No, I won't be doing that
All three seasons are on DVD and you work at a movie rental place, right?

Dooooo eeeeeet.

I do, but we don't have all three seasons. Animu rents poorly at my location.

I've been staring at the GI Joe trailers in absolute hatred because I made the mistake of looking up who's playing the Baroness. Sienna Miller. I'll report back once I've decided whether I'd rather shag her or be her, it's a tough call. Maybe I'll write a letter to Eddie Izzard for advice.

Sherlock Holmes. ******** Sherlock Holmes. People kept telling me things about the movie and I kept forgetting them. Then I went to the Apple movie trailers site and my brain broke. Guy Ritchie. Robert Downey Junior. Mark Strong. ALL ELSE PALES IN COMPARISON. Of course I'm saying this in the year that already gave us Star Trek, and promises Gamer*, 9, Public Enemies, Up, and Inglorious Basterds.

*Gamer will be crass Hollywood shite and another retread of The Running Man (I've already had to correct people comparing it to The Condemned...), but pitting Gerard Butler and Michael C Hall against each other is sheer ******** brilliance.

Really, Condemned? They can't reach further back that a few years ago? Heh, yeah I also saw the Gamer as a Running Man rehash, but as you saw those two together will be dynamite.

I'm very intrigued by District 9, an odd movie kinda mixed with the principals of apartheid. I'm being vague with it because I do so love the little shocker at the end of the trailer. Check it out if you're interested.

District 9

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention! This is the team that was going to bring us Halo the movie

Harry Potter?

Good books; absolutely terrible movies. They're fine if you look at them as visual representations of some of the book's moment, (ie. How I view all of 'Watchmen') but as actual movies they're incoherent, disjointed and riddled with plot holes. I honestly don't think I'd have understood most of the 5th movie if I hadn't read the book beforehand.

Sherlock Holmes is definitely near the top of my most anticipated movies. Robert Downey Jr. is an immensely talented actor and Guy Ritchie seems to have come out of his slump, (I absolutely adored RockNRolla, despite it mostly being a rehash of his earlier stuff) and I love his style. Trailer has only reinforced my anticipation. As a sidenote, on the poster Downey Jr. bears an uncanny resemblance to Hugh Laurie in House, which is interesting if only because House is basically a modernized adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.

Yeah, I can see that a bit - but I do know plenty of people who liked the films before they decided to pick up the books. They are not completely incoherent. Its entirely possible that they seem more disjointed then they really are if you have solid knowledge of the books because you are constantly comparing what is going on to your memory of how each scene played out.

Overall I view the films as footnotes to the books. And I like them, they're fun and shiny and have progressed in their quality. I also just really love Harry Potter Snape.

Okay, here's the info you need, Chris. Joker will only be playable in the PS3 version of the game. He doesn't get a full story mode, just an extra levels adventure. Similar to Project Adda in RE4.
The game will NOT be multi-player and as of right now there are no other playables on the other systems. My choice? Two-Face for 360, Riddler for PC

Also, Brutal Legend is looking to be another awesome awesome winner by Double Fine, the people that brought us Psychonauts.

Thank god! I really thought Shepard was dead from the teaser. Seriously! You and a small team hold back an invasion of the UNIVERSE shattering scale and you die?! Please!

Playable Joker is DLC, though, which means it's possible that it'll eventually be offered on 360. 'Course, that's probably just wishful thinking on my part. sad

MASS EFFECT 2! blaugh

Managed to catch Drag Me To Hell today. Definitely lived up to expectations. Perfect mix of horror and comedy, with just the right amount of B-movie thrown in there; virtuoso direction from Sam Raimi; a well written, cohesive story and, most importantly, very entertaining.

Ditto, cuz I sure as hell better be able to play one of the villains from maybe the best rogues gallery in comic book history.

District 9 looks great. I remember when me and my friends went to see Star Trek, the trailer for this started and we were a bit put off, thinking its some "sick-children-in-Africa" campaign or what ever.

TOTALLY blown away by the twist.

From what I've heard, this is what Jackson decided to do and salvage what he had started for the Halo movie. Kinda remush things into a different direction so he could use what had been produced already.

Toy Story 3 teaser! I'm not one of those massive Pixar fans who eagerly anticipate every movie they make, (I like most of them fine, I just don't see what all the fuss is about half the time.) but this is Toy Story. I remember seeing the first one as an impressionable young boy... It wasn't so much a movie as a religious experience. My favorite kid's movie of all time to this day. No doubt I'll be looking forward to this one. Not until 2010, though.

And as long as we're on the subject of kid's movies, Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are is apparently coming out this October, 9 years after the original teaser trailer. I was skeptical at first, I'll admit, but I really dug the new trailer. The Arcade Fire worked well. On top of that, Jonze has done some pretty incredible music videos (Da Funk and Weapon of Choice would both chart in my top 5 of all time) and I absolutely adored Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Despite being another movie based on a book with not nearly enough substance to sustain a feature film, this movie's got a lot going for it, and I really hope they don't blow it.

Just got done with The Girlfriend Experience, and it's fairly awesome. I've been really excited for this year's movies because it's shaping up to be the return to top form for the directors that inspired my movie geekery back in my formative teen years; Steve Soderbergh (Traffic then, TGE and Che now), Spike Jonze (as elucidated by Nick), Guy Ritchie (Snatch then, Sherlock Holmes now), and Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill then, Inglourious Basterds now).

I live and breathe Hollywood and major foreign exports, that's what my business is these days, so getting a chance to dig into a film that is nothing more or less than the pure, raw experience of life is incredibly refreshing. It's not what I'd call a feel good movie, but it's intricately put together for something that looks so seat of the pants. The editing is just plain orgasmic, even moreso for the sound (editing and engineering) than the video. It's a technical masterpiece even if you completely ignore the writing and acting, which you shouldn't.

A lot of s**t has been talked about Sasha Grey's performance in the film, mostly because she's a porn star trying to cross over to the mainstream (not that anyone ever groused about Zack Grenier in Fight Club or Swordfish). Most reviews are panning her performance and assuming that she's just being herself or that she's too cold and unemotional, which is absurd. Anyone interested in checking out The Girlfriend Experience should probably watch the (fascinating albeit explicit) documentary 9 to 5: Days in Porn first to get an idea of who Sasha Grey is and how she both resembles and completely differs from her character. I know I wouldn't have been able to appreciate her performance anywhere near as much otherwise.
