A peculiar looking canine, something of a hound of sorts, wandered the streets and alleyways around Death City. Was it a stray? Well... It could pass as one but no, it was not. It was just... bored. Frankie didn't know what to do with himself. He knew he probably shouldn't have been wandering around Death City of all places. He, a demon, wasn't so welcomed there and it was probably a dangerous decision to be out and about like that where Weapon-Meister duos could find him and try to kill him. But did he care so much? No. No one would suspect a mutt, would they? This blows... He thought, scratching at his ear. He wanted something exciting to happen. Some action! Some crazy-full blown plan to... do whatever the heck someone wanted to do. 'Mercenary for hire'... Pff, please, he'd hardly been called to do anything in months. He'd might as well just go out of business already... Not like it was a business or anything. He just liked to be paid for that stuff. No point in wasting a bunch of energy and risking your own life and get nothing in return, right? Right.

Frankie, out of sheer boredom, barked for little to reason at all. Who knows, maybe someone would hear him and want to come get him or something. He was half-tempted to start chasing his own tail, he was so bored. Nothing to do around here... Absolutely nothing.

Once again wandering the areas in death city, Donovan was in search of something fun to do. As much as he loved all the meaningless classes at the DMA about sorcery and such he loved nice long walks. Occasionally he would do his best to avoid people altogether however, sensing emotions could get exhausting very quickly. If he were to come across negative emotions it would only put him through distress. Something about death city was beginning to grow on him though, he loved the life here. It reminded him of his time back in America along with his siblings at the orphanage. Such memories brought back this fuzzy feeling that made him all warm on the inside. As the streets began to grow more crowded he decided to take a little detour. His time alone was a bitter sweet experience, he really did enjoy making new friends but large crowds bugged him. Even so he could just tune them all out such as the times he had done so back in New York. On his walk he began whistling to himself, no one was around so he was sure no one would mind. Something appeared not too far, it caused him to stop abruptly, his whistle also came to a sudden halt. "What is that? It looks like a...rat. Some overgrown rat. No wait! I'm coming to assumptions too quickly, let me take a closer look." And so Donovan did, he walked a bit closer and discovered it to be what he thought was a dog. "Awww look at you! Hey there little guy, what are you doing back here by yourself? Did you lose your owner? Want me to go help you look for him?" His dull look faded with a a new brightened mood. Donovan didn't bother talking to the animal in those odd voices one would usually make. He was acting playful towards the animal, he didn't notice anything odd about it at all. Sensing emotions was something he felt from every living thing, it was just something his power picked up on. "Want to play fetch or something? Man I wish I had a dog like you. I'd care for it, feed it, and most certainly give it all the attention in the world." His eyes narrowed as he gazed at the dog. "I'm just playing. I'd never take a dog without knowing if it had a master or not. Then again...are you a stray?"

Though Frankie heard footsteps coming his way, he never bothered to move. Eh, most of the time people didn't notice a dog in the alleyway... Unless they were animal lovers. In which case they might call a pound. Not that Frankie even really cared much on whether or not he'd be put in a pound anyway. Heck, it may end up being more fun than sitting in an alleyway. If not then he could escape easily. He'd done it before, he could do it again.

Rat?! How on Earth do I look like an overgrown rat?! He thought to himself. Frankie knew that he looked better than such mutants. Rats... Ugh, such simple minded creatures. He never minded them since he tended to live amongst them but they never intrigued him, really. Nothing interesting ever came from rats. He looked up at the boy, wearing a nonchalant expression as he spoke of 'owners' and 'looking for owners'. Frankie was at least happy that the boy wasn't speaking in the usual babyish tone he'd get. He didn't bother to wag his tail or anything of the sort. It just wasn't his style, really. Fetch? No, thank you. He thought. Eh, he was bored but not that bored. Fetch wasn't something he enjoyed very much. Good practice for running, maybe but it still wasn't something he'd prefer to do. Then the boy inquired on whether or not he was a stray. Not like he could answer, really... Well, he could but it would be a bit of a surprise to him. Eh, who cares? Communication is communication. An answer was an answer. Frankie got up from his laying down position. He sat in front of the boy, looking him directly in the eye. "Yes and no. Depends on your definition of stray. Never had an owner in the first place and I don't technically belong in a city at all. I ain't your average canid." Frankie's voice--his normal, human speaking voice--would echo through the kid's mind. Frankie lifted a paw as if offering to shake hands. "The name's Frankie Wolff. Who're you, kid?"

