Maldryk watched the two latest hatchlings greet each other, then go their separate ways - the green to the girls and the blue to the boys. Good, that was how it should be. Despite being aware that the two smaller colors chose anyone they liked, regardless of someone's preferences, the idea of having a female dragon was...disturbing to him. He didn't want anything to do with all that Flight nonsense! Ugh. He had to suppress a shudder just thinking about it.

The green toddled towards the girls, broadcasting love and affection in her attempt to cheer them up while simultaneously searching their hearts for Hers. She knew, very keenly, that something was wrong, very very wrong and well, it seemed to inspire even greater effort in this little one as she cooed and called and flapped still-wet wings.
She paused only briefly to stare into the eyes of Kindra for a very very long time - so long, in fact, that some thought she'd impressed. But then the green trilled and moved on, having decided against the girl. She swept past Dezima, rubbing against her side and chirruped up at the candidate before pressing onward, deeper and deeper into the girl's ranks. Where was Hers hiding? Why was she hiding?
And the blue walked proudly, his bearing similar to that of a bronze despite the curled lip when he looked in their direction. Did this one bear a grudge against a clutchmate? Or simply dislike the other colours? There had been rivalries this soon out of the egg before....
He tossed his head and called, beating useless wings as he filled his lung full to bellow his summons. Then he waited, watching the boys to see who would react, come forward, unaware of the danger that was his mother not two dragonlengths behind.

Quite unexpected, she found herself smiling as the green rubbed against her side in her search for Hers. Oh she was a sweetheart! Dezima hoped that Hers was equally as sweet. The weyrbrat grinned and muttered a small, "Thanks.", to the green for her concern of how they all felt. The bellow that rose from the blue over by the boys startled her and she glanced that way. What...was he doing? Just standing there. And waiting. What? Did he expect someone to walk out to him instead? Dezima cringed a little at the though, eyes going towards the Queen. That was a daring challenge indeed, the blue was offering.

Who could that green possibly be looking for? Lilah eyed the other Candidates she stood near, the other smart ones (or just late ones) at the back, and tried to decide which girl it might be. This was clearly a very lovey-dovey green, so who around here was a fit for that? She kept an eye on the newborn's movements, though, never completely trusting even the nice hatchlings. They could still get clumsy or frustrated.

