Terra's attention remained fixated on the square and the strange magical beings who occupied it. She paid special attention to the being who seemed to have materialized out of thin air, the one who concealed her face with a mask. In fact, Terra nearly spaced out just observing her. The absent-minded teen certainly wasn't all there when the woman she accompanied covered her eyes, and she couldn't help but jump slightly at the unexpected action. But as quickly as the brunette covered Terra's eyes, she uncovered them and whispered a reassuring apology. The woman then went on to explain exactly what had happened. "Dark energy..." Terra pondered as she looked to the square. "And... magical beings defending the town? Those rumors about yesterday... Could they be true? And then this happened..." Before the confused teen could continue her train of thought, the woman inexplicably tightened her grip on Terra's arm.

"Uh... miss?" Terra whispered to her. "Hey! You okay?" Just as Terra uttered those words, the woman withdrew her hand and apologized again. The orange-haired teen looked to the side momentarily while the woman's attention was preoccupied with something else. "Is everyone in this town a bit off?" she thought to herself. Terra wasn't quite sure what to make of this curious woman. She certainly seemed nice enough, but there seemed more to her. How did she manage to find Terra in an abandoned building in these circumstances?

She turned back to the woman with a puzzled look in her face. Before Terra could so much as think of a question, the woman spoke up and removed a scarf from her neck. Shards from the large window found their way into Terra's thick, orange hair. Luckily enough that's as far as the shards got, thanks mostly to that woman. Terra nodded and thanked the woman as she wrapped the scarf around her head and shook the glass loose, then stood up and turned her attention back to the square.

A girl clad in pink confronted the mysterious masked being in the center of the square, much to the dismay of another being who accompanied her. In response, the masked girl froze the pink girl where she stood and issued to everyone a stern warning. The situation became grave and Terra felt heavy inside. By the sounds of the masked girl's words, Barton Town was facing inevitable destruction. The air around the square became cold as a dark haze slipped into the area. Terra looked into the brunette's bright green eyes with a fearful expression, unsure about what she could do. Or if anything could be done.

She had titled herself Sailor Dark Vortex, said her piece, and wanted to leave the square and what she now deemed annoyances there. She had hoped the less reckless looking of these mysterious senshi would hear reason, but then again Hydro had said to ‘take it however you like’. Plus, she hadn’t attacked first, she thought to herself in regards to the butterfly senshi she’d encased the feet of ice, and she saw Charm flittering above, wary. Of course she’d only swiped the air near the imp as a warning. She supposed not drawing any blood equated to her being taken less seriously. It still wasn’t enough for her to change her mind on the topic, however.

She was aware of these bright auras around her, the light of what she had to guess was a senshi, or a warrior of the light persuasion. She knew just how aware the energy mass deep in Barton soil was aware of it too. No one else could hear it, but a steady heartbeat hit Hydro’s ears, a pulse of the dark massive, but otherwise non-descript entity below. This calm would not hold for long. How on earth was she supposed to rid Barton of the residents while bickering with these warriors? Even though she should’ve been rattled at the Pixie warrior’s scolding, she really felt exasperation more than anything, except for the part that now she was being told to leave? Before she could react to that, she saw a winged warrior attempt to free the butterfly girl. How unnecessary, she never intended for that ice cage to hold for long, as it was already melting and being chipped away at rapidly.

There was something to these warriors though, something intriguing. Did they really intend to defend this place as its destruction was assuredly coming? They were scant lights like the midnight sky, and they could not overtake the pitch dark of night that was befalling this place. Yet they wanted to go down with the ship, it seemed. She concentrated her increased energy on the sky above, and in a blink of time, the clouds were taken from thin and wispy white, to heavy gray concealing every bit of atmosphere over Barton. Vortex banished her other sword away and poured the energy she received into her newest effort. Rain drops crashed to Barton, in heavy, too large drops to be considered droplets. Beyond a dreary and drenched sky was something more for these bright lights, an extinguisher of sorts. In areas where the water puddled high, higher than naturally possible was where true trouble brewed.

Specific puddles were fluid, but were fluidly moving, slowly rising in different areas of the town, but three were in the ruined square, rising up the quickest. Two were growing closer to the ice platform, silvery in color, but taking on forms that showed wings that resembled feathers and butterfly scales.

The third had an active senshi as its target, rising up right in front of her, a pair of wings at its back, the shape becoming clearer and succinct with the pixie warrior. Standing at the same height and with the same sailor suit, but with silver liquid like mercury as the texture of it’s being, a doppelganger stood to face Alyin, ready to drain her bright energy from her body, even matching the seasoned warrior’s smirk as it stood before her.

“Your loyalty to Barton is…refreshing,” She said openly, softly. “But you want to know how difficult the task will be, I guess I should try to enlighten you, but how on earth are you going to chase me out when you’re chasing your own tails?” She chuckled. “Or rather, they’re chasing you.” Doppelgangers for all the positive energized people of Barton. Torrential rain for everyone else. She let out an uncharacteristic laugh, drawing mist around her to slip away nearly unseen from the square at last.

Dopplegangers for everyone! Have fun see the rules in the OCC thread.

Shivering at the sight of this strange and malevolent rain Leif dropped his feather and took the hedge hog off his shoulder and deposited his companion safely in a building giving it a warm smile before promising he'd come back and that indeed Oscar should stay reasonably put. Slowly a single tear formed on the young mans face as he turned to see his doppelganger, deep inside his own soul Leif knew something about his was not quite right as if it was an unknown entity staring back at him. The air seemed so dead and desolate as a soft sigh escaped him as he moved both himself and the doppel away from the others, Silently he prayed once again to that entity inside the medallion that had granted his wish earlier. " Please, once more lend me that gift to use so justly. i know not what these beings are, but this darkness and rain seem to blacken even the cosmos. so i ask thee, grant me that strength to be like those guardians. " lifting his head skyward and feeling the rain wash over him a sickened feeling settled in his stomach as his plea went unanswered as he walked toward the creature.

