The other three castings are still white, Jackson Rathbone cast as Sokka and Nicola Peltz as Katara. Both whitity white white. But don't worry, they'll probably pull a The Good Earth and use make up to just make the white people look Asian and Inuit. Afterall, they just need to tan and get some tape, it's not like there's anything in the show that references a specific culture. Recasting Dev Patel doesn't eliminate the fact that the casting call for the four leads was "Caucasian, or any other ethnicity," while the casting for all the extras was, "ethnic, and look as ethnic as possible, wear ethnic costumes to the casting call, ethnic ethnic ethnic." Or that, ironically, Asians ethnicities were traditionally only cast in villainous roles (although this one I know is a pure coincidence). This was extremely poorly handled right from the get-go. Announcing the casting only affirms people's fears, making them "look ethnic" will only seem incredibly insulting. Derek Kirk Kim has a pretty good post up on the subject, and there's one about the casting calls. There's not a dearth of ethnic actors out there. This was a Bad Move.

[Gothic_Lolita] You're also gonna have to watch the series the movies will be based on, too. Oh, and so you know, Avatar will be a trilogy. Assuming the movies don't tank of course; one movie for each season. They're going to have to move fast, kids don't stay small long and Aang didn't get that much bigger as the series progressed. Quick! Film them simultaneously!

I actually am a little surprised they're not doing a full length animated feature because I think it would go over really amazingly well. Except it would force them to come up with an utterly new story of some kind, which prevents them from doing a big Origin Pic. Otherwise it would look like a big cartoon mash up.
Maybe they'll film all the scenes with the kid first, and then shoot the other movies around that.

I've been staring at the GI Joe trailers in absolute hatred because I made the mistake of looking up who's playing the Baroness. Sienna Miller. I'll report back once I've decided whether I'd rather shag her or be her, it's a tough call. Maybe I'll write a letter to Eddie Izzard for advice.
Sherlock Holmes. ******** Sherlock Holmes. People kept telling me things about the movie and I kept forgetting them. Then I went to the Apple movie trailers site and my brain broke. Guy Ritchie. Robert Downey Junior. Mark Strong. ALL ELSE PALES IN COMPARISON. Of course I'm saying this in the year that already gave us Star Trek, and promises Gamer*, 9, Public Enemies, Up, and Inglorious Basterds.
*Gamer will be crass Hollywood shite and another retread of The Running Man (I've already had to correct people comparing it to The Condemned...), but pitting Gerard Butler and Michael C Hall against each other is sheer ******** brilliance.

I'm still on my oldie scifi binge, Most recently I watched the First Predator film. I did enjoy this one, but I hear I shouldn't bother with the second one. Still: GET TO THE CHOPPA!! I've always wonder which Govanator film that came from. But I did break away from that binge to my other binge of Japanese action films, so I check out Shinobi: Hearts Under the Blade If you saw the anime Basilisk, it's the same plot, since both the anime/manga and this movie where based off the same book, The Kouga Ninja Scrolls. Pretty entertaining stuff.
