Angela knew when Zen opened a link between them when she felt the familiar smell waft through her mind. The pain eased and this time, thankfully, no memories tried to force their way out of or into her head. Just the smell of flowing water under a sunny sky. It was soothing.
"It is," she replied, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Thank you."
Des watched this exchange curiously. What a strange ability. "Zen," he said. "Where are you from?"

"You're welcome." He relaxed a bit, feeling a bit tired. Oh course it had to be Des that asked one of the questions Zen always hated answering.
"No where you would've heard of." He said softly, and gently. Not to be mean--he was too tired for that--but because it was usually the truth. To keep from sounding too irritable, he added "Maybe I can show you later."

"Oh, I don't know. I plane jump quite a lot," Des said. "I might have even been there before. Ah well.
"Hmm...What about you, Kitty? What's your story?"

Cheeva quirked an eyebrow at Inutai. "You-You want me to describe colour?" she asked around her pipe. "Seriously? Colour is...colour...it's...I..." She was spared anymore attempt to describe the impossible by Des' interruption. Cheeva gave the man a cold look. "My story?" she shuffle her skirt. "What if I don't wish to tell you? Will I be ensorcelled again?" Cheeva blew out a ring of smoke, clearing her throat. "Cheeva Catkin - at least, that's one of my names. You could always call me Shadow Puppet. That's what they called me when I worked for the Blue Faerie, her Ladyship Aponae...my mother. I was her chief assassin, torturer and...whatever else she required." Cheeva looked at Des' lute. "Until I was whisked away by...a...a fool of a man...who showed me this." She fcused on the lute, sending a tiny spray of sparks over it. The lute shivered and twanged, before the strings began strumming themselves in a haunting Kwuita mourning tune. "Animation...that's about all I can do..." She rested a chin on her knees, letting the lute play on.

"Wow, that's interesting." Zen looked at the lute, wanting to poke or touch it, but decided not to. It was a pretty depressing song, but entrancing none the less. "Wish I could do that." He muttered, thinking of all the things he could animate into doing who knows what.

Des frowned as Cheeva relayed her story. She said it tersely and almost as if she didn't care but there was also a pervasive sadness about her and the melancholy tune she coaxed out of his lute seemed to attest to that sadness.
His expression softened. She was harsh and coarse and sometimes callous but perhaps he'd misjudged her. She'd clearly endured a great deal of hardship. That was enough to harden anyone's heart but if she could still pull such beautiful music from his lute, she was clearly not too far gone to recover.
Des glanced over at Angela. "What about you?"
She glared at him but then sighed and ran a hand through her hair, too tired to argue. But exactly how the hell did she explaining the cloning process to a bunch of people who probably didn't even know what DNA was?
She tried her best to explain it in a reasonable way. "There's not much to tell," she said. "Actually, there's a lot to tell. I'll try to condense it.
"I was created using the hair and blood left behind by a Celestial after an ancient battle in my world--add that to a bit of 'Essence of Human' taken from the unfortunate wife of the man responsible and you get me and my sisters." She pointed to the 05 on her arm. "I was number five of six of us." She sighed again and continued.
"My creator was a bloody horrific father and a few years after my mum died, I decided I'd had enough so I left." She shot Zen a quick glance, thinking of the memory he saw. "It took a couple of tries but I finally made it away from that place. I eventually decided I'd leave my world to try to find out more about my real father only he found out about me first and decided I was evil. Since then I've been dodging the people hunting for me from both sides."

Inutai pouted when Cheeva decided not to answer his question. He listened to her speak, and when the lute began to play itself, Inutai stared at it for a few moments in awe before catching himself. Seeing that she was occupied with Des, the boy stood and went to find someone else to talk to within his range. He stopped when he heard Angela start talking to Des as well. He was about to turn away and perhaps go bug Gyp when she said that there were people chasing after her. His ears twitched slightly at this and he hesitantly went up to her.
"You're being chased after, too?" he asked her curiously.

Angela looked at the dog eared boy with surprise. "Ah...yes. I am actually. By quite a lot of people--some who want to capture me because they consider me their property and some who want me dead because they think I'm evil. Charming isn't it? What are you being chased for?"

"Then these grey twelve are foolish, they already had their balance." Zen mumbled, thinking out loud. "And whatever became of your syblings?" He scooched over, closer to her.

Inutai blinked up at her. "I eloped," he told her simply with a slight smile.

"Ah...well," Angela said, fidgeting with her hands. "Three of them are dead. Two are still alive--the--the one you saw is still alive, along with another." Fortunately Inutai responded just then.
She blinked at him and glanced at Toshi behind him. "Ah...." she said, not quite sure how to respond to that. He looked a bit young to be eloping with anyone. "Well, I ran away from the place I grew up and sort of...blew it up on the way out." She chuckled slightly. "I also dodged a draft when I decided to leave my world. And then there's the whole bit where my father thinks I'm evil so it looks like I might be in a right bit more trouble than you."

Inutai frowned slightly up at her when she went on to say why people were chasing her in more detail. So he decided he should elaborate, too. "Well, I was supposed to marry this princess I don't really know and inherit the throne so my father could step down and retire. . . But I eloped instead. Now Father is angry at me and apparently I betrayed my country, or something like that." His ears drooped at this, staring down at his feet. After a moment or two, he suddenly lightened up. "But, at least I have Toshi to keep me company."

Angela smiled a little sadly. "Fathers shouldn't be able to tell you how to live your own life," she said. "It's far better to follow your heart, find your own happiness and ignore whatever your father says. Fathers do not always know what's best. Trust me on this one. I have two."

Inutai watched Angela, regarding her sadly. "But. . ." He stopped and stared down at the ground as if it were interesting. "I don't think. . . "

Zen decided to try to sooth over frightening Inutai eariler.
He looked to the boy and said with a soft tone,"My father was a useless, fat, puppet of a man who salvaged himself and died free. Sometimes the world requires you learn to think for yourself, by yourself.... even if it is hard."