Both men stopped a few feet away from each other before locking eyes. Leif's own eyes seemed so crestfallen as he stared in to the abyss of the doppel ganger's eyes. slowly raising his own hand Leif watched the mirror to his action with fearful interest, it followed his motions perfectly. thinking quickly an idea raced to his mind he still had a feather in hand, he wagered rather cynically both would aim for the other to try for a testing shot. as if like a symphony both men threw their feathers with Leif coming up worse for wear in the exchange as his passed through the water, but his doppel had cut his left arm by the elbow.
Clutching his wounded arm both men began to circle the other as if planning and waiting. Though caught slightly off guard yet again another three feathers struck Leif's knees and other elbow as if trying to tire him out in a quick fashion.

Falling forward and connecting to the squares stones he looked up in a defeated manner at the figure walk towards him. slowly the sad realization sank in, though determined and kind as he might have been Leif had bitten off more then he could chew and was about to pay for it. with a slow motion he watched the figure lean in about to touch him as Leif though for once. " i've tried my hardest at the end of the day, it may not have been good enough to help these people, to help Barton and her defenders, but . . i might not have been cut out for it. . . Slowly he felt the water contact his face and draw some of the energy out of him before rolling him over weakened and unable to get up. . .. but it sure as hell doesnt mean that ill let that watery facsimile hurt anyone or Oscar.

so move. ... move! Move Damit body! We havent come this far from home to faulter yet.
He screamed mentally as his double nearly left back to the square. Slowly shaking like a leaf in a hurricane, A bright blinding radiance encased Lief once more Rejuvenating some of the strength and energy that was sapped from him albiet still disadvantaged. though this time he was different from before, The wings on his back were alive and still as splendorous as before as they stretched skyward shining with a defiant spark that burned behind both of his eyes. There in them a cosmos drifted shimmering with its last rays across the heavens bold and unwavering in conviction. ... . . Cygnid . .. flurry He shouted loudly before a plume of feathers ripped in to the dopple and dissipated it for a moment and threw him backward at the unexpected burst of energy. Slowly he watched it reform were it had stood as Lief gave a mischievous grin as if taunting in to coming back to play.

The masked woman stared at the quartet almost uncertain of what to make of Aylin's brash and succinct verbal dressing down. Aylin could tell she was about to attack in retaliation for the verbal warning. What she had said to the masked woman might not have been the smartest move to make but it was the only one that Aylin felt would cause the least damage to the already battle torn square. The choice to stay and defend Barton went far beyond a sense of duty to the uniform she had transformed into that morning. This was her family's home. Seven generations of Stewarts were born and raised in Barton Town. Her father-in-law grew up to become captain of the Barton Regulars as was his father before him and at the time she had met him it was his hope that his own son, Orrin, would in turn carry on the family tradition. However, that was not to be as Orrin's heart had led him on a different path in life. And yet the desire to protect and guard the people of Barton Town and the connection the Stewart family had with the Barton Regulars did not die the day her father-in-law passed on.

It was Aylin's sister-in-law Maggie who made certain Stewart blood remained within the Regulars when she herself married a lower ranking member. From there they gave her father what Aylin was unable to produce in fifty years of marriage to Orrin, grandchildren. And it was Maggie's son and daughter who went on to produce the seventh generation of Stewarts to be born, grow, learn, love, and live in a town called Barton. This was more than just about bricks and mortar and commerce that needing protecting. For Aylin this was about protecting and defending over two centuries of deep rooted family history and tradition from being destroyed. This was about five generations of men who had taken up the mantel and armor of Regular and the four before who had risen to lead them. The warrior spirit was very strong on both sides of Aylin's family whether they chose to wear the armor or not and it was worth every ounce of strength Aylin had poured into the battle. It was why the current generation of Regulars considered her to be a sister in arms and an honorary member.

As Aylin waited for the masked woman to make her next move, the skies began to darken as large fat rain drops fell to the ground. The smell of wet fur and feathers premeditated the air as Kai's fur began to mat and smell of the natural oils and musk contained within. Try as he might the gray cat could not shake off the rain water as it continued to pelt his fur. The rain falling from the sky would have been a mere nuisance in the battle with the masked woman if something about it had not felt off and very wrong to both seasoned mystical beings. Aylin at first was very confused as to what made the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end as shivers of cold and foreboding raced down her spine. It wasn't until a very loud very foul mouthed curse escaped the lips of her gray feline companion that Aylin understood just how bad the situation had now become.

"Aylin, she's using dopple magic," Kai yelled over the sound of the hard heavy rain as the puddle before her turned into her.

Aylin knew of dopple magic having been taught about it from everyone who had tried to successfully train her in the ways of magic. Each of her teachers, her military instructors, commanding officers, her mother, her father, and even her grandmother had all instructed her in dangers of coming face to face with dopple magic. It was a dark and dangerous piece of magic not only to cast but to come face to face with. Aylin had yet to know it but Kai, before he accidentally turned himself into a cat, had fought against creatures created with dopple magic and nearly lost his very life. The dark duplicates were attracted to one thing and one thing only, life energy and the more they drained the more difficult it became to defeat them. There was but one hope in the battle against the use of dopple magic finding a magically protected safe haven. Any building with an enchantment or protection spell cast upon it was all it took to keep the dark duplicates at bay, if they did not catch their original first.

"Dopple magic? I've only been told about it and how to get away from it. I don't know how to fight against it," Aylin called back as she unsuccessfully tried to slice through the watery hand that stretched out in an attempt to grab her by the throat.