"The name is Donovan, Donovan wise. Nice meeting yah." He reached out and shook hand and paw with the canine. "Weird how you'd prefer not to play fetch. Thought all dogs loved fetch but I guess your some sort of special exception." Ot was strange meeting a talking dog, mostly because that was something he thought unexpected. Despite visiting the Netherworld he still couldn't fathom the other mysteries on the planet. "So what brings you to death city, not that its all that exclusive. About that...who says you don't belong here? You have just as much a right to be here as the next fella, so long as you aren't some trouble making devious type. Then I guess they'd have to enforce some type of punishment on your head...wait! Are you some sort of criminal with a bounty on your head!?" Donovan gave a suspicious look but in the end he really didn't care. "No...you seem nice. Besides if you didn't belong then it isn't really my problem is it? Unless you start doing things to an extreme...then I'd try to take you on, not that I'd bring myself up to kill a furry little guy like you. It feels funny talking to an animal and having it talk back, feels nice though. Normally I'm shy around other people, talking to you is much less scary." The young boy gave a small laugh. "I was like you once, when I...went down my own path, I had no where to go. Then I found the DMA and they took me in, they gave me knowledge and all the support I could ever have. Wow, listen to me go on. I'm not trying to convince you to enroll or anything, just thinking out loud a bit." Scratching the back of his head he looked around to see if anyone was nearby, he didn't want people thinking he had gone mad. He was talking to an animal after all. "For a dog you sure seem to have an average voice, I expected someone of your looks to have a different tone of voice." Seconds pass and he realizes that the dog had started talking to him telepathically, his voice was inside his mind. "A telepath! Sweet! I've never met one of those before, you really aren't like any other normal dog Frankie. Your one talented creature."

Frankie grinned, showing his canine teeth upon hearing that he was a 'special exception'. Of course he was! Hell hounds were extraordinary. He listened as Donovan went on about 'belonging here'. Good point, it wasn't some oh-so-exclusive club, Death City. Perhaps he felt he didn't belong because he didn't really have much of a home here. He wanted to laugh when he asked if he had a bounty on his head. Well... You could put it that way.

He let Donovan go on. Boy, was he a talker... Frankie made a mental note not to tell him much of anything in terms of secrets. Who knows, maybe he'd end up yapper to someone else about it. Donovan mentioned something about taking him on. That boy take him on? Pff, sure. Good luck, kiddo. He thought to himself. Frankie knew he was nothing special but his cockiness got the better of him at the mere mention of someone challenging him. It was something he probably should work on...

Different voice? What kind of voice was he expecting from a canine, anyway? Now he was curious... Eh, whatever. The question, though it intrigued him, wasn't really something he thought worth of asking. "Oh, thanks.~ 'Cause I'm not really a dog. A wolf--I'm a wolf. Well... a hybrid, really. Werewolf and Hellhound. Hold on a sec, would ya? I just need to get into something a bit more... comfy." He said to Donovan as he stood from his sitting position. Frankie then, slowly, shifted into a human form. Losing the fur. He still had some canine-like teeth and still had ears and a tail. Now in flesh instead of fur, Frankie stood on two legs. He stretched his arms before putting his hands in his own pockets. "Much better, ain't it?" Instead of telepathically, he spoke as one normally would, with their own voice and such.

