Ambrose finished his examination, keeping it as brief as humanly possible, knowing the anxiety that came with the scrutiny of others.

He barked a quick laugh. "Well, it appears, then, that Vasile speaks more to others about himself than any other." He teased. "But I suppose that on this island, it is difficult to quite describe one another in a favorable fashion than to meet in person."

Ambrose slid back onto the bar stool besides Marlow after releasing his hand, ears pricking as he peered behind the counter. "You're bartender tonight? Wonderful! How about...." He pondered the choices availble to him, realizing how much a choice of drinks could speak to ones' character, particularly in present company. He searched his mind, recalling titles from the list that was attached to the top of the minifridge before clearing his throat. "How about a salty dog?" He gave Vasile a lolling grin.

Nodding to Marlow, he continued his introduction. "YEs... I have the dubious honor of being the first of now many subjects."

"Scotch on the rocks" Marlow answered without hesitation. A family favorite, especially in dubious times... or in times of celebration. Come to think of it anytime was a good time for scotch in the Marlow household. He swallowed the pang of homesickness with the knowledge that it would soon be chased with something to warm him up. "That must be quite a distinction, first subject. I've recently learned that there are a good 40 ahead of me... and already some coming up behind. They move fast here." He couldn't help the flit of his eyes in Vasile's direction, but he smoothed it with a playful smirk.

Vasile busied himself with fixing the drinks, making Ambrose's more complicated one first and sliding it over to him. Vasile poured the Scotch over the ice and walked around the bar to hand it to him personally, letting his fingers linger on the glass for just a beat longer than what would be considered normal.

He look a seat near Marlow and continued to nurse on his martini. "As for you, Ambrose, I'm just polite. I try not to gossip...too much. I just know Marlow is pretty new and figured I would introduce him to some of my friends here. Some of these charactes can be a bit... erm, antagonistic. Ambrose is a good guy." Vasile gave the dog man a warm smile, his tail thumping once behind him.

Ambrose lifted his glass to Vasile with a nod at the shining commendation. "Thank you, Vasile. It's good to have friends here." He nodded to Marlow as well before taking an awkward sip from the glass - lapping at it a bit more than generall acceptable, but he had gotten more proficient with his muzzle since his last trip to the beach bar, especially considering that he had yet to have any alcohol in his system. His lips, at least, were still rather flexible - he had no difficulty speaking thanks to some favors - be it divine luck or due to the labs.

"And yes... it has been a very.... interesting... "vacation"." His mouth twitched wryly. "At least the newcomers have the luxury of knowing what awaits them. At least up until as far as myself and a few others have gotten." He breathed a frustrated sigh. "One change left - and no one knows what it will bring."

He puased for a moment before taking another long pull and shook his head. "But I shall leave the sobering conversation behind me for the evening. What brings you to this madman's island, Marlow?"

Marlow thanked Vasile, leaving his hand suspended in the air for a spell even after he had pulled away. "What brings me here?" He snorted slightly and leaned back in his chair. It must have been the most common icebreaker topic on the island, so he played along, speaking of it as if it was as casual as discussing the weather. "I was tricked, like I suppose most people were." He traced a finger through the air in a lazy curving line that abruptly shot out at an angle as he said "little accident on a bike," then he patted his chair. "Broke both my legs. Was laid up for a couple months before the good doctor offered to help" He raised his glass up towards the labs on the distant hilltop in toast.

After a slight pause his glass drifted to the side until it hovered in front of Vasile. "But Vasile set me straight on my first night in the village... and he's been an essential help to me ever since. I'm rather indebted."

Vasile gave a predatory smirk to himself, mostly hidden behind the martini glass. 'Setting straight' isn't exactly the term I would use, Vasile mused to himself.

"A pleasure to help," Vasile said to him, smiling warmly. He looked back to Ambrose. "Marlow here was the first islander I've ever had to break the news to. Something I've heard you've become quite a master of."

Ambrose winced at the descritpion, however brief, of Marlow's bike accident. That certainly explained the wheelchair - but at least it was a physical accident and not some debilitating disease like the boy he had met earlier was faced with. It seemed somehow more ... treatable.

"I'm sorry to hear that.." Ambrose commiserated. "Although I'm sure that that sounds somewhat shallow compared to the pain I'm sure you've been through. But... if it's any consolation, maybe whatever they do to you will actually have the fringe benefit of fixing your legs... I've started to notice a trend with some of the newer subjects having... medical problems. Maybe they're actually testing the medical side effects of all of...." he gestured to himself. "This."

"Or maybe I'm just tring to find a silver lining where there isn't one. " He shruged and took another drink.

"But~! It sounds like at the very least you've run into .... good people since arriving. " He smirked, casting a sidelong glance at Vasile. "Breaking the news to someone is never an easy job. It only seems to get worse the more you change. As the difficult conversation is only punctuated by the screams of horror when they first encounter you." His ears flattened.