The duplicate stood less than five feet before Aylin looking between her hand and the transformed pixie. The attack was bold yet foolish. The duplicate looked as though it wanted to say something but lacked the ability to speak. If it could, the duplicate would have praised her boldness while mocking Aylin's foolishness and dependence on human weapons. Instead, the duplicate hardened its stare at Aylin as it once again raised its arm in a second attempt to grasp her by the throat and drain the pixie of her life's energy. As the hand shot out a second time, Aylin leaped into the air in an effort to evade being caught. However it was no use as she could feel the wet liquid like fingers wrap themselves around her ankle.

As her energy started to leave her, Aylin could feel something within her fight back. The broach that had decided her path in life and whose magic scared her so much began to glow enveloping Aylin in a barrier of protection. The duplicate pulled back its hand as pain swept across its face. Aylin dropped to the ground fast and hard struggling to regain solid footing as her energy was now one third less than what it had been at the beginning of the fight.

"Use your magic; that thing can't be stopped by conventional weapons or simply dodging it," Kai called out.

Standing up slowly on unsteady feet Aylin returned her sword back to its place of summoning as she stared at the duplicate with eyes that spoke of both fear and a feeling of incompleteness. Relying solely on her magic and not having her sword for backup scared Aylin more than anything. It was at that moment she wished Orrin was still alive to fight by her side and tell her she had nothing to fear. Swallowing down a knot in her throat and letting out a held nervous breath Aylin called forth her attack.

"Ventum Lamina," Aylin called out loudly as she poured everything she had into the blade of wind.

The attack struck square and true and while it didn't completely destroy the duplicate it had done enough damage to allow Aylin and Kai a window of escape. Aylin hated leaving the young teen alone in the square but she had no choice. The pair needed to get to a safe magically protected location that wasn't too far away before the duplicate regained itself and became the hunter.

"We need to get somewhere that has a strong protection spell around it," Kai said between breaths as they ran as fast and as far as they could away from the square.

"I hate to go there but the old Barton Manor is the closest place like that I can think of," Aylin replied as the sound of the duplicate's sloshing footsteps could be heard in the distance behind them.

Aylin and Kai were headed for the Barton Manor and about to involve the unsuspecting members the social group who resided within her walls.

Ayel watched as the rain fell. As her mist broiled and weaved into Barton's every nook and cranny it began to destroy any living thing it touched. The plants withered and crumpled once they were overcome by it. When the rain began to puddle Ayel was curious as to what this trick was. When the puddles became figures and began to face off with their counterparts she decided it was time to stop being a spectator.

The hazy mist shot out quicker like a fog driven by a fierce wind. It crept into buildings and then, it found what she was really after. Human beings. The mist was quick to search out any people hiding near the square. Their lives were absorbed--their bodies shriveling as they were consumed. It was not a quick nor was it a painless death. Their sheer agony fed Ayle the last of the energy she felt she needed to confront the others. She smirked as the mist began sweeping back toward her; it churned around her as she began walking toward the masked figure.

She glanced to one side as the one throwing feathers began to battle his duplicate. She took note of his penchant for throwing feathers in case he survived this little contest. As she walked toward Hydro she finally spoke. "So you claim to be the gate keeper of what was it again? The Dark Vortex?" The mist began to sink back into her body, slowly revealing her silhouette. Her voice was altered by the haze; deep yet hollow. "I do not know what your plans are, O' Gatekeeper. But, whatever it is you serve is what I seek. I crave its energy, I can feel the darkness in this place and I want it..." The column of mist around her rotated violently before erupting into flames. From these flames, Ayle emerged. She too was now clad in armor. As she finally closed the gap between them she raised her sword, pointing at the one who held her interest.

"Now, stand aside...nothing with stop me from gaining the power that I seek and finally being able to excise this accursed town and the parasites that infest it. And not you nor these other pests get in my way." She hissed. She waited to see what the response would be. She knew now that the others were occupied this was her best chance to get what she came for. If she was denied, she'd do what she had to do to get the oh-so-precious energy. She took a moment to contemplate what would happen if the other's managed to fend off the doppelgangers. It was clear she wasn't one of the "good guys." In fact, just as they reeked of Gaia to her, she was sure that if they were sensitive enough they could tell whom she served.

This needed to be a quick thing. Though, another idea slipped into her mind while she waited for the response. But, she couldn't dwell on what if's until she was certain she either had the energy or was clear from this place.

Charm realized that the butterfly girl was in trouble. The strange liquid thing near her wasn't attacking, but circling around a platform that was nearly disintegrated. She really wanted to run after Hydro and get an explanation of what on Gaia just happened, but immediate needs first. With her tail, she grabbed the back shirt of the butterfly girl, just as her feet were coming free from the ice cage. Fluttering with all her might, Charm helped Prim float down to ground safely. Charm herself collapsed all the way to the ground, winded and feeling faint.

She heard a familiar squeaking sound coming at her. Charm then realized the severity of the situation. She saw the tiny dragon Yin away from Hydro, and that was impossible. Hydro had raised this one from it's hatching day, and never was Yin out of her sight. Yin instantly clinged to Charm. Charm needed to know what happened. Perhaps these warriors knew something, something about what was happening. She saw the Pixie warrior dash off, and feeling as though the situation proved the pixie the smarter warrior, looked at Prim and encouraged her to follow the Pixie. After all, the doppleganger designated to this girl was rising up, preparing to attack. This was no time to remain still, and she plopped on the head of Prim with Yin in tow. "GO! What are you waiting for?!"

Prim felt her body rise as Charm lifted her and then landed her in a safe place. The little imp was very strong for being so small. She was very thankful that she had gotten away from the square before something worse had happened. Though, Prim heeded the winged companion's words, she knew that she was not entirely safe.

