What happens to a sailor soldier's cell phone if they're turned into a parallel soldier? Is it still usable to contact other senshi, or do they no longer have access to it?

Shazari: http://recyclemycellphone.org/

rosemilk: As Shaz said: it no longer works.

Can Scheelite come and stare endlessly at Gene's shiny new starseed lantern thing? It's huge, it's glowy, and holy dear god does he want to poke at it.

Or hug it.

Or steal it.

He is the moth to that flame.

codalion: Ray is considering glow-in-the-dark-paint + plumbob = no difference right.

Shazari: What if Gene just buys Schee a lava lamp.

If you put one of those on Scheelite's head he would never get any work done -ever- because he'd be too busy chasing it XD "GUYS. GUYS. THERE IS THIS GLOWY THING -RIGHT THERE- BUT I CAN'T GET IT ;___;"

Cuter: Something tells me Scheelite wouldn't last very long out in the wild...

So, when a Cavalier plugs with a Senshi, their starseed wraps around the Senshi's (which implies a Nega can't try and corrupt/steal their starseed while they're plugged), I think I got it.
However, what happens if a Nega assaults that Senshi? Do they notice the second starseed? Is the Senshi's starseed protected? Can they steal try and steal/corrupt it? Anything?
I ask this more out of curiosity than anything, so if you haven't figured out the details/don't know/I'm not supposed to know, I can deal with it.

Shazari: I plead the fifth. ^_~

Also, I thought I saw somewhere that a Senshi's starseed goes back to the Space Cauldron once its owner is dead, and is extremely difficult to break/consume/whatever.
BUT.
After killing Sagittarius, Obsidian was given authorisation to consume his starseed, and so he did IIRC. Is Obsidian just that badass, did Jude's starseed still return to the Cauldron, or am I just retarded and I missed something?

Shazari: Ah -- it's not a particular mark of badassness, no. Think of a senshi starseed like a rechargable battery -- what Obsidian essentially did was drain all the charge out of that battery by consuming it. (An effect on Obsidian which isn't permanent.) Now fully drained, it's gone back to the Space Cauldron to be reborn and recharged.

Okay, I get it, thanks a lot!

Just a silly question of note I wanted to ask, regarding mainly surnames, though some names could be questionable for being a first-name issue.

I'm fairly sure that the answer would be no, but is it possible for a Senshi/Negaversian name to also be a character's surname?
(E.G. a bit extreme, but if Soandso's last name was Neptune or Beryl, would that be allowed?)
Note that I'm not referring to the above characters specifically, it was but an example. I know that some given names not used by civilians wouldn't be allowed anyhow due to similarity issues (Charon as a first name sticks out a bit, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone with the first name Iris would be a no-go), so I thought I'd ask first.

Shazari: We do have some instances of things like this happening, but I generally prefer when people avoid overlap. For example, even with non-full overlap, you run into situations such as the story Parley, where the title lists Alexandros as "Alex." Well, we also have a civilian character named Alex, so already that's a bit confusing when you're trying to figure out who's in a thread before you click on it! So already you can see why this is difficult, even when we CAN refer to a character in full as "Alexander" versus "Alexandros" in most circumstances.

Thus, as for full overlap, I'd advise against that because it means you CAN'T refer to someone in, say, the shop thread and immediately know you all mean the same person. If I shout out, "I THINK I'M GONNA DRAW IRIS," people might not know if I meant Sailor Iris, or Iris Jones, civilian. It forces people to make a distinction mentally between the Default Iris (aka the Real Iris, to them) and the Other Iris (aka the Bizarro Iris), and that's no fun for anyone. So I'd suggest not choosing a Bizarro name, if you have the option. <3

LizzyMoo: Does this mean Bizarro Iris would speak normally?

Shazari: Yes. biggrin

While researching for which spheres and powers were taken I came across some sailors that use weapons in their attacks. The best example is Sailor Proxima

I'm confused because many people told me before that senshi's can't use any kind of weapons in their attacks, only negas can. I want to know the staff's say on this.

What I'm asking is: When exactly is a senshi allowed to have a weapon?