"D-Don't call me kid! Please..." The young lad looked down with his face red. The canine had managed to get him flustered but he couldn't exactly show any aggression, he always had this positive uplifting nature about him. "I'm not good at being mad. P-Please don't underestimate me either!" Truthfully Donovan was just fine talking to a dog rather then another human or humanoid typed entity. As Frankie went on he twiddled with his index fingers. "Sorry," Donovan mumbled. He was sorry for calling him a dog on multiple occasions. When he realized his voice was low he knew he had to speak a bit louder for him to hear. "Sorry! I mean...sorry for calling you a dog. I didn't know you were a hybrid werewolf...hellbound?" His apology stopped once he came across a word describing a race he was unfamiliar with. "Hellbound...? Is that another species derived from the typical canine? Anyways I'm sorry again." Taking a few steps back, he was expecting something a bit more different. "So is that your humanoid form...? I'd prefer if you stayed as a stray dog I could take in but I guess not. Still nice form, I didn't expect you to be that old. In dog years you seemed younger."

Frankie couldn't help but laugh at Donovan's display of both embarrassment and frustration. It was cute--adorable, really. Of course, that wasn't something he was going to go on saying out loud. "It's alright, mate. Ya didn't know." He gave him a reassuring smile. Quite the sweet kid, Donovan. A good person to be acquainted with. Perhaps useful for his little 'business' later. He heard the term 'hellbound' used instead of 'hellhound'. Perhaps he misheard him... "A Hellhound," he put emphasis on the word 'hound' to correct what he may have heard previously, "is pretty much just another kind of wolf. But we're bigger and stronger than your average mutt. Some people call us Demon Hounds or Devil Hounds, it's all the same really. Just another way of saying 'big *** wolf that can possibly breathe fire or rip people to shreds in an instant'." Frankie shrugged, as though it were really nothing. To him, it wasn't much. He never really thought much of it. It was nothing too powerful. Not like the big-guys.

When he said sorry again, Frankie shook his head. "Nah, you're good. It's fine, Don. Can I call you that? Don?" He inquired. Frankie would hate to give a nickname that he hated. He may have been a tease sometimes but not like that, that was just rude. "Eh, I'm not that old. Just 22. Human years. I don't really go by dog years, I find them to be silly considering my... condition, I guess. Like I've said, not exactly your normal dog." He laughed a little at his own joke. "Say, why're you in the alleyways, anyway? Backroads like this ain't safe. All kinds of criminal things happen in alleyways."

"Oh...sorry! I didn't mean to disrespect your species or anything! Honest!" Donovan looked at him nervously, he wondered why he was smiling exactly but he didn't think about it for too long. "Hellhound..." Donovan repeated the word just so he could get it right. "I think I did it that time." The young lad smiled triumphantly. "Must be some wolf if your that strong, I wish I knew what species of demon I was...I'm not exactly sure 'what' I am at the moment. The only thing that lets me know is my abilities, and my eyes. Red isn't your average color for a human after all." When Frankie went on Donovan felt a bit more happy. "I'd love to have a nickname. Don sounds alright with me, my normal name is a bit too long for me anyways." The more Frankie spoke the more Donovan felt relieved. He seemed nice and not someone he wouldn't want to usually be around. I was just hanging around death city, I'm not really doing much except minding my own business. You see I just came back from the Netherworld and I still felt like keeping away from the DMA, not that I need to go there. Most of the time I spend there is spent learning about stuff that isn't exactly my idea of learning. Some of it is important but the whole reason I went there was so I could control my powers. Speaking of which, I can rip my heart outside of my body and use it as a weapon so there isn't any need to worry. This guy knows what he's doing!" Donovan gave him a thumbs up with a reassuring smile and wink.

Frankie laughed at little at the boy's nervous reaction to his correct on names. "Nah, nah. It's cool, kid. Don't worry 'bout it." He grinned. He nodded when Don had gotten it right. When he heard him talk of having red eyes and not knowing what he was, Frankie looked a little puzzled. Having looked at the boy's soul, using his natural ability of soul perception, he could tell--for the most part--what he was. "Well, you're a demon, aren't ya? Are ya looking for what breed or somethin'?" He said, sticking his hands in his pockets and tilting his head to he side slightly with curiosity.