Prim wanted to find a way to protect the people of Barton, but she really was feeling scared and the only option was to retreat at this point. Prim had seen Aylin flee the square moments before; a part of her felt as if the pixie warrior had abandoned her to save herself. Prim shook the negative thought off, there was no way her her mentor would up and leave without reason. "Okay!" She gave a quick nod to Charm and took of toward where Aylin was headed. The sooner I catch up with her, the better. We can figure out how to take care of these baddies, and free that poor girl from darkness. Prim was nearly sprinting to catch up with Aylin.

Prim was panting, but had finally caught up with her pixie ally. She hung her self over catching her breath. "Uh...Ay-" Prim hushed herself before she revealed the pixie's full name; it was not very wise to reveal identities to any nearby enemies. Prim didn't want to say "Hey pixie". Prim hoped her small murmur would be enough to catch Aylin's attention. Prim could see that they were arriving at a rather large building. It was majestic. She had never seen anything like it before where she had been from. She only could guess that this structure was the Barton Mansion. She had heard stories about it when she was young, but she never thought she'd have the honor of seeing it with her own eyes. Prim looked it over, then readied herself for Aylin's guidance.

WARNING: extremely text heavy. I apologize for the ridiculous length of this post, but I was on a roll and couldn't stop. Therefore, I broke it into three spoiler sections to make it a bit easier to bear.

The setting sun cast long shadows across the pristine grounds of Barton Manor. This grand vestibule housed the elite faction known as Barton’s Fort of Athletes and Artists, a most prestigious group. Since its inception, BFAA, as they were known far and wide, desired only the best when it came to their place of meeting and kinship. The lush flora spread across the vast lawn like drops of color fallen from a rainbow, each bush and tree pruned to absolute perfection. The silver fountain that stood sentry in the middle of the courtyard drive glinted as a welcoming beacon in the dying rays of the evening.

While the grounds were exquisite, they merely provided accent to the massive structure that was the Manor itself. This grand old building that had stood barren for several decades was a historical landmark that lent itself to the grandiose history of bygone days in the more opulent Barton. The grand hall was all roman columns and ivory. A great crystal chandelier hung from the pinnacle of the domed golden ceiling. There were rooms beyond measure. And all of this was lovingly maintained by the solitary figure that now stood outside in front of the giant oak double doors, patiently awaiting the arrival of the guests he had sensed coming.

Earlier that day Caelen, the resident demon butler of the whole of Barton Town and keeper of Barton Manor, had felt deeply unsettled. He was perfectly aware of the attack in Barton Square the day before and of all the destruction wrought by a force yet to reveal itself. He hadn’t been completely comfortable then, but the sense of imminent danger had been increasing in his mind all day. There was something amiss in the air, and it disturbed Caelen to no end.

Therefore, it came as no surprise to him when Caelen had sensed someone approaching the Manor about a half hour ago. The presence he felt was not evil, but evil had touched it. There was also a distinct sense of agitation and even fear lacing the edges of this newcomer.

How curious, he thought inwardly.

Caelen left his dusting chore in the great Manor library and, striding boldly over to the large open window, jumped lithely from the sill and landed gracefully on his feet three stories down. After all, he was born a demon. That kind of jump was a mere trifle to him. While he was intrigued to find out who the visitor was, he felt it best to err on the side of caution. It was a sound thought, for a moment later he felt another presence enter his radar range, and this one was of pure darkness and evil. Now he understood the fear and apprehension of the first presence. Someone was in trouble.

Moving unseen, Caelen took up a position behind a sculpted bush that provided both cover and an excellent vantage point to survey the Manor courtyard. No sooner had he disappeared behind the bush's bulk, than a lone young woman came into view, just outside of the Manor gates. She spun around quickly, deep raven hair catching the setting sun and shimmering ever so slightly. Her stance and body language let Caelen know the woman was facing an opponent, which Caelen could sense very close by.

Lunette had been about 50 feet outside the Barton Gates when her intuition had told her she was being followed. Not being one to play hide and seek, she abruptly halted her progress out of town and turned to face the direction from which she had just come. About ten yards back on the path was a single figure, but to call it human would not have been accurate. This thing took on a general shape that reflected Lunette, but its eyes were void of any emotion. The creature’s skin was akin to living liquid and had a silvery sheen to it much like the silk used in old fashion weather balloons. The oddball creature stood stock still on the path, perfectly mimicking Lunette’s stance. It gave her the creeps.

Who are you? Why are you following me? Lunette asked, a hint of annoyance coloring her voice.

Lunette’s liquid double remained motionless and speechless. After a moment, Lunette figured the things wasn’t going to answer and began to turn to leave. Bad idea. The moment Lunette began to move, the liquid creature came to life, extending its left arm like a bizarre rubber band. Lune just barely caught the motion from the corner of her eye and dodged the reach. Having missed its shot, the creature retracted its arm and Lunette turned to face it once more, this time taking a more solid defensive stance that would allow her to break into a quick sprint if necessary.

I don’t know what you are or who sent you, but I’m not in any mood for playing tag. Get away from me you freak! Lunette barked at the liquid creature, her anger rising steadily from the unnecessary interruption.

The creature jerked forward suddenly as if to ignore Lunette and continue pursuing her, but then hesitated. It cocked its head sideways, giving the impression of confusion and uncertainty. It was all Lunette needed. One moment of indecision on her opponent’s part provided the chance for her to make a break for cover. Lunette spun and darted off, hoping to leave the creature behind. For a moment, it looked as if the creature would stay put. Lunette glanced back over her shoulder as she ran to see her strange double just standing where she had left it, mid-step. It was done hesitating though.