F'law finally reached out to touch the blue dragonette for the first time. His fingers bumbled in trying to scratch the eye ridge. The hide was soft, if still damp from birth. Like this Mine. Zurith showed him quickly the best way to rub eye ridges. His eyes half closed and whirled a happy blue. A soft hum escaped him; now his rider had it.
He modified his rubbing as per instructions and had to smile at the result.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ She shifted among the girls. There was a green dragon among them. A very sweet and loving green too. Emkin wondered who her rider would be. She peeked over another girl's shoulder to catch a look at the lovely green.
B'nen found the task of feeding his new brown slightly more difficult than his twin did his bronze, if only because Gneisth insisted on a welcoming trill to every single new dragon to approach the feeding tables. He'd've likely insisted on more than that had B'nen not explained there was a whole Hatching Feast yet to come where Gneisth could speak with the others all he liked, and really, he did need to finish eating first.
B'nen's thoughts echoed his twins' when a grief-maddenned Yirath looked as if she might strike one of the female candidates; glad that Gneisth had hatched earlier and both of them were safely out of the way. It seemed unthinkable the gold would attempt to harm any of her offspring, but how long had it been since anyone had experienced firsthand a queen in this state?
By the time he was sure Gneisth was absolutely full, he looked to the Sands to see a green and blue looking for Theirs. The green was a curious one, looking so closely at a few of the girls yet not seeming to Impress yet, and that blue...he was a bit of a noisy thing, wasn't he?
Gneisth interjected agreeably. Noting that most of his clutchmates who'd Impressed were still eagerly stuffing themselves, he turned to Stromath instead for company, padding over to the bronze and nudging him companionably. he observed, also noting their clutchmates' goodbyes to their mother. Yes, it would be very sad, but then there would be plenty of other things to be happy about? There was no need to dwell on the bad!
With the green safely at a distance, picking through the girls, Mal focused his attention solely on the blue. What was this one on about? Was he trying to call them out, to get his rider to come to him instead of the other way around? Now, he didn't know too much about dragons yet, but surely that was inviting disaster. They'd been told, very explicitly, not to approach, and Yirath herself had made it crystal clear that there was good reason for that.
Would anyone step up? If they did, what would happen to them? Not feeling particularly suicidal today, the young man didn't budge, just stood and watched, shaking his head.
Pahlen cocked his head, still caught slightly in front of Jordan and the rest of the end of the line by his abortive movement towards girl who'd tripped over that Green.
What was he...was he calling for someone? He glanced behind him to look at the other boys, sweeping across their expressions for understanding or that strange, beatific pole-axed Impression face. He looked back at the blue dragonet, standing at all but attention with flared wings and the look of someone who expected an answer and was not at all impressed by what it was seeing.
Without meaning to, he made a gesture, then stifled it just as quickly, abruptly too aware of the fact that people were watching him. Me?
Nyosh shifted in her seat. Watching the affectionate green with the girls and the loud blue sitting. No one had rushed forward to claim the blue yet. She could understand why seeing Yirath so close behind him. Would the blue make his rider come out?
Seeing the gold nearly strike down one of the girls was terrifying to see. Kahar just barely managed to keep himself planted in place as he watched. Granted, it was her fault for rushing out like that, but he still didn't want anything bad to happen!
More eggs hatched and they've all impressed without too much trouble. There were still a handful of unhatched eggs remaining, and there were the two that were currently out on the sands, searching for Theirs.
Fidgeting a little, he found his gaze shifting from the two young dragons, to their mother. His eyes didn't really linger on any one thing for too long.
The green continued in her meandering, looping path into the girl's ranks, head up to peer at all the girls she passed and still none of them caught her own heart. She called out once or twice as she pushed into the furthest ranks from the front and at last spotted hers. Lilahmine! You are wise to be back here but you were far away from your Rhodonth! Feed yours?The blue watched the boys with a critical eye, noting those who stepped forward and shook his head, turning his attention away from them. They were not the right ones... why hadn't His stepped forward? Calling again, less loud and more searching, he started forward again as another egg burst and the slick hide of a newly born brown tumbled onto the sands from the Questionable Egg. He rolled to his feet and creeled up to his mother as he padded over to lean his body against hers. He nosed at her skin, tail and wings drooping from the weight of goo and it seemed for a moment he would not move from that place. Though whether he were comforting his mother or craving the contact, it was hard to tell and while she indulged him for a moment or two, she nosed him towards the Candidate with a croon of a mother putting on a brave face. He stumbled away and she guided him with her tail until he was turned about properly and facing the candidates. The rumble and whirl of her eyes, however, as she looked out at them dared the youths to be foolish enough to come forward. More eggs began to rock and twist and at last the Gold egg began to shake as well, wiggling to and fro, to and fro with much activity. Was it soon to hatch?
Alainmine, what are you doing? The young blue looked over at his mother and siblings that just hatched. His eyes took on a slight red tinge. A'in handed Troiseth some more meat as he thought of the new hatchlings. "It is nothing, Mine. Just thinking of your brother there. How he seems to think His should come to him."
He kept most of his attention on His and felt what could only be considered a chuckle from the young blue. Toriseth turned an eye and couldn't help but see what A'in thinking.
*My brother seems impatient.*
Mya paused in the gentle stroking of the warm hide and stared down at Hers, eyebrow raised slightly. "So he's demanding that his find him?"
Mawsith nodded and tossed her head in the direction of the Sands, where her little sister was making her rounds about the female candidates and her brother stood like a statue. If she could, the Green would have smirked at her siblings' insistent call.
"Isn't you calling him impatient calling the kettle black?"
A snort, and Mya giggled into her fist as Mawsith took on the air of 'I don't know what you're talking about.'
"Admit it, love."
Mawsith snorted and rolled her eye to glance at Hers.
*I was determined to find you. He is content to simply stand there and wait. We are different.*
"Suuuuuree, you are." She laughed again when the hatchling launched an irritated snap of the jaws at her. Only the whirl of the constant blue/green ruined the effect.
Not one to linger on one emotion for to long, unless it truly couldn't be helped, Halifanth had cheered up again, now that Yirath seemed to be, if not content, then somewhat more at peace to curl around her eggs and give each hatchling a moment before sending them on to their new futures. Neck craned again and head tilted so she could watch the action below, her tailtip had resumed its excited twitching. Look, more little ones!
Even the little ones aren't so little, Eliaza countered, seizing on her dragon's cheer and letting it lift her spirits again. And they won't stay little for very long at all. You certainly didn't, and look at the way they eat.
We will have to eat when this is finished, Halifanth decided, reminded of her own appetite. After we have said hello.
Eliaza grinned openly. Yes, of course, after.
----
Orthoth certainly made himself known as he reached the tables laden with meat for the new hatchlings. Bugling an enthusiastic greeting to his clutchsibs and Theirs, he glanced back at Cormeric -- who wandered after him still in something of a daze -- to hurry him along. THEY ARE EATING WITHOUT US, MINE! COME AND FEED ME TOO! Without waiting, he turned his attention back to the table and the dragons and asked, IS THIS GOOD MEAT? IT SMELLS VERY GOOD!
Leaving an embarrassed young man, wincing and half smiling, to jog up to the table beside him, one broad hand landing on the bronze's hide. "I-I'm here, I'm here. I'll feed you, easy." Grin widening again, he added, "You d-don't have to shout." He looked around the table as he reached for a chunk of meat. "Sorry about that."
Meat in his mouth, Orthoth nearly immediately forgot that it was full in favor of blatting out another brassy hello to the blue and green now searching for Theirs. And spattering His, at the very least, with bits of his meal.
When the green finally made it to the back, Lilah fully intended to move out of the way, just in case...but just as she was stepping to the side, the dragonet spoke to her, freezing her to her spot for a long moment. There was, that was...how in Faranth's name...
I love you, Mine, but we should get off the Sands before something happens, Rhodonth interrupted the girl's half-thoughts. And we should talk to the others, and eat. I am very hungry.
"...right." Happy - even someone like Lilah had to be happy in this moment! - but also completely shellshocked, she made her way to the feeding tables with Hers.
Hello! the green broadcast to her siblings as they arrived. No one has choked yet? Good.