When he said that nicknames were okay, he smiled. Good. Frankie would probably call him Don anyway, even if he wasn't fond of it. He heard Don's little story, nodding the whole time. Tearing his own heart out? Wouldn't that hurt? Yeesh... That's a little extreme. "Yikes... Does it hurt? Rippin' your heart out like that, I mean. "

"K-Kid!? I'm not that young...and yeah. I know I'm a demon but what I don't know is my breed. Have you ever heard of a demon that rips the hearts out of people and uses them as weapons? My whole existence is odd..." After a sigh he realized that he was acting way too depressed in front of Frankie. Perking up he put on a smile. "It hurts the first time but after that it just feels weird, like someone is tickling you in the heart." The shy boy realized how odd he was and held his head down in shame. "I'm such a freak..." Donovan whispered that last part, he usually was insecure about himself so this wasn't new to him. Of course every time he got depressed in front of a person he decided not to show that part of him and quickly act like the happiest person in the world. "Enough about me, I'm not that interesting. How about you? Tell me about yourself. You can trust me. We're best friends from this point on!" Surprisingly the boy didn't seem to be holding anything back, he declared Frankie his friend right away. It was sort of like putting your ice in a strangers life and seeing how that would pan out, that was of course a terrible dramatization of a much worse situation.

He couldn't help but grin at the odd mix of embarrassment, self-pity, and self-loathing that Don was showing. What a strange kid... Then again, Frankie wasn't one to judge. Not that being strange was bad in his mind, on the contrary he found it to be a privilege to be different or strange. It made life just a little more fascinating and action-packed. Nevertheless, he saw that the boy was getting a little insecure and decided to say something. "Eh, don't worry 'bout it, Don. We're all pretty much freaks. I mean, for gods' sake, it's not everyday you run into a hellhound-werewolf hybrid, right? Besides, being freaky just means the ordinary people won't get ya. So, screw 'em 'cause they ain't worth the time." He laughed a little, remembering when he used to think like that. He always saw himself as a bit of a weirdo, especially considering his occupation. But it was what he did that really snapped him out of that mindset.

He stayed silent a little, thinking about what to say to answer his question. "Well, mate, that's a tall order you got there. The full name's Frankie Wolff. Hellhound, but you already knew that. I'm sort of a... Freelance-fighter if ya get what I mean. Some people say I'm a traitor but I'm really just doin' my job. Don't really side with anyone 'cept for if they are reliable. Never really cared 'bout any side. Mm, what else is there? Oh, yeah! I can breathe fire. It's a neat little party trick, that's for sure. Useful for fightin' too." He gave a little tiny puff of smoke from his mouth just for kicks. He laughed a little, shrugging afterwards. "That's 'bout all there is know, really." He paused there, letting stuff sink in. "Say, kid, how's about we get going somewhere else? People'll talk if they see two demons makin' small-talk in a dark alleyway. Ya know how people can get."