The creature began to surge forward again, picking up speed. Lunette refocused her attention on the path in front of her, sprinting toward her destination with the creature right behind her, nearly matching her for speed.
The air whooshed just inches from her left ear, and Lunette barely registered a silvery blur as the creature tried to extend its arm again to catch her. Luckily it had poor aim when in motion. Finding an extra pocket of stamina within herself, Lunette doubled her effort to escape her pursuer and surged forward, gaining a tiny bit of extra distance. The respite would not last though. Already the copycat had adjusted its speed and was closing the distance. This time its attacks were relentless. The only thing that kept Lunette out of harm’s way was the poor aim of her attacker.

Lune was rapidly burning out from running. Barton Manor was just up ahead, a veritable sanctuary.

Please, let me make it there, Lunette silently whispered in plea to any force that was listening.

Another liquid missile shot past Lunette’s ear just as she took the last steps that put her right in front of the Barton Manor gates. Having had enough of running away, Lunette whirled around to face her ersatz twin. It was déjà vu. Once more she stood ten yards away from her opponent, staring into emotionless eyes. By now Lune was both highly annoyed and getting mega worried. The thing was relentless. It didn’t appear to be phased by exhaustion and probably could have kept on chasing her until Lunette collapsed.

What do you want from me?! Lunette yelled as she once more took on a fighting stance.

Deep down though, she doubted she had enough strength left to fight. The liquid creature regarded her again with the same hesitation it had displayed before. It wasn’t sure about attacking the human it was after. This one had dark power, and dark power was its master. However, orders were orders. Without any warning, the creature shot out both of its arms to grab hold of Lunette. Lunette threw herself backward to try to avoid the shot.

Cae finally caught sight of the other being he had sensed, the one which had this young woman running for her life. Instantly, he knew what it was and what had to be done. Doppel Magic was dark magic, and Caelen was no stranger to darkness. He may not have used his powers for evil, but his power was born out of evil itself. He knew that only magic could destroy a doppelganger, and those foul henchmen would not dare attempt to stand against a dark being with greater powers that its own. They may have been mere puppets by they were by no means stupid.

The girl was yelling at the doppelganger in frustration. The doppel hesitated for a few moments before it suddenly lashed out to grab its target. Caelen was faster though. Taking advantage of his demon abilities, Caelen swiftly roused from his hiding spot and pelted straight for the girl. The next second the doppelganger reeled back in shock while its two slippery arms slowly turned into plain water on the ground where they had fallen. The shadows Caelen had used to cut the doppelganger still pulsed around his hands. He wasn’t finished though. Dark, shifting shadows rose up around Caelen, black fire. His eyes took on a deep scarlet luster that glowed with rage. Caelen’s aura pulsed with dark energy as he addressed the doppelganger shivering in front of him.

You are not welcome here. These grounds are under my protection. Therefore, so is this girl. You will leave now and not pursue her. Ignore this warning, and you will suffer my wrath.

It came out as an eerily echoing whisper, but it had a menacing strength behind it that caused Lunette to shudder despite the fact that she was not the object of the demon’s threat. However, she was satisfied to see that her odd pursuer was thoroughly spooked. It cowered before the demon for another moment. Caelen let out a low, feral growl from deep in his throat. That was the icing on the cake. The doppelganger took off in a hurry, fleeing for its non-life.

Now that the immediate danger was past, Caelen’s dark aura faded. He turned cheerfully around as if nothing had just happened and offered his hand to the young woman who had fallen flat on her rump.

It’s quite alright my dear. That thing won’t bother you, at least not for the time being. However, I would suggest retreating to the safety of the Manor walls. Caelen said gently as the woman gingerly took his offered hand.

The woman stumbled a bit as she tried to rise to her feet. Caelen caught her as she wobbled forward, falling against his chest. She stood there, staring up into Caelen’s hazel eyes. The she realize how awkward the situation was and pushed herself away, staring down at the ground in embarrassment. Caelen decided to alleviate the tension.

If you will pardon my asking, what by chance is your name? I do not believe I have met you previously. For that matter, what brings you to Barton Manor?

Lunette looked up, glad to have an excuse to focus on something else.

Yeah, sorry about that. My name’s Lunette Argent. I, uh, I work at Pulse Edge Music in Barton Town. Well, at least I used to. I’m not sure how much of Barton Square is even left after what happened today. As to what I’m doing here, call me crazy, but I came here to see you. Lunette said in a rush.

Caelen cocked his head slightly, intrigued.

You came to see me? This is certainly unexpected. I usually don’t get visitors. Tell me, what happened today? I’ve felt apprehensive all day, but haven’t been outside the Manor at all. I—Hmm. Let’s get inside the Manor. You can tell me on the way in.

Something had caught Caelen’s radar again. It was turning out to be a very busy evening. He guided Lunette across the manor grounds, and she quickly summed up the attack in the square as they walked, careful not give away her identity as one of the mysterious warriors aiding Barton. Caelen said nothing as they walked, but he had plenty to think about. They reached the giant oak doors and Caelen turned to Lunette.

Well my dear, I must leave you to attend to business at the moment. You will find the members of BFAA to be very helpful. They will show you around. If you happen to run across Celestine, you might let her know we need extra settings at dinner. I believe we will be having some unexpected company this evening.

With that, Caelen opened the door for Lunette to enter. Once she was safely inside the Manor, Caelen quietly closed the doors and returned his attention to the Manor grounds. He had sensed several more beings approaching the Manor, but now he could tell it was a certain pixie, one other human he was unfamiliar with, and several smaller creatures that did not present any dark vibes. He waited patiently.

