoveries that would, no doubt, would help the world of research. The professor gave a knowing look to the assistant the man had snagged down, silently asking her to get the usual items, before he turned back to the man himself. “Excellent! Come with me then, if you’d please,” he urged, motioning for him to follow after him as he walked further into the lab. “What kind of starter were you hoping to get? And while we’re at it, what’s your name, young man?” That was an important bit of information the soon-to-be-trainer had yet to give.
Shei glanced between the assistant and the professor, giving the woman an appreciative nod as she headed off to the tasks given to her before following further into the lab with Professor Oak as indicated. He was busy staring about the place and taking in the sights before snapping back to the questions being asked of him. "Shohei. Shohei Callighan," he commented regarding his name, adjusting the strap of his messenger bag a bit.
"And I was looking for a Squirtle please." He beamed brightly, though he seemed to remember something and immediately began fishing about in his bag. He tugged out the candy bar which seemed to be slouching just a bit from just a bit of melting. Oi.
"... and a Charmander? For this?" He offered it out to the man with a bit of an apologetic smile. Yeah, best way to get yourself an extra starter was to offer up a melted chocolate bar. He’d certainly thought that through.

"A pleasure to meet you, Shohei!" Oak greeted jovially, and even stuck his hand out for a proper handshake between gentlemen. He pulled his hand back afterwards, just in time to eye the candy bar Shohei offered him. He stroked his chin, the same smile that he'd greeted him with still there, he was a fan of chocolate, even melted chocolate. "You drive a hard bargain," he eventually conceded, and gave a 'defeated' sigh to keep up his part; he couldn't let word get out that he'd been so easily bribed. "A Squirtle and a Charmander, coming right up." Once the trade had been made, the ragecandybar carefully tucked away into his coat pocket to be frozen and eaten at a later date (maybe when he was reviewing his papers), he made his way into the back to snag two pokeballs, and on his way back met up with his assistant, who'd collected a pokedex and a small parcel.
After thanking her, and taking them from her, he rejoined Shohei to begin distributing his new items. "Here you are, your pokemon, and a starter parcel, filled with a few small items every new trainer needs," he explained, then went right into registering his pokedex in his name, that was a two-handed task. Once finished he proudly handed off the device as well, already launching into 'educator mode', "That there is your pokedex, it has entries of every pokemon you come across, plus a few more important pieces of information I'll let you figure out on your own." After all, it'd be no fun if he explained everything to him. "Now, if that's everything you need, I bid you farewell and wish you good luck on your adventure! And feel free to come back, if you're in need of any further assistance, or just so happen to be in the neighborhood."

"A pleasure to meet you, Professor Oak!" Shei returned, though he did pause in surprise at the hand that was offered, seeming to have to comprehend a moment before extending his own and giving a semi-solid handshake to the older man. He didn’t exactly spend a lot of time being a gentleman or interacting with others in more serious settings. He’d probably get plenty of practice with that though.
Shei honestly couldn’t hide the childish yet giddy delight (he was practically bouncing on the heels of his sneakers) as Professor Oak took his awful chocolate bar offering in exchange for an extra starter. He’d had nothing but a doubtful nagging feeling in the back of his head when Dalyon told him that he could just get two starters if he just handed over the chocolate bar. I mean chocolate was great, he loved the stuff, but exchanging something as rare as a starter for it? Little farfetched in his opinion.
But, it worked! At least, after some hesitation? Shei couldn’t quite tell if he ought to feel good or bad about Oak’s resignation to give him an extra a starter but opted to give a grateful smile. Watching curiously as his ‘starter parcel’ was gathered, he straightened up as he was addressed once more, head bobbing along thoughtfully as each part was explained. He eyed the pokeballs containing the starters with glee, taking them carefully as though they were precious cargo. He listened as well as the Professor went over the pokedex, taking it with a freed up hand and immediately flipping it open, his mind already wandering what tinkering he could do and how hard it might be to pull the thing apart, (along with whether that was a good idea or not) before tucking it into the side pocket of his messenger bag along with the rest of the goods.
"Thank you, professor! I appreciate it!" He gave another bow (deeper than the first he’d given), still holding the balls like the precious cargo they were. Shuffling a bit he offered a wave goodbye as well as he turned to start heading for the door. "I will! Thank you again!"
Conor was busy writing down his research while the room shook around him. There was some sort of pokemon battle in the building. Of course, there was. They were bringing back fossils after all. He sighed. He hated pokemon battles. He hated everything. He got up and crossed the room to the door and left. The sound of his heels echoed in the halls and he paused seeing his colleagues having a small battle royal with the pokemon they had just revived.
"Well if it isn't the cowboy from Driftveil City. Are you finally going to revive one for yourself?" "You've taken the novelty out of fossils away from the world. Now it's just something expected. Based on full-scale fossils what you have is dwarfed in comparison. This isn't what the pokemon is at all. It's just a piece of them." "You wouldn't understand you don't even have ONE pokemon."
He knew they were right. He couldn't understand. He came to Kanto to understand. The first lab that successfully brought back a fossile. Yet he didn't see fossil pokemon just showing up the wild. No. It was always with a trainer. Because they weren't surviving on their own. How could they with such drastic changes to the environment they were used to, and while being at a fraction of the power they were used to. Conor threw us his hands. He had heard enough.
"Fine, you want me to understand this rampant idiocy you lot keep showing off? Fine, I'll go get a pokemon and show you it's all pointless. Pokemon don't need humans we're stunting their growth." "No, we both need each other Conor just try it. You'll see."
In truth Conor was jealous seeing bonds form like this. The idea of a fossil pokemon returning to the mortal realm was amazing to him. The fact that they seemed to care for trainers. He wanted it, so badly, but felt it was wrong to try. Once he dies who would love and cherish that pokemon? Wouldn't the new environment be too much for them i in the long run? Would they just stay in a ball or a pc to be forgotten? What would happen? And yet, he wanted to be part of this world he despised. He wanted to understand why this was so normal for everyone else. The other reason he thought Kanto was interesting was because of the starter pokemon. In a sense, they're all similar to dinosaurs and nothing like other pokemon. Once upon a time you couldn't even find them in the wild, and now you can, but how? Why. These pokemon have been around since to beginning. So if anything happened to him he'd know the pokemon he'd choose would also be perfectly fine.
"I guess I'll go on this journey then."
He was an adult it would be strange maybe. He has seen children running around doing gym battles and it was always normal. Would it be strange if he started now?
I have only so much time right now. I'm older and I will die. How will I know what it's like if I don't try? I've worked my rear off this whole time, and I've never taken any risks. If I'm going to keep up with my job, I have to immerse myself in every part of it. I want to understand. I need to understand.
So with that mentality, he was off to pallet town...That's how he ended up here today.
I can't believe I'm going to do this...This is so stupid...I'm an adult for crying out loud. He was sure his friends sent Professor Oak an email that he was on his way. He felt bad he hadn't announced he was coming but he thought he would have changed his mind and went back.
He already did his homework and he was ready to pick up a Charmander. Little did he know his colleagues sent the professor an email. The email was sent out two days ago.
Dear Professor Oak The staff at the Cinnabar Restoration Center say hello! Also one of our colleagues is going to pay you a visit. He's a bit high strung in nature and we managed to convince him to try to get to know pokemon because he has a lot of good ideas and intentions but he doesn't seem to understand how trainers and pokemon co-exist. He does have a Maractus that he takes care of but he might need more affection. We sincerely hope you lead him on the right path. Also if he isn't there in a week we will send out a rescue party. Thank you!