As always he let the reassurances wash over him, however this time he felt that if Vasile had not been present he would have been very tempted to outline the 'fringe benefits' of his treatment to Ambrose in stark, slimy detail. "I still harbor some hope, but for now simply being outside and being around 'normal' people, instead of countless hospital drones, is its own reward."

He finished his glass and held it out to Vasile with a bit of plead in his lip. Like any good beggar he was ready with a compliment of sorts. "And I think Vasile has a slight advantage over you in the task of bearing bad tidings. 'Horrifying' isn't exactly the first description that comes to mind... nor is screaming the first instinct."

"At least you're probably be able to walk again. If you're really clammoring for a silver lining. I heard that Maddy girl can hear now. She used to be deaf."

As the beckoning, Vasile quickly retreaved the glass from Marlow and went to refil. Vasile's ears did flush slightly before they dropped into a demure expression. "You flatter me," he purred over his shoulder as he made his way behind the bar, his tail coming up and waving towards him a flirtatious manner. It was nearly comical...something you might expect a cartoon vixen to say. Masculine was definately not Vasile's word of the day.

Ambrose propped his chin up on his hand with a bemused smile as he watched Vasile blatantly flirting, his tail wriggling.

"Well, I wish for the best for you as well. I know another's regrown a missing arm as well.... but then again, most would agree that the price isn't worth the benefit. Fur, feathers and scales aside, despite the good company, being spirited away from the 'real world' isn't exactly most peoples' cut of tea."

He sighed, mildly preturbed at the obvious contrast between him and Vasile. Then again, judging by Vasile's actions, Marlow was just a tiny bit biased. After all, lookign intimidating wasn't necessarily a BAD thing....

He tapped the side of his drink glass, passing glances between the two. "But, I'm glad that it appears that you encountered a very ... ah... welcoming party." He smirked with a wink.

Marlow only nodded at the continued reassurances, sipping from his fresh glass. His true opinion on the whole deal would do far more harm than good and there would be plenty of time for such conversations in the future. He took a heartier gulp of liquor when he caught the looks exchanged between Ambrose and Vasile. This was definitely one of those meetings...

After Marlow was taken care of, Vasile made another drink for Ambrose, then went towards making a refil of his own.

"You know Marow's family and Moreau's family apparantly have some kind of history," he said, just trying to make conversation. Vasile looked between the man in the chair and Ambrose, oblivious to how... obvious he was being. "Like myself they probably had to pull some elaborate scheme. Marlow's a person that would be missed." He couldn't help but smile towards him as he said so.

He came back around with his fresh refreshment and took a seat. "Though speaking of being missed, Ambrose's girlfriend actually managed to find him..kind of." He gave a nod to Ambrose. "Its kind of sweet... save the part about her ending up, well, here. But you know..she seems to taking it rather well, yes, Ambrose?"

Ambrose nodded a thanks to Vasile, picking up his refill and sampling it approvingly. His ear flicked back in acknowledgement of Vasile's acessment.

"I wish that more than a few individuals would notice us goign missing. And not wind up here themselves. Angelina - as glad as I am to be reunited with her... I still feel guilty about her winding up sharing my fate. And your disappearance alerted at least one member of the press - Joli..."

He couldn't help but smile a bit when Angelina was mentioned, his plans springing back to mind. "I think it helps that I'm here.. yes. This sort of thing is nothing anyone should have to deal with alone." He glanced at Vasile again - understanding his motives. Even after discovering his ... changed preferences, being without someone was tough - after parting ways with Cassidy he apparently had set out to find a replacement. Ambrose wasn't one to judge guys, but this Marlow fellow did seem more Vasile's.. speed - well groomed, attractive, and by the sounds of it, a Somebody.

"Your family had ties to the Moreaus?" Ambrose asked, honestly curious. "As in good ties or bad ones - if you're here I can't imagine that they'd be that good.... then again Moreau's got his own cousin growing fur as Vasile's pointed out. Who were you.. back there? My family had money too, but nothing like Vasile, I'm sure.... and I wasn't exactly on good terms with my parents when I was... 'disappeared.'"

Marlow swallowed his drink slowly, his lips thinning to a line for a spell as he considered his reply. "Metasang, a company my father controls, and Feral Labs have made a lot of money for each other over the years. It's a symbiotic relationship between two very different creatures. I doubt either would be thriving as they are without the support of the other. As for me," he curled his lip in a self-deprecating smirk, "I might have been one of the next generation's most brilliant business minds to ever command a boardroom, but that we may never know. Perhaps that's the blessing, because I would have been bored as hell if that was my fate."

Vasile nodded along, watching Ambrose and Marlow converse. "Well Marlow, I can definately see you being commanding. I'm sure you could have offered to go sky diving with your board members instead of playing golf," he teasted lightly. He flipped his hair over his shoulder and watched Ambrose for a moment.