Natsube: As far as I am concerned, there are two reasons to have ART of your character with a weapon: you are a Captain (please see Aries and Pegasus, both with weapons/items) or you are a metaplot character. Or you were meant to be a captain (Proxima) but that plot has fallen by the wayside (i think) Weapons, PHYSICAL weapons, are Captain only-- and you can't just be a captain out of the gate-- you'd have to create a team. That being said, for the teams that DO have captains, you can ask for a weapon in art, but as with other items, they would only be able to be summoned for the attack. Weapons for normal characters should be made of energy/used in an attack, but not carried around AT ALL.

TL;DR: You can't have a Senshi with a weapon unless we give you a senshi with a weapon.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind, Thanks. <3

Can Senshi/Negaverse/etc. be photographed?

Cuter: Yes sir! When photographed, they'll continue to have their glamour so all anyone will ever see is their senshi/nega form - Sailor Nea, for example, made it into the newspaper, TV news, cell phone cameras, youtube, etc etc. She could be recognized as Nealite (to those who knew who Nealite was), but her civilian identity as Ursula Johnson continued to be a well kept secret.

I'm coming across this issue fairly often when marking quests, so, asking for a bit of boundary clarification: when is a senshi attack too similar to an existing one to be acceptable?

Bear with me, here, laying out some methodology -- thinking about what I personally do when I'm looking at an attack, and there's a few criteria I can break it down into in terms of uniqueness as well as sphere-fitting and whether it's appropriately powerful.

- Target: one, multiple or self-targetting? Or is it an AoE? Does the attack have a range or other limitations on who it can hit?
- Execution: What fancy moves come into play when using the attack - basically, what does it LOOK like, and how does it play out? Is the attack instantaneous or does it have a time limit?
- Effect: SELF-EXPLANATORY. Does it damage, deflect, immobilize, heal, etc, etc? What does it do to the target / what can you expect to happen if you're caught in the area of effect?

Right now I'm going on the assumption that the EFFECTS can be similar -- e.g. we can expect that attacks from fire spheres are probably going to burn, there's only so many ways you can spell the word "heal," and so on and so forth -- but the specifics around it regarding target and execution should be different.

For example, Sailor Atlas's effect for his normal attack is "immobilize targets with a terrible weight." However, it's an area of effect attack with a specified time limit -- so if someone else wanted their senshi to immobilize targets with a terrible weight, they would be welcome to do that, but instead of making an AoE out of it they would have to make the target heavier, make a bunch of weights spontaneously appear on the target, or something along those lines.

ETA: But mileage may vary with the 'substance' of the attack, e.g. Taranis is probably going to be the only senshi causing damage with sand.

Am I making any sense here, is this the right way to go about it, any other advice?

Shazari: Your method sounds good to me!

codalion: Agree, that sounds fine to me.

Is the 'Arbor Day Comes Early' RP finished? Or is there still posts to be made? I just wasn't sure when it could be counted for growth reqs.

Cuter: THAT ONE WAS MY BAD. I had assumed it'd been closed when it had not - I've posted a wrap up, so feel free to count it towards your growths now! My apologies, and a huge thank you to you and all who participated! heart

EDIT: Another question I thought of. Can we do past memories as solos? Like if our character lived somewhere else before coming to DC could we do a slice of life solo from where they lived before?

Shazari: I don't see why not?

RE: Senshi weapons

Is it safe to assume that Spinel has his bandolier on him at all times and if he so chooses can play a jaunty tune with his bells? Or should I assume the bells have no clapper and thusly are useless except when being used as an attack? Or does he keep the bandolier but it is merely shiny decorative until he is attacking? HELP ME OBI-WAN GEE-EM-BI-S, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE.

codalion: I'd go with the first one. <3 Just my $.02.

Soooo I was wondering around the Accepted quest threads and the quest compendium. I just happened to notice something.

There's

Sailor Ares Senshi of smoke the Parallel
Sailor Aries Senshi of Bravery the Zodiac
Cavalier Aeris of the Mountain

Are they all said the same? Or are their pronunciations different?

Prophet: Those are all different.

Ares is the Roman god of war - corresponding to Mars, and Sailor Mars.
Aries is a constellation, the ram - corresponding to the Zodiacs.
Aeris is Latin for sky/air - corresponding to the mountain sphere.