Considering her water-based nature, it took a considerable amount to make Hydro have chills. As she noticed the withering plants and the responsible fog, she was none too pleased. She’d gone out of her way not to damage Barton Town personally. (She hadn't forgot that the pillar she’d absorbed the energy of destroyed the square, but to be fair, the destruction was truly not her fault). Putting aside the fact that the town was doomed to be ripped open from under, DV saw no point in destroying it earlier. Plus that sharp tongued pixie had said something about not damaging the town. Even though DV highly doubted she could get the senshi to cooperate with her, dopplegangers or no dopplegangers, but she didn’t really want to entice their wrath any further. They were be incredibly counter-productive, those girls. Oh well, her distraction would take care of their attention for a bit. Maybe it would be enough to make them see reason, or they’d be chasing their metaphorical tails until the next time the Vortex below decided to bust another geyser into the town in its attempt to free itself. That wouldn’t be too long off, either.

With all that on her mind she really didn’t need another problem. So when this strange mist came and approached her, Sailor Dark Vortex really wasn’t in the mood for it, seeing this thing suck up energy. Or was it a thing? A being came out of the mist, and spoke to her. An armored being stood before her, pointing a sword. DV really wasn’t impressed, this wasn’t the first blade pointed in her direction today. As sunset was moving closer and the torrents of rain she’d summoned darkened the town, this being looked strangely in their element. What on Gaia could actually want to take on the terrible energy below? She hadn’t had a choice in the matter, though she was still unclear herself why she wore this new guise of negative energy, but she sensed her purpose. Plus, she really didn’t think this person before her wanted to handle things in the same manner as she did.

“FINNNNEEE I don’t know why you’re telling ME to get out of your way when you’re the one getting in MY way.” Something about the irony of that statement bothered Hydro, but she continued. “Go around telling people to ******** off for fun or something?” Unfortunately teenagers exposed to negative energy were liberal with their sarcasm, curses, and snark. “Why the hell would I get in your way, anyway?” Hydro had an idea. “Or are you just going to admit you have no idea when the next energy spike will start? It’s SO EASY to detect, after all. Or, since I already know no one but ME can’t know what’s going on before it actually does anything, are you trying to convince me of something? If I’m just in your way and not worth keeping around, and you have the energy to do so, why don’t you just eliminate me? Unless, I’m possibly of some worth to you? IS. THAT. IT?”

This was one of those rare moments Hydro was clever and bold enough to openly assess her knowledge of a situation. She hoped she wasn’t pushing her luck. However, having a sponge around could prove useful. However, this was a dangerous idea, Hydro realized. If she were to let this person siphon any of the Vortex energy, would there be something to gain by it, though? Also, with these senshi running around, possibly targeting her, would it work to have another distraction to keep the senshi from interfering with HER? Or would be better to string this strange being along, to see what would come of this strange sort of alliance?

“Well, you’re going to have to tell me why my time is worth standing here any longer, otherwise I’ll leave you to do whatever business you have here. I’m sure you’ll piss off the senshi anyway.” Hydro turned and began to walk away slowly. She was getting quite confident in her power, even she admitted to herself. Surely this morning she would have run like hell from a being like this. Now she was clacking her armored shoes against the cobblestone of Barton Town.

The crimson warrior saw her counterpart, while it was an exact replica of her form, it was dark and aquatic. Luckily Lorelei knew that at least one of her elemental attacks would be effective; she just wouldn't be able to use her fire. "Take this! Cosmic Assault!" She unsheathed her sword and swung at her foe. A large slash of light magic pierced her target. She bounded back and smiled at her foe's demise. She stood her ground and continued to attack the "Aqua Shades" as they popped up. Her priority was to protect the city and its citizens.

A/N: Sorry for the late reply.

Signals suddenly blared inside her stream of consciousness. It has always been like that; whenever Barton had an event such as this, vibrations come in like waves washing over her entire form. Durem hadn't been like that, curiously enough. Rather, the town sends a piercing sound of 16 kHz and would immediately stop when Aureate gains notice of it. It was the same kind of signals whenever she encountered trouble around the Gambino Islands and in Aekea, but Barton was different.

Aureate looked close to committing murder as she watched the dark armour-clad woman freeze the pink-clothed girl's legs and confronting the rest around her with a threatening aura. Then, she noticed for the first time that the woman holding a sword was actually Aylin. How come I didn't notice her...? she thought with a frown, knowing that the pixie would naturally be there to defend the town. The urge to come and help them was nearly overwhelming, but something didn't feel right. Looking back at the girl beside her, Aureate felt compelled to keep her safe as the girl's frightened eyes relayed themselves with a clear message. She wanted to keep those eyes free from burden, at least for now because she knew that even the girl standing next to her will eventually come across tribulations. The frown on her face softened as she faced the other girl with concern obvious on her heart-shaped face. It wasn't safe to stay. W.. We need to go, Aureate said, grabbing the girl's arm and guiding her to the door. Something inside her chest told her that the events outside their temporary safe zone would catch up to their location despite her current camouflage. This girl, beyond her knowledge, was Gaian and is most likely to attract more attention than she would.

In the act of her exit, Aureate didn't notice the water-like creatures raising from the ground due to the heavy rain. However, a gasp tore her focus to the other girl who was looking at a distance with a petrified expression. She looked to where the girl was staring and saw a dark mist slowly creeping towards them. Curiosity peaked within her mind as she stood waiting for it to come, but pushing the apricot-haired girl behind her back with a sense of immediate protection. As the rain poured down on them, the mist only seemed to look menacing as it crept low on the ground as if meaning to sneak up on a prey. Then, the mist touched her ankles and Aureate reeled in sudden pain. She gasped, trying to contain the scream that was about to burst from her throat. But as she tried to avoid getting more of the mist on her skin, a renewed urgency filled her mind as she remembered that the girl behind her might be suffering just as she was. The amount of pain she felt was something she could not describe; searing as if she was being burnt alive, but it confirmed her fears. Darkness was taking over the town she was supposed to be helping to protect, and here she was: an individual of light.

