For those studying Swedish or just curious on the language so can I tell that you can watch this year’s advent calendar, ”LasseMajas detektivbyrå” (LasseMaja’s Detective Office), online at SVT’s website.
Just click “se avsnitt” (=watch episodes) and then choose the episode you want to watch. (del = part) and then click on either the .asx-link for viewing it in Windows Media Player or the .ram-link to view it in Real Player.

Pistil Bad Swedish GD! So what if I haven't had time to study Swedish AT ALL for months, this shouldn't be at the bottom of the page. mad On a good note, I'm not forgetting anything I've already learned... mostly. I was watching a movie with my boyfriend and his friend and there were subtitles on. Within two sentences, I said, "Hey, that's Swedish! 4laugh " and they were all "Don't care, subtitles suck" and went to get rid of them crying but when they did, it said "Subtitle: Swedish" on the screen and they both looked at me in disbelief that I was right. rofl Haha, that was hilarious! XD Or in Swedish: Haha, det där var jättekul! XD

Does swedish really vary per region or no? I have all these really old letters from my great great grandmother in Swedish and I want to eventually translate them but I dont know if I have to take regional influences heavily into account or not.

Not very much, there might be a couple of words that are different and that not everybody understands, but most of it is the same.

I'd like to learn either Swedish or Finnish. I've heard that the two are closely related. However, the only phrase I know in Swedish is "Jag talar flytande svenska" which means "I speak fluent Swedish" which of course I don't. My friend taught me that phrase, she's very good at the language 3nodding

Finnish is not even Indo-European. It is related to Hungarian.