Ares and Aries are pronounced the same (AIR-EEZ). I believe Aeris is pronounced AIR-ISS, but I might be wrong.

Can you update Shaz's post in Accepted Quests to link to beyond 2nd page? 3rd has been siphoned into gaia :C

rosemilk: I was wondering why we had so few accepted quests. Will do.

And:
So, Corrupted scouts are no longer to be meta only? Does this mean that in the future nega purification or nega going senshi will also not be meta required?

rosemilk: Nega can't actually go senshi -- a purified Negaverser won't be a senshi. Future purification will still be something that has to be discussed with the staff and can't happen willynilly for no reason, as is a senshi actually being corrupted in-play.

Okay! Dumbass question time.

Azzo just turned ICly age 19 (aka april 30th). This means he's no longer able to become a senshi. Is this correct? Meaning I have to nix his senshi sphere idea right?

*edit* What I'm asking here... mainly is, even if I wanted him upgraded to a senshi I couldn't enter him into any of the upgrade contests that might come up now. Right?

Shazari: I don't really think it would be a problem if you continued to quest him as a senshi, just because he's aged out of the original parameters. He was 18 for a good long while, and that's probably good enough! Just my take on it.

codalion: And thirdly, the Pirate Code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

*edit2* Thanks guys. I just didn't want to put myself and the staff into a position where I entered Azzo and it had to be shot down because he was overage and it wasn't asked first about if such a thing even works. That and I'd rather look like an idiot now than when say a contest comes up, if I were enter Azzo into said currently hypothetical contest. (That and I wasn't sure how often this question actually cropped up.)

Shazari: No problem! You're actually the first, so thanks for asking it.

If a senshi (or civilian!) went willingly to the Negaverse for their own reasons, would the Negaverse corrupt/recruit that person? Or would they just be killed and end up as starseed fodder? whee

Cuter: Depends on the circumstances, really! For example: if Castor were to one day wake up and say HEY. THE NEGAVERSE IS BADASS, I WANT TO JOIN and managed to find Nealite or Charonite and begged to be corrupted... well, his a** would pretty much be grass, considering it's Castor and the trouble he's caused them in the past. Ursula, on the other hand, was signed on willingly after stumbling across something that-should-not-have-been-seen instead of having her star seed plucked out from within her. Different strokes for different folks - it's all up to the situation at hand, who the individual may be and how they can benefit the great and mighty Negaverse!

codalion: We'd also like a plausible reason for why they'd do such a thing, of course -- OKAY EVIL NAO is a bit more of a character 180 in and of itself than we can really be sold on.

Cuter: What she said!

What's your favorite TF2 class and why. ALSO ITNOTM TF2 GAMES AT SOME POINT MAYBE?

Cuter: PYRO PYRO PYRO PYRO. IT'S <******** FIRE. SPAH CHECK PLZ.

Also, I like Sniper for his accent (SUE ME).

You wouldn't be able to handle me, Ithums.

codalion: GENTLEMEN. But Snoipah's a good job, mait. And I am ze ubermensch.

Shazari: Playing-wise, I'm the Demoman or Snoipah type. Character-wise, there is one true fact in this world, and that is the love of Zee Red Spah for Scout's mom.

rosemilk: Both in-play and characterwise -- BONK!

Question: For those of us who have rl slots with Natsu: If we were to change our mind and go hmm, I don't want a senshi or nega (for whatever reason) would we be able to request a civilian/adult civilian? Seeing how no other factions have info or customizable slots available right now and all, although Wiseman seems to have made his first move toward recruitment...

codalion: I don't see why not! But good things come to those who wait (for a small amount of time). smile

Natsube: Actually, I don't do civilians unless they are won through the shop/part of an RL commission for a powered character-- allowing them through my RL slots just opens up a whole can of problems for me-- if at the time I get to your slot and you don't want anything, you can just not get anything, and try in the shop for said characters. Thanks! I've been saying no to this for months, so I can't in good faith say yes to this now.

Wiseman: Careful there dude, I think there are movie trope warnings about henchmen/allies who dress more flashily than you. wink

codalion: You wouldn't be referring to any really really ridiculously good-looking healers in particular, now would you?
