Another rope piece, another approach. This one was tied in a way that mocked tying a boot-lace, a sort of crooked bow-esque thing that might have work had he known how to properly execute it.

He admired his handiwork as he had before, sure that this one was going to be the one. Instead, when he pulled on the end to test it, the piece just fell into his lap in one long segment.

"What." he groaned, picking it up to try again.

Patience was not a virtue known by Thackery. He was an eager sort of pup, and rather liked getting everything on an immediate gratification basis. This wasn't working very well during his multiple slip-knot attempts. To see failure after failure was more embarrassing than frustrating, but it didn't stop him from feeling the latter.

"It's just a dumb knot, why is it not happening?" he whined, tying it again. A dumb knot did happen, but it wasn't the dumb knot that he wanted.

He sighed through his teeth and dropped it into his steadily growing pile.

Clearly he wasn't going to be able to do this by himself.

He took a moment to just sit and watch the other students, taking in the techniques that were working well for the others. His fingers still nimbly moved at the rope, attempting to mimic exactly what he was seeing. It probably would have done him some good to look at his work at intermittent points throughout his mimicry, however. The knot he ended up with didn't look a thing like his classmate's, and ended up in the little pile with the others.

This time was going to be the time.

He knew it.

He rose to stand again, head held high, and took a deep breath of the thick air. With a fresh length of rope in his hands, he watched another classmate once more, following it step by step as he had before. This time, however, he glanced down at his own knot-in-progress throughout the process, ensuring that it matched the knot that the the other student was making.

In the end, his plan seemed to have paid off. It wasn't the best of slip-knots, but it served its purpose.

"Oooh, I can't wait to show Ash how good I am at tying knots," he happily mused aloud, turning the rope over in his hands.

The knot slid easily in his hands, and Thackery watched it moved with glossed-over eyes. Why was he here? What was he even supposed to be doing? He knew that his fingers felt like they had lost three...maybe four layers of skin, and that there were lots of painful rope fibers wedged beneath his fingernails, but wasn't he supposed to be doing something with this rope?

Another rope attacked him with a dull strike to his shoulder, and Thackery turned to find a grinning classmate with the other end of the rope in their hand. Right! Lassoing!

"Nice throw! But mine will be better."

In a shocking turn of events, his confidence was, for once, properly mirrored in his throw. He hadn't twirled it or done any of the other fancy ropework that some of his nearby classmates were attempting, but the toss was solid, sailing in their direction to loop around their head.

"Aw, yeah! Got you, got you~" he announced in singsong, dancing with pride to remove the rope from their shoulders. "Nice to meet you, ropebuddy." After returning the grin, he stood on his tippytoes to find another target.

Result: success!

There were several familiar faces in the small crowd of students, but roping someone was a bit of a technical practice. Thackery knew this because he'd had a great amount of experience in roping his classmates: five minutes of lassoing brought on a whole lifetime of knowledge when a surging ego was inflated even more by a successful capture.

He finally settled on Lacie, the nice ghoul who'd offered him a tissue back on the Death Island. He kept his fingers crossed that she wouldn't hold the choice against him - that wouldn't bode very well for his hopes of friendship.

Cautiously trying to avoid tousling her hair or hitting her in the face, he threw the rope towards her. It looped around her as easily as it had looped around his first opponent, and he gave the rope a gentle, playful tug in excitement.

"Sorry I had to catch you, Lacie. But I was careful!" He removed the lasso from the ghoul and offered a half-hug in gratitude.

result: success x2!

Just one more to lasso.

He moved on the edges of the group, circling them like a predator might its prey. Except predators were usually actually intimidating, and Thackery was just a ridiculously-dressed Cerberus boil with a rope.

His gaze fell on the hellhound he'd met at an assembly months and months ago. Demi, wasn't it? With a sly smile, he advanced on him, preparing to ambush. But his excitement got the best of him, and he just went bounding forward with a war cry of "Aaaaah I'm gonna catch you, too!"

The rope was in the air once more. Though his previous captures went relatively smoothly, this one was the best of all. It dropped down right over his head and looped around him snugly, leaving less wiggle room than the two before. Thrilled, he threw himself this time, catching him in a hug.

"Hurrah! Did you see that? Huh?"

result: success x3!

Yet again, Aleria's roped failed to be knotted properly.

What a pain!

[[ i am super dumb so starting over ;; ]]

Quote:
STEP ONE: Making the knot.
Roll one, 6-sided dice.
1-2: You just knotted the rope. Try again.
3-4: Success! You are free to move onto step two.
5-6: You tie the knot, but then it unravels. Try again.
You only need to successfully roll this once. Keep trying again if you don't roll a 3 or 4! But once you have your knot, you may move onto step two.

Aleria growled at the rope, slowly undoing their work so that it would be free of the knots.

Another knot. The demon felt like tearing their hair out, staring at the rope almost forlornly.

Notably, it is known, that it is never not knots. No, not not-nots, but not not-knots.

Aleria grumped.

[[ doing some of the same people again since the first round did not count ]]

Aleria grinned, lassoing Thackery. "Got you, tiny canine!"

Two for two thus far! What an excellent start to this class. They peered around, spotting a rather elaborate looking dragon, aiming for them next.

Success.