Like before he was confused as to why Frankie had an odd face on. It made him feel a bit awkward but that all changed rather quickly. Listening in admiration to Frankie's inspirational words made him feel a little bit better about himself before his confidence skyrocketed. Frankie had no idea how much more confident it made the young lad. "Maybe your right. Who wants to be ordinary anyways?" Donovan laughed a bit, he was more reassuring this time. "And you really don't get to see any hybrids like you that much. Only on a really random day like this I guess." When Frankie began to grow silent he wondered what he could have said wrong. As he started speaking he just rolled his eyes. "Tall order? Hmmm...looks like I'll have to stock up on money. Or do you prefer doggie treats?" Saying that last part as a joke he snickered to himself quietly. "Whether or not your a freelancer I don't really care. Friends are friends and all that. Betray me though and you'll hurt my feelings. Think of doing that and I won't be able to rip your heart out and use it as a weapon..." As ridiculous as it sounded, he was right. In order to form an empathic link there had to be some form of trust between the two linked together, otherwise Donovan wouldn't be able to manifest the other person's heart. "If you ever get payed to kill me...which I don't ever see happening, remember that I can probably pay you more. Trust me when I say I can throw a bone...or two!" His wise cracks were really having a major impact on himself. Though this was the perfect opportunity to come up with thousands of funny canine jokes, unfortunately at the expense of Frankie. After he was done laughing, tears swelled up in his eyes. "I'm sorry Frankie. Its just that I love jokes...no hard feelings. I promise no more doggie jokes for an entire week." Gleefully happy he smiled back at the fellow demon. "Your tricks are pretty cool, I've never seen anyone that could breathe fire before." He watched with amazement as Frankie blew out little puffs of smoke. Donovan started clapping the moment the smoke just faded away. "Not bad, not bad at all!" Curious as to why people would think there is something wrong with two demons talking in a dark alleyway, he looked at Frankie tilting his head a bit. He had to think about war he had just said a few moments before realizing what he had meant. "Oh yeah...I guess. To hell with them though! They're probably just jealous because they're ordinary. But I see where your coming from. Lets go then, keep doing that smoke puff trick though! I wanna see more."

Frankie sighed at the dog joke. Oh boy... He knew that he was gonna get a ton of these. Heck, he already had gotten a bunch throughout his life, but he figured he'd get more of those in the City. He got over the joke though, and nodded a little at Don's words. Though he didn't fully understand, he took it into mind. Betray him? Well, it was possible that it might happen. So, no promises there but he'd remember that for sure. No trust equaled no getting his own heart ripped out. Not that Frankie ever trusted people upon meeting them for the first time anyway...

Now that pun was a good one. Frankie couldn't help but laugh a little at it. Okay, so it wasn't a good pun really, but it was that was hard to not laugh at. Especially since Don, over there, was laughing like a hyena about it. After Don had agreed to change locations, he smiled again. "Alright then, how about we wander a little bit, yeah? You got anywhere you need to go?" He figured he'd ask. Frankie knew that not everyone had such an open ended schedule like he did.

"Nope! Not a place to go...or need to really go for that matter. I think I've got an idea on where to go. What about the park? I'm not saying that just because...well you know, I just think it'll be nice and all. Is that okay with you? And just so I make this clear I'll tell your right now. You don't need to follow me around, I'm fine following you, if you don't mind that of course. My life has reached a pint in which I've got loaded amounts of freedom. Times I have to go somewhere so I could learn how to control my powers, but other than learningg stuff like that there isn't any need for me to go there." Donovan looked up to Frankie and smiled. Wondering how he thought Frankie was a rat in the first place he carefully evaluated his characteristics. "Sorry if you heard what I called you before, your clearly not a rat. From time to time I think I should wear glasses, the way my vision fails me occasionally." Instead of more laughter he just smirked. Glad that he had made Frankie laugh his smirk only grew bigger. "Park it is then?"

Frankie nodded and was about to say something but then let Don go on his little rambling about following. He was slightly confused as to what he meant exactly, putting two and two together when he mentioned what he assumed was the DMA. "It's alright, mate. I'm sure they wouldn't wanna see my face there anyway. I've kinda, er... Helped out in a few things against 'em." He laughed a little, remembering those few 'things'. Like he mentioned before, he was a freelancer. From time to time he would be with DMA and then other times he would be against DMA, no big deal. Not like he really cared about either way, anyway. If it meant he would be getting his fair pay, he'd do it. When Don mentioned earlier, he laughed a little. "Heh, I get what ya mean. My vision ain't the best either." He joked. Although his vision was as good as the average dog, he did have his moments where it would not be so great. Although, that was partially due to his being color blind. "Yeah, sure. Why not." He answered to him asking if the park was alright. Frankie began to walk out of the alleyway and into the more open parts of the city to get to the park. It wasn't that far, just around the corner, really.

(Exit to the park)