Gritting her teeth in pain, she quietly hissed her apologies and shoved the other girl to a nearby wall and turning around, hoping to use a small amount of her abilities to shield both of them from the mist, but there was an addition to the scene. There, in the small bricked alley that they currently occupied, was a figure standing silently. The figure swayed, as if liquid, and Aureate noticed its features. The hair, the clothes, the height and even the face shape looked exactly like hers, and Aureate felt a sense of dread as she watched the faceless figure look back at her as if it were a darkened mirror. It was sudden movement that had caught her off guard. The faceless figure sprinted towards her with speed that only she could recognise as her own, dripping hands reaching for the real woman's neck. Aureate felt fear spiking through her core, only for it to morph into something lighter. Warmth flooded her body, completely aware that she was emitting light from her body and hands. The pure light collecting from her fists disappeared to create a spherical barrier around the girl on the ground that quickly solidified into a transparent crystal shield, but the action caused a mistake in her chosen movement. The mist was now completely surrounding one of her ankles, holding it and almost looking like a tightened rope, and the dark figure's hand brushed part of her cheek. Aureate bit her lip, causing it to bleed, as she purposefully slid to the ground in a split-second move to avoid the mirror figure's clutches. She quickly jumped to her feet despite the mist's hold on her ankle and the burning sensation of her energy being drained. Aureate's eyes widened, realising that the figure she was attempting to avoid was made out of water and that the mist came from a source that feeds off of light, but both had the same intention.

In less than three seconds, the brunette sprinted to a doorway covered by a stretch of the building's roof before closing her eyes in concentration. A prayer formed in her mind as words quickly slurred into a language limited to those who knew Him. Then, like the girl inside the crystal shield, she was suddenly encased inside a sphere, only it wasn't solid, and time slowed to a stop within the shield. The dark mist and the figure stuck to it, trying to collect its light, but could not due to its unknown but otherworldly properties. Aureate whispered an apology to the girl she had temporarily caged in the crystal and let a ray of light cover the other girl's body like a blanket before letting itself seep into her core. Now, with a spell of imperceptibility, Aureate allowed the other girl to remain completely undetectable until it wears off. Slowly, her consciousness faded and she was left inside the barrier levitating in a state of sleep.

          The Place: Barton Manor

The Time: Half past five in the afternoon

The massive structure beyond the stone and wrought iron gates was just as Aylin had remembered it from the last massive Barton wide social event she had volunteered to help with. The domed structure off to the left housed a rather grand hall bathed in ivory white marble, crystal light fixtures, and an eloquent gilded ceiling of gold. There were staircases of oak, maple, and marble that ranged from the very simple to the grand and ornate based upon location within the old house itself. While some houses had one or two staircases based on size the Barton Manor had over a dozen staircases each leading from varying places around the two story building. There were stairs that connected the main floor to a secret labyrinth of plain looking rooms and places to cook and wash. Stairs that made going from the lower half of the grand library to the upper half easier to accomplish. Stairs that allowed one's self to exit the massive balcony at the back of the manor onto a perfectly maintained stone patio at the start of the lush back gardens. Even the large massive attic had its own set of stairs leading from a back hallway on the eastern wing of the abode.

The grounds of the manor were pristine and well kept with their grand courtyard and perfectly themed gardens. There were several fountains adding an air of elegance to the place as well as two fairly large gazebos for hosting tea services and sitting in the afternoon sun. At the far end of the grounds behind the manor there was a small grove of both domestic and exotic trees from all over the Gaian landscape. There were shaped hedges and several seatings of outdoor furniture in painted wicker and iron while attached to the back of the manor was a beautiful glass enclosed solarium. Outside to the back were more modern and recent additions to the manor a pool and a spa used mainly by the manor's lone staff member. The Barton Manor was truly a sight to behold and the mere fact it was in pristine condition spoke volumes.

In its heyday, under a different name, the Barton Manor was once home to the mayor and his family. The massive home followed the strict traditions of lord of the manor and his family upstairs on the main and second floors while the staff was to remain downstairs kept away from the eyes of visiting aristocracy and upper class. While the household staff was impressive in their own right, the staff in charge of maintaining the grounds worked under the strict instruction of the mayor's wife. Everything within the manor ran like well oiled gears in a fine timepiece. It was into this manor and the family that once owned it that Orrin Stewart had been promised to in marriage at a very young age.

However, not too long after Aylin and Orrin “faked” being married to get Orrin out of the arrangement tragedy struck when the mayor and his family lost nearly every piece of gold to their name and were forced to move from the manor to a smaller centrally located cottage within the heart of Barton. With no staff to care for her and no one to take over possession of the rather large home the Barton Manor fell to ruin forgotten and lost to a bygone era. It wasn't until quite recently that an ambitious group of individuals had taken it upon themselves to reclaim the manor placing it in the ownership of Barton Town and her people. The current town government was more than happy to give the fledgling group who called themselves the Barton Fort of Athletes and Artists free reign of the manor in exchange for its upkeep and use of the grand hall and the manor grounds for massive town social events. And it was who the BFAA, as they referred to themselves, had found to run the manor's maintenance and upkeep that was the reason for the Barton Manor remaining the magically protected sanctuary it was, like the Terra Matter Abbey up on Porta Denia, due to its location within Barton Town.

Aylin was snapped out of her thoughts of the young adults that worked hard to bring the manor back to its glory and provide the town with a place to hold high class social events when she heard the all too familiar voice of the young teen she had met only just that morning. Turning to face the pink clad teen Aylin saw she had been joined by the imp the masked woman had argued with and a tiny silver dragon. The teen looked to be okay but was obviously shaken by what happened to her. It was obvious the imp was latched onto her like some type of life preserver hopping to be taken some place safe and away from the duplicates. The thought of scolding the teen for what she had done crossed Aylin's mind but it was not the time for such things. Rather it was time to get into the grounds of the manor in order to escape the duplicates.

"We have to get onto manor grounds or else our duplicates are going to kill us off for good," Aylin told the group as Kai nodded in confirmation of the suggestion.

"Duplicates can't cross into any areas protected by barrier spells designed to ward off dark magic and the creatures created by it," Kai informed the teen and her two new charges.

Aylin let out a soft held breath before opening the gates to lead the small group now under her charge up the walk towards the manor doors. Knowing they were under the protection of the magic surrounding the manor and its grounds had Aylin feeling at ease about the situation. The group of five were not out of the woods completely but the duplicates would not follow them onto the grounds of the Barton Manor.

As the small group reached the cut stone front porch with its large oak doors, Aylin noticed something quite off about the manor that evening. The usual loud boisterous air to the manor was gone. The normal jovial feel to the Barton Manor and the grounds surrounding it had vanished. As she surveyed the grounds of the manor, Aylin began to wonder where the residents of the manor were. The sound of boisterous laughter and joking around could always be heard coming from the windows of the casual and cozily decorated game room, front parlor, or morning room before one even made it to the front door but on this day it was unusually quiet. Maybe it had to do with recent events or maybe the social group that called the manor home had taken time away from Barton Manor to spend time in their cottage homes but whatever the reason Aylin did not like the silence that had taken over the manor and its grounds.

Adding to the worry that had begun to consume Aylin was a sight she normally did not see when she came to the manor to help with Barton wide events, the lone staff member in charge of the manor's care stood on the stone porch as though he had been waiting for them. The demonic man who had taken on the role of butler normally stayed inside the manor but this time he stood looking vigilant with a young woman by his side. The fact that she was someone Aylin had never seen before at the manor only served to add to her concerns regarding recent events. Letting out a soft sigh Aylin lead the group up the front stairs to where the butler stood.

"I don't like this. Someone else should be here in the manor. There's always someone else at the manor. And the fact that you're practically waiting for us has me worried. We have an imp clinging to this young teen as though her life depends upon it and what seems to be a baby dragon along for the ride. On top of that Kai and I are sensing some very dark water based magic that literally tried to suck the life out of me," Aylin commented with an air of concern in her voice not taking into account the butler had never met Kai or her current state of dress.

Ayel took great pains to restrain her offense at the words of the masked woman. As she began walking away, Ayel looked down at the place where the pillar had stood. She was able to detect the latent energy that remained from earlier in the ground. Whatever she was after was down there somewhere. The question was obviously, where. She narrowed her eyes (which were hidden in darkness) and she realized that it was still there but something else was keeping her from sensing it.

She sighed very softly. Perhaps, there was more than energy down there. It as even possible that this "Dark Vortex" was alive; not a pleasant thought. But, in any event, the energy was out of her reach for the time being. That's fine. She thought. She glanced around at the others and then back at Hydro. I can be patient, I can wait. But the girl...Ayel once again focused on the girl. It'd seemed like she had pondered the mysterious energy for minutes on end but, the girl was only a few steps away. Finally, she gave her reply to the sharp words of the masked girl.

"What a tongue you have, whelp. Such insolence reeks of two things: inexperience and hubris. I've seen that combination become the ruination of many like you. But, you misunderstand my meaning. I don't want you here; I want what's under Barton. I suppose that the source of the energy I felt earlier is hiding itself from my senses...still, an energy like that cannot be contained forever. And when it returns to the surface again I will be here. But, I won't keep you from leaving if that is what you wish. I don't blame you for wanting to leave. After all, your doppelgangers are keeping them busy but for how long?"

She had a smirk on her face, and though she knew it was not visible she let it come out in her tone. "It's a nice trick...but I'm unimpressed. It's nothing more than a distraction to cover your retreat." She let a bit of her mist form around her feet and begin creeping toward the warrior as she continued. "And that's what it is, isn't girl? A retreat. You can play at being aloof all you want but remember this while you're out for your little stroll: When whatever it is under this place, when it shows itself again, so will those who serve the light. And not just those you see now. Who really knows how many of them will come and then you won't be able to flee by little parlor tricks. So you may take your leave, I care not." She paused as minute as the mist began circling around Hydro's feet. But first, I think I'll taste a little bit of your energy, girly. She thought to herself licking her lips. If this warrior's energy was anything like the pillar's it'd fuel her for a good long while. Even longer than what she sapped from the living things in Barton. Even what could have been two of the Senshi, well one of them in any case.

Sailor Dark Vortex stopped in her tracks. Was this creature really bold enough to steal her energy right from under her? She might have just been acquainted with negative energy, but she certainly could detect it, after all that was her very purpose. "What, I'm supposed to just bend over backwards?" Hydro said, more annoyed than before, and leaped up onto a nearby rooftop away from the mist. She'd just seen a bunch of plants wither because of the mist, she wasn't an idiot. Then she mused aloud, though she allowed Ayel to hear. "Since I did decide to beat the bushes and see what flies out? You're an interesting catch to say the least." Hydro summoned a rose, dark as night to her hand and filled it with energy, and threw it down to the shadowy figure. "If it is energy you desire, plenty will be coming. It's been waiting for thousands of years, it can wait much, much longer. I'd prefer to get things rolling here, so, it would be better to avoid altercation now, yes? Just know, I don't take my orders from you." Then she put on a sappy voice. "Bye bye for now."

She walked along the roof top, searching for her dopples. So far, she sensed them in different places, so she strolled toward the nearest one.

Prim was fortunate enough to have Charm, Aylin and Kai guide her to safety. She felt uneasy about going into the Manor, especially after what Aylin had said; but she didn't have much choice if she wanted to stay alive. "Okay.." Prim gave a reluctant nod and followed Aylin to the entrance.
